The ambience is really nice, live music and we sat in the top area which was relaxing for us. The must try items are the tuna tartar it was amazing and the skirt steak with the bone marrow! All three rooms were clean and fully functional for a five night stay. The hotel, bar, restaurant, pools and gardens were very well maintained. The hotel was situated on the beach front and walking distance to a good range of restautants and surf shops in the town itself. I would happily recommend this hotel to families with teenagers. We went late afternoon, it was high tide. With high tide we only saw a couple crocs heads and a very small baby one. However we were really there to see monkeys and we got to go on land in the jungle and see a whole family. So overall mission accomplished & was the only part we liked about our day trip to Tamarindo (tourist trap). 4 out of 5 because English wasn’t great. Bonus: leaving the parking lot we watched another family of monkeys cross the street and walk down the road on power lines. It was awesome - babies on mom’s back too. Then a male server came and I asked him why she has charged us and he said that the female staff had used a vodka bottle from the back of the bar instead of the one they were supposed to use for the nights inventory & give the "free drinks". So beware and read signs cause the staff will charge you for free stuff and/or overcharge you (my friend also gave them too much money) and wasn't given her change back. I would give this a 0 rating but I can't as the staff was dishonest and took advantage of non Spanish speaking clients. We have experienced lots of other venues with nicer people that we will be visiting again :)

The highlight for sure was cruising with a large pod of spotted dolphin, as they surfed the bow wave and babies jumped out of the water. It was a magical experience. We sat near by a couple whose birthday it was and the waitress or manager or something literally left work to get them a cake and candles and sang happy birthday to them, I don’t even think they asked her to, I think she just did it on her own after finding out it was her birthday. They shared the cake with all the guests and employees it was such an amazing experience. The waiter, Giovanni was so kind and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend this beach bar. You get what you pay for. My only complaint is the vendors that try to sell you stuff, there’s so many of them and they’re constantly walking around, but I didn’t reflect this in my rating because I know the restaurant can’t do much about this and it’s probably like that at every beach front restaurant.

It was awesome it was right on the beach, and that the suite came with a little kitchen area with a sink, pretty big refrigerator, microwave, cooktop, coffee maker, blender, dishware, utensils etc. It was really comfortable to be able to just eat in the hotel room sometimes and avoid spending at restaurants every time. They even greet you with a fresh coconut upon check-in, which was really sweet. The staff were all super friendly and always willing to help, the rooms were very clean, and the pool was well maintained. And you can’t beat the location for Tamarindo. The beach is steps away and from the looks of it, some of the better surfing spots are right in front of the hotel. It is also highly walkable to downtown Tamarindo. The only downsides were that they dont let you have guests over even just to watch a movie or have some coffee in your suite. It seems a lot of hotels around here are like that, but it would have been nice to have a friend over. The only other negative we encountered was when renting surfboards. They were reasonably priced, but pretty old and worn, so we realize within five minutes of renting them that we didn’t want to use them anymore, and couldn’t get a refund, which was a bit silly. It seems the boards are rented at the hotel through a third-party though. Therefore, I would recommend you get your boards elsewhere. All in all though we loved this place. Highly recommend!

We stayed in the 8 bed dorm room for 3 nights. Highlights: The people are very kind and helpful. The beds are comfortable and clean, AC on overnight, little pool to cool off (was out of order one day) and some places to lounge in sun or shade. We didn't use the kitchen but it was very big and has everything you need to cook for yourself! Location is good, easy walk to beach and to town. Was quiet to sleep, everyone respectful of quiet hours. Cute little kitty and doggy on site. Not so great: the bathrooms :/ the dorm bathroom door swells so doesnt shut properly and is very loud unless you lift it while closing (staff did not tell us this). there was a sewer smell that came and went in the bathroom and room, had to keep the bathroom door closed. Bathrooms looked like they had never been cleaned, bath mats hard as rock and the toilet was not clean. I saw the cleaner come one day, she swept and cleaned the floors and seemingly only lit incense in the bathroom. There were some other bathrooms available but the one door didn't shut at all. Overall not bad stay but excited that they are redoing the bathrooms soon and hope for a higher standard of cleanliness.

I found myself not needing the A/C most nights. The coolest part of PGSC was the hostel environment. I spent a majority of my time in the camp hanging out by the pool or the kitchen and sharing stories with people from all over the world, and I made some amazing friends while staying here. You can also take a short walk & water taxi to Tamarindo for shopping & more restaurant options! We rented a moped for rides into the main part of playa grande, which made the trip even more fun. This was my first time staying in a hostel but certainly won’t be my last — it’s affordable and such a cool way to meet new friends!! Whether you’re an experienced surfer, beginner, or just wanting some quality time away in beach town, I highly recommend playa grande surf camp!

There was a pretty gnarly swell at the beach but he worked it out to get us on the boat. We started catching fish within the first 30 minutes! We caught 8 skipjack tuna that we didn't keep but at the end of the trip my youngest son caught a Spanish mackerel and my oldest son caught a yellowfin tuna. They were ecstatic! Captain Daniel was great throughout the whole trip and his mate was very attentive to our needs every time we had a fish on. At one point we had 3 fish being reeled in at one time! As a father, this was an amazing experience for myself and my boys to reel 3 fish in all at the same time! We decided just to split some appetizers. We got the rosemary foccacia, a plate of fries, and a platter of empanadas. We had just finished some surf lessons (with a different company) and we were happy to get two tables for our group of 10. Getting to sit outside after just getting back from the beach was also a nice touch after a long day, and they have plenty of cocktail and beer selections to choose from while you're at it.
