We felt welcome & stayed after breakfast to have an extra coffee. Today I was back in town with my daughter as it was so good the first-time. The food was great, tasty and we didnt have to wait long for our coffee or food to arrive. But we did feel like the staff wanted us to move on quicker than our last visit. Our table was cleared very soon after finishing. Our plates, cutlery and salt & pepper removed before we had finished our drinks. I just felt rushed on a day when we didnt have to. Comes & Goes has always been “that place with pretty food and drinks” and the brightly lit environment continued through into the night. We shared a variety of the entrees, mains and dessert, and started off with the house-made ice tea & pina colada (Mocktail) which were both really good (and pretty!) The fish of the day was Tarakihi, and we enjoyed the ceviche which had very beautiful tangy sauce to complete the flavour. It is a bit different compared to other places but we enjoyed this twist. The chicken pieces were juicy inside and crunchy on the outside, and all the sauces were really good! Couldn’t really pick a favourite, I was going to go with the yum yum sauce (Korean fried chicken sauce) but then the Delta sauce (a bit like thousand island) was quite nice and tangy, and the mustard was quite creamy as well! For something a bit different, you could also try the plum powder (I grew up eating this with Taiwanese fried chicken). The salad was very pretty, the feta added the needed contrast to the beetroot and worked well together. The pork ribs had a tangy BBQ sauce and were very big! For the mains, the steak was cooked medium-rare as requested, and we also were given all 3 sauces - the peppercorn one is very strong in pepper if it’s your type, and the mushroom sauce had a cumin flavour in it, but the red wine jus was just super gooey and was our favourite (high recommended!) - probably didn’t need the butter de paris with all these sauces but also an option, it has very strong herbs folded in (not brave enough to name the herbs out of thin air) We were impressed with the market fish though! It was pan-fried and fresh, but still soft inside with a slightly crispy layer outside, and that potato puree was so good! We liked everything on this plate, the veges worked well together and this dish was happily devoured. We also shared the panna cotta and the matcha creme brulee (matcha is everywhere these days I swear!) the panna cotta had quite a strong earl grey flavour and the poached pear slices were not soaked in sugar syrup which was refreshing, and the matcha creme brulee was just right, creamy and velvety but the matcha flavour comes through and worked very well - might be a bit too much raspberry sauce on the side but it’s up to you how much you want to add to it! Petone is brimming with dining options but usually during day time, so now a dinner addition is always a welcome one!

Drove past it initially as there's no sign on the outside of the building, just the entrance menu adds, but the name is inside the covered door? The atmosphere was very loud however, this was due to all tables being filled. Lots of people seemed to have reserved tables. Was really nice inside with the sun shining in. Food is quite expensive, e.g $7 for a regular chocolate chip muffin (like the size of the ones you can buy in set of six for $6 at the supermarket). The cheese scone was also very lacking in flavour, couldn’t really taste the cheese. They do use supreme coffee though, which was lovely. They have been doing high brunch for a few years now, but we have never been, it was the perfect time to go because they have just reopened for high brunch a few weeks ago after a revamp. We splurged a bit and went for the Aperol spritz 🥂 I completely missed this in the video but they have a set of tongs at every table for you to use, that was pretty cool, and kind of makes one feel classy 😜 The bottom tier were a variety of cheeses, chutney, quince, and cured meat. The middle tier was screaming at me because everything looks so good, I was super impressed with the avocado toast! The avocado was velvety and creamy, and completely melts in your mouth, the flavour was so beautiful and the omelette on the side was very well seasoned as well. The halloumi on the skewer was not rubbery, and rest of the skewer was cooked just right. The corn fritter was cooked the way it should be done, with a little chili kick. Being a pastry buff, I had to go straight for the pastry in between my savoury bites! The croissant was a slightly unusual shape being more long and slender, but it was very flaky and fluffy on the inside so looks did not really matter in this case 😆 I absolutely loved the custard Danish, pity there was only one to share between the 2 and the pain au chocolat was nice and flaky as well. The waffles were a good addition and were nice and crunchy, with 4 slices of toasted sourdough, which worked well with the smoked salmon from the bottom tier. I was very happy with the chia pudding with mango, coconut yoghurt and pomegranate sprinkled on top, it was very creamy and the crunch of the pomegranate was a good contrast. Overall very impressed with their high brunch! Would be keen to come back once they change the menu (cos I always like trying new things)! Also I am secretly more of a savoury fan so was very happy this high brunch was not piled high with cakes! Available everyday and Sunday until 3pm, vegan, vegetarian or GF can be arranged.

While the weather was a bit stormy and the sea was choppy, this was a perfect spot to enjoy a hot drink and breakfast. As per usual, drink orders were taken first. Coffees and Teas all around! Watching the surfers waiting for their next breaker, we all ordered our food. 3 of us ordered Eggs Benedict, and one ordered the Waffles. The bacon was nice and crispy, and I loved the ciabata toast, well toasted. The waffles were a treat, covered in syrup and a delicious cinnamon cream. The waffles had a nice crispy coating, and all went down a treat. To top it all off, the prices were incredible, at around $20 per person. So a delicious breakfast, lovely drinks, and the pleasure of watching the planes come and go all while the ocean churns away in the background. It doesn't get much better than that!

Light but chewy, it has all the taste and texture and density I expect in a bagel. I’m used to walking into NYC delis and seeing baskets full of assorted bagel types, but Ugly Bagels has prepackaged packs of four arranged by type (plain, sesame, etc.). While I would have liked to have seen baskets organized by flavor (salt, cinnamon/raisin, blueberry, poppy seed, etc.) I won’t hold it against the shop. I brought a toddler with me. They brought over a highchair which was so helpful, although tricky with the lack of space to get it in a position that it wasn't in the way. The playhouse area was brilliant with a great amount of quality toys and only had one entrance. I could sit up comfortably inside with room for two toddlers and a 10 year old to play around me easily. This was great for safety, but also made it a little tricky when there was more than one adult with a child as you can't see in very well and there is a table right at the entrance so you are constantly trying not to bother them. The staff were so kind, not worrying when a stray toy made it's way out. They just spoke beautifully to my baby and gave it back again. They were fast to serve our order, the food was presented well, tasted so good and had great portions. I love being able to order via QR code at the table, meaning you never have to wait to be served. Peaceful coffee dates highly recommended. Place has quite a space for small number of groups. Cafe is bit of busy on morning hours and yet their service is faster too. My partner and I left the scroll as we were quite full and it wasn’t what we were expecting anyway. When staff came to collect the plate full of scroll scraps she asked me if everything was ok with it and offered to bring us something different to make up for it. I declined and she came over to give us free coffee vouchers shortly after. The manager came over and apologised too and thanked us for the feedback. Im super thankful to the team for being so kind and acknowledging our experience in so many different ways. Its quite easy to let things slide when you’re a bit shy, especially if you don’t want to come off as rude, so that persistence and self-awareness from the cafe is really impressive and defs noticed. The Oatery satisfied my oaty cravings with their delicious seasonal porridge. The generous portion was full of flavour and not overly sweet which was appreciated. For my first attempt they were unable to open on time for some reason. Mixed thoughts now that I’ve been able to try them. Positives: They have so many tasty options (cold, hot, sweet, savoury, indulgent, light). Ample seating with provided blankets for the cold/wind which is such a plus. Food was well presented, generous with costly ingredients and yum! Negatives: The cutlery set they provided my table had no knives so when a staff member was close by, I requested a knife. They put it directly onto the outdoor table with no napkin underneath. Later found some sort of hair on a piece of salmon on my toast :( Will definitely come back in the future, but hope to not find mysterious hair or have cutlery put onto potentially dirty surfaces. The first time I came, I had the seasonal porridge, which was spectacular and really substantial - others I came with had the chia seed pudding, which looked amazing, the green smoothie, and the mushrooms on toast. Whoever I take seems to be impressed with the service and quality of food, and each is very picture-worthy. I went back recently to try the cacao porridge, which was also very tasty, and authentic. I would recommend this one to a chocolate lover and perhaps closer to midday, as the cacao nibs and peanut butter is more something I would have later in the day due to richness, but was tasty nevertheless. For me, the seasonal porridge was my favourite (had in the summer), but I overhead some others raving about the sweet and salty flavour with salted butter.

The menu did sound interesting, that's why I signed up for the tour that included lunch here, but it was a huge disappointment. The corn fritters, my starter, was pretty okay. Daughter who is gluten free and been feeling misreable about the new diet loved the Lola burger and was very happy after the dinner, so much we went back the 2nd night.
