During my search for places to visit in Hobart CBD, I came across St George’s Anglican Church in Battery Point. As someone who enjoys exploring historical architecture, I was keen to see it. The walk there was lovely, surrounded by charming heritage houses that perfectly complemented the church’s setting.
Built in the late 1830s, St George’s is one of Tasmania’s oldest Anglican churches. Its elegant sandstone design and tall tower make it a distinctive landmark that reflects Hobart’s colonial character.
I was lucky that the church was open when I arrived. Inside, a small ceremony was taking place, including prayers and christening. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming. The priest and staff were exceptionally kind, and as soon as they realised we were visitors, they offered us tea and biscuits and took time to talk with us about the church and its community.
Overall, visiting St George’s Anglican Church was a wonderful experience. The blend of history, beauty, and genuine hospitality made it one of the most memorable parts of my trip.

Steeped in history and glowing in architecture.
This church is amazing with it's own museum. Although undergoing restoration it's still worth a visit to see the inside of the church and it's decor. Thousands of convicts and free settlers were married in the church and it was built in three stages. Its historical significance is understated and a local historical society can include it as part of a tour.

Outstanding experience and well worth spending extra to enjoy the Posh Pit. Excellent service, lovely nibbles and drinks. The thing I enjoyed and appreciated most about the MONA ferry was that the experience began even before we boarded. The staff member in the terminal who called passengers to present for boarding was hilarious in her commentary, with quite the acerbic wit. She had everyone in fits of giggles. Staff in the Posh Pit were courteous and very efficient, especially given how many passengers they had to attend to whilst still having to manage casting-off and arrival tasks. The nibbles were small and tasty and more than enough given how short the trip is. All in all a first-class experience and highly recommended.

We travelled in the Posh Pit expecting a premium experience, but it fell short. While the staff were lovely, the drinks were good, and the seating was comfortable, the overall experience was disappointing.
The biggest issue was the windows – they were so dirty we could barely see the water. Given the extra cost for the Posh Pit, this lack of basic upkeep was frustrating. The view is meant to be part of the experience, and it was completely ruined by the filthy glass.

This is a beautiful cathedral. There are two entrances, one is via the bell tower and a corridor or through the front entrance. Interesting layout with the tower not part of the main church. The architecture is lovely. There is a mixture of original and contemporary stained glass. The carved wooden screen is lovely. A peaceful and contemplative space to spend some time. Also there is a fabulous shop inside which specialises in hand knitted items and especially beanies.

Enjoyed coming to the Cathedral many times for Mass on Sundays, especially in the wake of COVID. We thought it was awesome that they worked hard to offer Mass and accomodate Mass-goers within the restrictions, and enjoyed attending the 11am Solemn Mass as we found it to be reverent and inspiring. Also very blessed to have had Archbishop Porteous officiate our Rite of Betrothal after our engagement in the Cathedral - It will always be a place which we’ll hold dear to us.

It gets hated on a lot and really doesn't deserve it - although some girls can be problematic the teachers work hard and most of them care a lot about the students and how they learn. Students with learning difficulties can get customised learning plans to assist them.
Truthfully their concerns about the uniform only come up if you blatently avoid wearing the uniform - if you're a productive member of the school and dont wear non-school items of clothing or excessive jewelery/makeup nothing happens.
There can be some difficulties dealing with issues with staff, and the leadership system however these issues themselves are rare.
All in all I really reccomend SMC - its a great place to make friends and it's easy to find the people that'll make your life a lot better (and form life-long friendships)

Feel very welcomed here, a church with strong sense of community. No judgement, just pure acceptance and joy. They have 3 services, one on Wednesday, two on Sunday. 8.30 Sunday service is in smaller room and more intimate. 9.30 Sunday service is bigger and has full band. I switch once in a while, both are equally great!
This church definitely helped me a lot with my journey and make me less and less a worrier! So grateful I find my home here.
P.S. The toilet door messages are always something else 👌🏻✨
