A friend and I went to Improv for a show last Tuesday night. Neither of us had been before so we had 0 idea what to expect out of the venue or the food. I ended up eating before because the reviews were pretty mixed but my friend ordered the chicken Caesar salad and a side of onion rings and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t *great* but she said it was pretty good for mid food. The staff at the venue were super friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed the show. Would totally come back here to see another show.

I visited from Atlanta to see Sheryl Underwood, Mike Washington, and others perform. A time was had! We could not record during their stand-up, but I was laughing until I was crying and my stomach was hurting! Lol. I kept it simple when it came to my food. My first time visiting Houston Improv, it was great! Our server was friendly and attentive. I had a Dulce Vida Paloma and It was delicious. My friend and I shared a plate called Date Plate. 100% Recommend. The show was awesome. It was nice finally meeting Ralph Barbosa even though we didn't get to take pictures with him. So here’s my story: I’m currently in Level 1 improv... for the second time. Yep. I took it back in 2019 and, well… let’s just say I got kicked out for overly ”Boom! Freeze! Michael Skoon FBI! Boom! BOOM! Boom. Boom. Boom!” (that’s a joke—ifykyk) But seriously, even as a two-time Level Oner™️, I LOVE this experience.

Never been to anything like this. Definitely a must try! Dropped by for their Friday 8pm show and stayed on for another hour. Its BYOB and BYOF which I loved. The actors are really great and it's a fun night out (and definitely different). The secret group is a comedy spot/music venue/bar in the midtown/downtown area.
It’s nestled ima really interesting part of the city and really adds to the mystique and art style Houston should be famous for.
The Bar and comedy venue is directly through the front doors, in the back closed off by a wall is the music venue, which is why I came to The Secret Group this night with my wife. We went to see an excellent OKC No Wave/Metal/outsider art four-piece project. The soundboard/mixing was excellent which made the band sound crisp and organic. The stage isn’t super high so the band feels more on your level, which I always enjoy more. The venue is standing room only, you’d want that at a show like this. No one wants to get kicked in the head, or knocked out of your chair by the wayward circle pit thrasher.
There is a bar in both rooms which offer reasonably priced drinks:mixed, juice, white claws, and beer tap or otherwise foreign or domestic.
As well as a smoking area on the roof that overlooks the city and the highway.
All in all a great place to see a show or a band, I’d recommend it!

Had a pretty good experience at this place! The layout is pretty cool, the staff is friendly, the restrooms are not a mess, and there’s a few spots with cold water in case you’re about to die of exhaustion.
My main criticism is with the second room where the stage is. The AC could be better. It’s relatively small so there’s a ton of people crammed in there and it gets so hot that even the air is hot. There’s a lot of heavy bands that play there so I know it’s not a rare thing for that place to get super hot. My other complaint isn’t much of a complaint, just, get some newer security cameras guys. Like newer models of Wyze cameras haha. They’re like 40 bucks and much better.

I enjoy this place. Always a variety of unique acts. The upstairs terrace is a nice social smoking area with large picnic tables. T.S.G. showcases some really bizarre and unique talents be it freak show to kink show, burlesque or comedy, and musicians & Dj's of course. A wide range of talented local and national performers. Went to a concert here. First time going. Typical GA standing room only. The room may hold 200 people so you are within 50 ft or less from the stage. Be prepared for loud music. The room itself has it's own bar and bathroom. The intimacy to the band/stage is nice but know that you will stand all the time. The A/C was not set low enough. The band was dying and the closeness of the crowd made it sticky. Knowing that, I would go back mentally prepared.

I had a great overall experience at The Secret Group—it was my first karaoke night in Houston, and the venue really delivered. The club has a welcoming, alternative vibe that immediately stood out. There’s a strong sense of community among the patrons, and the atmosphere felt inclusive and fun.
The bartender was fast, efficient, and incredibly friendly, even while managing a busy crowd. I also appreciated how helpful they were in answering my questions. The karaoke DJ was equally sweet and made the night enjoyable.
However, I did want to share a concern about one staff member. A tall, slender man working the door was smoking a joint outside, which made me assume he was just another guest. I was caught off guard when he suddenly stopped me to ask for my ID in a loud and off-putting manner, standing uncomfortably close. The interaction felt inappropriate and left me feeling uneasy. Throughout the night, even though I remained inside, he continued approaching me to talk about his comedy routine, which felt intrusive and unwanted.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Well worth the amount I paid. I got 2 tickets to the Comedy Sportz show that happens Fri/Sat nights. My aunt and I had never been to a live Improv show before and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I was on the edge of my seat at some points and I could barely breathe. My aunt was pleasantly surprised despite this not being “her thing”! If you’re thinking about going in, just do it! You won’t be disappointed. It’s so affordable for what you experience. It’s a little blackbox theatre with folding seats, they were the padded ones! Every seat is a good seat, it is very immersive!
The parking lot is SO TINY though so you will be street parking or paying for a lot (which seems to be closed around the time of my show 8pm), if you aren’t there early.
I am looking forward to going back, since they do have a birthday reward/point program!

How wonderful to have a home in Houston to not only see incredibly well produced (and hilarious) shows, but also to take improv classes where all are welcomed and supported/surrounded by top-notch talent. I just finished taking Level 1 Improv with Connor and Manny and had a blast! They were fantastic teachers who helped our entire group step out of our comfort zones in a way that never felt intimidating. The beer prices aren’t too shabby. Paid $7 for draft lager but the food? Meh. I definitely wouldn’t come back to eat. Was out first time and had been super excited by the other foods I seen, maybe I just picked the wrong plate but overall just wasn’t for me.
The spaghetti Meatball Sammy was falling apart and I understand that would happen but they put no love into the “garlic” bread to make it toasty what so ever which made the Sammy weak. The bread didn’t even taste like garlic and the noodles lacked sauce.
My boyfriend’s fruit pie was horrendous to me. Cheese wasn’t melted at all and chips kind of tasted stale.
The dip was not hot either and lacked flavor.
Mostly all our food was not fresh as it could’ve been. Maybe won’t come back so late in the night for food.
For 2 beers, appetizer, and 2 “plates” it was $60. Deff not worth what they charge.

Prices that I paid for the food in total for myself and my wife, 1 amaretto sour, 2 long Islands and 2 cokes plus the food garlic knots, nuts and bolts and chicken fingers, $132 plus the table another $100+. My first theater experience post covid is the musical, Damaged Divas. I had not been to this theater before. So everything here is new. It is located in the heart of Town and Country area in West Houston.
So for those who work and play only in the loop are missing out. The music and singers are great. Since great appears played out, I should say each singer has a quality to their voice that resonates.
There are light snacks, wine, coffee, mimosas, sodas, and bottled water. Now if only they had margaritas. This is Houston. Chips and salsa with margaritas please 🙏 😋.

Paid $55/ticket for reserved seating and ended up sitting in the very back of the theater by the doors. I could not see any of the performers on stage . Went out and made ushers aware of the problem and asked if I could see some other performance at a later date. Was told no exchanges of any kind so I went back into the theater and looked at the backs of people’s heads. After several songs into the performance of Across the Pond, the usher finally gave me a bar chair to sit in so I can see the performance. Definitely not worth paying $55 for reserved seating when Music Box Theater can assign you seating in the very back of the theater by the doors. Not happy with my experience.

Fun & heartwarming performances as they soulfully recreated the Motown hits that meant so much to us in the 60’s, as we dated (in Pa.), but then eventually lived (in the Detroit area) for another 20 years! Talk about love/hate with the new location. In some ways it’s just as cool as the old one. Many people will probably love it and I’m sure it’s great for bass heavy music. When it comes to bands though, the sound is such a mess. There doesn’t seem to be any noticeable sound treatment. The bass and drums sound great, but the guitars sound terrible. Once the whole band gets to playing, you basically have to imagine the notes they’re playing. It’s seriously just a wall of sound. I was mentioning that to a friend and several people around me turned and agreed. Pretty disappointing if you like guitar heavy bands.

Look this is love it or you hate it kinda of deal. It was my first time there and I had a blast personally. Small venue, they have seats with tables upstairs that's like VIP or whatever I was lower deck and the entire time I was in the back by the bar and I still had a void view and amazing drinks. Definitely small gigs concretes but still fun it was warm bit they had huge fans so at least they tried I couldn't complain.
FWI: there's a parking garage across the street not even 5 minutes away or a mile away parking was cheap! 15 dollars for 17 hours!!! 17 hours!! Definitely worth it in my opinion.

This is probably the worst venue I have ever been at for live music. The place was completely packed and I could not even see the stage. Not even a little. I don’t think it was safe. If there had been an adverse situation, we would’ve all been trampled.

Wow, this is NOT a good venue. The OLD Warehouse Live location was a good place to see live music. This NEW location, however, is not. While the sound is good, pretty much all other aspects of the venue are not. Starting with getting in. This was a sold-out show and it took almost 45 minutes to get everyone into the venue. Doors were at 7pm and the opener started at 8pm.
The bar on the main floor juts out into the standing area and has some ridiculously large light fixtures that hang down, blocking the view. The stage is set too low for anyone past the middle part of the floor to really see anything and access to the floor area is poor. And then...the HEAT. Good grief, are they trying to save money on their electric bill? They have Big Ass fans (the brand name for those that don't know) but they have them moving at a low speed, so air circulation is poor over the floor area.
Won't be back to this venue again unless they make some serious changes to improve the experience.

It was my 1st and last time in this place. The concert was great but there NO AC. It's the stupidest thing. The place was packed and there were only 5 small fans working. Axelrad Beer Garden is one of those rare Houston gems that hits the mark for everyone. It's geared towards a young crowd, sure, but don’t let that fool you. I took my 76-year-old father and a close family friend in their 60s, and they had just as much fun as I (30s) did. We went on a jazz night paired with steak, and between the live band and the sizzling grill, the atmosphere was absolutely electric.
The space itself is massive and welcoming, with tons of picnic tables, cozy chairs, and colorful hammocks scattered across a huge neon-lit courtyard. The vibe is casual, creative, and inclusive, with the kind of energy that feels like a backyard party thrown by artists, musicians, and beer lovers all at once.

Evening came and went and we decided to pick a new spot for me . Ended in Axelrand &' most definitely coming back. Paw friend seem to be allowed in they have a free comedy show in second floor which really helped the night get started. We opened a tab, found our seats near the screen (movie night : Casper then Scream) found no kids in sights but did see a baby. They did ask for ID before ordering drinks &' our bartender was more then helpful in any our questions. A most definite if your looking for good ambiance with layback vibes. The vibe was gloriously hippie—I genuinely couldn’t tell if I was surrounded by free-spirited bohemians, queer icons, or just people who thrift better than I do.
The Drinks & Eats
Cocktails here are $20—a steep price for something that tasted like it was mixed by a bartender who meditates more than they measure. Decent, but at that price, I half expected enlightenment with my garnish. Luckily, the pizza redeemed things: blistered crust, gooey cheese, and toppings that made me whisper “namaste” to my slice.

In town and had a mega stressful day and found this place to unwind, de-stress & eat. All the bar staff were great! They let me sample some brews and I did end up going with their reccomends. They had a pizzeria adjacent and a pop up sandwich Yuma shop. I had the Bratwurst pressed sandwich. It was fantastic. My family owned a deli/sandwich shop for years and I am a sandwich snob 😆 but they delivered a perfect pressed sandwich which was great after a hard day. First time going last night and it was an awesome experience! Husband and I saw Ocean Valley and the vibes were great. Cozy atmosphere and it didn’t feel like we were on top of people. The only cons I have are the food and bathrooms. The bathrooms downstairs were nice but upstairs the toilets were pretty gross. The food wasn’t great either. For the price I didn’t expect something that seemed like microwaved frozen food. Didn’t hinder my experience though! 🤍 They should also look into making the area more wheelchair accessible. Came for first time with hubby to see Boney James. It was awesome but unfortunately the balcony left seats are not an optimum view and we had to watch the television to our left to see him unless he came to the center of the stage. We also purchased tickets for the restaurant but the menu they had was "limited" unbeknownst to us.
The entrance to the facility was extremely hard to find. Not to mention when the venue ended, there was NO ONE to tell us which way to exit and when I say EVERYONE was walking in circles, I'm not exaggerating. We finally came out of the building 3 blocks over from our car. And it is NOT safe to be walking downtown in Houston at night dressed up.

I am extremely very irritated at the fact that the nurses did not keep up with my belongings while I was in the ER. They removed my very expensive grill out of my mouth and assured me that they would put it with my belongings failed to do so. I find it extremely shady that the bartenders don’t disclose the 20% automatic gratuity. APPARENTLY it’s printed on the paper receipt, but the font is tiny, unhighlighted, not even circled. It’s nowhere on the menu either. When I asked the female bartender (who is consistently unpleasant, by the way), she just pointed to a dusty, HARD-TO-SEE sign stuck so high up on the wall it was practically on the ceiling that stated “20% gratuity added to all checks”. The place is also incredibly dark! Almost like it’s designed to make it harder to read the receipts and that sign… shady.
What’s even worse is that it isn’t disclosed when paying cash! NOT AT ALL. I wasn’t even given a receipt for my cash transaction. The many times I handed over cash, they would come back with my change and i’d tip them, because i didn’t know it was already part of the total. And not a single bartender has ever told me “Oh tip is included”. So they’ve just been happily pocketing the extra tip without at least letting me know? Which means I’ve basically been double tipping since i started coming to this bar?! It’s incredibly deceitful…
I’ve tried calling the business to bring awareness to this issue but the number on their website led me to an answering service. So it’s impossible to actually speak to management.
Spend your money elsewhere because this is definitely a suspicious business.
Dean’s has changed for the worst lately, and this was the last straw for me.

I had a random charge hit my credit card in early May. This was a charge in addition to what I was actually charged and authorized. I’ve called the listed number three times (which goes to an answering service) and waited on a return call for more than a week with no assistance.
Dean’s has taken no accountability for this yet and the answering service seems like an intentional dead-end for anyone attempting to contact management. I was told to call during operational hours to speak with someone at the bar but the number just looped back to the answering service.

Great place, chill atmosphere. Love it’s a old Iconic Houston store made into a bar. Front display windows of the old store are now couch patios. Great for people watching! You can even sit at a table in the old elevator shaft with closing door. Bathrooms take a little thinking one has a key one the door the other a lock for the key. Hint key goes into lock LOL
Vintage couches set up in separate sitting areas against a beautiful cedar wall. Great Happy hour specials! Kareoke was great !

I love this spot for an after work drink, they have 3 pool tables & it’s divey and chill. I like mostly everything on their menu food wise too. The emo and karaoke nights are really fun. I tried to eat there 😂 I was told by the owners 12 yr old that all pizza orders are to be done online . I didn’t realize it was all vegan. Hey I’m good with vegan and all into this but I wasn’t interested in eating vegan pizza when I don’t have to . And I know they do real pizza. The other day the bartender was taking orders when I was there for comedy Wednesday and doing a set. I am not eating vegan and I asked about pizza with real pepperoni and I tried to go online and it was so “I hate this word” discombobulated! What’s the real site to order from? Then I’m not finding the “real cheese “ “ the real pepperoni “ and it was just a total cluster fuk and especially with my T Mobil going in and out and people shouting “ go on wifi” fuk your wifi …. If you know anything about security you don’t go on wifi.. I have personal photos with very discreet people and my financials and other docs that are for my eyes only. I never use wifi unless it’s secure. Anyway I left and went and tried another spot.. I had a GOAT pizza at pizzaros and was quite impressed with this New York style pizza. And your viewpoint is the kitchen that they don’t try to hide😲 . Outdoor patio is as soon as you walk in, followed by a covered area with 4 pool tables. To the side of the pool tables was a section set up with a chalkboard menu of food that was being cooked outside. Ordered some breakfast tacos (good) and French toast (meh). Once I walked into the indoor bar it was somewhat small but open and clean. A tiny stage was on one side of the room where a burlesque show was going on. The two bartenders were both attentive and made good drinks. My sister asked for one particular drink that the bartender had to Google the recipe for (a Shirley temple with a twist).
