(原文) Apparently they are under construction with 2 of four floors unavailable for viewing. But they are charging full price for half the museum experience, doesn't sound fair. There also wasn't a guidebook to add to the disappointment, I was just walking around on pure vibes lol. For the portion of the museum that was available, there, the art and installments were beautiful. I loved that so many pieces could be tied back to Oregon including the founder of the museum. I would recommend viewing this museum when it's whole again.

(原文) Currently the museum has no temporary exhibition (the Monet’s water lolies closed on August 10) and most sections are closed for renovation, however no discount was applied to the tickets price. We entered only because we weren’t sure if we ever return to Portland. Part of the European and the American galleries were open and we enjoyed the paintings and sculptures. Staff was kind.

(原文) The effort put into the entire experience at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center was special. All the staff were really friendly and engaging, and the atmosphere in the main center was wonderful and family oriented. The same can be said for their train tour as well. Its a 5 mile back and forth ride on a well maintained steam engine with several cars. Each of the cars offers a wonderful experience, one even including ac wich was very nice. Will definitely be coming back to experience this again!

(原文) This is my third visit and I never get tired of it. There is always something new to discover. The staff is totally awesome and passionate about trains. So much wonderful history is preserved there. I learned there that unique trains can earn their listings in the National Register of Historic Places. It comes along with tax credits. There is hope for the E550-025 Electric locomotive from Italy, abandoned to rust since 1968 by the National Museum of Transportation of St Louis Missouri. Don't accept historic trains to let them decrepit. Portland doesn't do that.

(原文) We had a wonderful experience here! I want to say that the men and women who work behind the scenes on the exhibits go above and beyond and do an incredible job searching out and sifting through items and records to showcase history in a clear, honest, and interesting way. The new Yasui exhibit involves the family I married into and we were so honored and touched by the care taken in bringing our family history out so clearly and honestly. They were extremely gracious to the family members and we got a sneak peek of the exhibit. As for the rest of the place, we are going to have to go back to further explore all the treasures. They really showcase Oregon history and I believe they work hard to tell all the stories from many cultures living in our state. They said there is free admittance for Multnomah county residents! The only downside is they are located in downtown Portland and you will need to pay for parking and you may need to walk away. I believe there is a parking structure across the street and that might be a good option for some. It should be easy access for all, they have an elevator that my husband made use of because it is a large multi level place. If you don't know anything about the Japanese American internment camps during WW2, I highly encourage you to check out the Yasui exhibit telling local Japanese American history and highlighting a piece of often overlooked American history. This exhibit will be open for about a year. It is very personal and they got the stories straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

(原文) I am so glad I came! I learned a lot about the history of the city and of the state. I was unaware of a lot of the history, and what I did learn was mainly whitewashed. Not to say this was completely comprehensive, but this went into more depth than I realized. It should not have been any surprise that the natives were not treated well at all. I could seriously have spent way more time here than what I did. Reasonable admission prices, there is a lot of information presented here. I highly recommend this museum to anyone wanting to learn more about the state of Oregon.

Also a good job handling the racist and colonial roots behind the foundation of the state of OR as well as indigenous voices. I had never seen a KKK hood in real life before this day. It's important to acknowledge these realities.

(原文) Beautiful area to walk one or multiple trails. The Redwoods were beautiful. They have a small gift shop & 2 unisex bathrooms outside the gift shop, with a sink. The free shuttle has a drop off location at Hoyt. One short trail gives a beautiful view on a clear day of Mt Rainer & Mt St Helen. I had a great visit! Hoyt Arboretum is free and has no entrance gate.

(原文) This place was absolutely beautiful. I saw a tree i definitely would love to have on my forever home property - The Japanese Hornbeam. The Vietnam Living Memorial is such a great idea. I love the idea of a memorial that gives back to the Earth. Plus it doesn't just have names of their veterans, but info on what else was happening in their towns during that time. The rose gardens were absolutely amazing. The wide variety of roses was breathtaking. It was nice to see so many still in bloom. I think that was because roses have two bloom seasons and I just happened to visit during the second blooming season, late September. I will definitely visit this place the next time I'm in Portland.

(原文) Our family enjoys visiting this place for a peaceful and beautiful stroll. The fall is definitely a great time to visit with all the trees changing colors. Volunteers are sometimes walking about and can help you navigate the area if you're looking for anything in particular. There are paved paths and some gravel paths. You'll either pay for parking or park on the road. Keep in mind the parking lot tends to fill up quickly during peak times, like weekends and nice weather.

对于像我这样的初学者来说,这里真是个好地方!🌳🚶‍♀️🌲 (原文) This was my first time going to Hoyt Arboretum but it definitely won't be my last. Such a beautiful place to reconnect with nature. I went early in the morning on a weekday and I couldn't have picked a better time. It was so peaceful and had many of the trails to myself. I stuck to the flatter trails, as my shoes were more for strolling than hiking.I can't wait to explore more of the area and bring my sneakers to check out some of the slightly steeper trails. It's a great place for beginners like me! 🌳🚶‍♀️🌲

(原文) Hoyt Arboretum is a beautiful place to spend a day outdoors. We enjoyed a wonderful 2-hour hike through the lush trails, taking the Wildwood Trail up to Pittock Mansion via the scenic Barbara Walker Crossing. It’s peaceful, well-maintained, and a great way to connect with nature right in the city. Perfect spot for an easy adventure!

(原文) From the moment I saw a photo of the Redwood Observation Deck on Pinterest, I knew this was where I wanted to get married. There was something dreamlike about the tall Redwoods towering over the deck, and the light filtering through the trees. It looked like it belonged in a fairytale. Seeing it in person on our wedding day was even more breathtaking than I imagined. Booking the venue was a unique experience. Portland Parks & Rec operates on a lottery system, so we had to line up outside their office early in the morning to get our permit. It felt a little old-school, but it also made the process kind of special and exciting. Once we secured our date, everything else fell into place. The day-of experience was flawless. While a few of our out-of-town guests had a bit of trouble finding the entrance to Bray Lane (where the trailhead begins), once they arrived, it was only a short, easy walk to the deck. Despite being in a public park, the area felt incredibly private. The few joggers we passed were respectful, and there were no interruptions or background noise — just the quiet, calming presence of the forest. We were lucky to have a beautiful August afternoon. The weather was warm and golden, and the light filtering through the canopy and our chuppah created this soft, ethereal glow. Guests couldn't stop talking about how magical the space felt. It was serene, intimate, and completely unforgettable. If you're dreaming of a natural, woodsy wedding that feels tucked away from the world (while still being in Portland!), I can't recommend the Redwood Observation Deck enough. It’s already a popular choice for a reason, and after our experience, I understand why. Truly a hidden gem in the heart of the city.

(原文) I loved my experience touring this ship. One of the volunteers gave us a very informative tour and I could tell he felt passionate about the care and keeping of this ship. It's all volunteer run so it's important to donate and keep visiting treasures like this! This is the only ship of its kind in the US!

(原文) I had so much fun here! Our tour guide was fantastic, super knowledgeable and gave a really great tour of the whole boat and its history. The volunteer guides were both very sweet and seemed genuinely passionate about their job. One thing to know is that (I'm pretty sure) you have to book a tour on the website, or else you can't gain entrance to the boat. Hence some of the negative reviews where people just showed up to the gate and couldn't enter. I would say this experience is well worth it, especially if you're a history buff or like boats.

Lots of amazing little pieces of history and tons of models and artifacts that makes for a great way to spend an hour or two. The hourly tours that take you through every aspect of the working steam powered boat. Prices are reasonable and not too expensive, views on and off the boat are fantastic. Not too crowded and it’s a perfect way to enjoy a little piece of the past. Staff is super friendly and location is perfectly situated near downtown.

It was especially gorgeously beautiful in the last week of March 2025! The cherry blossom trees are breathtakingly beautiful, delicate, magical. (原文) Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park is one of Portland’s most iconic gathering spots, especially in the spring. When the cherry blossoms are in bloom, the park transforms into a sea of pink—an absolutely magical sight that draws locals and visitors alike. Walking under the blossoms or sitting by the river as petals drift through the air feels like stepping into another world. It’s festive, lively, and one of the city’s most photogenic moments of the year. Throughout the year, the park remains a hub of activity. Joggers, cyclists, families, and groups of friends bring a constant energy to the riverside path. Festivals, events, and casual weekend outings keep the atmosphere vibrant and social. The open green spaces are perfect for picnics or simply lounging by the Willamette River. That said, the park has faced some challenges in recent years. Cleanliness and safety have become concerns, and it would benefit from more consistent upkeep to match its status as a centerpiece of the city. Ensuring that the park is well-maintained would only enhance its appeal and help preserve the welcoming, community-centered space it’s meant to be. In short, Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park is still a must-visit spot in Portland—especially during cherry blossom season, when it shines at its best. With more attention to cleanliness and safety, it could truly live up to its full potential as one of the city’s most beautiful and beloved parks.

(原文) I'm giving it a 5 star because penalizing an establishment for a potentially lackluster "museum" isn't fair. It's more of a business play than anything else. If you're in the market for a vacuum come here and get a rep to teach you about what's needed to meet your needs. Apparently a good vacuum starts around 400 dollars and one must avoid robot vacuums because they're not as great despite the lack of human touch needed.

(原文) When traveling, my family likes to check out unusual museums and often finds a diamond in the rough. The Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY and the Banjo Museum in OKC are two stellar examples. We were hoping this would be, too. Although they had some neat examples going back to the first consumer vacuums, it was a pretty small display. The highlight for me was that they had the EXACT canister vac from the 50s that my Grandmother had, so that brought back some memories. They also have all manner of high end new vacuum cleaners for sale, so if you're in the market for something like that, have at it. All of that said, it was free and briefly interesting. So, if you're in the area, by all means, stop by.

The moment we stepped in, it felt like walking onto the set of a romance movie…roses in every shade imaginable, perfectly cared for, their fragrance floating through the air like a love spell. Every turn revealed another picture-perfect scene, as if the garden itself wanted to be admired. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where you can wander hand in hand and feel completely wrapped in beauty. Even the practical side is easy, with plenty of paid parking along the road, so the magic begins the moment you arrive. Truly a garden made for memories.

(原文) This is a must-visit museum! It brings the stories of Japanese Americans in the area (and in other parts of the USA) to life in a very moving, powerful and personal way. I spent many hours here and really got drawn in by the personal stories, belongings and “daily life” scenes on display. There is a ton to learn and see. The racism that Japanese Americans (and those denied citizenship) faced was heartbreaking, but the museum ends on an inspiring, uplifting and empowering note.

(原文) About thirty years ago I visited the museum to glean resources about my ancestors, John Philip and Julia Olsen who owned a farm in Orenco from about 1894 to 1920s and other family in Sherwood. Their seven children were born and raised on the farm. This past year, 2019, I finally returned to the museum with my old list, four pages long, to finally make copies of the printed materials. They are now held in one large notebook, 170 pages of precious material. The research staff were very prepared when we arrived and provided great assistance. I left with them information about my ancestors from those areas. Later I returned to the museum with the Oregon chapter members of the Association of Genealogists for an amazing tour of the facility. As a professional genealogist I have researched families in every state and many countries. In research for others I have enjoyed getting to know families of many races and religious beliefs. Being close to the land of my ancestors is always the most significant research that I do.

(原文) First off, I LOVE museums and spend a lot of time exploring them so I feel like I've got a pretty good "museum meter," if there was such a measurement tool. Sadly, our experience was underwhelming and, more accurately, a serious bummer. I'll start with the good: -I appreciated that they dove into some of Oregon original laws designed to keep non-white people from owing land or even LIVING in Oregon. Hate comes in all shapes and sizes and the museum showed how our laws supported discrimination and hate. Antisemitism comes hand in hand with the KKK and then some. Oregon history is painful! - In the history area, they featured a broad exploration of how and why Jewish people came to the U.S. In general, our society thinks of WWII as the catalyst for Jewish immigration, but there were SO many people in the late 1800s and early 1900s and earlier fleeing Russia for similar reasons (including my family). This museum got it right in focusing on other kinds of stories of people traveling to the U.S. for refuge and safety. I really appreciated the variety. Here's what puzzled and disappointed me: -We chose to visit the museum ON Holocaust Remembrance Day (which I believe is observed internationally... it's a big deal!!!). Given October's terrorist attack in Israel, I figured there might be some kind of special presentation, but there wasn't anything special happening at all. Nothing; not even a sign acknowledging the day. - I wanted to plan our visit carefully because we had limited time (2 hours, which is too short for a museum nerd like me). The website was not helpful. I had hoped for a list of exhibits, a map of the space, etc... Nothing. - We stepped up to the counter to pay for entrance and were greeted with a vibe-killer. :( The man taking payments was not at all friendly or welcoming; he barely made eye contact, if at all. Forget a smile! Too much work? I was excited to be there - this guy squashed my enthusiasm. - If that wasn't bad enough, I asked if there was a map of the museum or a some kind of guide to the exhibits. Nothing. So, I asked if maybe there was a QR code to link to a digital map (many places are doing away with paper maps/brochures, understandably). I realize that's not HIS fault. That responsibility is on the museum. But the look I got from him left me feeling dumb for asking for guidance. - So, for a visitor's tip... If you like to travel through a museum via timeline, DEFINITELY go upstairs first. Then come back down to the room where they visit modern day issues and action. It's a good follow up to the past. To the museum... - Get better info online so people can truly plan their visit. - Imagine a visitor never having been there and wondering what to expect and how to plan their time. Give them a guide of the museum through a brochure or QR code map. Many museums have a guide for how much time a person has, or if they're interested in specific things (history vs. art). Give people information on what’s there and where to find it. - Choose your front facing staff with care. The security guard was awesome! Honestly, he should be behind the counter welcoming people. And the guy behind the counter should have been in the uniform properly intimidating people. Maybe my expectations were too high? I've heard Holocaust survivors speak in-person, including the late Alter Wiener, a long time Portland resident who lived so much of his life educating people on the horrors of the Holocaust. I've been to many memorials, visited concentration camps in Europe that were turned into wonderful memorials and museums... so I understand maybe my experiences made me hopeful for more than we got. But given the other elements - like the lack of information on the website as well as the seriously unfriendly staff, sadly, I found this experience to be such a bummer.

I only took a few pictures so you will be surprised when you visit. I will be returning for sure.

(原文) I can't put into words how much fun this experience was. My friends, partner, and I were in town for a wedding and didn't realize our place would be right around the corner from this absolute gem but once we found out, we knew we had to go! John was absolutely exquisite as he guided us through such incredible tales with the drama of an entire theatre troupe! So many wonderful stories like Ramayan and Medusa, as well as a tour through the details and intricacies of puppetry well beyond the posted signs! I only wish we had more time (or were locals even!!) just to spend more time at this fantastical place! A must-see experience for a couple hours; tip well because they deserve to infinity and beyond! Will definitely come again whenever I am in Portland; keeping an invaluable artform and the child in all of us alive--BRAVO!!!

M — Google review
(原文) OK….So, my review is a dual review. First and foremost the owner definitely knows puppets, or marionettes, and definitely has a wealth of knowledge and experience. However my main reason for our visit was to see the 45 minute Nutcracker show. I don’t want to sound rude but for 15.00 bucks per person I feel robbed. There was a lot of stuffed creatures attached to sticks bouncing around to a prerecorded sound and voice track. My kids have put on home puppet shows and I had a hard time telling the difference between the show I saw at Portland Puppet Museum and my kids home show. Definitely nice and friendly folks but don’t set your expectations too high.

(原文) There's something extremely nostalgic about visiting a video store in 2025. It honestly just takes me back to the good old days when my family would go and we'd all debate on what movie we get or sometimes my parents would let all of us get a movie. The concession stand with popcorn, beer, snacks and other things. It's just awesome! It's all priced affordably it really makes the experience complete. The people working behind the counter are always knowledgeable, friendly, and are willing to help find a movie that you're looking for. I love the fact that they have the academy section where you can just see who won the academy award for best picture and just grab the movie right there.
(原文) Produce, baked goods, and food stalls galore! Walked through a beautiful, tree covered sidewalk on our way to the market (see photo attached). Once we arrived there were so many booths to choose from. It was hard picking out what to eat but settled on Twisted Croissant. They had both savory and sweet baked good options. Tried the Rosemary Ham & Cheese Croissant and the Wild Blueberry & Mascarpone Donut. Make sure to look behind you for a wait here sign when walking up to a booth. Made the wait fair and fast. The donut was deliciously light and just the right sweetness. And the croissant was fluffy, packed with so much filling, and what tasted like homemade mustard? Delicious! Still thinking about it one day later. Also tried golden raspberries for the first time from another stall. Tasted mostly like traditional red raspberries but still fun to try!

In September 2024, that fell on the same day as the Belmont Street fair. This museum was quite amazing. I did not get a chance to really talk to any of the people working. 这座由A.E.
(原文) Multnomah County Central Library was a great trip! It was my first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was. It's a three-story library. Everything is very nicely organized; it's easy to find different categories and genres of books. They have plenty of resources, such as computers and private rooms for writing, etc. Unhoused people do use this place quite often. If you live locally, you can check out up to 100 books; I believe you just need to log in to one of their computers, and they can print you a library card. You just need an ID and a local address.

(原文) The renovated library is wonderful! The big rooms for fiction and periodicals are filled with light and there are ample places to sit down and read or work at a desk. There are also study rooms, conference rooms, a writing room and a rare book collection you can sign up to use.

(原文) The library was able to get me the Omni magazine from 1980 and also to read a 2004 microfilm congressional hearing on Lunar Science! However, I generally cannot use it for reading or study because de facto it's a homeless shelter.

(原文) Great place to study if you’re in school also more importantly that there is a lot of homeless hanging around this library. A lot of unusual activity that goes on. It’s kind of what it is in this particular library, but the staff are very friendly. They can help you find whatever books and literature that you’re trying to look for

Google review
(原文) What a beautiful library. The donations to make this possible are greatly appreciated. It is clean and helps many homeless with access to materials and charging. The only loss of one star comes from the natural result of when many obtain power. Be expected to sit in a 90 degree angle or be told to leave. Be expected to fill out forms to enter empty rooms in advance or be told to leave. Be expected to sit in specific areas or be told to leave. The few who value their own authority over the spirit of education taint the image of this great building. I hope to return and not be treated with such restrictive measures that hinder what this structure was built for: to educate the masses. As many of the posters in this city say in protest, no kings or queens.

(原文) To all those brave enough to restore it to a library once again and take charge. This library feels more like a shelter than a place for research. Every computer was occupied — not by people using the computers for their intended purpose — but by people sleeping, scratching wounds, or simply hanging around. When I brought this up to the staff, I was told, “There’s nothing we can do.” That’s disappointing. Libraries are meant to be quiet places for learning and research, not improvised homeless shelters. I appreciate compassion, but not at the expense of patrons who need to use the computers and actually do library work. The library needs better policies and management so that everyone — especially those of us who come for its intended purpose — can actually use the space.
Zak Y — Google review
(原文) It's a nice midsize library, I saw many comments about the homelessness in the library but honestly didn't feel much of a bother when I visit. The librarians were all super friendly. It was a bit odd to see some with gigantic backpacks or hiking gears that might not fit into the library goer type but they just doing their own thing.

(原文) On an extremely hot day, I sought shade in the forest and found this perfect spot to walk my dogs and cool off beneath the deep, leafy canopy. (原文) This park is on a mountain with pretty steep elevation, so if you're not ready to climb, I would suggest just driving up and parking the car by the street and climbing from the reservoir area. It's much easier. The view is beautiful, especially from the peak of the park, and there are trails for both walkers and bicycle riders. There is also a dog park on the south side, which I haven't gone to, but I see many people walking their dogs heading down to that area. There are two reservoirs on the west side, providing a good view towards downtown, and picnic or camping right by the water.

It's definitely a busier park, but with how many trails there are, everyone is spaced out, and everyone we ran into was very nice.

Council Crest Park

(原文) So peaceful and serene, such a beautiful place. Terrific views of southwest, Mt. Hood, and north towards Mt. St. Helens. On clear days you can see Mt. Adams, and somedays in the right spot you can even see Mt. Rainier. (原文) Kinda expected to see more. I mean, scenic vista-wise. Not expected: an enormous water tower and communications tower as unavoidable main attractions. The set up designed for establishing the park site’s significance was odd. One plaque described a view of Columbia and Willamette Rivers along with Mt. Hood — except none of these was visible due to obstructing vegetation. A second plaque described an amusement park there — except that was in 1909-1929. So, the significance according to these markers were things not to be seen. On the OTHER hand, right there, impossible to be missed (the proverbial white elephant on the hillside crest), were the two towers. And they were both neglected by the Plaque Masters. Admittedly, the location is serene, nice for a leisurely stroll, and sparsely appointed with flowering garden sorts of features, like paths, benches facing random directions, a flowering plant here and there. Mostly grass, however. Those TOWERS though! My, I wanted to learn more about them. Perhaps next time? …
