There are three floors of this science museum. Not small and not too big that you can spend one day in here. You can see many animal specimen and informations of animal, space, electricity and etc. There are one indoor playing area and one outdoor playing area, both of them are playing about science theme which is quite interesting. My kids love here because it is not just exhibiting but also explore and interact with the exhibits. Our guided tour (ca. 1 hour) was done by a knowledgable, dedicated volunteer (our guide grew up just a few streets from the museum) and the entire museum and preserved factory space is beautifully presented. You can see the tools, work benches, office and all the steps involved in making a piece of jewellery from order via the raw materials and hand-stamping and tooling to shipping. Some machines still work and the tour guide will activate them to let you experience the workspace. You can ask questions and we learned a lot about the city’s jewellery trade in the industrial age. It is a National Trust site, so is free to members, although booking in advance is a must! Built in 1801 the guide will talk you through all of their history, from time of first occupation, up to the 1970s. The tour takes round about one and a half hours. There are many steep and narrow staircases, so not recommended for anyone who are not too steady on their feet. I was amazed at how people lived back then. So tough, and very hard work on a day to day basis. Incredible when you compare it to todays luxuries we all take for granted. Wasn't all bad though. The community spirit was strong, and something I would certainly savour now. I highly recommend this visit. Our guide John was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and happy to answer any amount of questions. I loved it!

The best National Trust we have visited, and we have visited many. The thing that made this so special was our tour guide Neil. He gave great passionate knowledgeable descriptions in every single room and made the experience come to life. I was cautious of a 90 minute tour with an eight year-old. However, the information that Neil gave kept her entertained and to be honest it felt like a 45 minute tour at most. Since visiting back to back, I have recommended this to simply everybody I know. Absolute time capsule within Birmingham telling the story of how coffins were made, decorated and shrouds made. An absolute must for any taphophile. Seeing the sewing machines, working press and shrouds was great however the smaller details really touched home. The worn wooden floor where years of workers tread. They had lots of things for the kids to do and and a craft fair was on in the hall, it was brilliant. The hall itself is wonderful and there are guides there that can answer any questions you have. The building was built in 1590 but Is impeccably maintained. There's a little family room upstairs with toys and games and stuff. The stairs are quite steep and might be a challenge for some people. The Museum has 100s of bikes ranging from racing bikes, drag racing bikes. A lovely selection of historical bikes dating back to the late 1800's. It was nice to walk around and see how the design of motorcycle and technology had evolved over the decades. All the bikes where in very good condition and well looked after. I would say a visit would take around 2 hours if you took your time. There is also a cafe in site that serves a selection of food and drinks along with a souvenir shop.

The staff /volunteers were so friendly. The car park said to hold 50 cars is very tight if you have a mid to larger size car. I understand that there’s a good multi-storey car-park nearby. We were lucky and found a space next to the disabled parking bays. There’s an art gallery upstairs which was nice. There’s a handy glass like lift in the middle of the house. A lovely gift shop next to the cafe and a second hand book store. Check out the printing press’s in the former owners garage, lovely engaging ladies in there. There is lots of places marked on the map as no visitor access also, and when it came to an abrupt finish ending up in the gift shop to spend more money, we where not told if there was anything else to go to or see and nobody creating us at the door or giving us wishes on our way. Parking is free and about good thing as the whole place appears run down, washed out and offers little to do for the whole family. Nothing is to much trouble for the volunteers. Love little snack bar and the gift shop is definitely worth a visit. Definitely be going back.
