The museum is a nice respite from the blazing temps. The museum was also a participant in the Blue Star Museum initiative to allow military members access to select museums. Active duty military members need culture and this program provides an avenue for the defenders of our nation. The museum is centered around a maze of hallways depicting all the tribes of native cultures from Arizona extending south. The meticulous detail provided to explain the cultures was above reproach. There were multiple different media presentations about the different tribes. If you like pottery this is the place for you. They have an extensive collection of priceless pottery on display. The many different varieties and handiworks are on display.

It was only $10 bucks for adults and $5 for kids. My 4 year old son really enjoyed watching a movie, getting to meet, and pet two bearded dragons, a snake, and a turtle. I will be honest, there's one huge room that is full of animal heads and a few stuffed animals, and it is quite overwhelming and a little much. If you aren't into seeing trophy wall animals, I would rethink coming altogether. This is a place for educational experiences and trying to keep an open mind while learning. Look at your history. I came here by accident while on my whirlwind tour of Blue Star Museums. Thankfully this awesome museum of massive historical proportions was a participating member. Thank you for this amazing program to expose military members to the arts. There were many exhibits detailing the state of Arizona. A colleague and I visited while traveling in town for a museum conference and were delighted to see a great mix of contemporary, modern, and Renaissance works installed in the museum's galleries. There is so much to see that I will absolutely need to go back. I spent my time going through the Kress collection, but there were several other galleries that I made a dash through at the end of my time that looked equally amazing. They clearly love being around the art and sharing what they know! I spent a little over six hours on site and they gave me lots of space to explore on my own but were available when I had questions. Certainly take some time to view the greatest hits they have, like "The Countess von Schonfeld with Her Daughter", the Altarpiece from Ciudad Rodrigo, and the "Portrait of the Marchesa Cunegonda Misciatelli." Each of these was worth making the trip all on its own, but there are so many cool other items. I really enjoyed "The Madonna and Chile with Angels", the "Tabernacle with Scenes from the Life of Christ" (this one is a little small, so look specifically for it), and "The Sacrifice of Iphigenia." Tickets were $15 per adult, and we arrived around 10:30 AM, wandering through the exhibits until 1 PM. There's no extra fee to see this outstanding tribute to the men and women of the greatest generation. It's currently undergoing some renovations for better preservation of all of the historical items that are on display. If you go on Mondays or Thursdays you will be treated to the chance to speak to one of two living heroes from the 390th Squadron and to listen to their heroic tales of their time serving our great nation. They have a wonderful selection of souvenir merchandise and water bottles kept in a refrigerator that was built in 1955, and it's still fully operational. We visited on a Wednesday and even though it was busy it didn't feel crowded. The cars are displayed in three different sections with ramps leading to the wings-one of which has the Batmobiles! The volunteers wear green shirts so they're easy to spot and are ready to answer any questions you may have. Plan to spend about a good 2 hours here even more if you're a car buff. The museum is wheelchair accessible although some sections might be a snug fit. There's is plenty of parking available. Admission is $15 per adult with discounts for children, seniors, and military.
