The bund, while pretty, gets unbearable when you go in and out of of the hotel, especially during traffic hours. Upper house is centrally located and super convenient. It is right next to the LV flagship store. The rooms are great (no cigarette smell like you get at many Chinese hotels). The concierge service could use some improvement, but like every good business person, it was corrected AND perfected by Lynn, who I believe is in charge of guest experience. The breakfast area was incredibly packed, but my experience was also made perfect by Mary Fonda. Overall, no hotel is ever perfect, but the Upper House is lucky to have both Lynn and Mary Fonda. 生日当天入住，下午四点多了房间还没打扫好，问了前台能否免费升级房型，前台说可以从侧江景房升级到正江景房，但由于正江景房没有大床房只剩双床房了，所以只能放弃，最后要求酒店礼宾部赠送了生日蛋糕。房间不算很大，但还比较整洁，晚上可以观赏东方明珠夜景，浴缸很大还可以边泡澡边看电视，床垫被褥也很舒适。

Also the QR code they insisted we scan to add the service staff on WeChat did not work (perhaps they were unaware that it actually directs to a hotel website?) and we were told to use the phone in the room instead…I used the lobby bathroom and walked in on a staff member who did not lock their toilet staff door…so awkward. On first arrival to the room the maid was inside, apparently doing turndown service (at 5pm?) not sure why they did not communicate with the check in staff as it made for an awkward encounter. I also noticed both the maid and staff doing the room tour did not take off their outside shoes when stepping around in our room… When calling for a buggy or asking questions about the property, every time we called on the phone it took over 10 rings to reach a staff member. When we walked around the property to explore the amenities we were asked multiple times if we were guests at the property and if so, what room number, which felt uncomfortable. Finally, there was no one there at the tea boat experience when it was our appointment time and we had to ask around - they actually got my name wrong as Li instead of Liu for some reason; finally staff came to set up the experience 10min afterwards. Stayed for 4 nights in September 2025 via direct booking. Services were excellent. Staff were of high quality and helpful. We enjoyed the morning breakfast (Chinese and western version) at the Michelin starred restaurant. My partner tried Chinese massage (quite pricey) and jacuzzi (not warm however) and sauna and they were amazing. Gym is available too although we didn’t use it. Our hotel room has 5 floors. Just be aware there’s 3 flight of short stairs towards bedroom. Library was great and intimate and you can sit and enjoy your coffee, tea and cake all day. 1 free cocktail (1x) which changes each day from 530-630pm. We had a midnight flight. We continued to use facilities until we left. Will definitely recommend and come back again.
