Very serene and beautiful as always We opted to stay at Northgate House as reviews sounded wonderful. Had deluxe room with balcony very nice. Unfortunately over the kitchen , sound of the fans from downstairs were a bit off putting. ! We couldn't open the patio door overnight as so windy there was no other window in the bedroom so opened the bathroom window . Which was OK until kitchen staff arrived early morning, quite noisy. Bed large , little on the firm side as we're the pillows. But we're replaced by softer ones on request. Evening meal on first night was delicious , well presented and served by a gem of lady who was very welcoming and attentive. A real asset to the hotel. Breakfast sadly let it down for us . It was as if breakfast was over at 9am and the young lady was intent on packing away rather than serving . We had no direction as to what we needed to help ourselves to or what was available to us. Coffee was tepid. We asked for it to be heated and recieved another luke warm coffee. We eventually were given a freshly made coffee , we had to ask for toast to go with the cooked breakfast . All in all put us off for the next morning so ate elsewhere.

No washcloths. There were small vials of body wash and shampoo. No conditioner. Room was made up daily. Restaurant on site for dinner, and also for the included breakfast. Breakfast was self serve, with many choices. Fresh yogurt with fruit compote and muesli, cereals, pastries, croissants as well as hot choices for eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, etc as well as bread for toast. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The accommodations are warm and cozy, nice for cold, snowy January. We had a lovely view of the church yard. The staff are wonderful. The pub is lively, usually, in the evenings, is clearly a local favourite. We ate dinner here several times, delicious and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good. We often visit the pub when in and around Chagford but havenn't had a Sunday roast here for a long while. It was really excellent. My husband had local lamb and I had a nut roast. You could tell the food was very fresh and home-made. It was very tasty, hot and well-presented. We followed up with the apple and blackcurrant crumble with custard - absolutely delicious. There is a little wait for food but it's totally worth it and we prefer to wait for good food like this. The service was excellent.

The house was perfect for prep, enough for a whole load of people to stay in and get ready and they rooms are really spacious. The house has great light too which is a photographers dream. The ceremony space was out by the lake where you can overlook the country views when the weather is nice. I also caught a glimpse of the inside ceremony space in the greenhouse which looked super cool. The GlassHouse is where the wedding breakfast was, dressed with long tables and styled so well. The light is incredible and the indoor plants really make you feel like you're in a different country. There are SO MANY awesome places for couples photos like the barns, back by the river and a really cool tunnel coated in greenery. I can't wait to shoot more at this venue in 2024 + 2025.

Upon arriving, not only was the car park full but the cars parked in it were parked so terribly that I couldn’t go through to the other side, I had to reverse back out and park outside on the road (can’t be helped!) Then we came in and meandered down to a cozy little room at the back which was very nice. The general vibe from the staff was very friendly, everyone was communicating with each other kindly and amicably, and we were served by a girl with long red braids who was very accommodating and friendly! The food, and I mean this sincerely, was to DIE FOR. Absolutely exceptional presentation, all served on stylish plates with a keen eye to detail, generous portions and a spread that satiates every desire for flavour! The pricing was very nice and competitive for the quality of food! The only small drawbacks were the main course was served without cutlery which we had to ask for and a table that wobbled until I stuffed a menu underneath the leg which is the only area where the Cott Inn lost points, and I sincerely mean that this review is actually 4.95 stars (if Google allowed) because these and the parking were the only drawbacks as they are only very very small attentions to detail that I would feedback! Our food was delivered in a timely manner and the friendliness of the staff was all very satisfactory, I would just advise not to rest on the laurels of exceptional food quality to miss out on very minor attention to detail that would have made this experience 10/10! We will return with hopeful expectations as the general experience was very good and hopefully sling a 5 stars result your way! It’s rare we, like anyone, can afford the time to go out for dinner these days and our experience was generally very good! I was lucky enough to be staying the night and managed to get a table in their very busy pub and restaurant. The room had a beautiful view onto the hills, and was clean and comfortable. A great spot to relax and regroup after a day out in the moors. The dinner offering was fab. We are currently here again in a lodge this time but the whole experience is very different. Overall the place is lovely, the setting is beautiful and generally the staff are friendly but there have just been lots of small things that haven’t been enjoyable. Today we were told the kids zone for our two young kids cost £25 per day. This isn’t a manned facility, it’s a room for kids to play in under parent supervision. For a hotel to cater for families and kids, I have no idea why they charge for it and it was free when we previously stayed. The lodge is very different to the luxury room we stayed in before. It is spacious but feels a bit sparse and not luxurious or homely. The oven pan was disgusting and could do with a new frying pan and didn’t have basics like salt. I understand if they want us to eat in the restaurant but booking it for the times we wanted in the evenings we were told there were no spaces. My wife and eldest son wanted a round of golf with an instructor and left two messages at reception for the golf shop to contact her to arrange the pro, but neither message was passed on and it became too late to get an instructor. And the continental breakfast for £20 per person was disappointing. Overall I’d say it’s a lovely place for a romantic couples weekend or you are out an about the entire time but for young families it wouldn’t be my choice again.

Families should head for the beautiful lodges, where they'll have plenty of space to noisily romp around without disturbing other guests — but still be able to use the hotel facilities. The entrance through sun soaked and beautiful garden was immediately inviting. I enjoyed the Sunday Lunch Topside of Beef which was outstanding along with the veggies and huge Yorkshire pudding, by far one of the best roasts I've had eating out and definitely recommend (the Cauli cheese alone gets 5*). Our party also thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Scotch Egg starter and mains of Fish and Chips as well as Fish of the Day plate. We rounded the meal off with a couple of puddings (a crumble I'd spotted being served earlier that we couldn't resist and an affogato served with the silkiest icecream). With our 1yr old in toe, the staff were hugely accommodating to the little one, preparing a high chair, accommodating our request of an extra Yorkshire pudding for him to enjoy and even offering to rinse the child's tableware we'd bought with us at the end of our meal. A good deal for mid-week dinner, bed, breakfast. Room: we got the budget version but found it comfortable, spacious, and the perfect temperature. We attended the Masquerade Dinner and Dance. The whole evening was wonderful. The homemade food was fabulous with a constant flow of canapés, I had to stop as I didn’t want to fill up before the dinner. Dinner was also lovely. The Sultans, the band were absolutely brilliant and quite a surprise as we thought they would be jazz but they played all sorts in a jazzy way and we danced all night! The hotel’s facilities were brilliant and we loved using the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. The spa was beautiful and I had 2 relaxing treatments by the lovely Tina (I hope I got her name right!) The barman offered us a drink with a 10% discount while we waited and was told the hospitality manager had gone home and he would try and sort out. Half an hour later we get a new key. Go to the room and it hasnt been changed since the last people. Poo in toilet. Sheets slept in. Shower and sink filthy. Old soap on the side. I then head back to the pub. We then get offered a free drink while they sort. No one in the pub has access to the booking system so can't offer a different room. They then decide to call the hospitality manager to come back. 45 minutes later she arrives. Isn't that apologetic and starts blaming the booking system. She goes off to sort a new room. Comes back with a key and off we go. I open the new room and realise immediately it is tiny and actually one of their cosy rooms advertised which is quite a bit cheaper than the room I booked. By this point I'm obviously annoyed so go back to the pub to catch her before she heads off. She isn't that apologetic and I tell her it's now 7.10pm and I've been here for 2 hours and I just want the room I paid for and it to be clean. She then states the only room she has is superior and costs more!!! We end up in the superior (this room costs more) it was clean but if I had paid the extra money for this room I would have been really annoyed. It wasn't superior. Tiny tv in the corner hidden behind a beam. No comfort. The whole place reminds me of a place children go to stay with their school. So after 4 rooms we actually get in a room at about 7.20pm. I have time to just quickly change out of my work gear and get to our meal late. On to breakfast... quality of the actual food was great but terrible buffet and limited choice for a 4 star hotel. Actually better breakfast at a Premier Inn! All in all a terrible experience and I would say with the lack of the services that a 4 star should be, the hotel is really a 2 or 3 star at most. - No 24 hour reception service - no one who can actually help out of hours - dirty dated rooms - unhelpful hospitality manager

It's really put a downer on the holiday. Had a visit to Buckfastleigh and decided to make a weekend of it. We came across Gages Mill Country Guest House and booked it. The reviews and location sold it for us and when we arrived we weren't disappointed. Both Kate and Nathan are excellent hosts, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for either of them. Set back of the road is a welcoming house and grounds teaming with wildlife. The gardens are well kept with seating all over the large grounds where you can relax and lose yourself for a while. Inside is well presented with a TV lounge adjacent to the dining room. The bedrooms were really nice with everything you need for a stay, ensuite bathroom with a large shower overlooking the gardens. We also had breakfast which was nice and set you up for the day. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay with top notch hosts and stunning location. Can't recommend this place highly enough, Kate and Nathan thank you both.

It was a delightful place to stay. Kate and Nathan were extremely friendly and welcoming and gave us great recommendations for trips out to local attractions( would definitely recommend the steam train and Buckfast Abbey ). Gages Mill is beautiful. The rooms are very tastefully decorated , a real home from home feel. Mum and I were in the twin , downstairs room , which had a lovely old feel to it , including the old fashioned high , pull chain WC ! A lovely touch to ensure the quaintness of the house has been retained! Breakfast was delicious - a great choice of pastries , cereals and delicious cooked choices too. We would definitely return for another visit and I’ve also recommended it to other friends and family to go and stay if they are ever in Devon too. My Mum left her coat behind , which Kate very kindly posted back to her free of charge. Thanks for that Kate ! I would love to return again to Gages Mill in the future and explore some more of the beautiful surrounding areas.

We stayed here for two nights for a wedding. Kate and Nathan were wonderful hosts and their b&b is the most perfect getaway. Our room was cosy and comfortable and we had everything we needed. They served us a lovely English breakfast that was both filling and delicious.
