Plus points: Great, friendly staff. Building/rooms very clean and in good order. Amazing food with an excellent selection (dinner and breakfast). No air con in the room but there was a fan. Perfect location. Short stroll along the river bank into Ironbridge Negative points: The mattress was well past its best and needed replacing I would definitely stay again. Firstly the staff are absolutely superb, nothing is too much trouble for them and they go above and beyond to help. The rooms however are pretty basic for the price, double bed, built in wardrobe and ensuite. Our room ( 5 ) was very small but double aspect, unfortunately looking over a flat roof from both windows. Due to the age and design of the building, there are no lifts to the upper floors. Our room didn't have air-conditioning, just a fan. Now, the negatives. Only 1 bottle of water is provided in the room, not much coffee or milk either. None of this is replaced when the room is made up, so you have to contact reception for extra. This is NOT acceptable in this day and age, and gives the impression of cost-cutting. It should be part and parcel of servicing a room.

Check-in was smooth, though most of it was completed online beforehand. On arrival, the room felt underwhelming. The tea and coffee tray was fine, but there was only one bottle of water provided for two guests. Something as simple as one per person would have met expectations. The décor in places could do with touching up, and cables had been crudely tacked along the wall. The bed initially seemed comfortable, but more on that later. We had dinner in the restaurant and couldn’t fault the food or service. Breakfast was also tasty and well presented, with friendly staff. Unfortunately, the experience was disrupted when the fire alarm went off. Guests were directed outside, but no headcount was done at the assembly point, and upon returning I noticed that no staff had directed anyone to the nearest emergency exit. This felt concerning from a safety perspective. The lack of soundproofing was a real issue. We could hear absolutely everything from the neighbouring room, from light switches and the toilet seat to conversations and even the bathroom fan that ran constantly. Once in bed, the pillows proved very poor, offering no support and resulting in a restless night. The information pack stated extra pillows were available in the wardrobe, but this wasn’t the case, so we had to call reception for more. Unfortunately they were just as uncomfortable. The bathroom was also disappointing. The shower was awkwardly positioned under a sloping ceiling, meaning I kept hitting my head. The complimentary toiletries were basic and felt cheap. There are no lifts in the hotel, so be prepared for stairs. Around the property, at the bar, reception, and even on the back of the room door, there were QR codes and tap-to-pay devices for staff tips. While I appreciate staff recognition, the presentation felt overbearing and somewhat off-putting. Overall, the food and service in the restaurant were excellent, but the room, noise issues, poor sleep quality, and safety concerns significantly let the experience down. Unfortunately, a comfortable night’s rest is the main reason we stayed, and on that front the hotel failed to deliver.

The starters were bang average but the mains were poor… Stroganoff - missus said it didn’t have much flavour and the steak pieces were tiny, which they were. BRB burger - probably the most disappointing burger I’ve ever had in a restaurant… patty’s were made from incredibly processed meat and were like rubber, barley any blue cheese and the chilli jam had no flavour at all - had nicer from a burger van on the A5. Coleslaw watery. The positives were that the chap who was behind the bar had great hospitality and the cocktails he made were good. We can't fault the staff who were really friendly especially the young guy who checked us in. But the rooms are extremely basic and as mentioned by other reviews they have cobwebs, and are not particularly clean. Our first night after having a lovely meal out we decided to try to go to sleep around 11.30pm as we were out early morning after breakfast for a spot of fishing on the river, however the music was pounding till 1 am . This was unbearable...and if we had 3 hours sleep that was it. Breakfast was ok, but we decided to pack up and leave a day early. This place is very tired, and needs a complete refurb. I strongly advise not to stop here especially if you actually want to sleep! I don't understand how they are getting away with this late night noise pollution especially in such a beautiful, stunning location, I hope they get done for it very soon. Don't waste your money staying here...there are other clean,. friendly and very quiet places away from this hole. This is no reflection on the staff who we found very friendly and worked extremely hard.. but obviously a management problem. Also forgot to mention that our bathroom which was over a hallway had no place to hang out towels to dry and also the doors were very noisy to go to the loo in the night. Generally a really bad experience.. avoid!!

We were taken to our room which was a nice touch and told about local services if we needed them. Our room overlooked the courtyard, really good size and we had a bathroom with own shower. Nice touch with the free toiletries and we had a fan in our room which was a good addition! You get left with a key to the fire door if you're back late which again is great and don't feel you are restricted to a curfew. They don't have parking but we parked on the museum and just extended. Tip: take a photo of the QR code so you can extend without walking back to the car. We had a drink in the courtyard after check in which was such a sun trap and we really felt relaxed there. Good choice of drinks available. Slept really well in the room and the pub is on the whole quiet after closing times. In the morning we were welcomed to our table and we could help ourselves to cereal and yoghurt. The orange juice was a nice touch. I know there was water available but maybe a suggestion to put these next to the yogurts if people need it. There's no breakfast menu and it sounded the only choice was a full English. I'm sure you could ask for anything and they would have made it as the server was so attentive but maybe offering a menu or a choice as some people don't like to ask in case they feel awkward. The breakfast was delicious. Generous portion and you could have extra tea/coffee and toast if needed. We were asked if we wanted marmalade or sauces which is taken from the kitchen. Probably a good idea to put this on a table so people can help themselves? Wasn't a massive issue though. On the whole we had a lovely stay and we would stay again!

As we entered the lovely lady (didn’t get her name) told us where everything was and we got seated to look through the menu. When we knew what to get, we placed our order and waited for about 2mins for our drinks. Then our food came 10mins after, which i was not expecting it to be that quick. I got the breakfast wrap which had bacon, sausage, egg, cheese and hash brown. Honestly i couldn’t believe how good it tasted after the first bite. Then my mum got the small breakfast which included: beans, sausage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and toast. There service here was incredible and couldn’t ask for better service and food. Would definitely recommend this place to get some good food.

First impressions were not the best the bar tender was most interested in taking our payment rather than serving our drinks and was rather unwelcoming. We were advised there was no change therefore we were forced to leave her with the change (£7.81) which were not impressed with. Thankfully the weather was lovely for a Saturday in November so we decided to sit outside. We then met Jade as she was clearing tables from previous customers. Her customer service, genuine interest and happy nature shone through and turned the experience all the way around. She engaged with us, informed us that they were a hotel, informed us of the latest refurbishment and swotted us up on the Christmas events calendar - even given us her personal recommendations from the menu, offered to take photographs of our party and took a genuine interest in speaking with us. She had us all in fits of laughter (and all of the other customers seemed to be in total awe of her) just what I needed after a rendering diagnosis I have recently received. Ideal location, right in the middle of the town and easy access to parking just over the bridge. Had everything we needed and most importantly super clean. Breakfast is served at another pub about 30 yards away and was spot on. Great value for money given the location. It needs a makeover. We had a lovely day out with our young children and chose The Golden Ball Inn based on its 4.5-star reviews. Sadly, the reality could not have been further from that. We ordered steak with peppercorn sauce, onion rings, chips, and two pizzas (Margherita and chicken & BBQ). The pizzas were overcooked, one so badly the crust was rock solid and inedible. I tried a couple of slices and politely raised the issue with the young male bar staff (in his twenties), even showing him the crust. He said he would speak to the chef but never returned. The lack of communication left me frustrated. When I went to pay, he tried to charge me for the full bill of £54, including the pizzas. When I refused, he became defensive, dictating what I “would” pay, even claiming that if I’d eaten any pizza, I would have to pay. How dare he dictate to a customer? His behaviour was shocking and is the main reason I am writing this review. The chef (a woman in her 50s) came out after being called. I showed her the burnt pizza crusts, which my children had refused to eat. She dismissed my concerns, claiming “this is how they always come out” and still expected payment. Handling our food after serving during a dispute only reinforced that no customer should pay for it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, food must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. These pizzas were not. I was fully within my legal rights to refuse payment and even offered to leave my details if they wanted to pursue the matter in small claims court — not meet me with arrogance and hostility at the bar. I paid only for the items that were acceptable (steak, onion rings, chips), but instead of professionalism, I was met with defensiveness, hostility, and effectively told I was “not welcome back.” This ruined our evening so much that I didn’t eat anything at all afterwards. The bedrooms sheets had stains on them so a change of sheets would be absolutely perfect. The durability of the bunk beds needs to be tested as a child could easily break them apart. The toliet sensors need to be stronger as there is short powercuts in the toliets every 5 mins or so. There is no garden present which indicates that the website is lying.

Coalbrookdale has its place British history. You have to decide how important it is. This hotel gave me the experience I was looking for: why was the English first in the Industrial Revolution. I stayed in the Pritchard Room which had a great view of Abraham Darby's Iron Bridge. The breakfast offered by Bridge View restaurant downstairs from your room made the visit enjoyable. Chelsea checked me in. The restaurant staff is the hotel staff. You check-in with the restaurant staff. Chelsea and her friends are locals. They are friendly & helpful. Parking is available for hotel guests. It is a short walk (5-8 minutes) away and you will receive a metallic key to open the lock on the parking lot gate. You park your car. You drop off your luggage with the staff at Bridge View restaurant while temporarily double-parked in the road. There is no parking on the street. Metal posts block off any possible parking. This is not the Ritz-Carlton of London. For me Coalbrookdale's legacy was interesting and worth a visit from the US.

The room was full of fabulous treats (cake, wine, biscuits, coffee, tea and juice) plus water and toiletries. Shower was lovely, hot and powerful. Nothing was too much trouble and they took time to come over each morning and check in about your night. Breakfast was fantastic. Huge amount of choice from continental to full English. The quality of ingredients with the way in which it is was cooked and presented was great.Hardly anything I'd change but I would of loved a little bit of net or voile for privacy from the top of the bottom window. On arrival you are welcomed by Victoria and made to feel very welcome. After you are shown to your room you are invited to the lounge area for tea and scones if you want to, no pressure of course but believe me they were lovely. The host Kay and Paul, couldn’t make us more welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the size of room as well the en-suite was very spacious. In the evening we spend time in the communal room with a open fire and TV. The breakfast was amazing and cooked to perfection. The location of the Viaduct Guest House is ideal for sightseeing and visiting museums etc. We can’t rate the whole experience highly enough and we will be back when the Viaduct Guest House is open for business.
