I turned left at the main roundabout and was able to park in front of the Old course hotel. A good start to a day that just got better and better! A Quick Look in the pro shop at the merchandise and into the Jigger inn next door for a beer. It had been raining and was chilly so even though there were heaters and rugs were available I had the patio area to myself! Choose the salmon and Ruaraidh behind the bar suggested onion rings as I don’t eat salad, nice touch! The sun came out and I moved to table 35 which is right beside the roadhole fairway, not for the faint hearted as a sliced drive could end up at your table! After absorbing the atmosphere and watching some very good drives landing within yards of my table I bought some golf clothing from the shop and leaving my trusty van parked up under the flagpoles I took my clubs to the driving range behind the hotel. This involved walking back towards the seventeenth tee past the iconic red flag to warn those on the tee that the fairway was not yet clear! The driving range was the classiest I’ve used, Callaway balls no less. Chatting to the friendly staff they informed me that as a municipal course after wages and outgoings,all profits are spent on the course, it shows! After the range I returned the clubs to the van and took my putter and some balls across the 17th and 2nd fairways to the putting green outside the new course clubhouse. The locals and visitors have right of way so no issues with irate golfers, just normal courtesy rules apply! As I couldn’t bring myself to spend £340 for a round on the old course I was more than happy with my practice. After leaving the putter back in the van I walked up to the famous roadhole green and stood on the famous road watching the golfers putt out yards away. Into the famous Dun Vegan inn for a pint and a look at the photographs and stopped outside to look at the corner of the street were after a few drinks in the evening I believe Ernie Ells hit a wedge over the buildings onto the eighteenth green, very impressive. As I had booked a table in Rusacks for 6 pm I only had ten minutes to visit the golf museum behind the RandA clubhouse where I bought a print of famous view of the 18 th green and buildings behind! Got the best table in the 18th restaurant, I was on a roll! The steak and steak butter was excellent but a wider selection of vegetables would help. Back down the 17th to the van as the shadows lengthened on the bumps and hollows and a final soft drink in the Swilken Loft and in my opinion the best view of St Andrews! So went back to change tee time for 14:00 ( not ideal but willing to compromise) However we could not book a tee time for 14:00 until all other tee times were booked. It’s a shame I don’t have two good legs, serves me right. We’ve been in Scotland for a week and the visit to the west coast and playing courses there were fantastic. Troon is a must go and Dumbarnie is excellent but St Andrews is a miss especially if you’re handicapped, they don’t really want you here except for your money.

Brought back so many great memories. It’s such a beautiful park and the garden were in Bloom. It’s a shame that Dutch Village was closed for refurbishment but it didn’t spoil the enjoyment. Only reason I’m giving three stars and actually I would have given two stars would’ve been for the catering. The café was pretty awful. The coffee was not nice at all. We did not finish that and the prices for what you were getting were overinflated. My mother had a toastie That was very basic and I had ordered a chicken mayo sandwich which was so disgusting and bland. I took a bite out of it and could not finish it. The mayonnaise was on soft white bread (no option other than cheap white pan bread) leaking all over the place. It was more like a mayonnaise sandwich. I feel some attention needs to be made to the food area as it really is a disappointment to what was otherwise a lovely day out. In summary, I would recommend you bring your own food and drink with you.

We paid for electricity so we could play music. The outdoor games that were included went down amazingly with everyone. The park is very clean and well looked after. The facilities are great. There is plenty to do for all ages. The gardens are a lovely walk with fairy gardens and activities to keep the kids amused. Plenty of playground equipment and a small shop, cafe and coffee bar. Very good ice-cream served. There are rides which you can purchase tickets to go on from the shop or you can get a day wristband (currently £11). Loads of parking and plenty of picnic benches. The Dutch village is currently fenced off as it is getting refurbished, but hopefully it will be completed soon.

It doesn't matter if we go there in the winter or the summer, we have just as much fun. The park is always kept clean, there's so much space for the children to run around and explore. In the summer it can get busy as the attractions open so get there early to get a good car parking space, but even when it's busy, the park is so big that you never feel like you're bumping in to people all the time. There are multiple toilet blocks dotted around the park and in the cafe which are always clean. The cafe has plenty of room inside and out but be warned it is a simple menu and the staff don't ways get it right. There's a pretty decent play area for the kids which has just had a new upgraded slide installed that my kids love. Get down there an have a blast, go explore the little fairy garden, the wonder gardens and all the other little treats around the place. Then if it's running, jump on Puffin Billy back to the carpark. Have fun
