(原文) Definitely worth the visit and the money. Got the ultimate explorer which allowed unlimited access for 12 months. 1. 10.15 to 11.30 am - HMS Warrior - (Definitely say hi to the lad on table 27) 2. 11.30 to 12 noon - snack break (better to carry snacks from home) 3. 12.15 to 1 pm - Harbour boat tour (included with ulimate explorer ticket) - they take you round the dock and give an overview of the surroundings There are tours every quarter past (10.15, 11.15 etc) 4. 1 to 1.30 pm - Mary Rose - I didn't find much to see here apart from the ship - the 4D cinema is not actually 4D, there are no glasses 5. 1.30 to 2.30 - HMS Victory- they give you audio guide to listen to 6. 2.30 to 3 - Lunch (fish and chip cost 15 and chicken cojouns and chips cost 13) 7. 3pm onwards rest of the places Had to skip water bus due to shortage of time, hence couldn't see the submarine and firepower museum. Note: if you are traveling with kids/elders be mindful because some of the steps are steep. Overall it was grand.

(原文) Great day out, but come more than once to see everything. If you only came once for a few hours, it would not be good value. The boat tour was great, really good commentary. Other boat trips to various attractions often full. Lots of places to eat and drink. Without fail, all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Only negative is that the only way to get a map of the place is to buy a guide book!

(原文) A great day out for all the family, particularly history buffs! Get the all inclusive ticket which gives you access to all the exhibits. Really, it can be a two day visit if you want to include the submarine and explosives museum and boat tour. Be aware though that the explosives museum isn't open every day.

(原文) A friend recommended the Dockyard, and it was absolutely worth it! We spent two full days there and still didn’t manage to see everything. The site is huge, with a 45-minute guided tour and several themed museums. The Submarine and Firepower exhibitions are located in Gosport, which you can reach by water bus, so it’s best to plan your time accordingly. Overall, a fantastic experience.

(原文) If you like modern history, especially World War II, then you must visit this museum. The exhibition hall explains the details of D-Day in detail. Whether it is the preparations before, the difficulties encountered, or even the detailed actions on the day, they are all explained in a clear and story-telling way in different exhibition areas. At the same time, you can also see many D-Day-related objects in this museum, so you can clearly understand the situation at that time. You can spend about two hours here.

(原文) If you're in Portsmouth or staying here for a break I would thoroughly recommend coming here. Allow plenty of time to take in this experience. There are many interactive displays with videos showing actors recreating scenes from D-Day. The whole complex is well laid and also houses the D-Day tapestry an impressive work depicting the start right through to finish of D-Day. Outside there is also a fully restored landing craft used at the time which you walk around and get to see what it would feel like.

(原文) This museum hosts a number of great relics. Between the last remaining LCT to the Grizzly Sherman and the Crocodile Churchill tank ready to go in her well deck to a unusual tank recovery vehicle Sherman and a DUWK this museum packs a lot of punch for its size. A great start for a commemorative WWII tour for the battle sites across Europe.

(原文) Quick Takeaways 🏛️ Lovely, modern museum with excellent displays and easy parking/access ⚓ Highlight: large restored landing craft — striking in scale and simplicity 🌧️ Criticism: landing craft is only partly covered, less appealing in bad weather 🎨 Vast and impressive embroidered artwork — a hidden gem ✨ Atmospheric layout with strong use of lighting and colour ☕ Pleasant café and well-stocked shop add to the experience 😀 Overall: very impressed, with friendly and welcoming staff Full Review This is a lovely museum with very good displays, convenient parking, and easy access — all topped off with a pleasant café and a well-presented retail store. The gleaming beacon of the museum is the large landing craft, lovingly restored and displayed in a way that really shows its scale and simple yet effective design. My only criticism is that, apart from a roof, the vessel is otherwise open to the elements — which could make walking around it less desirable in poor weather. A short walk from the landing craft takes you into the museum itself. The building feels new and fresh in its layout, and in keeping with many modern museums, the clever use of lighting and colours creates a very atmospheric experience. The displays are clear, engaging, and do an excellent job of telling the story of D-Day. One of the standout features for me was the vast embroidered artwork — something I hadn’t even known existed before visiting, and it proved to be both surprising and impressive. The café and shop are also well thought out and worth a visit in their own right. Overall, I was very impressed with the museum and the friendly, welcoming staff who made the experience all the better.

(原文) I went there on a school trip and it was absolutely amazing. The ship is huge and you could see all of it from the glass rooms. They had projected people doing Tudor jobs and they were so incredible. The 4D cinema was so realistic as there was a fan blowing on us for when we were on the sea and real bubbles for under the sea. The gift shop had lots of variety and well made handcrafted gifts. Definitely recommend to a family day out.
Sophie H — Google review
(原文) We have the tickets for all the places to visit for the whole year and will definitely come back to see more. We couldn't fit it all in one morning but we loved the Mary Rose museum and the new feature of the 4D small cinema on the top floor. We also visited the HMS Victory which is great too.
Hannah — Google review
(原文) An absolute must when you’re in the location. A truly remarkable survivor. The museum is different every time we’ve visited. So much to see and learn. The technology is incredible.
Paul M — Google review
(原文) Nothing can prepare you for the spectacle of the ship. I walked into the darkened space and found a window to look across at this 500 years old ship. Rooted to the spot, my mouth went dry and for some reason tears started. What followed was an onslaught of sensory stimulation. You get an insight into the people who built the ship, the men that crewed it and the life they had. When was the last time you were THAT close to Tudor England, to timbers felled in the 1400's, to the pursers boots and the shipwright and carpenter that you can almost, almost touch and feel? Incredible. Not so incredible were the out of order and dirty toilets. Men and womens. Also, the tour guides need to hush up a little. Shouting instructions in a cathedral of Maritime Tudor times just isn't appropriate. Some of us want to drink in the place, in peace.
Jim D — Google review
(原文) An absolut must see if your fascinated with nautical stuff. It's a state of the art museum displaying everything to do with The Mary Rose Tudor warship. The 4D experience is marvellous to watch. Arelly atmosphere here as you immerse your self back in time with the tour guides. Staff are super friendly, disabled friendly, toilets on site kept really clean. Lovely gift shop.

(原文) Mary Rose Museum Portsmouth – Storia, avventura e reperti unici .

Guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Was somewhere I had wanted to visit for many years. Receives a 4 because on that particular day conservationists were inspecting the ship and so I didn't experience the videos or atmospheric conditions that I'm informed usually make it a more memorable and engaging experience. I appreciate such work needs to be done but perhaps outside of visiting times or slightly reduced ticket price on such days.

(原文) HMS Victory – Weathered Majesty Mid-Restoration HMS Victory is currently undergoing a major restoration project, expected to last at least a decade. The work is essential for preserving this historic vessel, now 260 years old—but it does mean much of the ship’s usual atmosphere is obscured. Canvas coverings and scaffolded areas interrupt the visual experience, and key spaces like the Captain’s and Lord Nelson’s cabins have few artifacts on display. Despite this, the ship remains a deeply compelling visit. Handheld audio guides allow guests to explore interactively, offering insight at various points throughout. The most poignant moment comes on the sickbay deck—where Admiral Lord Nelson died—a stark, quiet reminder of the ship’s legacy and human cost. In addition to walking her timbered decks, visitors can also pass beneath her hull in the dry dock. There, the immense grandeur of this old lady is fully felt, as she sits in splendour—elevated not just physically, but historically. The underside of Victory, exposed and monumental, adds a deeper resonance to her endurance. Victory may not currently look her best, but her bones still speak. This restorative work is her lifeline, ensuring future generations can stand aboard and feel the weight of history beneath their feet.

(原文) HMS Victory is a legend of naval history – and seeing her in person is unforgettable, even though she is currently under long-term restoration. For the past three years the work has been ongoing, and it will continue for almost another decade, but this makes the visit even more fascinating: you don’t just admire a historic ship, you witness the painstaking process of preserving her for the future. Walking her decks, knowing this was Nelson’s flagship at Trafalgar, is both humbling and inspiring. Even behind scaffolding, the spirit of history is alive – a living monument to Britain’s maritime heritage.

(原文) HMS Victory is truly iconic. I’ve seen it so many times on TV, and it felt incredible to finally step aboard in person! After the ticket check, you can pick up an audio guide and follow the route through the ship, which gives a clear picture of the Battle of Trafalgar and Admiral Nelson’s story. It even marks the exact spot where he fell. Standing on deck, imagining one of the most significant naval battles in history, is a truly special feeling. Huge thanks to the staff for their excellent preservation and restoration work!

There is an audio guide around the ship which is really informative. The ship is being restored so there is a lot of scaffolding. It was great day out.

(原文) What an amazing ship! How on earth was this built without modern technology is unbelievable. At present going through a lot of remedial work, but all decks are open to the public. See the spot where Lord Nelson was shot, and the place he actually died. Give yourself at least two hours to visit. One of the best attractions in the country.

(原文) The ship is being renovated so we didn't get to experience the wind blowing through our hair whilst visiting, all the more reason to come back when it is finished renovating in ~10years! Audio tour was very informative and immersive!! The staff was ready for all the questions we managed to come up with and they were all very approachable! Special thanks to the woman that demonstrated how the canons worked back in the day on one of the few original cannons still aboard! We absolutely loved our time there and would have gladly spent another hour just talking to the great people on the ship!

(原文) British Naval history in a nutshell. Sadly dismasted and under wraps at present (2025). Very knowledgeable guides and lots of entertaining anecdotes for children and parents too. Watch your head in the narrow lower decks and your footing going up and down the ladders. There are no toilets onboard, known as heads on a Naval Vessel, but plenty in the main dockyard and other attractions included in your rather expensive ticket! Best o get a discount when available or buy an annual ticket as it takes many visits to get to see most of the attractions dotted around the harbour or in the Historic Dockyard. There is a golf buggy to transport you from the dockyard entrance gate, where your bag will be searched, to the main Victory arena. Or you can borrow a wheel chair . Mind out for the old railway lines though! Many places for lunch and seating for your picnic even a discrete garden behind Captain Scott of the Antarctic's statue. Good shops with a wide variety of relevant memento to be tempted by.

(原文) What an interesting ship, the most powerful warship on the planet for over 10 years, in the mid 1800s. The exhibition below deck, the actors, the material given out, and the whole experience, is superb. Well worth a visit.

(原文) HMS Warrior is the first iron hulled warship to have been built. It is accessed easily enough using a ramp, but then requires some agility to view other deck areas via ladders. Built in 1860, this ship has decks that are sectioned (to minimise flooding issues), unlike earlier ships where you can walk all the way up or down each deck before assending or descending to the next deck, this ship requires you to go up and down several ladders to view all parts. It is fascinating to see how many coal burners were required in order to provide fuel for this steam beauty. Obviously this old ship comes with the appropriate smells of time. I really enjoyed my time on board and can't wait to go back and see any sections I missed, because I found the layout fairly confusing.

(原文) Still defiantly afloat, HMS Warrior is a fitting taster for the rest of the Historic Dockyard. Check what is the current best value ticket as you will need a full half day to enjoy HMS Warrior alone. Well informed guides can answer all your questions, som e steep access ladders and because she is afloat the long gang way may have a shallow angle when you get on but as the tide rises so will the angle steepen. Not really wheelchair friendly! Near Christmas she carries a string of lights aloft and the starlings which roost under the railway station can be seen in murmurations before they leave for the Winter. If you buy a Historic Dockyard ticket you will need three days to do the exhibits justice. There are good toilets for visitors and cafes restaurants and picnic areas to suit all tastes. Lots for children to enjoy and a shop for your mementos and presents to take home.

(原文) At first it appeared to be a rather spartan looking restoration of a warship I had never heard of. The weather was miserable and the main deck was empty and dreary. Once below deck however she came to life. The attention to detail in every corner of the ship was quite obvious. Just out of curiosity I ran I finger across the top of some machinery and there was absolutely no dust. The crowning achievement of HMS Warrior are the living history interpreters. What a wonderful job bringing the history of the ship and the lives of its crew to us. My expectations weren't that high but after the visit I was absolutely impressed by the vessel and the people that keep her going. Well done!

(原文) Visited on the 8th of July. HMS Warrior is definitely a well-kept gem - "it's all a big show-off, but it can buy us 15-20 years of peace." The Victorian pride at her finest!! Worth a visit (especially after seeing HMS Victory - I bet Nelson would be very proud of HMS Warrior and the Victorian era.) And Lt Fisher is right about "if we can settle things at the dinner table, we won't need to be firing broadsides out there". Speaking of Lt Fisher - he made our experience on board HMS Warrior gold, and was the main reason why I thought I must write a review to share this with everyone who might come and see the ship. We were told at the entrance that we 'might meet some Victorian characters' but this was 10 times beyond our expectation?? My partner and I just randomly walked into him and he started chatting with us: you wouldn't have imagined this but it turned into a 2h+ conversation during which he shared with us many insights! A very thorough and organic approach and he was so naturally in character ALL THE TIME - as a reenactor I know how much efforts this takes and I cannot compliment Lt Fisher enough for his professionalism!!!! With him we visited a few cabins learning fun facts no brochure would have managed to enlighten us with in a lighthearted manner. It was all informative and very story-rich at the same time! I saw a pinball game and went to ask him what it was; Lt Fisher not only shared with us how middies back in the day bonded over games but also went to fetch a pistol so he could show us (and let us try) how bullets were used in the stead of balls. I cannot find better compliments for HMS Warrior's interactive activities if a simple question can lead to all that elaboration and the opportunity for guests to 'relive' some moments with the youngest members of the Royal Navy. Lt Fisher doesn't feel like some sort of archetype and instead has cool idiosyncrasies, so the character is crafted with elegant literary touches. Btw he was very kind to go fetch his sword and cutlass and musket as well so he could show us how sailors fought - the Navy stuff really don't differ much from our Army stuff but when I saw him fix the cutlass on his musket the way my fellow soldiers in the line would fix their bayonets I was still VERY STUNNED.

It's a lovely building, and it's free to get in, so we'll worth a visit. We visited this time for the Ancient Sudan exhibition in conjunction with the British Museum, which was very small but interesting and educational. We had a potter around the gift shop, and bought several items, including a book, a mug, post cards, books, and a pamphlet about the battle of Southsea in 1874. Because it's free to get in, we didn't feel we had ro see everything in one go, so we went off for lunch and plan to go back for both the art exhibition that's currently on until August 2025 (The Quietness of Feeling) and the Portsmouth Suffrage Banners.

(原文) Fantastic local museum, if you are local and haven't been it's a great idea to check it out - it's free! First thing, it is 100% wheelchair accessible as far as I can see, there is a lift to the upper floors and gently sloping ramps around the exhibits, as well as some onsite parking. Second, this is perfect for kids. Plenty of interactive exhibits, some drawing, some touchy-feely, some video watching there's plenty to do if the kids enjoy a museum environment. As it's Easter there is an Easter hunt going on, with chicks in various exhibits and a maritime themed search for little crochet/knit creatures as well. The ground floor has a Sherlock Holmes/Sir Arthur Conan Doyle exhibit which is thorough while being a little bit dark - I assume to protect the items? The second floor has examples of house interiors (complete with some semi-creepy models of people) as well as history of Portsmouth. Up top there is decorative arts (closed for renovation), football and the 'collections'. While some of the interactive buttons don't work, small kids probably won't mind and there's enough stuff to look at overall. And if it's sunny there's a little outdoor area as well. The cafe is very small, and quite loud however that is to be expected. The shop is well appointed and has a nice variety of goodies if you are so inclined. There is some parking onsite, and some paid parking directly on the road. About 7-10 minute walk away around the Norfolk Street area there is on-street parking 3 hours for free, no return within 4 hours.

(原文) A beautiful building housing an even more beautiful collection. The exhibits range from local history to a fascinating collection dedicated to Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes and it is presented in a way that feels personal rather than overly formal. I especially liked the art gallery section, it was varied, colourful and well curated. Outside the garden is a peaceful retreat perfect for a quick break before heading back inside for more exploring. This is one of those places that quietly earns its strong visitor ratings by offering substance over spectacle, it is calm, welcoming and surprisingly varied.

(原文) Finally I ve been there and it was a nice, smooth, quick and humble experience. If you are a literature person, I do recommend to visit. A 3 storey humble house. The staff in welcome desk gave a nice introduction and welcomed friendly. I liked the photo that Dickens surrounded by his characters.

它只在周四和周日开放 (原文) The museum was interesting to look at. There isn’t much information about his life in Portsmouth as he was only there for the first two years of his life. It mainly had information about his parents, family and his life and career in London/Kent. It is important to note that it does not have much of the Dickens’ families possessions. However, one of the possessions they did have was a couch in which Dickens’ had passed away on according to the museum. This was donated by his sister in law. It’s a three storey house with stairs so this is something to consider if you struggle with stairs. Note: £6.60 for an adult ticket and it’s free for Portsmouth residents! The bus 20 goes from the city centre to the museum. Once you get off the stop, walk through the underpass and you will get onto commercial road. The house is on the right hand side (it’s a White House) and the entrance is down the stairs. It’s only open on Thursday and Sundays

(原文) A hidden gem just behind the A3! We visited on Charles Dickens' birthday, so admission was free, which was nice 😉 This is the house where Dickens was born when his father worked for the Roalyal Navy, and gives you a really good idea of how they lived in a time when poverty and disease were rife in England. They weren't well off, but "respectable," and (as was the norm back then) they had a [lowly-paid] maid to cook and clean for them. The house is beautifully preserved and well worth a visit, if only to travel back in time. You may see actors in period costume or hear members of The Dickens Society reading passages from his books.

(原文) Small in size but rich in atmosphere, this house instantly transports you back to the early 1800s. Every room has been restored with care and the period furniture makes it feel like you are stepping into a scene from Dickens own childhood. I took my time noticing the tiny details, the textures of the wallpaper, the way the light fell across the writing desk. The staff bring the place to life with stories that make the connection between the boy who grew up here and the author he became. It is easy to see why visitors give it high praise on Google, it is not flashy but it is genuine and that is its charm.

The summer assault course was also well loved by our child, reasonable price and can go around as many times as you like. Entrance is free just pay for parking £3.

(原文) Visited the Submarine Museum in Gosport with a Full Dockyard Pass. Drove there—easy route and free parking, which was a plus. If you're already at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, there's a water taxi option, which makes visiting more convenient if you're hopping between sites. HMS Alliance is a rare and fascinating vessel—the last surviving Royal Navy Amphion-class submarine, with Cold War service and a record-breaking dive in her history. For adults interested in naval history, she’s genuinely impressive. Unfortunately, the tour didn’t do her justice. The guides were friendly and helpful, but both said they couldn’t go into much detail, which rather defeated the point. The visit felt rushed and surface-level. Inside the museum, many of the interactive displays weren’t working. We had a young child with us who generally finds museums boring, and the broken exhibits meant there was little to engage him or bring the experience to life. It was a missed opportunity to make the museum more accessible and enjoyable for families. Even with the Dockyard Pass, the ticket price felt steep for what was on offer. The museum has potential, but it needs better upkeep, more engaging interpretation, and a slower, more thoughtful approach to justify the cost—especially for families and history enthusiasts.

It definitely feels like the least loved attraction. The ship is fun to explore but there isn’t much history to learn. No auto guides or anyone really there. There is a video but it’s not as fun learning about the ship sitting in a single metal room rather than actually going around the ship. The top level is interesting but the bottom is certainly not much to talk about. Again, it’s still a joy to see but needs a bit of TLC/modernisation. I suspect most of the money is going to HMS Victory’s renovation. I suppose M.33 isn’t pulling in as much money as the rest. But it’s still worth putting some TLC into it

(原文) HMS M.33 is a rare survivor from World War I. It offers a unique glimpse into maritime warfare. While the history of the Gallipoli Campaign is the main draw, the lesser-known details of life aboard and the ship's engineering; having been designed for rapid production, are equally fascinating aspects. The incredible mechanism on the rear-loading cannon was my favourite part. There's plenty of parking a short walk away at the Historic Dockyard Car Park and even closer (for less) at Wickham Street Car Park. Allow 15-30 minutes for your visit. Pre-purchasing an 'Ultimate Explorer' pass is recommended to save both time and money.

这艘船真是幸运,船员们也同样幸运🐈😻🐈‍⬛ (原文) Very sobering tour when it goes into detail of the ships service throughout the Gallipoli fiasco. Likewise the conditions endured insufferable heat whilst in the Mediterranean and freezing cold serving in Russia comfort was way down the list of priorities, including defence ie they were not designed to fight enemy ships....which is fine as long as no enemy ships find you 😀 Very helpful staff who readily answer a variety of questions, a lucky ship indeed together with a rather lucky ships 🐈😻🐈‍⬛

(原文) Built in the 1930s with art deco notes, Boathouse 4 is now both an education centre and restoration facility for smaller historic ships. It's also the starting place for a number of boat trips and charters of those historic ships, including RAF Rescue Launches, MTGs and the last operating Falklands Campaign Landing Craft. As well as the restoration and education facilities there's also a restaurant and toilets to hand. Whilst, arguerably not as exciting as other parts of the historic dockyard, it's well worth a visit.

(原文) Happy to find this space away from the wind, rain and crazy shops .. main exhibition seems interesting.. I did get a bit lost in the map and how it was set up so ended up reading the intro on the wall [well started too .. soo possibly a reflection of me being a bit scatty/adhd today] then just looked around finding the bits in the guide which seemed to fit was in front of me. I happily read the rest of the guide over a cuppa and cake with the enthusiasm of small people in the background The community exhibition of users with dementia was an interesting mix too Thank you reception for the directions and cafe for lovely service and space!

It is really minimal and the staff are superb. I went there for the art display , it was a tiny space but with fabulous art.

Eastney Engine Houses
(原文) Wonderful little museum. If you are interested in history, especially Victorian history, then this is a great place to visit. The buildings date from the 1860s. The staff are very knowledgeable and we were even shown around the gas works next door by a former employee on the site. He turned on the pumps so we could watch them working and made the experience very enjoyable! Considering they only ask for donations - it’s free to go in, it’s definitely worth a visit!

If you are a fan of engineering or old beautiful things with a fascinating history then pay this place a visit. It's free and the clearly passionate volunteers are very knowledgeable and super friendly. I actually think this place is under used and would make a great venue for corporate events etc. Would be good if more things were working and they had a cafe

(原文) As we live in nearby Farlington, we thought it was well-worth the short trip, and it was. It doesn't take long to walk round so don't expect to spends hours here. It's also (generally) only open one weekend a month. We coupled our visit with gas-powered, pumping station, which was open at the same time, and is practically next door.
