I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at the Aspen Art Museum was surprisingly unpleasant. The front desk staff came across as openly unhappy to be there — curt, unwelcoming, and giving off the strong impression they’d rather be anywhere else. The Art Meuseum is a must visit spot in Aspen. It is free to visit and has some very interesting architecture. The view from the rooftop is nice and you can also grab a bite to eat in the Cafe. The exhibit was Andy Warhol originals which was cool to see those in person. I only deducted a star because I am not a major fan of this type of art and this was the only exhibit at a time. But if you are in the area then this is worth a visit. ( I do not own any rights to the artwork but we did ask permission to photograph, these works can easily be found online, enjoy!)

This has to be one of the coolest historic performing arts venues in the country. We saw Legend Has It here hosted by Teton Gravity Research, I also plan on coming back for Warren Miller Films and to see Dance Aspen perform. Their programming is awesome, and the building itself is beautifully restored and every single detail is so pristine. I look forward to attending more shows here in the future, its a really intimate venue.
Pro tip: come early before the show if you want to hit the bar before your show, and also the balcony tends to fill up faster than the lower levels. Open seating, no assigned seats here.

Honestly, this is a small museum. However, everything is lovingly cared for and it shows. I Walked from Aspen, since the flier only mentioned onsite ADA parking, but there is actually plenty of non-ada parking onsite. Plenty of free parking. A local warned me that there was no bathroom onsite, but actually there are two new bathrooms! I posted a picture of current rates and a phone number to set up entry. And though I have been to bigger mining museums, this one has the rare distinction of having old equipment in working order. Watching one of the volunteers start old mining equipment is a rare treat

Stopped by with the family on the first Saturday of the month (free!) and had a great tour thanks to the knowledgeable staff. The intern, Dominic, in particular held our attention and showed a clear grasp of and interest in the material. You hear a lot about checked-out zoomers—he was no such youth. Always a fun time, and even though I was born and raised in Aspen, and lived here for 34 years, I always learn many new things. Their exhibits are well-thought out, timely, and interesting. The staff is absolutely stellar! Recommend to anyone wanting to go a little deeper into the Aspen story than just skiing or cruising downtown. They also do amazing tours in town! I don't often do museums. We went on Friday Oct. 15, 2021. Had the extreme pleasure of meeting Mrs.Click at the front desk. After an excellent introduction instruction on how best to enjoy the exhibits, she sent us up to enjoy the many offerings of historical Aspen. We have never been to Aspen so it was very interesting. Then when we made our way back to the first floor, she took the time to give us in depth informatioin that we did not see upstairs. Her interest and knowlege were evident. She truly made the visit memorable.

Every museum deserves a guide like Suzie, she was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable and has officially ruined future tours for me coz I'd be hard pressed to find a guide who can live up to her standard.
The museum itself was gorgeous, has a restroom, you can touch a surprising amount of stuff (and sit on the chairs (!)). I'd budget at least an hour to check it out. At $10, well worth it.

The Baldwin Gallery is a surprising large gallery with an upstairs and and downstairs. They tend to show the larger works most likely destined for a suitably sized home. Some of the art appealed to me and other works not so much. It is a fun browse and the gallery lets you walk around unfettered. The pricing is consistent with the pricing of the homes so this is not a place to obtain your trinket from your Aspen visit. However, if you are looking for upscale real art, this is one venue.

The Aspen Institute / Aspen Meadows Resort is an iconic part of Aspen Colorado. With it's rich history and beautifully manicured landscape, it offers a scenic piece of historic real estate. Just recently, The Aspen Institute with the help of numerous others, installed Herbert Bayer's ANACONDA marble sculpture. We were proud to be hand selected as the outside vendor charged with the task of this 2 week installation operation. This well-established music venue is a great part of Aspen's tradition. People attend the many Fine Arts events here on a regular basis, all summer. I had the most fabulous Aspen 4th of July mainly because of the Aspen Music Festival and School! Their free concert in the Benedict Music Tent was amazing and really made my 4th of July extra special. Spectators picniced on the grass with their wine and cheese. So cute!! And to top it all off I happened to stay at the Aspen Meadows Resort which is on the very same property just minutes away from the tent. The hotel rooms are super spacious with gorgeous views and due to the holiday being mid week I got a great deal! Check out the concert schedule and if you need a place to stay, I highly recommend the Aspen Meadows.

I have loved musical theater since my father drove the family from Chicago to New York City in 1966 to see Gwen Verdon in Sweet Charity on Broadway.
So when I saw Theatre Aspen was doing Guys and Dolls as part of its summer musical season, I had to go.
The production was as good as any community theater show. But the setting. OMG. The theater is on the edge of the John Denver Sanctuary on the banks of the Roaring Fork River. The aspens and pines soar over the patio. Mother Nature at her most dramatic!
Often the company brings in national talent. Last month I saw Len Cariou in "Tuesdays with Morrie." The house only has 199 seats so everyone is up close. I could see every facial emotion on this amazing actor's face. Can't do that in a big theater.
Currently the theater is an unheated tent. In the old days the staff handed out blankets in the fall chill. (no more.) Last year the theater proposed to build a permanent structure on the site. Will it lose it's charm?
The covered vestibule often serves as a stage for FREE high school productions.
There is a concession stand for comestibles.
The bathrooms are around the corner in Rio Grande Park. They are really kewl because everything is environmentally conscious. Check out the sinks!
The theater itself is a five minute walk from the street. The staff has a cart and will transport you if you don't want to go on foot.
Aspen is allergic to street lights, so bring a flashlight if you want to walk home.

I went on the mid-century modern weekly walking tour hosted by the Aspen Historical Society twice this summer (one time with a past client), and both times they covered fantastic material. It was educational, it was funny, it was nice to walk around the West End in the Summer. If you haven’t been on this tour, it meets at the red brick center for the arts every Wednesday morning (I want to say at 10:30 AM) and you need to book tickets in advance. But it’s totally worth it! Thank you for continuing to discuss the legacy of modernist and Victorian architecture in Aspen, it is so important to keep this history and these structures for future generations.

We took a Victorian Walking Your of the West End. It was fabulous. Our tour guide was Alexander and he was great. The Aspen Historical Society always has the most amazing tours and this one did not disappoint. It was so fun to walk the West End and learn the history of the Victorian houses, and why Aspen has protected them so fiercely. This is a cool historical building. Currently it is home to the Aspen Historical Society and it's museum. The museum changes once in a while and is always very interesting. The museum is very small but always worth visiting. The museum is free and has a few bits of merchandise to purchase. The house the museum is in is not much different from when it was first built. There is a building behind the home that houses the archives of the Aspen Historical Society which is open to research if you contact beforehand and is not drop in archives. Truly one of a kind, must see venue. If you are a big time music lover then Belly Up must be on your list. (On a side note : beware of 20 something year old locals with very poor morals!) Very small intimate venue with a great view from everywhere in the house. The staff here is absolutely top notch in every way. Layout is extremely convenient to get around, and parking was easy to find near by. If you want to be close to the stage or get one of the few(non-reserved) seats then you better get there right when doors open. Doors opened at 9, show was at 10, Illenium came on at 11 and played unitl 12:30. As long as you get there in the first hour its not tough to get in at all. The acoustics were great and if your close to the stage you get whipped in the face with the bass at times. Will absolutely be back in the future and put it at the top of my list for favorite venues of all time. Well worth it! To have only seen Illenium at sold out Red Rocks shows or festivals of 25,000+ crowds before this . . . To see him up close in a crowd of only 400 people, It's hard to put into words how incredible it was. What this unmatched venue does, bringing A-list acts to such an intimate setting for deep fans is such a one of a kind thing. I seriously can't wait until my next show here, one if the best days ever!

We have skied and hiked Ajax, Snowmass, and the Highlands a number of times. Other than eating at the BBQ place at the base of Buttermilk, we have never skied this mountain before until today. As expert level skiers, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked this mountain. An interesting exhibit on the life works of Herbert Bayer. Current exhibit is primarily on his work on the CCA Atlas. Extraordinary, magnificent, and at the same time deeply personal - the new construction and opening of the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies! As a local, I found this Center to be a true gem. At a local level it reflects the roots and history of Aspen, and at an international level it honors the vast works of Bayer and his critical place in art history. I can't wait to re-visit multiple times. The brilliant architectural design of the building, its peaceful and historic location, and its easy accessibility to the public all complement the extraordinary pieces housed within. I recommend this to all who visit Aspen.

The RCHBS website made it easy to sign up for this free tour given Tuesdays or Thursdays at 12:30pm. Our group of 6 was greeted warmly as we were signed in before the 1+hour tour. Lissa Ballinger passionately shared the life of Herbert Bayer, including all those in his life & career. She brought it all home to Aspen as we learned how his life is woven into the historic past (and future) of Aspen. His advertising ads, artwork, and historical (and political) articles adorn the walls chronologically.As the tour concluded, we were encouraged to come back again....and we will! A gem not to miss!

The museum was fantastic, and the staff members were incredibly friendly. They gave us a brief introduction to the exhibitions on display.
