Kandy Lake is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Right in the heart of the city, it offers a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle. The path around the lake is flat and easy to walk—about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace—making it a great way to soak in some nature without much effort.
One of the most fascinating things about the lake is how much wildlife you can spot. We saw monkeys swinging through the trees, huge water monitors (honestly, some of the biggest I’ve ever seen—even bigger than the ones in Thailand!), and all kinds of birds. We spotted pelicans, kingfishers, herons, and this time of year (June), there were tons of baby birds in nests—so sweet to see.
One heads-up though: there are large bats (flying foxes) hanging in the trees around the lake. They’re impressive to see, but fair warning—they do poop, and it might land on you if you’re not paying attention, so maybe don’t linger directly under the trees too long!
The lake itself was created in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last king of Sri Lanka, and it’s still a central part of life in Kandy. Right next to it is the famous Temple of the Tooth, so it’s easy to combine the walk with a visit to one of the country’s most important cultural sites.
Overall, Kandy Lake is a great spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy Sri Lanka’s rich mix of nature and history. Just keep an eye on the sky!

Visited the Tea Museum on a quiet morning. Was given a great explanation of the history of the museum and then left to explore on my own.
It was low season and there were only two other people there. The museum tells the story of the tea manufacturing industry in a building which housed the factory 100 years ago; it was humble presentation of history and a nice stop away from the bustling centre of Kandy.
Ticket price is 1000 Rupees which also gives you a free cup of tea on the top floor, and 10% off any purchases in the shop. Well worth a visit to explore the history of Ceylon Tea.

Not a great experience for us.
It's an old tea factory now restored as a museum. They have all the machines that is being used to make a tea donated by different tea states of Sri Lanka.
Location is nearby from the centre, situated on the top of the hill from where you can have an amazing view of tea garden.
Entrance fee is 1000 Rs which include group guided tour and a complementary tea at the restaurant.
The lady ( in 40s) which was assigned to us for the guidance had absolutely no knowledge about tea or how the process works and why do you go through the process. It seemed she was reading the script to us. We asked her few questions about didn't get any answer.
At the restaurant you can order a THALI TEA for RS1000 which comes with 7 different types of tea.
Overall you can spend 2-3 hours if you have time

A great spot above Kandy offering beautiful panoramic views of the city — especially stunning at sunset or after dark. There are a few souvenir sellers around, but they’re not too pushy if you politely decline. During our visit, it wasn’t too crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. My wife, Shirleen, our child, and I recently visited the famous Kandy View Point—also known as Arthur’s Seat—just a short hike from the Temple of the Tooth. Perched 550 m above the city, it offers sweeping views over Kandy Lake, the Temple of the Tooth Relic, the Royal Palace, and the surrounding hills.
The panorama was breathtaking. We arrived mid‑afternoon, but locals and fellow tourists recommend early morning or late afternoon for the best light and cooler temperatures . As we soaked in the view, birds chirped, monkeys swung through the trees, and a gentle breeze kept us refreshed. The platform is not that much spacious but well‑laid out—perfect for family photos.

Scattered near the viewpoint are small vendors selling souvenirs and snacks. While culturally intriguing, they tend to price their items quite high—many charging several times more than city shops. We politely declined their offers, choosing instead to enjoy the view and capture memories with our camera.

It is a beautiful rainforest just behind the Temple of Tooth, though the entrance is a little far away. I was amazed that there is such a beautiful and thick forest in the heart of such a city. You have to buy a ticket to go in which is just LKR 75 for the residents of Sri Lanka. There are beautiful paths through the forest and they are just beautiful. Usually there are not many visitors and so you can get a very peaceful nature walk listening only to the sounds of nature. Sometimes I found some monkeys asking the way and so I carried a stick with me. Once I also spotted a few deers. If you go after a rain, you'll find leeches crawling up to you. 930 LKR entry fee. You wouldn’t believe this place is in the busy Kandy centre. It’s so peaceful walking no around surrounded by nature. We saw turtles, pigs(!!!) and monkeys. The view of Kandy is lovely. You could spend hours here strolling around. We were there for about 1.5 hours and still didn’t walk around it all but we were taking photos and walking slow lol. 10/10 recommend this place.

The place is quite big so we did one trail and it was lovely. We heard lots of birds and saw monkeys. The path is easy to walk on and the staff were nice.
It would have helped to have more signage because we weren't sure where to go at some points. So, take a picture of the big map at the entrance for support.
When you get to the caves, don't go any further along the path outside it because there are dogs on that side and we were chased by them. I'm posting a picture of that area (The caves are on the right). Management needs to make it clearer that we shouldn't be going that way with signs.
There is no picnic spot inside the park, so we ate outside it. There's lots of monkeys so probably a good idea not to picnic inside the park anyway.
Overall, it was really nice and relaxing. I wish we had had more time to cover more ground.

The room and especially the bathroom and the floor were very dirty. We had to clean the toilet by ourselves because it was disgusting. We had 2 rooms and our friend couldn’t really sleep because there were so many insects next to his bed. The view is very nice but the homestay is pretty far from the center and it’s a very steep road that gets there so even some Tuktuk drivers didn’t want to go there, it was too steep for them. Also at night it was pretty difficult to find a Tuktuk that goes there. The breakfast was okay good.
In the morning our water wasn’t running, so we had to use the bathroom of another room which was also very dirty, so we cleaned the toilet again. It was really gross. The lady was friendly though and the communication via WhatsApp beforehand was great, too. Oh and the mobile data worked good for remote working, the WiFi didn’t really work.
I really don’t like writing this review at all because it doesn’t feel good to write a bad review. But I can’t give this homestay a better review because of its lack of cleanliness.

Very sweet little place in the hill overlooking the City. This is Family run, there is one room for hosting guests. Large, Clean room. Food can be ordered additionally.
In the evening you can sit on the balcony and watch as thousands of flying foxes fly over the City and Monkeys live in the trees around.
The Hosts are sweet and super friendly and welcome you with an open heart and a fresh Welcome Drink!
The City is a 10-15 min walk downhill on little roads before you Hit the busy and loud Center.
