The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and include not only visuals but optional audio for everything you are viewing. I only had the chance to see about 1/4 of all they have in my quick 2 hour visit so I’d recommend planing a few hours to come here and experience it all. The gift shop had such a fun variety of unique items, I came away with jewelry made from piano strings that I love! And on top of it all, this museum was truly inclusive for folks who need special accessibility accommodations. I recently injured my foot putting me on crutches. The staff kindly offered my choice of a wheelchair or electric scooter at no charge to use while in the museum. I can’t wait for the day I can come back to experience more!!

I knew I'd have a good time because I was with several friends. It also counts as an Arizona 250 site. I hadn't been here since a kid. It's very interesting for those who appreciaye archeological sites. The docent gave an interesting and informative talk. I appreciated the quiet and gentle walk thru and on top of the ruins. It gives you a better understanding of the size and depths of the structures. I would recommend visiting in the mornings, as it still gets warm even during the Fall. This museum is located in the heart of the city, so it's really a juxtaposition of the old amongst the new. We used to come to just the amusement park all the time and that part looked pretty run down. We went to buy tickets for the Winter Wonderland part and we’re very disappointed were told that even though as her parents we wouldn’t be participating in the snow slide or bouncy castles we still had to pay for a full price ticket. They made you take the train around to get in which just took us in a big circle and when that wasn’t necessary. They told us she would be able to do the slide for 15min or 20min. Even on the unlimited you only got a few minutes before being kicked out of that area and would have to go all the way out and take the train again to play on that again. We chose to get the 1 time pass instead however I timed it from the time we got off the train to the time that they told us we had to leave that area and it was exactly 6min 32sec. That gave my daughter time to only slide 2 times and there was about 20 people on the train we took. If there were anymore we may have only gotten her on 1 time. No where near 15 which we told was the minimum time. We could go to the bounce area and play for as long as we wanted however there are no bathrooms for portapotties in the fenced off area. You have to leave to go and if you don’t have an unlimited pass they would not let us back in if we left to use it. And the unlimited passes would have to take the train to get back in. Even if you have an older kid they would not allow them to go in by themselves selves. It was basically a way to get a lot of money and provide very little. If they are going to make everyone pay then you would think that they would also have something that you could do/play with your kids and at the very least restrooms or access to one without having to leave. One things for sure we will not be going back and I suggest you don’t either. I have included pics so you can see how small the snow slide is. The workers also had their family there and their kids who were “helping” and able to play and slide as much as they wanted. They were rude at the ticket counter and lied about the time you would get to get your money. That’s all they cared about. This the season. So sad.

Urban legends about the place are in abundance. The friendly and very knowledgeable docents are quite eager to set records straight and are very open to questions! The first part of tour is a tram ride through the grounds. They have planted an amazing array of cacti and succulents from all over the world. The white river rocks just gleam in the sunlight! The castle itself is smaller than one initially expects it to be. However, at sunset when the lights are turned on, she is a real beauty. The interior is sparse but much of the original Art Deco design remains. Only the first floor and basement are open to visitors and you are required to wear special booties in order to protect the original flooring. The plateau where the castle is built is a great place to view the skylines for both downtown Phoenix and Tempe. There is a small gift shop with restroom facilities. Lots of parking. From there, you walk outside. If you go to one side, they have a small shaded picnic table and the Spanish mission with murals. Get there about 30 minutes before full sunset. Once your there be quiet and watch as thousands of bats come out to eat. After you can also watch the feasting above the canal as they look for bugs.
