Was in PHX for a conference and could see this place from my hotel room. So got up a 4:30 am and took a scheduled Uber (15-20 minute ride from the Sheraton/downtown) to hike during sunrise.
- I hike a lot, but this is pretty rugged. Took me an hour to get to the top at a moderate pace.
- about halfway up, there are several spots that require all four limbs. A non-technical climb of sorts. No climbing gear needed though. It’s doable but you’ve got to be adventurous.
- I took the Cholla trail, which I understand to be the easier of the two trails (but not “easy”)
- look for blue hash marks mark the trail all the way up — especially around the climbing parts
- coming down is slow too. Plan for time. Less physical effort but got to be careful about foot placement. Some rocks are slippery. I suggest keeping three points of contact at all time.
- a dozen or so people on the trail too when I went; so very public; everyone was friendly and polite.
- I was worried about sticking my hand in a rock and getting a snake bite, but it’s so highly used, I’d bet they stay away. Wasn’t an issue.
- it was cool and windy mid-May. Maybe 60 degrees; but the day before a colleague of mine did it at the same time of day and it was hot. So plan for both. Best to have a sweatshirt in a back pack.
- bring ample water; I drank 60 ounces of fluid on this trek; bananas are a good idea too. My colleague said someone put a box of them out for hikers when she went; none when I was there.

Parking is free and the lot is an average size but it does stay busy, I arrived around 8 am on a Saturday and had to wait for the earlier hikers to leave. The hike it self was a bit strenuous for me (average hiker/moderately fit). It’s probably best to wear proper shoes, lots of climbing and steep slopes. Breath taking views at the end and beautiful scenery on the trail. I would highly suggest bringing water on your first go at it, overall great experience for me!

We hiked the Kiwanis Loop Trail. Its an easy to moderate trail. The first 1.5 miles were the easiest. There's a lookout tower at the 1.5 mile mark. You can see most of the valleys on both sides of South Mountain. This hike would be great for families. Take lots of water and start early in the morning.

One of my favorite local cycling climbs. The new parking area and covered lookouts at the TV towers are great after making the final ascent. San Juan is an awesome add on for more miles and some easier climbs after the towers. Park ranger staff are excellent and always there to help.

Amazing hike!!! Hiked up for the sunset. Was impressed with how many people were on the trail already it was very cool.
Everyone was nice and respectful. Minimal trash. No bathroom on trail but are some at parking lot.
Not a lot of room for any trailers. Cars fit fine once people begin showing up though spots disappear quickly.
Overall the trail isn’t bad just a lot of elevation and some big steps. The very top could be challenging for some I think most should be ok.

The best hike in the Phoenix Mountain Preserves area. And probably the busiest. A lot of people do this trail for the exercise. I do it for the beauty. Mother nature. The animals, rocks, cacti, fresh air, the smell of outdoors, and for the exercise.
The most popular trail is the one that goes up to the top, which is great. The view from the top is incredible. But the Perimeter trail, which goes around Piestewa Peak is another great trail. A little longer, and very scenic. A really really nice trail. (See the photos)
And from the Perimeter trail you can easily take a number of other trail and go to different areas of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves. LOTS of trails. But be careful, it's easy to get lost. Even though you can't really get lost lost. You're in the middle of the city. Any direction you go will take you to civilization.

I hiked from the Piestewa trailhead walking 302 Circumference /
Freedom trail. Sunny and about 69 degrees with wind. The trail is a little rough with quite a bit of elevation changes especially at the beginning. It's a great hike in the city but there are long stretches where it's seems you're in a far off desert hiking remote trails.

Great hike. It can be a little difficult if you're not used to climbing stairs non-stop for an hour. However, if you pace yourself, you'll do just fine. It's 100% worth it, as it is absolutely gorgeous.
The sun does beat down on you for the majority of the hike, so make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and water, and try to get out before sunrise.
The trail is a little crowded at times, it's still very easy to enjoy the quiet and the views. There will be people trail running, sightseeing and the ones that climb there daily.

I absolutely love hiking the Phoenix mountain preserve!! I come here every weekend with my dog for a sunrise hike and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I park at the quartz trail head right off 32nd street and Lincoln, it’s a small parking lot so be sure to get there early if you want a spot! I’ve done the Mohave connector trail as well as the quartz trail and both are pretty beginner friendly. They both have a little bit of an incline but in total it’s only about 2-3 miles. It’s a fun little hike to shoot up and down then be on with your day!!

Phoenix Mountain Preserves gets a full five stars. This place is loaded with trails, views, and enough space to make you forget you are right in the middle of a city. Most people seem to laser focus on hiking Piestewa, which is a solid hike, sure, if you are into climbing a mountain while being herded like cattle. It is a good workout, but you are definitely not getting solitude up there.
The rest of the park though? That is where the magic is. Tons of trails that wind through beautiful desert scenery. You can hike, bike, run, walk your dog, or just wander around pretending you are one with nature. Whatever your thing is, this place has room for it.
Just stay on the trail. Trust me. I went off trail not too long ago and had a close encounter with a western diamondback that definitely did not want to be friends. You are in their turf, so keep your eyes open and your steps careful.
Whether you want a tough climb or just a peaceful walk with views, Phoenix Mountain Preserves has it. Solid spot to recharge, sweat a little, and remind yourself that Arizona is not just freeways and chain restaurants.

If you are in North Phoenix, this is right there. And chances are you've driven past it many times. It's a really nice little sanctuary away from the city. The hike is pretty easy, and there are lots of little peaks you can hit. You can probably get to the top in about 45 minutes to an hour, and you can go Peak to Peak so you could spend several hours out here, especially on a nice winter day! Would definitely recommend getting out here!

A great place to hike. LOTS of trails. I've actually temporarily gotten lost. But all you have to do is keep going, and you'll find your way. After all you're right in the middle of the city. Freeway to the west and to the north. So you can't really get lost.

They did a huge renovation a few years ago. They put in flat pavement so you can walk, and bike. There's hiking trails in the mountains, i haven't tried that yet but I see people on the trails. Not a lot of shade on these hikes, bring lots of water. Before you start the hike, they have bathrooms, water fountains, and trash cans. I love taking my dogs on walks over here. Loved this place. There are several pavilions with bbq grills, nice bathrooms and a water fountain. There is a map of the area, but there are way more trails than on the map so use a trail app. I took Holly's Loop according to AllTrails app. I very much enjoyed it. A few rocky spots. I'm afraid of heights and a couple spots were bit scary, but i got through them. I'm a slow hiker who likes to stop and look and i really enjoyed the hike.

The sky was awash with clouds and we were looking for a place to see sunset far from the miles of concrete and freeways. The parking lot of the Desert Vista trailhead leading up into the Sonoran preserve, with a Vista downhill to the setting son was perfect. We saw a handful of people parking or already on the trail leading uphill on their way to see the sunset from a higher vantage.
We found our spot in the chaparral, taking in the changing light of a magnificent 360 sunset over the next hour.

Sonoran Preserve is basically Disneyland for dirt lovers. Massive parking lot, which is a blessing because apparently the entire city of Phoenix had the same idea as you. But don’t worry, once you’re a mile in, it’s just you, the lizards, and your questionable life choices.
The trail system? Stupid good. You can chain together loops like you're playing some kind of outdoor Choose Your Own Adventure, except instead of dragons and treasure, it's dehydration and glute cramps. Trails are well maintained, clearly marked, and full of opportunities to feel way more athletic than you actually are.
Tons of peaks to climb if you're into pain and snacks with a view. I highly recommend hauling your ass up one, pretending you're the main character in a wilderness movie, then immediately sitting down to eat like it’s your reward for surviving a slight incline.
Hike it, run it, bike it, whatever your flavor of suffering is, this place delivers. Five stars. Come early, bring water, and don’t trust the breeze. It’s lying.

Easy to medium trails. Amazing view of the city from top (Dixie summit). There are lots of loops, so better follow trail tracks and signage. One can use Google maps to track the trails and circle back to origin. The place has ample car parking, rest rooms and drinking water fountain facility. Its free and not much crowd. Drive up is windy and twisting, but you’re headed to the top of a mountain! Once at the top, there are several options for other turnouts and view points. Choose a road and follow it for another few miles! We saw dust devils, the view of downtown PHX, and there weren’t many people either, making it extra nice.
The spot is a few steps away from where you park, and most people can access it, as we saw elderly folks making their way to it too.
Lots of wildlife along the way, and we were lucky to see cactus fruit blooming everywhere, keeping the birds very busy. Plus incredible vegetation to appreciate in the wild.

Easy and beautiful hair pin and switch back drive up South Mountain to an amazing panoramic views at the top of the city of Phoenix, valley and mountains. The drive may take 30 minutes. I would definitely stop at the welcome center before heading up here. They’re very friendly and very helpful. There was no cost to enter or to park. There are local vendors that sell souvenirs when you get to the top and bathrooms. I was so happy that a local told me about this place. It was a short drive from the Phoenix area.

I've been up here a few times and the view never gets old. The drive is not long, very scenic, and an easy drive. I haven't been up here for the sunset yet but I'll be sure to get here early to get a parking spot. There are a couple other lookouts not far from this one. All are worth checking out. I also spent time in the visitors center near the park entrance. They have some very interesting displays. I loved the interactive map the in the middle of the center that lets you select a trail amd the it lights up to show you where its located in the park. Very cool!

That side trek almost killed me for a second time lol..I personally did this hike with someone else a year ago made it to where the pavement began. At first I was skeptical about this trail. I came alone, and not in the best shape of my life. But it looked worth it. After seeing that the difficulty of the trail was extremely difficult I was hesitant. I didn't know what to expect. I saw children, people of all ages and body sizes, and a pregnant woman who made it to the summit. Its rigorous but dooable. Camelback used to be my favorite within close distance , but after today, this takes the top spot. It’s a great hike for the whole family or just on your own. If you’re planning to hike to the peak (Piestewa Summit) and add the loop (Freedom Trail), it’s a solid option, but be prepared—it adds about 3 extra hours.

Decent hard hike. If your consistent with minimal breaks, you can go up to the top in about an hour. There is not much rock climbing involved compared to Camelback Mountain, but there will be some rock climbing towards the end.
Nothing insane though once you get to the top there is beautiful views of the mountain. I hiked this mountain in the afternoon and saw the sunset and the city lights. It is worth it every time this hike is not as hard as Camelback mountain however

Great hike with a lot to see. There are a lot of loose rocks, nothing terrible. Go early because sunrise is incredible. Bring water and sunscreen, as the sun beats down on you the majority of the hike. It's a somewhat crowded trail, not so bad that you don't enjoy it. It was pretty easy for me, but objectively the difficulty is at least moderate - it’s rocky and uphill the whole way. There was plenty of shade before sunset and lots of parking, so I’d recommend starting the hike no later than 1 to 1.5 hours before sunset if you want to catch it. Headlamps were really helpful. Having visited several Japanese gardens across the country, I can say that the Phoenix Friendship Garden may not be the largest or most beautiful, but it stands out as the most unique. It offers a remarkable oasis in a desert climate, impressively well-maintained despite Phoenix’s 100+ days of over 100°F temperatures each summer.
I’m admittedly partial to this garden, having lived in downtown Phoenix for over two years. During that time, we took full advantage of two years of annual passes. If you live near the garden, I highly recommend getting an annual pass, which grants unlimited entry and reciprocal benefits or reduced fees at many other nature attractions nationwide, including the Desert Botanical Garden.
Another highlight of the garden is its diverse array of events throughout the year, which celebrate Japanese culture. Over the years, I’ve attended Ikebana exhibitions, tea festivals, sake tastings, moon viewing (Otsukimi), taiko drum performances, and, most recently, a shamisen concert featuring the traditional three-stringed instrument.
I’ve been fortunate to visit the garden across different seasons and times of day, and I hope the photos I’m including with this review capture the charm of this remarkable little garden, located just on the outskirts of downtown Phoenix.

This is an excellent small museum with very interesting trails, featuring petroglyphs from hundreds to thousands of years ago made by the original Arizonan tribes. The information about this site is very well presented in both the museum and on the trails. We love to walk our dogs here but avoid going here now. I’m sure this will be a commercial for the place for certain men but the awareness needs to be shared.
The dogs love taking the small trails through the trees that cat from the main trail to the center area with mounds of dirt the kids ride their bikes on.
On multiple occasions we have encountered men in the brush areas engaging in activity that should be looked down upon. One of my dogs almost picked up a jimmy from 2 we scared off as we stumbled upon an inappropriate act. We’ve seen others out in the open in the deep washes. All and all we’ve seen at least a dozen in the last 2 months. Guys trolling around looking for interaction. My wife used to go solo but won’t after calling the cops twice and feels nothing will be done. It’s gross what’s going on there. I’m sure this review will bring more instead of fixing anything. Disgusting. I’ve kept the language vague and respectful online. That’s not how I would say it out loud. If we do go back and see it we are taking pics of these people and posting.

Wonderful zoo! Not too large so that you can walk the whole zoo of you want to get the full view of you don't spend too much time at one exhibit. Lots of shade along the way, plenty of water fountains available. They have planned for the comfort of the visitors. My photos certainly don't show the extent and great variety of the place...monkeys, orangutan, dromedaries, beautiful birds, nice splash pad for kids, individual displays of the local desert inhabitants, so much more. It is a good size and very accessible with adult scooters, kid and adult animal themed scooters, and stroller rentals. The zoo membership was worth it since it pays for itself in about 2 visits. The cafe is decent and if you come on less busy days or less peak hours, it is really peaceful and serene with lots of areas to sit. The animal variety is pretty good for being in the desert and it even has a Siberian Amur tiger, one of the most expensive zoo animals and endangered big cats, that not even the San Diego Zoo has.

Had a great time at the Phoenix Zoo! The animals seem well taken care of. Enclosures are fairly large and well kept. There are animal ambassadors at most of the areas that are very informative and knowledgeable. They were able to answer all our questions and some were quite funny. They have the only open walk through attraction with squirrel monkeys in the United States, which is in my opinion a must see for any visitor to the zoo. Also you can feed giraffes, ride a camel or play in the water park. Their is something for everyone. Overall my experience was enjoyable and I recommend if your are in Phoenix to add a stop at the zoo!

We had a wonderful time at the Phoenix Zoo! The grounds were clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. For being in the desert, there was plenty of shade, which made walking around very comfortable even on a warm day. We had an absolutely phenomenal day at the Phoenix Zoo, and I can't recommend it enough as a perfect way for kids to spend a couple of hours walking around and getting up close with wildlife.
Our visit today was exceptional because the animals were incredibly active! Sometimes you walk past exhibits and the animals are sleeping, but not today. We saw so much lively action:
• Monkey Business: The monkeys were putting on quite a show, swinging and playing all over their habitat. It was non-stop entertainment!
• A Spiky Surprise: one porcupine was wide awake and busy, which was a real treat to see. Hehe did a little of dance for us, and it will be a memorable porcupine dance experience for us to keep in our family.
Beyond the great animal viewing, we loved that there were a couple of animal encounters happening, which added an extra layer of engagement for the little ones. We also took the carousel ride, camel ride and stingray feeding.
It truly was an awesome day at the zoo. For families looking to make a whole outing of it, the Phoenix Zoo is great. We were smart and brought our lunch, which made the midday break easy and relaxing. And of course, on a warm day, the splash pad was the perfect grand finale to cool off and burn the last bit of energy before heading home.
If you're looking for an engaging, manageable, and exciting outdoor activity for your kids, the Phoenix Zoo is a winner. Especially if you catch the animals on an active day like we did, it's a memorable experience!

The outdoor playground is huge and recently got sun sails so it mostly shaded.

Great place in downtown Phoenix for events! We had a box for the James Taylor concert and the food was great, the service and staff were great and the box was clean and well kept. The main bar in the center on first floor was packed, but quick with orders. I grew up in Phoenix and having watched it grow the last 40+ years has been awesome. When we came to downtown events growing up, no one would stay after dark. It was definitely a bit scary. People did not hang out there. I am so impressed with the growth and amenities Phoenix has added to the downtown space and my clients that live up and down midtown uptown downtown are all pretty happy as well!

This is one of my favorite places to go. From watching the Suns and Mercury play, or a great boxing matches, also some of the best musicians and artist that have come through. I recently went to the Mortgage Matchup Center for the Maná concert, and wow — what an incredible experience! The venue was electric from start to finish. The sound quality was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect for a rock show. You could feel the energy from the crowd the moment the band hit the stage.
The drinks were really good — definitely on the pricey side, but strong, well-mixed, and worth it for a great night out. The bar service was quick even with the big crowd, which was a nice surprise.
I can’t say much about the food since I didn’t have any, but everything else about the night made it an awesome experience overall. If you get the chance to catch a concert here, especially a big-name band like Mañá, do it — it is worth it.

I just experienced one of the best concerts I have been too - Linkin Park - in the Footprint PHX arena. We were very close to the action - stage level. This arena was more intimate than the other stadiums in Phoenix which made it perfect for getting to enjoy the band up close and personal. The seats were very comfortable, the whole arena and bathrooms were very clean. An attendant stayed in the bathroom to clean up thru the whole night during the 4.5 hrs for the concert. It was impressive how well they kept the place up.

This is such a fun place to go. Especially during the pandemic. Being stuck in our homes for so long it's a nice place to go and get some excersie. Today was a perfect day to go walking. There were a ton of people riding bikes. Lots of families there with canopy's and having picnics. I love that you are able to rent scooters, the family peddle carts. Echo Canyon gets four stars from me, but only because of the crowd factor. The hike itself is awesome. I have reviewed it before and surprise, nothing has changed. Still beautiful. Still packed. It is like Camelback is the only trail people in Phoenix have heard of, so naturally the entire city decides to show up at once. If you are trying to get some peace and quiet, this is not the spot unless you show up early.
Now, if you hit it before sunrise, it is a five star experience all the way. There is nothing like making it to the top, catching that first light over the valley, and smashing some summit snacks while watching the city wake up. But once 7am hits, the trail starts feeling like rush hour in hiking boots. Four stars if you go early, three if you are showing up late and trying to dodge selfie sticks the whole way up.
The hike itself is moderate but can get tough if you are not prepared. Bring water. Take breaks. Do not underestimate the climb or overestimate your cardio. You are not going to impress anyone if you push too hard and have to be carried out. If you are not feeling it, turn around and come back another day. The mountain is not going anywhere.
Still a solid hike with killer views, just go in knowing you are not going to be alone. Or silent. Or probably very patient.

The park and trail were in great condition. Clean, easy to navigate, busy but not overcrowded. Quality grip boots would be ideal and it's all pretty steep and there is a bunch of boulder climbing, rock scrambling, loose rocks and shimmying to let someone pass if they're moving faster than you and vice versa. I really enjoyed this hike on the way up and on the way down. The views were gorgeous and watching the raptors fly above and around you, as well as catching a few honey bees to observe on the wildflowers, was truly magnificent.

I had Granddaughter time recently and after a few spins around Chandler Mall, I decided on a change of scenery. Maps showed this park nearby and what a gem it was! It was nearly the Golden Hour of the day and many were gathered for photo opportunities. The park offered so many spectacular backdrops for photos. We strolled around the lake, watching the train pass by, saying hello to other families. We didn't stroll the entire park and only came across one playground which was much too large and chaotic for my 18 month old gd, but we will be back to explore more soon!

The train was more expensive than freestone park and more of their equipment at the moment is out of order. The design of the splash pad and bridge by the playground is really cool though. The lake is clean and the ducks are fun to see. The trees are mature so their immense size is nice for shade. There's even a cooking Ramada with large grills. We've been to the splash pad and play area so many times and since it's the only splash pad option downtown anymore, I would expect that it would be care for regularly. Today it was a disgusting mess. The splash pad is barely working, the kids there found at least three different drug paraphernalia items, and the bathrooms are unusable. So I’m deducting a star because I couldn’t send my kids to the bathroom because it’s by the parking lot and you can’t even see the bathroom through the trees that surround the playground plus there were homeless people by them so it didn’t feel safe. The park itself was great, it had a big sandbox (see 1st pic) and really cool playground equipment but after an hour we had to leave because some homeless people were yelling and came into the play area and we didn’t feel safe. When we walked back to the car there was a man behind us and another one who was angry about something and yelling in the parking lot so I’m deducting another star because we didn’t feel safe. This was my first time on this hiking trail, and I would rate it as a moderate hike. There’s a lot of incline, but the views along the way are incredible. There are also plenty of spots to stop and catch your breath. The scenery is absolutely stunning. However, parking can be a challenge as it’s very limited in this area. If you plan to hike here, I highly recommend arriving early since parking spots fill up quickly, and street parking is not allowed.
Be sure to bring enough water—at least a 15 oz (1.5L) bottle. If you’ve already consumed half of your water by the halfway point, I’d suggest turning back, as the Arizona heat can be intense. Even after reaching the end of the Mormon Trail, there are other trails you can continue on if you’re up for it, though I decided to stop there and head back. The hike back was definitely easier on the body.
I’d also recommend wearing hiking boots instead of shoes for more ankle support, as the trail has plenty of rocks that can make it slippery. The wrong footwear could easily cause you to slip or lose your balance.

Alright yeah I’m biased but hear me out. This trail holds serious sentimental weight. I took my partner on our first date here and it kind of locked in a core memory. That said, even if you’ve got zero emotional attachment to it, Mormon Trail is still a legit gem on its own.
The trail is well-kept, never sketchy, and gives you options. Tons of split-offs if you’re feeling adventurous or want to crank out extra miles. The parking lot can look slammed but once you’re moving it’s weirdly peaceful. You’ll run into the occasional mountain biker and maybe a hiker or two but for the most part it’s quiet enough to feel like you’ve got the desert to yourself.
The elevation will make your legs earn their protein, especially at the start and midway through, but not in a way that makes you question your life choices. Just enough burn to know you’re alive, with solid views to reward the grind. If you take a night hike, seeing the city lit up from the higher points is a view all of its own. The lights stretch forever and it hits different when everything else is still.
And if you want to make it even better, detour over to Fat Man’s Pass. It’s a solid little bonus for the curious and makes the hike feel even more like an adventure.
Whether you're looking for reflection time, cardio, or just want to see the sun light up the rocks like some kind of real-life nature filter, this trail never misses. Special for me, but honestly, it should be on anyone’s list.

It is kinda a nice park. Nothing to do but sit in the grass. No place to park and several homeless scattered about the park. This is not a good area as the day gets later. Per other reviews, I have NO idea what being Puerto Rican or Irish has to do with this facility and there are definitely NO swings or play equipment here. It's a gathering of 7 CEMETERIES where our AZ pioneers are interred. Its desert landscaping is in keeping with the desert we live in as the pioneers did. It's a lovely facility with many shade trees, benches for sitting, great to consider hosting events. LOTS of history on the gravestones remaining. Much preservation work is needed and clearly is in progress. The Smurthwaite House at this site is a true gem! Tours of the house and grounds are given by VERY knowledgeable volunteers. Highly recommended!

A must-visit, beautiful mountain in the heart of Phoenix with various intensity trails. Always spot lots of wildlife and the trails are busy with hiker and biker activity at various times in the morning. The paved trail up to the main tower is a great high-intensity trail for training. The visitor center side has plenty of parking and the center hosts many activities as well as a lovely information and display area where you can find books on identifying birds and garden insects, gardening in AZ, and many other AZ-themed resources. This is a great place for my kids to learn about the Arizona desert. You could spend all day exploring the trails if you wanted to, but we usually explore for less than an hour in the morning to get my kids used to hiking. The beginning of the trail is perfect for my young ones to experience hiking on flat, easy terrain. Then after we finish our hike, we head over to the visitor center to cool off. It is a beautiful space with a lot of interesting things to look at. We enjoy the children's room where they have lots of books, and educational toys, although they are outdated. The staff is very friendly as well, and they offer a reading program where kids can earn prizes for books they read.

I like this small museum, exhibit center that tells about how the citizens of Phoenix worked to save the natural desert from development back in the 1970s and continuing through today. It is truly a fabulous find in the middle of Phoenix! I highly recommend taking an hour to look at all the photos of wildlife found in the desert, in the middle of a big city! A lovely Gift Shop, too! Terrific volunteers who can tell you about the hiking trails the area and more.

The trails are manicured. The restrooms are clean (however there are no doors on the stalls). The trails vary from easy to challenging. Just know that the palo verde trees and bushes are buzzing full of bees, and whatever else is occupying the bushes. I didn't get stung, and didn't see anyone else get stung, but the trails were not peacefully quiet, they were buzzing. The trees were also full of hummingbirds, so it balanced out the experience.

Lived here for about 13 years & never have gone down to the Tempe Town Lake to take advantage of all the wonderful rentals. However, today I did. Sooo much fun. Rented Paddle boat for an hour, but didn't use all the time. The AZ sun can be brutal even when temps aren't 3 digit. The Lake has long hours so perhaps a sunset ride would be a little better. Either way, Tempe Town Lake is a nice little jewel in the desert.

We absolutely love hanging out at Lake Pleasant. There are so many different areas, each with a different vibe. You can go to Scorpion Bay Marina to enjoy the water park, dinning on the lake, boat rentals and more. Or, you can hit one of the many swimming areas... our favorite thing to do. There are plenty of swimming areas that can be reached with any type of vehicle, and then there are the more secluded areas on the northeast and east side of the lake that can be reached with a 4x4. We haven't tried the fishing or the campgrounds yet... but they are next!

Absolutely love Lake Pleasant, my favorite of Lakes in the Phx areas. Love the campgrounds at Road Runner and Desert Tortoise with the best lakefront spots with developed and primitive campsites! Gets crowded on the weekends, party atmosphere so go during the week if you want a more peaceful experience. PLEASE WEAR LIFE VESTS ( every year there are horror stories) and if you don’t know safety protocols for boat rentals and jet skis, get help. People have died getting drunk and being reckless. Wild burros run through the campsites so as you enter the Lake Pleasant area look out for them because they are getting hit by cars 😢You must watch small pets because coyotes are present. Check out sites 11-24 in Roadrunner but you must book months in advance to get the best lakefront sites, they go fast.
Desert Tortoise is harder to level but from there you have access and can hike down to the water easily. Was going here every month for several years and they are open to all types of vehicles, even my Tiny House on wheels! Dump station at exit. These are pics I took from my time spent there.

The lake is very low this time of year. The person at the entrance did state they won't be getting more water into the lake for another couple of months. There is no shade at the lake, if you plan on spending the day, I would recommend bringing your own shade structure, or at least umbrellas. Sun screen is a definite must. The water was warm, perfect for those that want to swim. They do have some hiking trails, which I recommend in the cooler months. This place isn’t just a park, it’s like someone took the concept of “public space” and went full bodybuilder with it. It’s huge, loaded with trails, fields, courts, and random areas where you could probably start a flash mob or a medieval joust and no one would bat an eye. Perfect for biking, running, walking, or just letting your kids burn through their sugar rush while you “supervise” from a shady bench. I barely made it through a fraction of it before realizing I’d need a snack stash and possibly a search party to explore the rest. Did circumference bto Ridgeline trail. 3.8 miles. A couple short inclines makes this hike perfect for beginners or a good hike before work. Beautiful views and it is fun to see the canal filled with water on the north side of it.
Half the mountain is often shaded which is quite nice. There is a dog park kids park and sports park at the start/end of the trail. There are also bathrooms.
Overall a lovely day and favorite hike despite being out of shape.

The mountains in this area are covered with intertwining hiking trails. The trails are well maintained (mostly rock and gravel) and go on for miles! It's best to guage the distance prior to starting your hike and be sure to carry enough water. I've run into two rattlesnakes in these mountains over the past 10 years, they don't seem to be plentiful, but they are here. Also, if you have sharp eyes, there are also some big chuckwallas to be found among the boulders. I tend to avoid this place in the summer because it's so hot, but in the winter months its a lot of fun and good exercise!

I've been skating for over 30 years. I was already skating for 11 years when this place was built. I skated in the contest on the basketball court to raise money for it. I miss the old pyramid (it was the best in the valley) and the way this park used to be. They've packed so much stuff in this park now there's no flow anymore, and the vibe sucks now. I think the course layout is really fun and I love the mountain shadows resort but the $30 price tag for a round in the summer is quite steep when the greens are in such bad shape. There was barely any grass on them. Pretty much un puttable. I'd imagine in winter time they would be in better shape. I think $15 would be a better price point for summer golf based on the shape of the greens. I will try it again in winter and report back. The staff was very good and the place looks fun with a cool bar and pro shop.

The service was basic and without any personal attention at best, the food was more like a TV dinner without the aluminum tray, I ordered the brisket and had to ask for BBQ sauce, after having to flag down the waitress. The trail is very easy to read and follow. There are some steep sections with loose rocks so be prepared for that. The long uphills will make it a great cardio workout and will reward you with some great views of Phoenix and the surrounding valley. Super fun if you have a dog or more!!! It's obviously still under improvements and repairs, but when it's finished, it will be beautiful and amazing. Up top, the airplanes can be loud, but if you go on the West side - Central/ 7Ave side, all the vegetation drowns out the noise, there's a foot bridge, two waterfalls, and a mini desert Oasis. There are some homeless campsites, but the few sites that are there are well hidden and the campers won't bother you. Walking in the wetlands has a bunch of little trails and lots of wildlife. The East side - Central/ 7St, is much closer to the road, more noisy, and close to warehouses, but little to no campsites. So, West is more adventersome though uneasy, East is more pedestrian and boring.

This park is lost. Not safe or sanitary. Parking lot full of "campers". You have to walk through a wall "campers" to get to bathrooms and the paths. 3 ft off the paths you see and hear more "campers". Parking lot and first little lake have no trash. Trash from "campers" covers the rest of the area. Seems like parks and rec clean and manage what you can see from road and parking lot. Plenty of parking and you can walk quite far. As others have mentioned it’s not the most amazing neighborhood but it’s a nice little area & I enjoyed my time there. Would I go back? No as I prefer to walk in quieter areas but this was a nice little getaway that’s very accessible.

This is a great "activity" path! It is so pretty going by the ponds, lakes, and golf courses! So inviting and you don't have to worry about car traffic or inhaling car exhaust when running, biking, skating, walking, etc! So many people out, happy and enjoying the beautiful outdoors, not to mention the beautiful views of the mountains! I wanted to yell out "FORE" a couple times, but I didn't haha!! The smell of the green grass was very welcoming instead of the stink of exhaust as previously mentioned! This path goes for miles! I personally was looking for distance and I got it!!

There is no parking. I parked in the shopping center just north of the golf course. Then walked accross course. I was the only person in the nature area. The canal which borders on the south had jumping fish and quite a few ducks. The golf course had a sizeable number of young rabbits and a dozen Quail. The nature area had a number of fountains. The pressure was too high or low but in 106 degree heat+ direct sunlight the water was pleasantly cooled. Fountains had water dishes left by visitors and a 5 gallon water bottle. There were a small number of morning doves, 1 Prairy dog and a thousand prairydogs burrows.

This loop trail of 1/3 of a mile is close to the entrance and I would recommend doing this one last. There weren't many plants, but rather it was more so just showing you spots where you may potentially spot hummingbirds or butterflies; by the way, I didn't see any of them. Also, some of the areas had orange cones or were closed due to either private events or there were puddles too so they didn't want people to slip. The positive side is there is plenty of shade. There are signs too explaining about the pollinating animals that were aforementioned, however there just really wasn't that much to see. Maybe better luck in the springtime.

This exhibit too was my second favorite. It was very informative and the trail starts with an overview of all the regions in a desert: mesquite, chaparral, etc. Then, it takes you through examples of each of those regions with signs further breaking it down. Also, it connects those regions to how Indians used those regions to survive. Along the loop, I saw Indian huts and kitchens- pretty sure they were replicas... and the cool thing is you can go in and stand inside them. I caught my breath at the desert oasis which was midway along the way, and it was a small pond, but it was tranquil and a calming place to rest from all the walking.
