We were there in early November. Trees were gorgeous
You pay a $5 fee to park but the Visitor Center is free. The building is made of several feet of concrete so it is cool inside. There is a small gift shop with stickers, books, toy animals etc.
There was a very informative decent. We didn't have time to walk the trails but the whole scene is natural beauty. Lots of birds around and the cranes were just starting to arrive

We went on a partially cloudy afternoon, and the shifting light made the scenery even more dramatic, with layers of mountains, sky, and city unfolding beneath us. The ride itself is smooth and scenic, and once at the top, the short trail along the ridge to the cabin was breathtaking — one of the highlights of the visit.
Do keep in mind that temperatures can drop quickly at dusk, even in the middle of summer, so bring an extra layer if you plan to linger for sunset.

Beautiful! Lift operators were knowledgeable and friendly. All the staff were very helpful. We only managed a hike up to the Kiwanis cabin due to time constraints but it was beautiful. I would recommend bringing something a little more sturdier than running shoes to hike in, a water bottle and be prepared for altitude. My wife experienced a little bit of sickness. Her first time experiencing it. Other than that I highly recommend this tour.

My adult son and I went here when I visited nearby and it was THE best!! The tram runs people up and down to the top of the mountain every 15-20min up until around 6:30pm I believe. The ride up didn't take long at all and there was an employee riding up, giving the history of the area and the tram itself. The views were absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous! Once at the top, you can hike around at your own discretion. There's a beautiful ski lift around the back for the wintertime. There are also several trails. We did some light walking due to bear alert signs. There's a restaurant at the top as well. It's a bit on the pricey side. We were fortunate enough to catch two guys who were hang gliding at the very top of the peak! It was such an amazing experience! There's also a cute little gift shop at the base of the mountain.

The Sandia Peak Tramway was absolutely amazing! The views were breathtaking – from the city below to the surrounding mountains, it felt like a postcard come to life. There was no wait for the tram, which made the experience even smoother. The guides were great, sharing lots of history and interesting facts both on the way up and on the way down. It was definitely worth it, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Mexico. The views alone make it unforgettable!

It’s a nice place to pay a visit if you are in the way to Arizona. Went to the Visitor Center and learn about the history and old Pueblo rock carvings known as the Petroglyphs. Before the hike, you may be encouraged by the information ranger, to watch a short video near the gift shop so that hikers may appreciate the monument. There are a few trails and the easier and short trails can find around 100 over petroglyphs. Other trails can have more than 200 of them. I do enjoy the visit and getting some souvenirs.

We went here during the government shut down. The staff was still there! Giving directions and answering questions. Now the visitor center was closed of course but they were still outside the gates to help us. Wonderful humans! They didn't have the passport stamps at the "Main Gate" but drew a date stamp for me in my book. That guy made my day doing that. I loved him for doing that. When we got to one of the trails they had the stamp there so I got both ❤️. It made a sad situation in our country that more memorable because of the human nature, kindness, regular people sharing an experience together, for each other. It was amazing seeing the art someone left behind so long ago. Trying to understand what they were thinking. Seeing a captured moment in time of the thought of another human being. Some make perfect sense and some you will walk away wondering what in the world was that. If you get the chance take a walk where others have stepped for so long.

Really neat place. Much larger than I thought. Started at the middle parking lot and walked to the rinconada trail to the south... thats a good distance away and not many petroglyphs along the way. Turns out there's 3 parking lots... north , central and south and I think even on the back side fir the volcano. After the south trail I drove to the north and there is neighborhoods and gas stations and restaurants in between... feels like an entirely different park but its connected. This was my first time getting ours of petroglyphs and I had no idea it would be so fun to find them hidden in the rocks. Gonna add this to my list of things to photograph as I travel.

A piece of history that you definitely need to see! Very well maintained and great signage! The hiking trails range from moderate to difficult, depending on which site you choose to visit. We went with the Boca Negra Canyon which showcases around 100 petroglyphs and is not a difficult hike at all. I didn't see all of them but I saw quite a few. We spent about 1 hour and 30 minutes there. Also, I started with the Visitors Center and got some good info and a map to start. It is free to visit...

Oh my gosh, why are 700-year-old rock carvings so fascinating?! I mean all it is is some people sitting around chipping away at these rocks to make pictures. Yet here I am in 95° weather walking all around this lava rock hill trying to find as many of them as I can. But there's so much more behind it than that because you don't know what these people were thinking when they carved these certain symbols. What they meant in life to them or to the community or to the universe. When I go to these places I always look around that area to see what kind of terrain and such that these people were living in day by day. Compared to the luxuries that we have today it looks so hot and dry and inhospitable but they knew how to live off the land and with the land and took advantage of every little thing that was provided to them yet they never wasted anything. There are several trails to chose from. Me... in the right place at the wrong time.

Beautiful claret layered mountains holding cacti, brush, and trees. Hiking here is a perfect way to spend an afternoon--beautiful sunset views looking west towards Albuquerque. The trail is fairly level for a good while. There is plenty of space and eventual rising elevation if you'd like a more physically intense hike.

My favorite place for local mountain biking. Many trail combinations for mountain biking and hiking. It never gets old and there is terrain for all levels. Open space staff was friendly and attentive when I purchased a season parking pass for $30.00. There's plenty of parking available. Summer hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. It is common to see wildlife including deer, rabbits, roadrunners, birds of prey, and snakes. You may see an occasional bobcat, if you keep your eyes open. There is also picnic areas there with tables and shade structures. You could rent areas for large parties if you desire.

One of my favorite places to hike in Albuquerque. Lots of trails and options for hiking and lots of picnic tables. The pit toilets are usually very well taken care of. It is a really beautiful area. If it's a pretty day on the weekend, better get there early though, as the parking tends to fill up rather quickly.
They recently have moved from paying at the entrance to paying with card at the trailhead. I have a pass, and not quite sure what the message on the machine meant (see picture), but I put it in my window as usual. I guess. Elena Gallegos open space is a park in northeast Albuquerque. We visited this park to go on the short hike and visit the pond where Domingo de Baca would water his sheep. From SW Explorers League, an advanced outdoor group. This park competes with the Bosque area as two of the most unique public access areas in the West, within a city. Try both of you love the outdoors and visit ABQ. In EGOS, surrounded by the granite pinnacles of the Sandia Front, you can choose from multiple rambles in nearly level high desert, or tackle the Pino trail to the crest low point, and the D Baca trail which ends in a steep climb to the 1955 TWA crash Site. Both afford complete tours of all the varied montane habitats the Sandias can offer. Take a picnic to enjoy in the well kept ramadas with nice restrooms nearby too.

The Aquarium is beautiful, with a great variety of sea animals and well-designed exhibits that are fun for both kids and adults. My kids and I traveled to Albuquerque for a quick visit and had a great time at the museum. Prices were extremely reasonable and we enjoyed learning about the natural history of New Mexico. They have a lot of interactive exhibits that make visiting fun for all ages. The clerk at the front, Lisa, was wonderful and so friendly. Highly recommend buying tickets at the counter as you will get a great deal on show tickets. We saw the Mission to Mars show in the planetarium and the 3D Desert Elephants show. Such a great time!

Albuquerque is so lucky to have this amazing museum! Filled with beautiful exhibits on both Albuquerque and the Southwest, this museum is a must see while visiting Albuquerque. There are some excellent and unique pieces of art, both local and international. The portion that talks about civics and history of New Mexico was unique and well executed. A bonus is that the museum is right next to old town. My only wish was that the free parking for museum guests was better advertised. We wound up paying $12 for parking that we didn’t need to, and it isn’t like there’s a refund.

We had the best time visiting all the friendly ducks at Tingley Beach! My grandkids enjoyed seeing them play in the water, and glide while landing so gracefully. Tingley Beach has come such a long way from decades ago when I would take my kids. Now taking my grandchildren it is so nicely kept and clean. Beautiful spot on the shore of the Rio Grand river. There are several ponds for fishing catch and release for children. Plenty of birds specially migratory ones can be seen in autumn. There is bike and walking trail and can go miles through the Bosque. Some trees are cut like a cone by otters ! Very natural and great place to walk or picnic. Stopped here while traveling and needed a break from driving. Plenty of parking, cute little ponds with locals fishing. There was a designated bike trail and a designated walking trail. The views of the Rio Grande were easy to get to and I barely saw any litter! Unique little turquoise ponds are further down the trail with lots of turtles. Worth a stop to be near some water in the desert lands. The welcome center was full of flowers and a playground for the little ones.

There's a $5 parking fee, but you can use an America The Beautiful Pass to park there for free. Bring water. They don't have a fountain at the bathroom at the parking lot. If you go any time outside the summer, there will be ice on the trail towards the top. Other than that, the trail is well-marked and the grade isn't all that bad. The views are boring at first, but you get some great views starting at about half-way up. I would recommend this trail if you want to burn some calories are get some great views.

The Rinconada Canyon Trail is one of three trails in the Petroglyph National Monument. The large parking lot is located south of the Visitor Center. This is a 2.2 mile loop trail. This is an easy trail that is very well marked. The petroglyphs are fantastic to see.

I LOVE THIS HIKE!!! I used to live off of Coors and Montano and I would visit this Trail at least three times a week. I would like to run the trails, meditate at the end of the trails, get all kinds of good pictures of the petroglyphs. We were just passing through Albuquerque and decided to visit the zoo — what a disappointment. You won’t really see any animals. A few birds and some exhausted kangaroos hiding in the shade — that’s about it. It felt like a complete waste of time and money.
I strongly suggest checking the weather forecast and asking the staff if animals will even be out before you buy tickets.
My husband and I love zoos and try to visit one in every city we travel to in the U.S. There were times when the weather was cool and a zoo employee actually told us in advance that the animals would be hiding indoors. We appreciated that honesty.
Here in Albuquerque, nobody warned us about anything — not a word. I think that’s unfortunate. If we had known, we absolutely wouldn’t have gone.
I get it — they’re trying to make money — but this felt wrong. We left feeling quite disappointed. The choice is yours, but personally, I wouldn’t return or recommend it during hot weather.

I love our zoo. Its much nicer than many we have been to. There is a great selection of animals to view: elephants, hippos, rhino, zebra, giraffes, polarbear, but to name a few. I love the fact that the animals have the choice to be out in their enclosures or inside where they have temperature controlled environments. That does may mean, however, that if animals choose to be inside, you will not see them. Sometimes I walk around twice just to double check. In the summer, it's always good to go early in the morning. There have been some great changes to the habitats at the zoo. The animals really do have great space. However, there has been ongoing construction due to this, and it seems about 1/3 of the zoo is currently closed. Four more habitat construction. I have been super excited about most of the changes except for the Australia shores. That has been disappointing after the big build up to its opening. The paths are well maintained, and zoo well mapped out. It's great that even in the heat of the summer, many of the areas are shaded by trees. You can always pop into the Penguin Chill to cool down and watch these cute amazing little creatures. It's always entertaining. There is also the reptile house and indoor amphibian exhibit.
While the cost of entry is low compared to some other zoos, unfortunately the food prices inside are exorbitant. You might wish to pack a lunch or take snacks, and water in the hot summer. There are water bottle, refilling stations throughout the park. I do really miss the train and think it's a shame that the shuttle is no longer in service. One thing I think really needs to be remedied. Overall it really is a great zoo worth visiting.

If you're going to be going to the zoo I'd highly recommend getting the package deal of the zoo and aquarium for a really reduced price. They are only two miles apart but we'll worth going to both. It was a great way to spend my wedding anniversary! The weather was pleasant,the atmosphere was filled with people from different backgrounds with their children having fun. It was relaxing & joyful! The price to get in was fair, $11 if you’re a resident of NM. Only one upset, the price for a snow cone was around $9, boo! The employees were friendly. Parking was in a carport area which we were grateful for. The Albuquerque Zoo is a great way to spend time with family and make lasting memories 🌷the elephants were my favorite ❤️

I hiked the LaLuz trail 8 times over about 9 years. I went with a hiking buddy and we would hike in the mid to late fall. We left the parking lot/trailhead at about 6 a.m. when it was quite chilly but after 10 minutes of walking I felt warmed up. I would routinely be breathing hard once reaching about 8000 ft
elevation and we would rest for 5 minutes every half hour or so. It became tedious when crossing the rockfall, with I think 18 switchbacks, but once past them the feeling was the hike was doable. And it was. The fall colors were outstanding and the vistas unforgettable. Reaching the crest was rewarding and we sometimes dined there.
We always took the tram down, having a second car parked at the lower lot. A good plan, especially as we were not under 55 years old and only used to elevations below 7500 feet.
I highly recommend this hike and would rate it moderately difficult. It was not steep, but the thin air could be a problem.

Pretty hard trail but the view was so worth it!! Felt like the trail was never going to end, but also felt so proud to complete it! Take lots of water and snacks! And toilet paper just in case. You could be on the trail for a while!! There is a shop and civilization at the top! It was a little disappointing to see a parking lot and an easy access road that could get you to the awesome view, but hiking was definitely more fun and more rewarding! I totally recomend this trail to hikers who are in pretty decent shape! It's so fun and beautiful!! It took us about 4 hours to get to the top with a fews breaks. Start the hike earlier in the day. I hiked La Luz trail as a last minute decision after going hot air balloon riding. It is an amazing hike, but definitely one of the more difficult ones I have done.
-I booked a one way ticket with the sandia tram just in case (I am so glad I did) but just a heads up it does not bring you back to the La Luz trailhead (it is a 12 min drive)
-Bring more water than you think you need. I only had one water bottle and it lasted me until about an hour or two before I finished (that was rationing it lol)
-bring bug spray (they are aggressive, especially if you stand still for a minute) and sunscreen
-bring at-least one snack I had a granola bar and a piece of gum which helped a lot with the lack of water and dry mouth.
-I took la Luz to upper tramway it feels way longer than it is and the closer you get to the top it gets super rocky
-I couldn’t see the tram until I was practically done( at that point I was really hoping it actually existed lmao)
- I did see a black bear on the trail I just put my hands over my head to appear larger and talked to it telling it to go away as I backed up slowly. It walked toward me but then left up into the wooded area. Very neat experience.
10/10 would definitely recommend, but not for the weak it’s definitely difficult.
-I did point to point but you can do out and back if you have enough supplies ( I was just super unprepared and on a time crunch.

I’m a huge crystal, rock, and mineral nerd since I was a kid, and I found the museum delightful. The mansion it’s housed in alone is a sight worth seeing, and it’s enchanting. The turquoise collection went above and beyond my expectations. It had everything—from art to fashion, from ancient to contemporary, from artifacts to raw and polished specimens. There was even a collection of imitation turquoise. You learn how it’s gathered and mined and treated. There was so much in the museum that was impressive, breathtaking, really artful, or just worth seeing, like the George Washington Stone. They had specimens with history from many mines, so I even left with an idea of what my favorite locales and quality of turquoise are. There’s history and art with turquoise all around the world. There’s so much cool art in this museum. It was well worth admission price. I learned a lot.
I also like how it was organized. You watch a short orientation video in the beginning that shows you where to go, then you’re on your own to wander. They have QR codes, but I prefer reading plaques, which they had plenty of. I thoroughly enjoyed all the different rooms and exhibits.
Then there’s the gift shop, which also exceeded expectations. They have expensive, impressive high quality specimens and jewelry. They also have affordable pieces, antique jewelry, and even imitation pieces. The man working in the gift shop, Mario, was really knowledgeable and friendly. The stuff they had was so good, so I was very indecisive! But I ended up with two beautiful raw specimens and an antique ring.
The owners and staff were all very welcoming and I think they’ve made this private museum a really lovely, informative, interactive museum. If you love art, history, minerals, jewelry, fashion, or architecture, this museum has something to impress you. A really fun experience. I’d definitely come again, both to spoil myself in the gift shop and soak up more of the museum and learn more. There was plenty to see and learn.

I don’t understand some of these one star reviews or some of the other complaints. I bought my timed ticket easily and arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled time slot. You receive an email that gives you all the details you need. My guess is that people don’t read it. Using google maps to find the museum was easy in my opinion. There is a decent sized sign that says Turquoise Museum parking so I’m not sure why people have trouble finding the place. This is a private museum and they can make all the rules they want. It’s basically a private collection. If you don’t like the rules, don’t go. Anyway, I loved walking around the rooms. There’s a lot of information on turquoise itself and many displays of jewelry made of turquoise. I roamed around for over an hour. I forgot the names of the owner and proprietor but they were extremely helpful when I had wanted to get a necklace evaluated for their $35 feet (there are other options). They were honest and didn’t charge me as my necklace wasn’t worth evaluating. I stayed for quite a while talking to staff. It was worth visiting in my opinion.

Not a place you can go once and see/ know even a quarter of the history behind turquoise, mining, artifical, etc. I definitely plan to come back and do a bit more!!! So much to learn there and worth the trip. If you like turquoise or jewelry this museum is probably a five-star for you. They have a fairly unfriendly online requirement ticket policy and only unlock the doors for a few minutes to let people inside. They say everyone must watch the 10-minute video and it is only shown every 30 minutes. They can only sell as many tickets as seats in the room with the TV for the video. If you are not there when the video starts you miss your spot and are out your money.
Overall: huge collection and too much to learn. A poor method of dealing with potential customers. If you think you will leave with the knowledge of how to identify natural turquoise, you will not.

We visited Cliff’s Amusement Park with our whole family, from an elderly grandmother who needed to rent a scooter to get around, to our two little girls ages 3 and 9. We all had an excellent time! The water area was a huge hit with the kids and the food was great!!
However, what truly stood out to us was the kindness and care of the staff. My 9 year old daughter suddenly had a nosebleed while we were there. One of the employees, a wonderful lady named DJ, went above and beyond to help us. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and patient. She provided first aid, stayed with my daughter until the bleeding stopped, and made sure she was okay before we continued enjoying our day. It took time and effort, and we are so grateful for the care she showed.
We felt safe and well cared for. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend Cliff’s for a fun, family-friendly experience with excellent staff who truly care.

Nice, clean, wasn't that busy, but possibly due to it being a Thursday when we went, but insanely HOT. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen & maybe water your swim suit for the water area so you dont have to change in and out of your clothes frequently. They have paid lockers that accept credit cards small is 15 & large is 18 for the day. I suggest to get a locker by the water area if you plan on taking in your swimwear and changing inthe bathrooms. Food is limited to high sugary drinks, water & pizza which to me are pricey. Maybe come with some snacks & ice water. Customer service is meh, I dont blame the workers as it was miserable being in the heat. I like this park & recommend to go during the week if you want to skip the crowds.

We visit Cliffs a few days ago, it was fun for the most part. The staff was friendly and helpful, one employee who stood out was a girl operating the wind rider named Ariela, she was such a sweetheart and very friendly, full of smiles and talkative. Officer Salazar was there in the beginning as we got searched, in general he was talking to customers , guiding them through the lines , he was very helpful and kind. He spoke to our group very professionally and helped get our big group/team divided into lines so we could go faster. Then later during the day a little girl in our group fell , scraping both knees. This has been the worst education experience I have ever had. not only are the majority of instructors absolutely useless, no communication, no updating syllabus's, and constantly shifting and changing the schedule so its impossible to know when anything is due, but the students and faculty are absolutley no help and will do anything to find an excuse that essentially says "its your problem". the problem I needed help with was something I couldn't do on my own because it needed permission from them. When I went to go get the problem fixed, I was tugged around all campus to find help to tell me the only people that can help closed their offices at 11. Not for lunch. And that doesn't work for me, and when I tried to fix the problem that day, becuase I was unaware until the final day to fix it, and I have other things like a job and family resposibilities that makes that an impossibility for me. And now you have essentially kicked me out unless I find help, but why the hell would I do that when your "help" has been nothing but blaming the victim and refusing to help in any way.

This use to be my son's favorite place to get away and play, I've never personally been a fan as they don't allow pets and I personally believe the two should always connect in some way even if it had a separate dog park as there is plenty of open space for that to be built but they have now constructed the playground in a way that makes it unfavorable and controversial only providing one single swing in one area and only 3 in the smaller kids area when this is supposed to be the amusement parks of playgrounds, it now has more walking space than actual play activities. Both my son and I who have been going here for many many years are very disappointed with the changes and stipulations and will likely not return as it's not near what it use to be and could potentially be. There're plenty of other more accommodating playgrounds that also allows your fur babies that will be way more fun for your children

Quite nice park to go to with your dog. That is, if your dog is big. My dog is small to medium at 25 pounds and pretty much 1 in 10 is smaller than him.
He got attacked by a group of dogs recently ( then another rouge dog someone had off the leash ) so he has, what I would call PTSD, from it I would say because He was named happy for his personality And why he was selected by me for a service dog, but he has not been happy about any of the dogs he has been introduced to lately of any real size.
I would say even with that going on we had a wonderful time at the park, which is not always the case and especially from where the other side of town where we just moved from.
Bring your own set of checkers or chest pieces because they do have a wonderful set of tables as well for you to play on. I’ve included pictures of the tables as well showing them in day and very doable for all walks of human life. If you need shade and a breeze, these tables come equipped with that.
I also wanted to take the time to mention that they have an high impact interval training system here( the green machines you see in the center of the park lines up to a cement walkway. I try to let everyone know this fact, which is this expensive park amenity is basically A FREE GYM for all of the people like me who are on a budget and really want to work out too. I will tell you two of the machines don’t work, one of which is the squat machine which you can technically use without any tension.
Usually there is 11 or 10 steps/ individual machines in these systems where you do anywhere from 8 to 15 (to some people even do 30) but the average is about 8 to 15 repetitions of the exercise and then rapidly move down to the next machine. It keeps your target heart rate up, and as your endurance grows, you can move from one set of the different machines to 2, or 3 sets pausing for a suggested minute between the rounds minimum, It is a wonderful way to get a well-rounded workout with your taxpaying dollars. I have included pictures of the green high impact interval training machines as well.

Beautiful urban park convenient to Old Town, Albuquerque. There is something for everybody. Nice walking path around the perimeter of the park. Large field for group sports. Perfect place to visit and reflect on our ancient past. Lots of neat petroglyphs right next to the neighboring town of Albuquerque. It’s a shame that it’s so easily accessible as there is a lot of vandalism to the rocks. Glad it hasn’t been shut down but I do wish they’d take security here a bit more seriously.
You do have to go through and gate that closes at 4:30 but there was sign at the hut saying that they aren’t charging fees at the moment so no one was there. We did see a City of Albuquerque employee washing out the restrooms and locking up behind us as we left though..
The main trail here is steep and very rocky. Don’t be fooled by the pavement. Take your hiking sticks if you use them and be safe going up and down. Also, watch for snakes as this is the perfect place for them.

Small parking lot in front of a lava flow that is decorated with petroglyphs. We took 2 trails there (the shortest trails ever lol) but we saw many petroglyphs! They were so cool… also so many people want to leave their mark- flood thing these ancient signs are now protected or we would not have found any left. So sad to see grafitty in these places.
In all very interesting site and yes, many cool petroglyphs within a short minute walk from the car. Not wheelchair accessible- but I think you can see some from the parking lot. You do have to climb like a mountain goat… around the rocks and up little stairs… and you get to the coolest ones. What fun.

I hiked the loop while I was visiting Albuquerque and I really enjoyed the hike.
At the top of the mountain, I had to scramble some massive rocks to continue on over to the other side, but that only added to the fun.
The eye was easy to spot and the trail was not crowded at all. I only saw a few other visitors and they were all at the base of the hike.

A solid bet for a winter hike. The route is fully exposed on a southern aspect, so it clears of snow and ice relatively quickly. There is about a 1,300' elevation gain over the course of about 2 miles. I made it from Copper trailhead to the Eye in just under an hour and a half on a sunny, warm for late November day. It was my first time making the hike, and I stopped several times to doublecheck the route on my phone and to drop landmarks on Avenza. It should be easy enough if you are in tip-top shape and likely to be quite difficult if you aren't fit at all.
Coming up from Copper trailhead, the route is unmarked past the intersection of the 365 and Hilldale Junction. The OSM Light basemap currently available on Avenza is the only map I have seen that includes the route.
You'll know you're headed the right direction when you're headed north through a patch of boulders. You will stoop down a bit to follow the trail through an arch formed by two boulders, then head ESE to a saddle.
You take a turn to the N there, and then NE/E. You will generally parallel on old fenceline and come upon a beaded heart along the way. Keep following the fenceline until you come to an intersection with a N/S trail.
The trail you are on becomes less clear at this point, but stay on it by turning uphill. You will catch sight of the Eye soon enough.
There are a couple of ways to make the hike a loop rather than an out-and-back. The shorter route starts by backtracking until you reach the junction with the N/S trail. Turn N there and wind your way down. If you see three coyotes howling at the moon you're about halfway back to Copper trailhead.

This loop trail was pretty awesome. It was interesting having the serenity off the mountains and still being able to hear the city to a degree while on the don't of the mountain. We attend the first morning session at the gondola club section. The balloons couldn't ascend due to the high wind but we loved seeing them inflate. The balloon glow was cool. I wasn't sure I wanted to go, but my friends already bought tickets so I did go. I had trouble finding the parking lot, but with the help of the Albuquerque police department I finally found it. Walking towards the park I was able to watch the drone show which was awesome. Getting there I had to find my friends which I did about a hour after I got there. But to be fair I was so spell bound on all the balloons and how you could go up and talk with them. Everyone was so excited and it was like being in an place where everyone treated each other with so much respect. Everything about this adventure was mind blowing and entertaining. We enjoyed the Gondola area. It was absolutely phenomenal! The only drawback was the chaotic traffic going to the venue. No clear signs posted (ESPECIALLY if you are from out of town). Absolutely breathtaking!! What an incredible experience. This is said to be the largest balloon festival in the world. I highly recommend booking the morning show. In the evening the balloons don't actually ascend into the sky (they remain on the ground & just light up). You should plan on arriving early (4am-4:30), especially if you want to catch the drone show (very cool & worth seeing). There is coffee & breakfast food for sale on site. Bring a fold up chair or a blanket for the ground as there are no seats available.

We had a great time at the balloon festival. It POURED the first night. We were able to use our tickets the next day to get in since it was canceled. Fireworks, drone show, skydiving team, wood carving, balloon launch, special shape balloons, lots of fair food, and a merchant building with lots of amazing things to buy. Kid zone with activies balloon related to do. You can get in a balloon basket and see what the inside of the the balloon is like. Our kids are adults so we didn't fully see that tent of attractions, but it was very crowded and looked like a good time for the kids. Would highly recommend. Hoping to bring the grandkids from Ohio in the future. Make sure to have cash for parking.

I took a cab to petroglyphs national monument visitor center. By the time I went to the visitor center, it was only 8 o'clock, the visitor center would open only at 8.30. So I just walked around and met a fellow hiker. She told me that she lives around and she told me to watch out for rattlesnakes because there are so many of those. The flora there were labeled and there was a plant which can be used to treat rattlesnake bites. On another note, it is not really a visitor center. It's called a visitor center, but it's actually an information desk and that is where the passports to your national stamps are located. It's just one stamp and next to it is the park gift shop. The gift shop opens at nine o'clock. I started hiking and I saw so many critters. So many of those everywhere, I had to be so careful not to step on them. I had to watch every step of mine. When I went to the information desk, the ranger told me that I can go to the Rinconada Canyon, there is a connector trail of one mile to the Rinconada trailhead and then the Rinconada trail itself is roughly 2-2.5 miles. She told me I could do that. She gave me maps of the park and then I asked her for the stamp. She also stamped in my passport to your national parks book. I watched a movie about the Petroglyphs National Monument - it was like 20-25 minutes maybe. So it was around 9 o'clock by the time the movie was done and by the time the gift shop was also open. So I went and got a fridge magnet. And after that, I started hiking and I took the one mile connecting trail to the Rinconada Canyon and there I did the canyon loop. I saw a couple of petroglyphs which were pretty cool and there were some explanations but no matter how much you try to explain or what story you try to tell, you cannot really know what the petroglyph means. Only the creator of the petroglyph truly knows what they're making and everyone else is not really aware of it. One can make their interpretations but no matter what one interprets, it may not be the right thing. So that's the bottom line. I saw a lot of critters, a bunch of salamanders and some red, tiny red crustaceans. It was also pretty hot, but manageable. There are so many other hikes that can be explored in the area.

The Petroglyph National Monument Visitor Center is a small site but worth a quick stop if you want to speak to a park rangers or get an overview of the park and trails. The visitor center, located in what was previously an old Adobe home, is quite small. There is a gift shop and information kiosk at the top of the slope. The public restrooms are pit toilets located near the parking lot.
There is no exhibit hall, but there are some information signs around the Visitor Center. There is also a 20 minute film shown on the patio which provides a great overview of the geological formation of the basin area as well as the petroglyphs themselves. Ask a ranger the start the film if it is not already showing.
Note that there are no petroglyphs at this location. Instead, you will need to drive to either the Boca Negra Canyon, the Rinconada Canyon, or the Piedras Marcadas Canyon.

This trail is awesome. It is a series of braided trails and not maintained after the first half or so, so finding the "right" trail tends to be difficult. This trail is also quite steep with loose rock, so make sure you have good, grippy shoes! It is full sun and no shade so go when it's cool out. The views are incredible! Easy walk with a payout of large rocks that are a great place to rest. This is one of my favorite very easy hikes around Albuquerque. Most of the ground is fairly level and to get to the type of rocks shown, it's less than a mile. This was my third adventure in Albuquerque, NM. This was a sunset hike, although it was pretty cloudy and raining in certain parts of the city. I hiked the Eye of the Sandias Loop Trail and attempted to go up to Peak 7645 but decided not to when I realized I had to climb another peak to continue on the trail. I got to other peak and saw a trail that led to the top, at first I passed it but something inside me said go back and get to the top, I did and took a break there. The rest of the trail was straight down. Views of I-40 and Albuquerque down below.

I hiked this trail with my family up to Embudo Spring and back. The trail is wide and sandy with little shade cover so sun exposure was fierce. The first bit of the trail was mostly scrub cactus, but once the canyon closed up around us, the rock features and plant life became more varied and interesting. The features of interest were a water tower that made fun laser sounds when we threw rocks at it, a flash flood blocking pool, and of course the embudo spring, which was dry at the time. The trail was moderately steep and diverged and reconverted several times. It was not clear which was the preferred trail at each divergence and if we took the wrong one we had to scramble up rocks to return to the main trail. This seems to be a popular dirt bike location.

Great trail with some excellent views. However, it's easy to wander off the beaten path as the trail isn't marked too well. I would suggest bringing a map app of some kind to avoid getting lost in the woods. Also, as you can see in these photos, if you go far up the mountain, it gets much colder and you can see much more snow. Be safe and bring a good pair of hiking shoes so you don't lose your footing.

Truly spectacular views.
We started on the La Luz trail but instead of taking it all the way down we turned off and reconnected with the crest trail. It took us 2 hours but we really had to rush it to avoid getting caught in the dark. It would be more comfortable to do this loop in 2.5 - 3 hours.
The trail has some steep drop offs so definitely not for young children or anyone afraid of heights. The difficulty of the loop ranged from very easy near the tramway station to quite challenging with some steep elevation gains.
Sturdy footwear is definitely recommended.

I did hike 1.4 miles (back and forth) from the tramway 🚡 station to Kiwanis cabin and it was an spectacular hike. I highly recommend getting out of the main trail to some beautiful view points that unfortunately are not all of the marked but if you follow other people's steps you won't regret it. This is another must hike trail if your visiting the Sandia Mountain area. This is a wonderful little hidden gem of a park. Almost every day you can come out and watch folks flying amazing remote-control aircraft. The park is set up like an airport (look on Google Earth) with a runway. If you're interested in flying your own plane, they follow AMA rules. They have a separate area for flying helicopters. This place has a clean and well maintainted parking area. There are multiple hiking trails that weave around through rocky hills and down into sandy arroyos lined with beautiful cottonwood trees (mixed with saltcedar and russian olive). My family and I encountered a very lengthy gopher snake, deer tracks, bobcat scat, and my dog sniffed out a dead skunk, so there is quite a bit of wildlife.
I though this area would be more trashed because of its proximity to the city, but it is fairly clean, some trash in the arroyos, a dump site with an old vehicle and another with roofing materials. Native plants; winterfat, broadleaf milkweed, saltbush, cottonwoods, native grasses, russian thistle, etc. The milkweed plants are flowering (early July) and they are covered with tarantula-hawk-wasps and butterflies. My kids loved observing the state insect, from a distance!

Nice little spot on the outskirts of Eastern Albuquerque. Multiple trails crisscross the place. A lot of hills so be prepared for some exercise. Not suitable for those who can't handle steep terrain with loose rocks. Otherwise a great exercise spot. The hills guarantee a good cardio. The day I discovered it the lot was full and it was a windy day. I saw mountain bike use and some hikers who were obviously geared up for a longer hike. Sign says no camping. Down by the little stream there are fantastic large boulders grouped together. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of graffiti on them. Otherwise the place was pretty clean. Being so close to town makes this a real gem right next to the highway.

It's awesome that this exists and the scenery is nice but there is little to no trail signage, no way to understand where to eat and shop along this 20 plus mile trail and it just seems like a huge miss. Albuquerque is a nice city and to not have signs to help out of towners it ends up being a huge miss versus what it could be.... Having said that, there are parks along the way to stop at and it has interesting wildlife and the people are very nice.
