I would pay good money to sit there and watch people slowly get mad at each other trying to climb back up if it was wet/rainy/muddy. As we were making our way back, all the late-starters were now trickling onto the trail in all ranges of preparedness. THIS IS NOT A SUNDRESS AND NIKE'S trail even in ideal states like today. Not that it's some super technical hike, but do people seriously not look up reviews and pictures before they go for a hike at 4,200 feet? By the time we got back to the car, the place was a zoo. People were taking the time to walk the mile to the real parking lot and lookout, then just turning around and going back without doing the actual hike. Honestly, good for them. We used all trails free version and that worked perfect. There is an outer trail which is cliffside and no sun covering. The inner trial has some shade but you don't get to see as much of the ocean. If you go past the golf course, there is a beach which is pretty secluded. You can also see the cave but it is closed. A lot of the outer trail is sandy. Sandals are not recommended for this hike. Watch out for the tripping hazard of all of the roots. Gym shoes or closed toe shoes are ideal.

You are walking inside a rain forest the hole time. It took us most of the day to finish the hike. Even though it's not too difficult, the mud definitely made the journey difficult for us. At the end of the trail I was covered with mud. I almost fell couple of times and my husband fell once. But we didn't give up and made it to the top. There were incredible birds and bird sounds on our trail. We often stopped and listened to them. But beware: birds and mosquitoes are working together because everytime we stopped i had additional a few bites- even with the bug spray. So definitely apply bug spray before and during the hike. Some beautiful views of the stream towards the end. Once at the Camp you can refresh in the stream which is fairly wide here (shallow dam a few 100ft above the Mohini Rd crossing). Rented a lifted Wrangler Rubicon to get to the actual trailhead vs. hiking the extra eight miles round trip from the arboretum. We had a drizzly day, so were concerned that the water crossings on the road would be risky. Water over the roads was dead calm despite the rain, and we managed them with ease. The hike itself is slow-going. We did it without a guide and found the route-finding to be a little tricky at times. There is a fair amount of deep mud (up to knees in some places). The trail is mostly well defined with a lot of overgrowth in the chest/head area. We did a lot of hiking in a hinged position. My lower back was the most sore after the hike from this.
