We decided to celebrate a special occasion here and were thrilled with the experience. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere made it feel like a real greek/ Santorini experience (we toured greece few years back). The food was exceptional, and the service was outstanding - Tony and the manager were fantastic! We enjoyed complimentary olive bread, followed by an amazing seafood platter for two ($49 each) with generous portions and bold flavors. The baklava dessert was a sweet treat, made with rich local honey. To top it off, we received a complimentary digestive drink, Ouzo 12. We had the Taverna Special, a menu for two people, which contains a variety of dishes pared down in size so we could try as much as we could fit (including Hommus, Pita, Saganaki, Keftethes, Horiatiki Salad & Spanakopita - Kalamari, Arni Kleftiko & Roast Potatoes), which was so much food we took leftovers home. We even asked to see the dinner menu to see if it was different, it wasn't just more expensive. The food was good but not super warm, however the Nan bread was really good. This would be a good indian restaurant for newbies the the world of indian food, as the only real curry was a butter chicken, but no lamb or beef Madras etc. We also tried the chips with curry sauce.....not great. Our server was very friendly and did a great job. Unfortunately due to the lack of menu options I would not bother to go back as there are some amazing authentic Indian restaurants here in Calgary.

Looks like they’ve put some dry beans for decoration but PLEASE mention it to the guests that it is not edible! People tend to think that everything on the plate is edible which I think is a reasonable expectation. The aloo chat was not to our liking;needed some more seasoning ( salt). Perhaps you can offer it on the table to people who want a little more of it because it is essential for the Indian inspired dishes to give the tasty punch. When you call it a chat, we expect some red onion and Sev ( fine crunchy vermicelli of gram flour) on it and not big chunks of potato with sauces. I’d like some crunch to balance the large amounts of roast potato in the dish. The chicken Kathi roll was delicious 😋. The eggplant dish was very good even without the yoghurt( my daughter cannot have dairy). The Paneer dumplings were very tasty and the sauce was good too. I’d like it with a little more salt which would have elevated the taste further. The butter chicken sauce was absolutely brilliant; but the chicken cooking was abysmal!! Hard , dry and very unpleasant! Shame because the sauce was fantastic. The cabbage was an interesting dish. We liked the concept but felt it needed another couple of spoons of the sauce for the large size of the cabbage presented( I’m not expecting the cabbage to be floating in the gravy). May be worthwhile suggesting the guests that it goes with the rice than the naan bread( thankfully my wife didn’t order her favourite naan to go with it)The pilau rice was excellent! The garlic naan however was less exciting; felt more like a flat bread with butter on it. I applaud the chef’s attempt at creating some thing new👏. However don’t go there expecting to eat typical Indian food and blame the place for not serving it because it’s is not typical fare and I respect the chef for being creative 👏. However I’ll be critical if you call something chaat, phuchka ( which normally should give an explosion of flavour in your mouth with one bite of it) and not deliver. But clearly he’s got his craft perfect when it comes to the sauces( the French way!)

As someone from South India, I can confidently say the food was far from authentic. The chicken biryani was among the most flavorless we’ve had in recent memory. Apart from the vada, the other dishes—especially the chicken and fish gravies—lacked taste and depth. We were also surprised to see coconut rice served in a Thali, which is quite unusual and suggests a lack of familiarity with traditional South Indian cuisine. To top it off, there was no rasam included. The service was excellent but food unfortunately was not appealing ,we won’t be returning, nor would we recommend this place to others. Please note that we ordered steamed rice because we could not eat the coconut rice served with the Thali meal. I have been to many restaurants in Calgary for dosa but this one makes authentic Banglore style. I was in Banglore for 2 years n in hyd for many. This dosas are proper n the sambar chutney's too are like made in Bangalore. The owner Kartikeyan takes care of each customer which you wouldn't find in other Indian restaurants. The chutney was salty for us and when they came to know, they immediately gave us a same portion which is a remarkable thing to do. Moreover he has mastered his art of cooking. But here everything is authentic. As I have spent so much time in South India we desire to have dosa, uttapam, idlis, podi idlis and here there is no this location which gives us that satisfaction. Food was awesome everything was served fresh and hot in reasonably good time. Service was fine too. Problem with this restaurant is it’s cleanliness. Place looks dated and dark which is not bad if kept clean. There was flies in main dining room, floor was dirty and it seems sofa are not clean and shampooed in years. Place was busy throughout our short stay there with in dining and take sways. I wish there was a way to give no stars at all. This used to my go-to place for kababs but they not only lost my business but all respect. We grabbed a takeout on Sunday, my partner found a big piece of glass while eating one of the 4 beef kababs at home on Tuesday. I called the restaurant to notify them. I didn’t ask for any refund which was $23 and some change, wasn’t upset but needed them to be aware. The answer I got was “You bought on Sunday, why are you telling us on Tuesday.” “it’s not possible for a piece of glass to be in our kababs and I can send you a video of how our kababs are made.” That was their response!!! Really now??? It’s not the response I had expected. I wasn't even sure if I was allowed to dine in but they do . It felt like I was sitting in the main lobby to the restaurant near the fountain. Overall the place seems a little bit old and outdated and it looks like there are a lot of mismatched decor and furniture items. Kind of felt like I was in a Mexican restaurant with the color schemes anyway but in fact this isn't a Pakistani Indian restaurant with a fairly decent menu selection and good prices. I order butter chicken which was served what looked like an Italian white stone lasagna or pasta dish that you you would bake in the oven. I don't know why but I was kind of hoping my dish would have been served in one of those round copper style Indian pots. Anyways The taste was fairly good a little bit on the spicy side for me but I enjoyed my meal. The naaan bread was cooked nicely it was soft and fluffy on top and not overly greasy and had a nice light crisp on the side that they cook it in the tandoor. There there are two or three different rooms but can accommodate large gatherings. I have posted several pictures from my recent visit here.

Now it is Pakistani food so all the meats here are Halal. It is quite elegantly decorated in here and sets the tone for a great meal. The meal was Beef Curry, Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani, and a BBQ platter with Butter Naan on the side. The Beef Curry was very good and brought out the beef exceptionally well. The Butter Chicken was a classic however slightly smaller chicken chunks would have been nicer. The Chicken Biryani was okay but sometimes the rice goes so well as a mix with other items. In that regards, the Currys plus the Biryani was excellent together. The BBQ Platter was good but not my thing, I would recommend staying to the Currys and Dishes where you get to see flavours shine. Overall would definitely go back and can't wait to try the other dishes.

As visible, the restaurant is replying to every full star review but failed to acknowledge mine. Horrible experience at MIRCHI RESTAURANT. I always try to support Pakistani restaurants and never post negative reviews anywhere but after 3 phone calls to restaurant and their failure to resolve I finally decided to post this review. My husband ordered 4 paratha roll and biryani for takeaway yesterday. When he reached home, we realized none of them were paratha rolls. All were burnt naan rolls filled with cucumber and lettuce. They charged 14.99 per roll by the way (expensive than many other Pakistani restaurants). The naan were extremely soggy and dripping with water/juice of vegetables. The biryani was stale and hundered percent older and reheated. We had guests over who refused to touch the food and we had to get food again which was really embarrassing for us. Mind you our total was $76.56 which is not a small amount. I called the restaurant and told them what happened, the woman on the other line put me on hold and came back and told me there is a new girl in kitchen and she didnt know how to make the rolls. I said I am more than happy to return all the items as it’s better than throwing away since no one will eat them as we had to order food from another restaurant. She said not to come back as she cant process refund because the owner isn’t here. She took my name and number and said the owner will call me when he is back. In the evening I got the call from a person who I assumed was the owner but turned out it was someone else. I repeated everything with him again and he said the biryani is made fresh everyday so thats not possible (i checked the one star reviews on google today and there are alot of complaints of them serving older reheated food). At this point, I said to him again that I am more than happy to give all of this back as no one touched the food for the fear of getting sick. I have to drive almost 30 minutes to get there from my place but he said not to worry, he will get me in touch with the owner instead and put me on hold. The owner never picked and the same man spoke to me after I was on hold waiting for the owner, he told me owner is busy but he cant refund me from the system without physical card but can e transfer me by tonight. Well its the second day I got no refund and the worst part is when I called the restaurant today, they told me the person I spoke to isn’t here and to call back at 6pm. (At this point I had spoken to 3 different staff members but never the owner - already have wasted hours). I told them to ask him to call me because I am really tired now of going back and forth. He never called back or sent an e-transfer. I am not even sure he noted the right email yesterday because he never repeated the email and said bye. Honestly, I could have easily filed a charge back from my credit card and posted this review but I did not want to hurt or defame a fellow Pakistani’s buisness and gave them a fair chance to fix it but this was so disappointing to see that there was no way to get a resolution for my complain. For some reason the owner is absent and everyone keeps telling me I need to talk to the owner who I could never get hold of. There is no point of supporting a Pakistani restaurant when all the staff I spoke to were non-Pakistanis. I am amazed how a Pakistani chef can ever make a roll with burnt naan filled with cucumber, lettuce in the name or paratha roll.
