My wife and I visited Jeff Ruby’s with another couple last night. They had been talking it up for a long time and we finally made reservations to go. From what they said we were expecting a great experience with even better food. Unfortunately our visit was the exact opposite. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere with good live music. However, when you’re paying the high prices at a place like that, you expect the service and food to be even better. They started with bread service which was lacking. It had an okay flavor but it was extremely hard and crunchy. I’d rank it at the bottom of bread services of similar caliber restaurants in the area. From there we got a wagyu meatball and crab cake. The crab cake was one of the only things that saved this review from a one star. It had a good flavor and a good amount of crab meat. The meatball on the other hand was overcooked and lacking in flavor. The meatballs my wife made for dinner this week with ground beef from Aldi were more flavorful than their wagyu version. We were hoping the main courses would make up for mediocre start. Wed soon find out that wouldn’t be the case. I had a barrel cut filet which was $90. At a restaurant like this, that is to be expected. I don’t have an issue paying a premium for a filet. I do have an issue when it doesn’t live up to its premium price. It was a decent steak but it wasn’t great. I’d give it one star above your local chain steakhouse. My wife ordered their roasted chicken and in her words it was awful. I wish she would have told me about it while we were still there. I would have sent it back in a heart beat. She said it was so dry she chewed for 5 minutes just to get two bites down. The sides were nothing to call home about. The truffle fries were the best side out of the three we had. The Mac and cheese was good but nothing spectacular and the Brussel sprout were lacking. They were really tough and unimpressive. Lastly the service was disappointing. You expect the service to be top tier at a place like this. Our experience was anything but. We hardly saw our sever. Luckily our servers assistant stopped by a few times. When you’re at a place like Jeff Ruby’s you hope that they have a level of service that meets their reputation and menu price. This just wasn’t the case for us. My water remained empty from the start of our main courses until after we had paid our bills. The carrot cake also helped save a 1 star review. That was delicious and a large slice that was more than enough for the table. We weren’t able to finish it all and asked our server to box it up. He brought our checks back, collected payment, then disappeared. We had to eventually flag down another server to get the box so we could leave. Over all our experience was extremely underwhelming. It’s sad because everything looked really good when it came out. We thought it was very overpriced for what the quality of the meal and service we received. They sat us in a cool red room with romantic lighting. They have a kids menu, which my daughter appreciated. She enjoyed her mac and cheese. We ordered it with asparagus and fruit. I must admit it was an underwhelming experience. I got mine Med Rare+ and he got his Med Well. His had soooo much inedible connective tissue/gristle that a lot of his Japanese and some of his Australian could not be eaten (attached picture below) I thought this to be rare with Waygu however, the manager told us that a lot of their pieces currently looked like that and the chef choose the best ones. I packaged up a lot of mine and ran into similar issue at home. The manager was probably the highlight of the dinner. She did offer to bring him out another Japanese portion but he mentioned that even that wasn’t as good as previous times we had been. I would agree, we have both tried the Australian and Japanese on prior visits, prepared the same way and tonight’s quality simply wasn’t the same. Maybe the batch of Waygu they currently have isn’t that great of quality. Overall with 4 cocktails and 2 Waygu flights after tip over bill was very expensive - which I have no issue paying as long as the quality meets the expectation. But unfortunately this past Sunday we were let down. May be hesitate to try the flight again and I really wanted to be blown away. I only come to Jeff Ruby’s for one thing Waygu! My dad and I have now both tried the Japanese A5 and Australian and both cuts are phenomenal. I will say I was absolutely blown away by the Japanese. I think next time we will try the Waygu board. The food is a la carte and not for those with menu economic restrictions. We each had bowls of lobster bisque with their house bread as an appetizer. For our entrees, I had the NY strip and my wife had the fillet. I ordered for her making hers medium served with a cold water lobster tail and a side of the black truffle bernaise. For my NY, I went medium rare served "Deans" style which include 2oz of cold water lobster claw meat, black truffle bernaise seved on a bed of Red wine reduction. I added a side of mashed Yukon Gold potatoes. These were whipped and VERY good. My dinner was exceptional and my wife said iy was the best steak she has ever had. While the prices are steep, in my experience, the food is worth every penny. This is a must hit if you enjoy great steaks.

We started off with a pour of Angel’s Envy from the bar, which really got the meal started. Our first food order was the bread service and we quickly saw why it’s a fan favorite. The bread was so soft and had just the right amount of salt on the top and paired beautifully with the whipped butter. It was delicious. I ordered the barrel cut filet, med rare, and it was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the scallops and they were delicious, as well. For sides, we got the mushrooms along with the creamed spinach. I don’t recall ever having creamed spinach with breadcrumbs and it really set itself apart and was very good. Lastly, we shared a piece of their key lime pie with toasted meringue. It was heavenly. Last, and certainly not least, the service was top notch. Patrick and Shvavan were amazing. Their attention to detail, knowledge of the menu, and just overall demeanor made this one of the most enjoyable meals we’ve had in a while.

I almost forgot the yummy dessert they provided with the homemade ice cream just topped the night off!! Just spectacular on all accounts. We are former NJ and NYers and you know we love food!! Definitely will return while we are in KY!!! Thank you for making our night so special… oh I almost forgot the guitarist and the bassist were phenomenal even played us a special song. I chose the black truffle butter to accompany the steak and it was just amazing. Cooked to perfection, seasoned perfectly. I had burbon (mid range choice im not a millionnaire) and it was great discovering local burbon in the region of Kentucky. The waiter was really good at his job. The chocolate desert you see in the pictures is made from scratch when you order it (it takes about 20 minutes to make once ordered) but it is worth it. the sauce that accompanies the cheesecake had a hint of burbon as well which was a nice touch. I could talk more but everything was good so I litterally don't have much more to say other than praises for this place. ratings should be higher. oh almost forgot. they make a fresh loaf of bread as you can see in one of the pictures. arrives hot and delicious. Main course we chose the New York strip with a side of the skillet fried potatoes (pepper gravy sauce and onions asked on the side ) and a ribeye with smashed potatoes. My wife and I showed up a little early to figure out parking and explore the hotel a bit. Parking was 9 dollars for 2:30 hours in a city parking garage opposite side of the restaurant. We were seated in a booth which was very comfy and our server Troy was amazing. The entire night he had good recommendations and took care of our every need. We had 2 drinks apiece. I had the margarita. Black rock salt was a nice touch over the normal kind and my wife had a fresh flower in her Rum Punch. Both of us commented that the drinks felt worth the $$ which rarely happens at high end places. I felt great with that purchase. I ordered the Bone in Kansas City strip which was perfectly cooked to medium. Flavor was spot on for a bone in strip and the value for money was great. My wife got the prime filet 12 Oz. She asked for medium well but sadly it came out well done. As soon as we mentioned it to Troy he recognized the same and took it back to the kitchen. The manager Alicia was very apologetic and brought the replacement out within minutes. Top top notch service as it was a busy Saturday night and a table top party of 12 and another of 10 were seated near us so I did not expect the attention and timeliness for the replacement that we got. We definitely felt underdressed in shorts and t-shirts, but the host said it was totally fine to be dressed as we were. Honestly our biggest letdown was the food. We got the Green Chili Wontons and Hotter Brown Fritters as appetizers. I ordered the Filet, the asparagus on it were mushy and overcooked. The steak was cooked correctly but very under seasoned and the bordelaise sauce felt like eating a steak from the 70's. My wife ordered the Le Moo's Beef Stroganoff and like other other dishes was okay but for $37 for the stroganoff and $55 for the filet... No thanks. We heard great things about this establishment so not sure if it was an off day (Saturday June 28th) or if their standards have just slipped.

Parking looks like it can be a hassle. Went for dinner and was sat immediately with no wait. I was asked if I had a reservation so be careful it may fill quickly on some days. My guest ordered a shrimp cocktail to start and the cocktail sauce was just way too much horse radish for both of us. Very powerful. The food, while overpriced was OK to good. We also unfortunately ran into an incident where our server spilled two full glasses of red wine on one of us.
