This is definitely the most social hostel in San Cris, with social events every night (very alcohol heavy). The hostel dinners are definitely a highlight and for only 50 pesos are a great deal (very high quality). I only give it four stars because of some of the front desk staff. At first the staff seem quite kind but they can also be very rude and aggressive. After 8 nights here, (and spending a few thousand pesos here) I changed to a different hostel for my final night in San Cris so i could have an affordable private room. I was spending time with some friends at this hostel during that day, and was aggressively spoken to by the staff because I'd checked out the prior day and the facilities were only for guests.

I’d 100% recommend this hostel to anyone wanting a fun hostel with good activities that’s not all about partying. 10/10 would recommend to any ages.

The owners are so beautiful and kind. When I first arrived in San Cris I found there to be alot of men (the hostel I stayed before historika I was the only female) so to find and all female sanctuary here with beautiful women and a safe space to stay I felt so much relief. The owners are fantastic musicians as well so it is easy to join them and their friends out in town. With a garden in the back , yoga mats, tiendas and affordable coffee near by, it is easy for this place to feel like home away from home. Incredible family lunches every day for a low price (I believe 40 pesos) really is the cherry on top of a great stay (that and the very hot showers to help you with the cooler temperatures of San Cris). We did tour to Palenqué with the hostel which I highly recommend. Our driver was first everywhere so we enjoyed waterfalls and breakfast with no people. Then as per recommendation, we (and all the people from our hostel) stayed in the jungle for the night instead of coming back to San Cristobal (super convenient and nice experience).

After seeing an option which seemed good we asked the receptionist if we can leave our bags (2 small backpack and a guitar) somewhere while we check other options for a few hours. She said yes and pointed to where we can leave our stuff. We wanted to stay there before reading the other reviews here about the owner's behavior which scared us. When we got back, our bags weren't where we left them. The same receptionist said the owner got back and told her to move them away and charge us for storage. Our bags were kept hostage to force us pay the arbitrary amount he decided on! This has NEVER happened to me anywhere in many years of travels! We still considered to stay but wanted to talk directly to the owner for a couple of minutes to feel the vibe as we did plan a monthly stay. He refused to talk to us, not even coming to say hello. We decided we won't stay there and paid the extortion fee as we preferred not to start a fight when our bags were held hostage out of sight. The bathroom also seemed like it wasn't cleaned daily, which is kind of off putting when you're sharing it with others. I was given a towel but it was tiny, more of a bath mat, and it seemed like the hot water ran out quickly. The kitchen was locked at 10 pm, meaning I had to get my stored food and water before then. I did appreciate the 24 hour access and the baggage storage. Wifi also pretty good. All in all, I'm not sorry I stayed here but I'm finishing my week in san cristobal at another place of lodging.

Very reasonable prices considering how well kept and nice the place is as a whole. The building itself is a very tastefully decorated colonial building with attractive architectural features. This place is overpriced. They had the nastiest attitude when we asked someone where we could get coffee in the morning. Door mechanism is actually kinda loud. While we are on the topic of tiles, most were a dark greeny brown colour except for the random red tiles that look like they put in when the others broke and they couldn't colour match it so didn't even try. The breakfast was poor and the staff not overly friendly. I would not stay here again.

Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The location was good, the courtyard setting was beautiful and the room was nice but the noise really spoiled our stay. We paid extra for a bigger room but it was directly next to the pool meaning that we had constant noise from the pool filter and people in the pool. The rooms are all based around the courtyard which means noise all day and night. There were people in the pool after hours, sat in the courtyard talking loudly and I was even woken up at 3am by staff talking in the courtyard. It's a beautiful setting but, if you value your sleep, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
