This ramen spot is tucked away at the edge of Chinatown. They had delicious ramen and small dishes. The portion is generous and they even had white sesame grinder, fried garlic and Japanese spicy powder as condiments.
We ordered the signature ramen and black sesame ramen(this is extra big). Both were flavorful, had various toppings, made to order and reasonably priced(~$15 per regular ramen)
The seats were almost filled within 30 minutes of opening on a Friday so I would say expect some wait. Will definitely revisit when visiting Philly again!

Been here twice, the food and smoothies are really good . However the service is not the best towards the end. I had the same server twice and both time she has guilt tripped me and friends into tipping. First time she said “ no tip? Are you gonna tip? Did i do something wrong?I dont get a salary so if you cant pay cash you can pay card” didnt even give me the chance to tip but i ended up giving her $5. Second time which was today, she said “ i circled the tip, are you gonna tip? I don’t get salary, i know you from last time you dont tip, next time get your food to go” . Mind you i was putting my nephew in his stroller and hadnt pulled out my wallet yet. highly disrespectful and disgusting especially since she brought me out the wrong food this time and STILL expected a tip. Not the first person shes done this to and wont be the last. I will be contacting the manager.

Came here for a birthday, and we were totally blown away by the omakase experience. All the servers were amazingly friendly and knowledgeable, and the courses were brought out with great timing. We sat at the counter and enjoyed in depth descriptions of our food from the chef himself.

Our entire group had the Omakase. Highlights were the Toro Tartare and the A5 Strip. The A5 was outrageously flavorful, more than any other meat I have had. The only time I had any beef that was comparable was the last time I had the Omakase at this same location. Service was a little slow. We had such a great dinner at Morimoto. We started with the hot stone Wagyu — it was incredible. The beef practically melted in your mouth, and cooking it on the hot stone right at our table made it such a fun experience.
We also ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice — so good! The tuna was fresh and had just the right amount of heat, perfectly balanced with the crispy rice.
My husband had a Japanese beer and my 11-year-old son got a mocktail called the Mandarin Ginger, which he said was really tasty.
For our main entrée, we got the crab fried rice with the broth on the side (which we were glad we did, since the broth was pretty spicy). The rice came out piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and packed with generous chunks of king crab. The broth had some imitation crab, and overall, the dish was delicious.
We also tried three sushi rolls — shrimp tempura, California, and eel & avocado. The shrimp tempura roll was nice and crispy, though it came with green beans, which we didn’t love. The California roll was honestly one of the best we’ve ever had — made with real crab and plenty of it — and the eel and avocado roll was excellent too.
For dessert, we got the fiery flourless chocolate cake. The presentation was amazing — they pour flaming rum over a chocolate dome, which melts to reveal a hidden layer of miso caramel ice cream. Underneath was rich chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, caramelized bananas, and a crunchy graham cracker crust. It was delicious!
The restaurant itself is beautiful, with lighting that changes colors throughout the meal. Service was friendly, professional, and attentive.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Morimoto and would highly recommend it!

This place was exceptional. We got so many things from this place it's hard to keep count. We got quite a bit of champagne which was delicious. We got jalapeno yellow, wagyu beef on the hot stone, tuna tartar, beef tartar, miso soup, sashimi platter and much more. Everything was amazing and the scenery was fantastic. One of the best Bao Buns I think I’ve ever had. I know everyone gets the ramen here, rightfully so, but I went with the Chicken Katsu with curry and ohhhh man it was sooooo good. I wish it came on a flat plate though it’s a little difficult to get to the rice but sooo delicious. This place is definitely a must try Japanese food place.
We came as a group of 6 people for Saturday lunch, and it wasn’t crowded so we got seated right away. I love the cozy vibe of the restaurant and the Japanese mask decorations were really cute.
I got a Shrimp buns and it was amazing. My friends got other buns and a Nom Nom Ramen, and they all said that their orders tasted amazing. The price was standard, not expensive. But the thing that made me remember about the restaurant the most was the service. The owner gave us free fried shrimp!! How nice of him. The waiter was friendly as well.
It was an authentic taste of Japanese food. Would love to come back and try more dishes!!

I had an early dinner with my daughter and my wife tonight at Tomo. The food was amazing the broth of my pork belly ramen was delicate and flavorful, the green tea was dynamite if your a green tea fan, and I also had the red dragon roll from the specialty menu and it was great. This restaurant was on my list of places to try and it was worth the wait. They have options for mixed diets. I’m vegan and my friend isn’t.
Had a little mishap with which door to go in for the sit down restaurant. There were people eating at tables on the side that was apparently designated for take out. It took a while for someone to come and acknowledge us to tell us to go to the other door to see the hostess to dine in.
Once we got to the other side we were seated promptly and the service was great. I ordered the avocado salad, veggie on fire and harvest rolls. My friend ordered the spicy tuna and rainbow rolls.
The food was delicious! I tore that avocado salad up. The rolls were yummy and filling. We both took some to go and ate them the next day. The rolls kept just fine.
I will definitely be back and now know which door to go to.

A good neighborhood spot; we were able to do a walk in! The specialty rolls section is definitely the place to go! Sushi came out super quick! Very tasty sushi, the rice and fish were both fresh! The garlic ramen was wicked tasty, they had asked if I wanted spicy and I said yes, but it wasn’t very spicy, would have preferred them to give me chili oil so that I could have dosed it myself. Unfortunately, the server was no where to be found when I was eating the ramen and wanting more chili oil; nonetheless, the broth was incredibly savory, the noodles were perfectly thin and a heavy portion! The egg was perhaps a bit overcooked, but otherwise went well with the dish! Great spot to visit and seems like they do quite a bit of take out as well!

Came here with a group of friends for an annual reunion dinner. The food was pretty good, but the cleanliness of the tables was questionable. Our four tables all had a thick sticky film that practically glued our glasses to the table. When we saw the staff cleaning the outdoor tables, they simply used a rag with no cleaning solution whatsoever and wiped it down. These same rags were also used on the indoor tables. My wife and I ordered the chicken ramen, tonkatsu ramen, spider roll and the lime sinko roll. The highlight of the meal was actually the lime sinko roll. Fun little spot that is good for a party of 1-4.
Staff were exceptionally nice and very courteous, but it was busy so service was a little slower than some sushi spots, I found it to be a comfortable pace to relax and really enjoy our meal without feeling rushed.
Ordered a single of the saba sashimi +two sashimi for one (the regular size, not deluxe) which was decent. The portion we received for the price was very fair and better than some of the neighboring locations. The fish felt fresh, and most had a good texture. I noticed that most of the grouping of my fish were still connected at their corners like the chef didn’t slice all the way through to their ends but I was able to carefully pry them apart with my chopsticks. The salmon we received was chilled so hard, a couple degrees more and it may be solid, which detracted from its texture and made it rather flavorless. The seasoning liquids they use for their firmer fish are quite lovely, subtle, with slight tang and freshness to contrast the salty sea flavor.
The interior is decorated with a lot of bright wood accents and soft, warm lighting. I saw some tables with BYOB glasses filled with wine, champagne, and a small group enjoying Asahi beers they brought. Other diners like myself drank from the nonalcoholic menu with delight too
Oh! And the house dressing for the salad here rocks. A nice balance between the sweetness, warm ginger, sesame, and other flavors. It’s not too overpowering where it lingers in your mouth too long.
We are glad we made reservations. It looks like the wait was short, but on a busy and warm Sunday night there’s not much room to wait outside in old city!

It has been so long since I had ramen this good. The chef took real care of preparing each ingredient to the dish. The pork melted in your mouth and the egg was perfectly cooked so that the yolk melted in to the broth. To top it all off they had Calpico which was one of my favorite sodas from when I lived in Okinawa. Everything was amazing.

The green tea was so flavorful and freshly made! Me and wife favorite part of everything we had was the mini rice bowl. The rice was sticky and sweet with this flavor we couldn't even explain the taste but it was soooo good. One thing we did appreciate is they put our chicken on the side on plates instead of adding them in the ramen so it don't get soggy and it gave you options if you wanted to eat them separate with the BBQ sauce. Only thing we had a issue with this place was the parking unfortunately it's not the best at all besides that we had a great time definitely recommend!

Nice little ramen shop. Interestingly I was thinking of getting sushi, searched on Google and this place popped up. No sushi to be found on the menu when I arrived though.
Arrived on a quiet Sunday night, and ordered the signature Ramen, the chashu Don, and chicken karrage.
The chicken karrage was fresh and delicious, but it was $10 so I certainly wonder if it was worth the price.
The ramen, as warned by some other reviewers, was quite bland, despite having two chilli peppers on the menu, it was not spicy at all, though I’m not complaining about that given my low spice tolerance. The broth was simply lacking in depth and I had to add salt to enhance it, though it ended up being too salty afterwards. It also doesn’t help that I had Ichiran in Manhattan the day before so it was clearly a deviation in quality. Though Ichiran was double the price of this.
The pork and eggs in the ramen were wonderful however, tender, sweet, and full of flavor. This applies for the chashu don as well, because of the tenderness and flavor of the meat, it is top notch and I certainly would return/order again for the don but not the ramen.

We ordered a bunch of different items, takoyaki, karage chicken bowl, signature ramen, curry mini rice bowl and tan tan ramen.
Takoyaki was solid, hit the spot and exactly what I want in a takoyaki. The karage chicken was crunchy and we enjoyed the sauce that came with it. The chashu in signature ramen is to die for, sooo tender (maybe just lacking a bit of flavor?) and the soft boiled eggs were perfect. I would say the biggest thing missing in the ramen is that I felt it was missing the usual richness that you get with a good ramen bowl. The broth felt a bit thin for ramen. The mini curry rice bowl was also good, but I think the curry was also a tiny bit lacking flavor - maybe I should have added more salt.
Overall would still dine here for a ramen craving but don't expect the best ramen you've ever had here.

This place was amazing.
Came by for lunch and the place was empty. We were greeted by a friendly wait staff who told us we could sit anywhere.
The decor and ambience was very appealing. The paintings of Japan on the wall were nice visuals. Had to use the restroom and I typically never use a public restroom because most are not clean. This bathroom on the other hand was sparkling clean, with an oscillating fan, an air wick spray and everything was fully stocked.
I had the fried crab dumpling, edamame and a mango creamy soda. Everything came out relatively quick, no much waiting done and you can see right into the kitchen from the dining area. My crab dumplings were nice and hot and crispy, the edamame was fine. The soda was different but I really liked the taste of it. I didn’t get much of a creamy taste just tasted like a mango soda.
Face mask aren’t required and staff is not wearing any mask.

The salmon roll is $10 at time of writing, slightly more expensive than nearby alternatives but seems to be expertly prepared.
The braised pork belly buns are delicious and come with thick slabs of pork meat.

The cha shu ramen itself is slightly spicy and includes a sliced slab of corn which is an interesting choice, at first glance, it seems a bit like instant ramen but upon tasing the noodles are certainly higher quality than that of instant ramen. The eggs are hard boiled and reminiscent of soy sauced braised salty tea eggs, the broth is flavorful but nothing too special and the same can be said for the cha shu pork pieces. Overall 4/5. The ramen passable but the sushi is the main highlight of this place.

Fabulous ramen, super well done and very very quick.
We ordered the Gates of Hell, the Black Pig, and the Porfilio ramen bowls, and an order of Karaage. Ramen was $13 each and $9 for karaage. Dinner for 3 at $60 including tip is a good value in my opinion. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the pork belly chashiu was so tender it was falling apart! I had the black pig which was phenomenal with lots of black garlic oil. I added togarashi for slightly more spice. They also have a spice bomb option for any type of ramen they offer. I thought the Porfilio broth tasted too strongly of corn since it has corn in it, but I’m also very sensitive/picky. Server was friendly and the service was super fast. Ambience is nice too.
They are cash only which is an important note. Not an issue for us but nowadays many people do not carry cash. ATM was nearby however as we overheard the neighboring table did not realize it was cash only until time to pay the bill.
Also the server (maybe owner?) mentioned they close early some nights since the pandemic since they are less busy. He said to call ahead to ensure they are open (it says open til 10pm online but they closed the kitchen by 8:30 when we were there). They also offer takeaway and BYOB, plus they have a veggie ramen option!

Aki Nom Nom is hands down the best sushi I’ve found in Philly. I did the all-you-can-eat sushi for $34 and definitely got my money’s worth — everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. My old review of this place was very favorable but as time goes by I revisit and update reviews. Lately I have been very dissatisfied with CheU, at first it was nothing worth updating a review over but yesterday did it. The brisket was very firm and dry, it did nothing for the ramen. This is a first and I was pretty disappointed as I had been craving ramen all week and passed on a chance to try Morimotos tonkotsu ramen which was obviously a mistake. Ultimately what did it was simply that my GF found a hair in her drink and the waitress did nothing but get her a new glass. I get planting hairs is an old trick and I'm not expecting a free meal but comping one of the small plates or throwing in something may have helped. I've eaten here dozens of times and I can say this was the last. Really disappointed.

Today I tried the spicy chicken rice bowl. It was at a great price point of $10 and the serving size made me feel like I got my money's worth.
The bowl itself featured two broccoli florets with a serving of rice and spicy chicken. The chicken is quite spicy and the flavor reminds me of gochujang. Cooked to order the chicken was succulent and flavor was on point.

My personal favorite spot in University City, this vibey little restaurant is tucked away in a hidden corner of Philly. I passed by several times without realizing it was there, I only found it on accident with Google Maps and my partner just happened to be in the mood for Korean food.
The food has been fantastic everytime I've been, I personally suggest the chicken with mayo on rice or the spicy pork bowl. I always seem to be craving this place once a week, and so does my girlfriend.
The owner and employees are by far some of the nicest people I've been served by, everytime they see us coming to the door they rush out to open it for us. Give it a couple more months, and I may be able to start saying "I want the usual"
My only complaint, and it's not a serious one just a jest, is that more people seem to have found this place. I remember when it was just us two coming in every so often, but now I get to complain that the city folk have heard of the place.
Genuinely, I always suggest this place to friends in family when they're in the area, I've had several outings with them here; sometimes if family helps us we pay them with food from this place.

My daughter requested we eat here for her birthday. The atmosphere is enjoyable. The restaurant is clean and well taken care of. Takoyaki and pork buns were cooked well and delicious. Just your average sushi and Japanese restaurant, nothing really stood out to me. The food was fine overall, but nothing memorable. The fish in the sushi didn’t seem the freshest, though it was still passable for a casual meal. Service was okay too, not bad, but nothing that made the experience feel special. If you’re looking for a quick and simple sushi fix and you're in Chinatown, this place is fine, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

The cutesttttttt underground restaurant I’ve been to in Philly that reminds me of New York. The aesthetics reminds me of a diner from the 90’s with LED lights on the wall. Just to inform you, if you go on the weekend DEFINITELY make a reservations just in case. We went to chika ramen bar on a Saturday but that was the day of Billie Eillish’s concert and the Phillies game so it wasn’t that pack but before we entered they did asked us if we had a reservations. The 2 seater table was cute but not very much spacious for my boyfriend and I because we ordered so much food hehe. They gave us time in between our appetizers and entrees to give us space on the table. I started off with a deckard cocktail and it was fruity but wasn’t strong which I like. I also loved the foamy top of the drink. We then ordered the tuna tataki, hamachi crudo, and spicy tuna rice crisps. Omgggg I can eat these 3 appetizers everytimeeeee. The raw fish was not really cold as I hoped it would be but it wasn’t warm, almost room temp. That kind of stood out to me but I didn’t get sick after so that was a good sign. The tuna crispy was deliciousssssss, the texture and the taste combined was everything plus some. For our entrees, we ordered the spicy chicken miso ramen and it was good as well I actually liked the broth and everything that was in it. We also ordered the poke-mon bowl… it was sooo good it was like a mixture of everything in a bowl. The flavors combined were delicious and it was definitely fulfilling. As a dessert, I decided to have the nexus-six and I’m sorry but it was disgusting. The cold foam was good but the espresso was absolutely disgusting. For 15$, the drink was super tiny, I should’ve just ordered another deckard. Other than that everything else was amazing.

We've been meaning to get around to this Blade Runner inspired ramen restaurant, and we finally went on a Saturday night and got seated immediately. The servers were very nice and everything came out quickly. I thought the cocktails were just okay. The Bang Shrimp appetizer had a nice spicy kick to it, so I kept eating them even when my ramen showed up. The ramen itself was very good and hit the spot, although I don't know that it's better than other ramen places I've been. The space is a novelty and very cool; love that it's underground and neon.

After waiting for all the hype of a new restaurant to subside, there was finally no long line to get inside. Service was exceptionally great (thanks to Charlie ) the decor is pretty dope 👍🏾👍🏾the food was delicious. My guest and I ordered the spicy chicken miso soup, the Tonkotsu Ramen w/ a marinated boiled egg, hand roll set A (tuna, salmon, yellowtail), sumo wings, and the tuna tataki. 🍜Overall, the food was *good* - 3.5⭐️. Ramen and hand rolls were average. Spicy tuna crisps were dry and not our favorite.

The vibe was cool but the place was over hyped. Waited 30-45 minutes outside which we didn’t mind since it was nice out, but not worth the wait.
The service was prompt even though our meals came before appetizers and we were midway through when our final appetizer came. We got the traditional flavor and kara kara flavor. The char siu was cut thick and you’re given a decent portion, however it was chewy and tough to bite into. We’re used to it melting in your mouth. Mine also had a medium sized piece of fat floating around. The noodles were fine, a little chewy. The egg was hard boiled instead of soft boiled and the broth tasted average. I asked for spice 2 and it tasted like they just added chili oil to make it spicier. The bang shrimp app was probably the best part. The buns were meh, they used a wasabi sauce instead of an eel or hoisin sauce and the meat seemed fried maybe? But also a little on the dry side. The drinks were fine but I can’t say they were anything special.
With all the ramen places in the city this is the last place to go. There is also a discount if you pay cash vs card.

We went on a Thursday night. Waited outside for a table of 2 for about 30 minutes. It's a new place and popular so go early or after 9pm. There is no reservation, first come first served. We sat at the bar which was super cool!
That said we had an amazing time! I love ramen and I was very satisfied with theirs! It was more flavorful than many other restaurants. The Kara Kara Ramen was great - go for more spice it's worth it. My partner had incredible Shoyu Chashumen. Get extra egg and pickled ginger!
The Blade Runner atmosphere is cool and definitely a draw. Good selection of Japanese drinks. Bartenders Talia and Dave were awesome. We will definitely be going back!

Went on a rainy day and the vibes were immaculate for an intimate date night. The espresso martini was very delicious and i considered getting a couple. The pork bun was slightly dry but the wasabi sauce saved the dish. As for the ramen, it’s top tier and I can’t wait to try all of the different bowls. Got the pleasure of visiting two days after the grand opening here. I waited in line (as anticipated) but it moved super quickly, the staff was clearly doing their best to efficiently get people in and out and definitely succeeded. The ambience inside was amazing, super cute layout, designs, seating and bar. We sat at the bar and had SUPERB service from Nick and Dave. They were busy but didn’t skip a beat to give us the best experience. The drinks from Nick were amazing we got the Roy Batty and More than human, very unique cool names and delicious with Japanese liquor and liqueurs implemented in a beautiful way. Loved the ice too, everything crafted to perfection down to the detail. For food we tried the gyoza, it was pretty tasty and crispy, the sumo wings were also very crispy and fried well but wish there was a sauce or more seasoning. The tori karaage was good though. I had the Kara Kara tonkotsu, the flavors were really nice, lots of star anise and ginger notes were very potent. I had spicy level 5/5 and honestly could’ve taken a lot more heat. I added the marinated egg and it didn’t have a soft inside unfortunately and wasn’t marinated long as it was still white and hard on the inside. Food could definitely be improved on but they’re still two days in so overall I really loved the experience!

Came here with family and was not disappointed! I got the popcorn chicken and was very pleased with how well the portions are and how fresh both the meat and vegetables were. I also recommend their fries, as I stole some from an individual at my table and was very impressed!
The building itself has a lot to look at along with its interesting style of the church pew style of seating; there appears to be different areas for large groups so I would assume they’re good with seating arrangements!

The fact it used to be a bank and church drew us here. The atmosphere was very cool and laid back. It was very busy, but we were seated as soon as we arrived. Our server was great, didn't catch his name, but he had an old school Zelda shirt on. The food was top notch. I had a patty melt. The husband had a grilled cheese. Our sons both had Cesar salads and our daughter ordered the bucket of chicken which came with fries and coleslaw. My husband also ordered a spiked palmer and our daughter a mock mule. I came in for a science on tap talk about insect acoustics and I was not disappointed by the bar or the talk!!! First of all it’s amazing that places host these because they are so fun, and a lighter atmosphere makes it so much more enjoyable to hear presentations. Second, the talk happened to coincide with National Mechanics happy hour which is great!
1/2 off draft pints, $5 draft cocktail, and more great prices. The staff was kind despite a massive flow of people ordering drinks and food.

I had a craving for a pretzel! While not made in-house, and lacking the amount of appropriate salt. I felt, the pretzel is still very good! And alcohol cheese sauce? That’s right. They mix a lager with American cheese to make the dipping sauce for the pretzels.

I come here often and it has never disappointed. I will often get the steak ramen, rayaki fries, bacon wrapped shrimp, chicken katsu bao down, and the chicken curry. I love going to Maido! I always get as many onigiri (rice calls wrapped in seaweed) as I can! Then I enjoy an amazing lunch at the restaurant side - usually okonomiyaki (my mom called it "Japanese pizza"!) or yakisoba (fried noodles). The lunch is always enjoyed with a complimentary glass of mugicha (barley tea). Then we end the visit with a trip through the grocery store part of Maido! We get snacks, frozen foods, drinks, and an assortment of Japanese ingredients. It's always a super fun way to spend some time with family & friends! We also enjoy getting our special osechi ryori (special Japanese New Year's Day foods). It's an annual tradition. Maido! is awesome, and I love the Totoro statue out front! 🙂

I’m very impressed. Among all the ramen restaurants I went to @Ramen is the best of the best. I ordered Tipple Truffle Mushroom Ramen. All other restaurants were always super salty however @Ramen was different. It was just right and the broth was extremely flavorful. Loved it. My wife ordered Kagoshima Ramen and she loved it as well. I think it’s worth coming back again. My wife wants to try Spicy Katsu Ramen next time. I agree with the other reviews that the food is just meh. Chicken Karaage being too crispy and hard with little meat. For ramen, the soup has no depth in flavor - taste bland and fake umami - the noodles didn’t taste fresh either. The pork curtlet batter falling off the meat, meat is too fatty and chewy. BUT the servers are really really nice. One star for food, four stars for service = 2.5 star on average. Rounding up to three. Hope they make more effort in making food better. Until then will not be returning.

We picked up a variety of their takeout tempura and sushi dishes for a summer family dinner. Everything was fresh, high quality and delicious! Loved that the boneless chicken tempura was created in a spear style for easy eating. The entrees included miso soup or salad plus rice. Hands down the best ramen I’ve had! I’ve been on the search for ramen that compares to the ones in Japan and this was definitely a great find. I’ve tried many ramen restaurants in NYC but none of them compare. I was really missing good Japanese ramen and this definitely satisfied my craving. I had the Akamaru Modem ramen and it surprised me so much how good it was. My friend had the Shabu Shabu beef ramen; I didn’t really like that one but the one I got was spectacular. The price is very fair and the restaurant is really pretty on the inside. The service is also great! I highly recommend this place and the Akamaru Modem ramen and Hakata ramen. Also, I had asked for no chasiu pork for the akamaru modem ramen because I was pescatarian at the time, and they asked if I wanted to replace it with tofu; so accommodating! Overall great experience :)))

Parking: we walked from our hotel, ~1 mile. There's parking on the street but it's tight. There are probably parking lots around too.
Party size: 17 (6 kids)
Environment/ambience: small, no TVs. Restroom was small, relatively clean. There's less than 10 tables inside; they put a couple together for us to accommodate us. It was relatively busy but with smaller parties.
Service: was a little slow; it's a smaller restaurant but they accommodated us, which was awesome. I saw 4 employees so I don't think they're equipped to handle large parties. They forgot a couple orders but they corrected it. They also offered us a couple free appetizers.
Food: I had the Akamaru Modern Ramen, which was pretty good. It's a little spicy. The broth was good too. There no alcohol but you can get some at the liquor down the street and bring it in.

I should have listened to all the other reviews just had a similar experience to me. We tried this place for you, so you can walk on and have a great meal somewhere else for less. There are other similar Japanese and Asian restaurants in Philly and in The Drexel / UPenn area that are better and less expensive.
Started off underwhelmingly when my green tea was served in a cup 3/4 full with water and with a tea bag hanging off the side. For a place that is decorated like a fine restaurant I expected a small pot with loose green. See for example Nom Nom Ramen.
Went from underwhelmed to underfed. Ordered the $7 duck bun for an appetizer. Was very surprised to receive just one. It looked lost on the small plate, like it was missing its other half. I expected two. The duck was chewy, and the hoisin sauce had no taste.
The last course was okay. I finished w the small, $11, bowl of chicken ramen. ($17 for the large.) It was pretty good but not great. The saltiness overpowered what otherwise might have been a flavorful broth, and the chicken was slightly undercooked.
The service was fine and what I'd expect from a slightly upscale place.
Total before tip $19.
All in all you can get a much better Asian meal nearby, in equally nice surroundings, for a lower price.

I went for happy hour and sat on the terrace. The terrace has no view because it is blocked by huge plants. The food was okay with good presentation, drinks were not that good (we ordered all of the cocktails and all of the hai drinks<-- the 3 drinks at the bottom of the menu), but a plus is that the happy hour prices were favorable. The issue is the service. Literally some of the worst service I have experienced. Our waiter disappeared for almost 30min. We had to flag him down whenever we wanted something. We ordered drinks that took over 40min to get to us. By the time we received them, the ice had melted and watered them down. Completely disorganized. We heard conversations between other tables and the staff about receiving food they already received and other food they didn't order. Our waiter never checked on us.

I come here a lot because I know the owners really take care in everything from the food prep, to the wine list, to selecting great sake. Every time I've gone, I've experienced nothing short of excellent sushi, and quality service. And it goes without saying that the owners have done an excellent job recreating the feel of a true sushi/sashimi bar from Tokyo. I feel obligated to leave this review even though ESO ramen is leaving soon. It will be a sad day for Philly food scene as I know there is no other ramen spot that comes even close to this gem. Coming here every Saturday with my brother has been a ritual and something we both look forward to during the week. We both enjoy ramen but ESO ramen is next level. I honestly would suggest any ramen chef to please come have their ramen so they can up their game. The bowl is an absolute masterpiece, and it will truly be missed once they are gone.

This place is doing 'a couple' final pop up before moving to Japan (check their ig for more info). The pop up place is super tiny with only 6 seats, so you can expect there would be a line. We arrived about 15m or so after they opened and there was already a decent line that we had to wait 30-45m to be seated. I would say the ramen is good overall. I like their meat the most - it is super tender. The broth is well-seasoned but doesn't stand out much too me. The noodle has that good chewy texture. We also ordered ajihen (not pictured), a small sauce cup of spicy ground meat, and the flavor is very good. But they gave us toward the end when we were already pretty full and have finished almost everything in our bowl. I would come back if I don't have to wait.

My wife and I visited Japan in April of 2024 and were lucky to experience a wide variety of ramen bowls. Some fishy in silent environments, others centered around pork in lively environments. What ESO has accomplished in a small unassuming 6-seat shop off South Street is remarkable. Chef is constantly tweaking the recipe, never veering too far from the flavorful, filling, immaculate bowl you will enjoy when you visit. The best noodles made in house are the glue and among the best I’ve ever tried. The spicy ajihen you can choose to add mid-way through your meal changes the entire flavor profile in an incredibly unique way. This is the best bowl of soup in the city and ramen lovers and people who have never tried ramen alike should make it a point to visit the shop before it’s too late.

I admire the dedication and passionate the chef has on the ramen, it is the best ramen in Philly but you can find a lot more better ramen in LA. I feel that the owners can be more flexible on services, I also ordered the ajihen, it came quite late, by the time it came, I almost finished all the noodle, the lady told me no, so I had to eat the salty beef without noodle. Overall, it was very good experience, but need to think twice whether to go back again.
