We contacted the tea rooms prior to visiting to see if we could change the sandwich option and they were very highly accommodating as the chef makes the sandwiches fresh - can remove and add anything to the sandwiches. The food was delicious! We ordered the chicken and stuffing, ham and roasted veg sandwiches. It also consisted of two scones (cranberry and white chocolate for my boyfriend and a plain one for me), two gingerbread men, chocolate fudge and two mini mince pies. We were both stuffed and still had a cake slice each to choose from the counter!! We were able to get more hot water for our two pots of tea which is great for a cold day ☺️ The waiter was very friendly and polite - explained the menu very well and was happy to answer any questions. I stopped in for brunch and was thoroughly impressed – the food, atmosphere, and service were all spot on. I told the staff member the number, went back to the table and decided to change the table number. On doing this and I'm not sure if it is customary, but I was told I had to pay up front quite rudely. 10 minutes later a staff member placed a tray with pots of tea, cups and saucers and didn't set the table, they just left it there for us to set up. The afternoon tea itself was great, a credit to the chef. I would of given the experience 5 stars but the front of house staff gave lousy service, so I took 3 stars off this sitting. I gave 1 star back after the girl who brought us our afternoon tea gave us excellent customer service. Afternoon tea food 5 stars. Front of house service 2 stars.

So if you or someone from your group can’t walk upstairs, or you have a buggy, wheelchair etc this likely isn’t going to be a good place to stay as i doubt it’ll be fixed anytime soon. The floors in the hallways are very creaky, but the walls are thick enough that it’s not too much of an issue. There was also a strong smell of mold and urine around the hotel and in our room. We had a standard room which was relatively small which is fine, but only had one small window which didn't even have a handle to open?? View from the window was run down buildings and trash. No way of charging things next to the bed either which was a bit of a shame. Both our key cards ending up breaking by the second night and had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to get new ones. The staff are very friendly though, and none of this is negativity towards them. The building itself has a very beautiful interior and exterior design. All in all, if you just need a safe place to sleep but not spend much time in the room, this would be a good choice. But if you actually need a lift to stay here, or would like to stay in the room during the day, i wouldn’t personally reccomend this hotel.

The staff on the front desk were very welcoming and the family room was like a palace - with two separate rooms in it: one with a superking bed and the other also very spacious with twins. We were not expecting so much space so were pleasantly surprised! The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic, central location, right in front of the castle and a stone's throw away from the start of the high street. Very close to the university campus also, so perfect location for the Cardiff Uni open day. Using the JustPark app, we planned ahead and booked parking in advance on Greyfriars Road which worked well for us, as we were travelling light. This was just a 3-minute walk away. Sadly we didn't get to trial the bar or food as we headed out for the evening (can recommend Pilgrim Pizza nearby!). The only negative was that our room on the top floor was far too warm, but this was mitigated by two fans placed in the rooms, and we opened the windows and turned the radiators down, which helped somewhat (we were visiting on a mild October day). All in all, an excellent stay. We definitely plan to return when we are next in Cardiff. This is a great hotel.

Spotlessly clean and considering that this hotel is centuries old one can forgive the odd crack here and there. My suite overlooking Westgate St with a hindered view by scaffolding was Spotlessly clean, with a very basic personal hygiene selection in the bathroom. Unfortunately the tv in the bedroom reception and remote was awful. The bed was very spacious and comfy. Breakfast Waiting several minutes by the sign to be seated, gave up took my own seat in a restaurant with less than a handful of people. The cooled Breakfast option was hugely disappointing, the food was either cooked too early or the heat lamps are too hot, apart from the beans mushrooms most were inedible. The other option was A cold meat, a group of cheese slices, bowls of spoon your own yoghurt and cereal packets. The restaurant was clean and a member of staff was pleasant. If they had a fresher Breakfast experience, it would make a big difference.

We waited an hour before we recieved our food. Our starter was brought in a lovely serving tin, but we had to ask for plates to eat. With anticipation and joy, I hurried to my session with great expectations! To my surprise, Beau (I misspelled her name in my previous review) was my masseur again. She used the same oils as my Bespoke massage. I love that you get to enjoy the oil scent before they begin. Beau gave me a thorough explanation of the process she would be performing. Being the 3rd day in a row having a massage, I was glowing and feeling good. This session did not disappoint! Wow, my muscles are dancing and wondering what’s going on. It used to be a place that was plush and boujee with a high finish. Now it’s a bit dated and tired. The spa is so disappointing now. All the ceiling is cracking, the pipes where the water feature comes out is all dirty. Sauna is much better though. There was about 3 beds to use and lay down as they have randomly put some inflatable cold baths in there which look like they are made for kids. And they also blocked out all the amazing view over the bay through the windows. It’s a shame as this used to be a place of solace for me. Now it’s just not the best and not worth the money. It is much better that they now don’t allow kids in.

He said they were inside and he'd get them. One of them was bearly over half full when they finally came and when I mentioned it he just ignored me and walked off. They were having water issues and there was no hot water and as we were staying one night and needed to get ready for a meal we decided to change hotels. There was only one girl on reception and no duty manager to be found. She apologised and asked us to email the manager for a refund. No response was received from the manager and when i tried to contact the hotel on two occasion's calls were left in a queue and then unanswered. After 4 days of no responses and no answered calls I detailed our stay on trip advisor and the manager left a curt and un factual response, he claimed they don't have a queuing system on their phones when they do. He also said that because we left that review he would not refund our room. Most interestingly, take a look at the 5 star google reviews on here, then look at their other reviews. This hotel is clearly buying fake reviews (if you don't believe me look at them yourself). The first review had posted over 30 reviews in the last 24 hours, reviews for all over the world. Thats impressive global time travel.
