I was craving BBQ last week and I decided to google places and I noticed the reviews were good for this place so I met a friend there. The best part about this place was the complimentary hush puppies which were fresh, hot and delicious. My friend and I ate 3 baskets lol. We both ordered the special of the day which was $10.99. The special was beef tips in gravy over white rice & 2 sides. For my 2 sides I got the Mac & cheese & mashed potatoes with gravy. Nothing in that plate was good at all. I was full from the hush puppies so I only tried all of the food and took the rest to go. I tried eating it the next day and it was still terrible. The waitress and staff were extremely friendly and kind but the dish I ordered wasn’t good at all. I was highly disappointed with the food. The hush puppies were amazing though. I won’t ever be back but I’m glad I tried it. The parking lot is small and not easy to park especially if you have a large vehicle. I would carpool if going as a group.

As an aside, I want to say that those baked beans are my favorite I've tried by far anywhere else, they have a tasty sweet heat that really seals the deal! The weather has been cold and wet here the past couple of days, but as soon as the kind lady (Hillary) placed down those cornbread hush puppies and that good and hot plate of food, I knew I came to the right place. Yesterday, I came back and had pretty much the same plate, but instead of Brunswick Stew I had the St. Louis Style Ribs as well as the Mac n Cheese instead of the Green Beans. Again, it was delicious, but I need a bigger stomach for all of that food. The food was delicious, the atmosphere is homey, and the people there are all phenomenal! On top of it all, it is super easy to meet new friendly faces. I have eaten there for the past two days, and plan on going there for dinner again tonight one last time before my flight out. If you ever find yourself nearby, I highly recommend giving Ole Time Barbecue a try.

The hush puppies and skins were excellent as well. I had the baked beans and mac n cheese and they were wonderful and how it should be, the rest is just down hill from here. The chopped bbq I would give 1 out of 10. Absolutely zero flavor other than drowned in vinegar. Im a bbq expert and can tell you its just how its done even for eastern style. I travel all over to eat bbq and this was down here as one of the most disappointing. Just got back last week from Detroit tasting bbq and it was by far better than here unfortunately. Ok on to the brisket, they get -10 out of 10 for this one. I knew when it came out I made a big mistake on ordering. The appearance is just not appealing. Its not the right color nor texture. The taste was even worse. Super dry and literally taste like it was boiled. I didnt eat anything but some of the sides. Everyone at my table said the same thing about the brisket, just don't do it. I wanted to like this place but I think its the nostalgia of it that keeps this place running.

Ribs were amazing. For a pound, it was at least 4-6 bones with a nice amount of meat present. Not really fatty, so you're getting the full pound worth! Turkey was phenomenal-moist, well seasoned, and could be eaten alone. The sides were meh, but I guess they did compliment the meat pretty well. Plus, who goes to a "smokehouse" for the sides anyway?! The bad: the “moist” brisket we ordered was very dry- cracked , crusty , leathery and looked like the surface of Mars. The good: everything else. Is it a hit or a miss? Here's what I think. Parking for this area is a mix of street parking which can be difficult especially on busy downtown evenings. While you aren't supposed to, there is the Publix garage parking which is for 2hrs and in theory only for those doing at the grocery store. Upon first look, Midwood had an appealing exterior, even boasting a section where you can get a drink from the bar right outside. The decor inside is pretty standard fare for BBQ and Smokehouse joints. It's clean and new and was quite busy when we arrived. We chose to sit at the bar, otherwise on the Friday night that we went, it would have been a 45 minute wait. The bartenders were quite nice and very attentive throughout our visit. But let's talk about food... That's what you are really here for isn't it...? If I could choose one word to describe our food, it would be bland. The brisket didn't really hit with a smokey beef flavor, it wasn't salted enough, and the typical slices were cut in half and a little on the dry side. The fat however was rendered for most of the cuts, but some was not. The sweet potato fries must have absorbed all of the salt because they were far too salty to enjoy eating. The last thing was the BBQ beans... The problem here is that they have a very strong flavor, but that single spice is all you taste. You don't taste the smoked meat in it, or the spiciness, or the beans for that matter, you just taste the one spice they drowned the beans in. I would say it was like a chili powder flavor, but I couldn't pinpoint it. The Mac n cheese was one of the better sides, creamy, but not just mush. Lastly the pork was not bad. It had more smoke than the brisket, but still managed to not wow the taste buds that much. Overall, I had really hoped downtown Raleigh would have gotten the smokehouse it deserves, but maybe we will in the future. For now, I'll continue going to Prime BBQ to get my smokehouse BBQ. I'll give Midwood another try, however I won't get the same items and might try a sandwich or taco.

It’s been 20+ years since I’ve been in a J Alexander’s. I remember it being really high quality in an upscale yet approachable setting. Glad to report this is still the case. We had the salmon and NY strip. Both were perfectly prepared with a nice chargrill flavor. Service was close to perfect as it can get despite it being very crowded. Parking was very rough but what else can you expect by Crabtree Valley on a Saturday. I had ordered the barbecue ribs with a loaded baked potato and macaroni and cheese. The cow or pig they killed the ribs for is in heaven smiling knowing the justice they did them. The sauce complimented the ribs well a nice subtle sweetness w a the perfect smokiness. The mac and cheese had a breadcrumb topping which im always skeptical about but the mac and cheese no exaggeration probably was a top 5 mac I ever had. The way the cheese sauce just hugged and caressed around the noodle was unlike any other. I dont know the exact cheese but it tasted like a gruyère and gouda blend maybe had some béchamel I do not know all I know was that the breadcrumbs, the cheese, and the sauce combined to make the perfect harmony. The loaded baked potato was just a loaded baked potato but on steroids. The loaded baked potato alone might make you full. The star of the show was the dessert… to anyone that’s reading this GET THE CARROT CAKE… I’m not giving a review on that just get it ASAP. Overall based on my experience I would say this restaurant is well worth the wait and you get your bang for your buck with top notch service. I would highly recommend. The staff was freindly and there's adequate seating. While I did not partake, the bar was fairly big and I could see myself sitting there at some point, given the right conditions. I went with the boneless wings, and tried a few appetizers. The Ultimate Nachos were great, so great the chips kept crumbling in my hands. I did have the bust out the fork, but it was very delicious; would recommend. The egg rolls were more of a mixed bag. The actual outside was really crispy and tasty, but the inside was just kind of bland. They didn't have the buffalo chicken ones, so maybe those are better, but the Italian and reuben just weren't very good. Finally, the Boneless Wings were interesting. These are some of the biggest wings I've had with a lot of meat on them. Definitely worth the price. The breading was okay and the flavor was good for the Mango Habanero and the Honey Sriracha, but I really have to wonder what exactly the Shearon Harris was supposed to be. It was supposed to be spicy, but it just tasted overly salty and peppery. I did not finish my Shearon Harris wings. The wing sauce for all my wings was also a little watery. Friendly staff. However, my disappointment was with the food. We ordered Brisket plates with Mac and Cheese and cabbage. The Brisket tasted like it had been cooked and then rinsed off. This stay was horrible. Mostly because of the staff and crime. I pulled my van and trailer next to my grandmothers car to unload belongings to her car at 12:30am. While im unloading a random dude sneaks up on me and says you cant park here. I said ok. Im just unloading. He stands 2ft from me as i continue my back turned trying to get my 2 yrold out. At this point. I said please go away. He continues to hover. At this point i get loud and i tell him to get away from me and my family or im calling the cops. Then he informs me that he is hotel security. Either way. His behavior was uncalled for and he created a dangerous situation for us both. I informed the hotel but nobody cared. That next morning when we were leaving someone broke into atleast like cars in that same parking lot on the same night. Maybe an hour after i got back. Its not even big. Where was that security guard??? Unbelievable Your breakfast is overpriced. Its also the same you get at hiltons that have free breakfast. Its a good thing you have free cookies. That is the reason we booked it and the only thing we liked.

These dogs didn't taste like a place with Hot Dogs in the name. They were more like dogs from a place that rarely serves hot dogs and weren't prepared for anyone to order them. I probably should have left when we arrived at 1pm on a Friday and it was empty. The buns weren't warm at all. The dogs were big but very bland. The sport peppers on the Chicago dog were the only thing I really enjoyed from here. I always like to give a place another chance down the road, so hopefully it was just a bad day.

Stopped by crave on a whim and man am I happy i did. We walked in and was greeted by friendly staff and a wall of draft beers for you to choose from. I'm not a beer fan but I did locate a cider or two on the wall as well! I ordered the loaded baked potato dog. A delicious hot dog topped with crispy tater tots, crunchy bacon bits, sour cream, and shreds of cheddar cheese. This behemoth is more than enough to fill you up, but you might want to try a few different dogs on their menu! They also have bowls. I ordered the mac and cheese brisket bowl while the bf ordered the brisket bowl. I was only able to eat a few bites after the hotdog but the flavor was delicious! They also have sauces on the table for you to add to spice up the different things you order! Definitely some craveable food served in this kitchen!

Stopped in here two times for lunch and both times I was pleasantly surprised. The first trip I had the brisket bowl and the loaded potatoe dog. This by far are the biggest hot dogs I have had served in a restaurant setting and truly the best tasting dogs I've had. The brisket and the Mac and cheese were great and the bbq sauce selection was one of the best ones to date that I've had of any of the bbq establishments I've eaten at so far. The second trip I had the ribs and the potatoe salad. Outside of red hot and blue this is one of the better potatoe salads available I've had. The ribs were a little lean for what I expected for the price buy meaty. I didn't like the dry rub on them that much but once I added some bbq sauce they were tasty. Lots of beer choices and a great atmosphere and the staff was great.

So here you go let’s see how long this one lasts. Just absolutely the worst I have ever had. Pictures speak 1000 words. Overlain Road is thriving with people eating outside on a beautiful day today the place look good on the outside went inside and nobody was there except for one employee.I should have turned around then I thought I would try their brisket plate. What an absolute disaster should’ve checked my order before I left, received the wrong side and I don’t think a mouse could get full on a piece of cornbread. But the cornbread was the best part of the plate.

I met and fell in love with Crave Hot Dogs & BBQ at a work event in March or April of 2023 and I couldn’t shake them! I’ve been trying to catch their food truck but due to one thing or another I was not able to. I know Raleigh is but a hop, skip and a jump however after work I’m on red light. But not this day! This day I am getting my Crave Hot Dog that I can’t stop talking about. I get the all beef hotdog with chili, slaw, ketchup and mustard. Not only did the hotdogs pack well, bun stayed fresh, did not get soggy with all of the deliciousness on top of it and that huge all beef inside of it. It was FIRE!!! The staff at the restaurant also made the drive worthwhile on that Saturday. Friendly, engaging and definitely know the brand they are representing!! I’m going to look for the food truck around my way but if I can’t get it today I’ll just hop in the car and hop, skip and jump to Raleigh.

Walked in and nobody was at the counter, 2 people ahead of me said they'd been waiting about 5 minutes and hadn't seen anyone. I wanted to order the 3 sliders but they were out of slider buns. I got a pulled pork sandwich instead which was $10 for just the sandwich no sides or drink, and I finished it in about 5 bites. The sandwich tasted good as did the sauces but this wasn't the best first impression, especially with so many other good BBQ places around.
