I unexpectedly enjoyed the John Brown House Museum. As a Black female, I ignorantly believed that I would feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. So far from the truth. It was fun reading the plaques under each exhibit and analyzing how those times connnected to the present or my own life. My favorite part was the section on John Brown's involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. I also thoroughly enjoyed the conversations the staff and I engaged in. They were able to answer any question I asked and extremely open to feedback on how they could continue to make the museum culturally appropriate for all. I recommend everyone visit this site.

I attended WaterFire on the Fourth of July and had a wonderful experience. The event was thoughtfully organized and offered a memorable alternative to traditional fireworks. Nearly 100 bonfires lined the rivers, creating an atmosphere that felt both peaceful and inspiring. The combination of music, firelight, and the crowd’s energy made the evening feel special.

A long standing institution in Providence, it's a great event to enjoy community, vendors, drinks, and just be in the moment and appreciate the city in a unique way.
It's such a cool thing that has been happening for 30 years. Unfortunately, the full lighting on 5/31/25 was not super crowded and the coffers were looking low. Granted, it was a cold night - but with everything going on in the world, it's worth coming together as a community and not forgetting tradition and togetherness.

RISD has a bit of everything from modern all the way to ancient works. It took us a couple hours to go through the exhibits, and it's very well curated. The Liz Collins exhibit was intriguing, I was not familiar with her work. Check it out while it's still there. I also enjoyed the Pendleton house the museum essentially surrounds with period pieces of American making. The Asian and medieval exhibits were also highlights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The entrance is un assuming, and 30 ft from the street in the side of the building. You then take an elevator to the 3rd floor and start your way to the 6th floor. We were nearby on a Sunday and visited. Admission is free on Sundays. It's worth checking out!

My family and I love to go to museums and we decided to check this one out due to the size.
The employees could use some training when it comes to attitude. We found the front desk lady to lack some basic communication skills.
I understand museums and security specially certain ones in corners etc. However I didn't feel comfortable with some of the security people following us around and staring us down when we'd be the only ones in the room.
It didn't make me feel comfortable or like I could take the time to admire a piece. I wanted to leave 20 minutes in because of this.
The museum is extremely large, expect to be here a minimum of 2 hours. The total admission for 3 adults was 66 dollars.
Overall, I loved the art and pieces we did get to see. They're displayed quite well. Some even felt magical :)

Went the Saturday after Valentines with my husband. It was our first time there and we heard good things about this place. We checked in but it took a bit for someone to come to the host stand and to get us seated. Our waiter Thomas was absolutely amazing. Very attentive and provided great customer service. Drinks were great, apps were ok we had the calamari which could have been cooked alittle longer and on the bland side but the sushi app was good. Our entree my husband had the lamb shank which he loved. I got the duck and I was so disappointed. It didn’t have any wow factor and wasn’t even hot. I wanted to send it back but there was another table that had sent food back next to us that I didn’t bother saying anything. I took a few bites and got it boxed. It was a bummer. We didn’t bother with dessert as it bothered me. For $48, I thought it would be better. At least we gave this place a try.

The many winding and intersecting roads make it easy to get lost in here, especially since there are so many beautiful gravestones and obelisks throughout. I go here every Saturday and I usually get a coffee. The store is amazing and usually has a lot of items that I can't get at a normal store. It's an amazing place for people that cook, the atmosphere is inviting and the staff are always extremely helpful and informative, they have an amazing deli as well as hot and ready to go food just in case you're a little bit hungry! They also have a little gelato section with cappuccinos which are my favorite! During the summer it's always nice to sit outside either on the street which they have tables for or off to the side near the fountain! One of my favorite places in Providence!! Not only do we love the GPub and the rooftop for a night out, we actually just got married here last Friday!
When my fiance and I got engaged we looked at many venues. Compared to everything we looked at through Connecticut, Rhode Island, Mass, and NH, the G was by far the best in value and vibe.
We had our ceremony and cocktail hour on the rooftop, did the reception in the gorgeous ballroom, and then an after-party at the GPub. We were allowed to bring our own touches like games, decorations, etc and it was all set up by their fantastic team perfectly.
Every single moment of that day could not have been more perfect. The day of coordinators did a FANTASTIC job of setting everything up and helping us throughout the day- legit heroes. As a bride, you fear not being fully present during your special day, but they allowed us to be fully present since they were so diligent and caring.
The venue itself is just SO fun. Parking was easy for our guests, front desk is super helpful, and the roof is one of our favorite spots (you have the full cityscape of Prov in your photos!) On top of it, the food was perfect, the caters and vendors all knew the space well so that went smoothly, and the vibe was just perfect.
I would recommend any event at the G to legit anyone who would listen to me. It is one of the coolest spaces in Providence and the people working there make it even better. THANK YOU ALL!! <3

Horrible experience!! Booked for my daughters b-day party by the fire pit. It was a cold night but no one ever told us just how windy and cold it was on the rooftop. Our recent trip to the Roger Williams Park Zoo was a perfect outing for our family, earning it a solid four out of five stars. My wife and I took our five-year-old daughter, and it was a joy to watch her excitement as we explored.
The zoo is incredibly well-suited for families with young children and provides a day full of fun and discovery.
For a five-year-old, the highlight was undoubtedly the farmyard area. She absolutely loved brushing the friendly goats and getting to see them up close. It was a wonderful hands-on experience that made her feel connected to the animals.
The train ride was another big hit, giving us a playful way to see parts of the zoo while taking a short break from walking. We were also thrilled to see the giraffes towering over us and the elephants in their indoor enclosure. Seeing the golden lion tamarins and the beautiful blue hyacinth macaws in their habitats was also very special.
The clear map at the entrance was a huge help, allowing us to easily navigate with our little one and ensure we saw all the animals on her list.
The zoo's focus on conservation is a huge plus, and we felt great about supporting their mission.

Came here for the Jack o Lantern walk, but I’ve been to the zoo proper before, albeit many years ago. Very cool attraction. It’s about a mile walk, takes about an hour to get through. Hundreds, if not thousands of pumpkins throughout. Some are very ornate. There’s some trivia related to the art on some of the pumpkins throughout as well. Great fun for all ages. This is the fourth year we’ve been and plan on returning for many years to come!

Highly recommended!! Truly incredible experience at the Pumpkin Spectacular! We booked tickets for 8 pm. Arrived with a fast moving line, which had no wait. Check in was a breeze and for a Saturday night it was packed but didn’t feel like so as the trails are wide enough to accommodate a crowd. The pumpkins are amazing to look at, especially the artist carved ones. One of the coolest and most do October bucket list items in New England!
We parked above the zoo which was a 10 minute walk to the entrance as it was free. The lines to park were long and do create a wait. Parking is free or you can pay $15 for premium parking which the lot was quite empty for.
Bathrooms are available and food trucks of fried dough, adult beverages, snacks etc. Definitely an awesome date night or a fun night out with the family

I was so disappointed in my experience here. I had a reservation for 7pm. I arrived a few minutes earlier. I came in and they said we will seat you in a few short minutes. Didn’t offer me a seat, didn’t ask me to sit at the bar and have a drink while I waited. Nothing. 25 mins later they found me a table. At first they offered me a table this establishment should not have which is a throwaway table. This table was next to the door so basically everyone is gonna be passing by you. It should not exist. After I turned it down that’s when they found me a proper table. Nobody that was waiting with me wanted that table.
I had the roasted chicken with a side of creamed corn. The corn was not creamed at all. It was just boiled corn with a water sauce on top. Super disappointing. The roasted chicken was okay nothing special. I was mostly excited for the creamed corn but that was a disappointment.
I had the coconut pie for dessert and it didn’t taste like anything.
The only good thing about this whole experience was my server Dami. Such a professional and a pro at what she does. Treated me so well.
All in all I probably won’t be back. It was a mid experience from beginning to end.

Jacky’s Waterplace is a terrific place for special events. I’ve been here for birthday dinners with eight people to holiday work parties with dozens of people. For groups of eight, the restaurant has round tables that allow everyone to participate in a single conversation, rather than only the people sitting next to them. If you’re looking for a place to have a dinner with a group around 7-8PM before heading out to the bars to celebrate a birthday or other occasion, this is a great option.
The food and drinks are consistently very good. The sushi pizza was a big hit for our group. The crust of the pizza is thin and is similar to a very crispy scallion pancake or outside of an egg roll. The crust is topped with either salmon or tuna; our group went with the salmon. On top of that is tonkatsu sauce, spicy mayonnaise, tobiko, and jalapeños. I’d definitely recommend giving the sushi pizza a try as an appetizer.
The walnut shrimp is also excellent. The “fruit mayonnaise sauce” the shrimp is served in may sound unusual, but it balances the flavor of the lightly battered fried shrimp really well.
The server was attentive and the robot (yes, robot!) that assisted him was very entertaining. Not only does the robot bring sushi to customers’ tables, it also brings fried ice cream and sings the Happy Birthday to You song (before rolling itself away with a message that reads “Back to Work”)!

Atmosphere was wonderful our first time here. Service was great as well. They were able to fit us in even though we didn't make a reservation on a very busy Saturday night. One can create a custom charcuterie board with a large selection of cured meat and cheeses. Their flat beard pizza was delicious. I took my 4 year old here a few weeks ago and we had an absolute blast exploring the children's museum together.

This place is spectacular! It’s a lot smaller than the one in Boston, but it’s also a place that’s accessible to everyone, and you just pay what you can, which I think is a really great way of doing it.
The upper levels were very, very creaky. They made me a little nervous that the floor might not hold so I didn’t stay up there very long, but the layout of the building is so unique. It was really fun to get to climb the stairs and to see all of those ladders everywhere like something from beauty and the beast.
I also really appreciated the variety! So much breadth in such a small space.
I could not figure out how to access the elevator. The handicap parking spot is out front at the very base of a massive staircase. It’s also on a hill, so I think it said the elevator was around back, but you would have to go up the hill to get to it, which is for all practical purposes not accessible. The building is really really old so that’s probably why.
I took those stairs very slowly, and I did make it up, and it was worth the trip.

Y'know...I've been to my share of museums, and the long and short of it is this:
1) The less crowded, the better
2) The more hands on, the better

We got here at 10am (opening) on a scorching hot Saturday, and we were joined by only one other intrepid scholar. Check one in our museum-fun favor.
Marjorie (the guide) took us right in. She kept apologizing for the heat, but her warmth and her candor was way more overwhelming. She is a gem and we had a delightful time learning about early Providence. Oh, and she let us carry the water pot...bro, we are PAMPERED with our plumbing and innoculations.
Of note: I'm impressed with both this house and John Brown's house up the street for their willingness to engage with the stain of slavery head on in both exhibits.

My girlfriend & I went on a celebratory date here for my promotion. We check out a lot of different restaurants so we decided to give this one a shot. Complimentary Valet parking was amazing! Then you head inside a hotel, take the elevator & when the door opens it’s like you’re in a different world. We came right at 4 (right when they open) and we got a super nice seat on the patio next to the fire. Our server John (also the manager!!) was so kind, gave us recommendations & 10/10 service . The staff is very friendly and welcoming from the time you walk through the building doors. We rode the elevator with a worker who was going down and asked if it was ok to ride down then up which of course and they were so pleasant. Once we got off the elevator the hosting staff was equally pleasant and accommodating because it was a last minute thing so I didn’t make a reservation.

The waitress immediately asked if we were celebrating and we just happened to be celebrating getting engaged. She brought over a celebratory drink and we both love bubbly lol. The managers came over separate times and congratulated us, checked on things and offered to take pictures if we wanted. Before we left we did because it was a beautiful sunset.

I wanted to share some honest feedback about a recent visit. To start on a positive note, our server was an absolute peach. She was warm, attentive, and clearly doing her best. As someone who also works in the service industry, I understand how challenging service can be, especially on busy nights. That said, it did not seem like a particularly busy night and I did want to share some concerns.
For our first course, we had the cheese board, which was just okay. Unfortunately, we weren’t given a description of the cheeses by the person who brought it out (I believe it may have been the floor manager) and when we asked our server, she wasn't sure either. She did go and retrieve the notes, which we appreciated, but it felt like a missed opportunity for engagement.
The most noticeable issue throughout the meal was the lack of table maintenance. Our cheese board, finished drinks (including a wine taste I didn’t care for), appetizer plates, and more were never cleared during the entire experience, despite multiple passes by our server. It made the meal feel cluttered and uncomfortable, especially considering the occasion.
As for the food: the entrees were okay. The sirloin had good flavor but was overcooked, and while the scallops were well-seared, the risotto was on the bland side. Dessert, the mango coconut cheesecake, also lacked flavor.
The highlight of the evening was truly the company I was with and the lovely view from our table. But considering it was our anniversary and the price point of the meal, the overall experience was disappointing.

We visited on a early Saturday afternoon in mid-June 2025.
There was a small parking lot on the side of the building and it was about 2/3 full. There was also street parking. It was also a overcast and drizzly kind of afternoon.
The sidewalk was being repaired at the time of our visit so we had to walk through the grass to get around.
There is a cost ($2) to enter. The tickets can be purchased online (just give them your name) but also at kiosk to the right when you enter. You kind of get what you pay for here. This is also the merch kiosk and it's kind of small and didn't really have anything with museum's name on it. Just kind of generic museum merch. The lobby was very large and a cool mural if you look up at the ceiling.
The bathrooms are also here in the main lobby, men's on one side and women's on other.
The exhibits start immediately to the left and you go through a few different rooms. There are stairs in in the middle of the lobby that goes upstairs with more exhibits.
The area with the planetarium is still a work in progress it looks like with many empty display cases. My favorite was the space area. There was also a Polynesian looking room we were calling the "Moana room". The changing planet room with the huge taxidermy polar bears was interesting.
We did not pay extra for the planetarium show and at about 1 hr, the kids were done and ready to leave.
Overall I'd probably not visit here again unless we were trying to kill some time or maybe watch the planetarium show. Definitely worth the first visit.

Really nice hiking trails for being smack dab in the middle of a highly populated area. Even got lost at one point, so there is plenty of space. Not too many people on the trails. The most difficult parts of the trail would be considered extremely simple for most real hikers, but if you just want to be surrounded by nature or get a good view of the city, this is an excellent spot.

It has since fallen into disrepair and somewhat resembles a gray tombstone over Providence, easily seen driving by on I-95. Historic observatory right in Hope St in the heart of Providence. I was fortunate enough to visit Ladd Observatory on its 133rd birthday, and had an amazing time. The first floor is filled with older astronomical devices and various telescopic images of different celestial objects. I wasn’t expecting this, and it made it feel like a mini museum. The main draw is the big telescope upstairs, which I got to see Saturn through. Additionally, there were a couple of smaller telescopes set up on the roof as well. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share which made the visit even more memorable. I’d highly recommend stopping by, you can register for a free visit on Eventbrite.

It is my goal to share a spooky story each day leading up to the final day of October. It is both an honor and a pleasure to share a story of my favorite structure from my time living in Providence.
Providence’s famous horror-story author, H.P. Lovecraft, was captivated by the odd studio. In Lovecraft’s most famous tale, “The Call of Cthulhu”, he writes of a character, “His card bore the name of Henry Anthony Wilcox who had latterly been studying sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design and living alone in the Fleur-de-Lys building near that institution.” Lovecraft continues to describe an eerie bas-relief made by Wilcox that vaguely resembles one of the sculptures on the house. “Wilcox still lived alone in the Fleur-de-Lys Building in Thomas Street, a hideous Victorian imitation of seventeenth century Breton Architecture which flaunts its stuccoed front amidst the lovely colonial houses on the ancient hill, and under the very shadow of the finest Georgian steeple in America, I found him at work in his rooms, and at once conceded from the specimens scattered about that his genius is indeed profound and authentic. He will, I believe, some time be heard from as one of the great decadents; for he has crystallised in clay and will one day mirror in marble those nightmares and phantasies which Arthur Machen evokes in prose, and Clark Ashton Smith makes visible in verse and in painting.”
Bertrand K. Hart, then literary editor of the Providence Journal and author of a regular column, "The Sideshow", read the story in a 1929 anthology, T. Everett Harre's ‘Beware After Dark!’ and was astounded to find that Wilcox's residence in the story was the same as the address where he had once resided. Feigning to offense, he vowed in his column of November 30, 1929, to send a ghost to Lovecraft's home at 3AM to scare him. Lovecraft promptly wrote the poem "The Messenger" at 3AM that night, which was published in Hart’s column on December 3.

Such a beautiful ICON of Providence. There is a nice walking track, basketball courts, a dog park, AND a boat ramp. I like to sit up there and watch the row teams come thru! It is a very safe area within walking distance to a few little shops and India Point Park. Great little getaway, feels like you are out of the city!
