If you can’t go snorkeling with a boat, I do believe this is the best spot accessible from land.
3 things to be aware of
- Wear water shoes. There are a lot of sea urchins where you get in the water.
- We didn’t have any cell service once we hit the hiking trail. Which was fine. At the head of the trail you will have service from British Virgin island side. If you have to make phone call, be aware of your international plan.
- Though not frequent, taxis do pass by if you don’t have a car. Just plan things early and you will be fine.

This is a very nice snorkeling spot - mainly because it's away from people. We were the only ones here at the time.
Beware of a few things:
There are a ton of jellyfish. They are mostly moon jellyfish, which have a sting that doesn't hurt too bad (so I'm told), but I'd rather stay on the safe side.
Around the Cay gets shallow and it's filled with sharp coral. Stay away from the shallow areas to avoid touching it.
The same shallows are full of sea urchins. Be very careful - these things hurt a lot. I just spent the last hour digging spines out of my partner's hand. Just stay away.
The waves are larger around here. It's not a great spot for children.
Otherwise, we saw a HUGE green sea turtle and a lot of fish around here.

First let’s be honest, it’s a hike, a hot hike. I had to carry all of our gear, took 30 minutes. On the way in prior to the cay there were sea turtles in the grass.
I left my wife on the stones, no sand beach near the cay.
The swim out to the cay was nice, saw a nurse shark under some coral. We swam counterclockwise around the cay as everyone says to. There were large coral and all the fish on the backside.
Not saying it’s not worth it yet there’s better beaches on the island.

Incredible! Much less crowded than Trunk Bay! Wonderful place to snorkel. We saw turtles, barracuda, sting ray, and tons of interesting fish! We loved or new friend, James! He makes the best tasting drinks. Make sure to find him at the bar a little further down from the entrance! Get The Lime in the Coconut! Lots of shade. You can rent everything you need for a fun beach day. There are 2 different vendors who sell chairs so check prices. Avg price is between $15 and $20 per chair. Shop it out first to get the best price! Didn’t see the donkeys this visit! Maybe later in the week!

Beautiful and not terribly crowded beach area. The limited parking (pretty much just the side of the road) limits the crowding, and the beach is just feet away from the road.
Snorkeling here was not great for us. There's no coral - just turtle grass here. So we saw about 2 fish while out here and nothing else. One guy claimed to have seen a sea turtle - which seem to be common here.

Maho. Just go. Get there early. Smaller than Trunk and Cinnamon, but parking is close and the beach is beautiful. More sheltered than Cinnamon which means less wind and less waves. Saw a four foot string ray and some smaller rays. Plenty of turtles! There have cabanas with picnic tables for free if you get there early. They have a beach bar and souvenir shop too. Beautiful, blue water, clean sand, and hardly any crowds. It's about 5 bucks a person to enter here - but it's worth the price. The parking lot is small, which cuts down on the crowds here.
There is an underwater snorkeling trail marked out by a few buoys you can follow out to Trunk Cay. It's not the best in the world, but it's very accessible an in a calm, easy bay.

The most beautiful place I’ve ever visited so far! We took a cruise from the US and ported in St. Thomas. We wanted to check off a bucket list place by visiting St. John. A U.S. National Park. Trunk Bay in Virgin Islands National Park is one of the most famous beaches, and it’s easy to see why—crystal-clear blue water, soft sand, and enough people to feel lively but not overwhelming. Facilities are convenient with showers and restrooms, though they close fairly early, so plan ahead. The sad part is the coral reef, which looks stressed and unhealthy in many areas. Hopefully it will recover, but more awareness is needed. The park could do better by promoting reef-safe sunscreen and encouraging visitors to use coral-friendly products. Still, it’s a beautiful spot to experience and worth visiting, especially if you want to check this iconic beach off your list.

I parked at the tourist center and took the trail over. It was a pretty flat trail, and great for running! I think on a map the lower trail looks longer, but it’s flatter. The upper trail goes uphill a little bit and looks shorter on a map.

This is my new happy place! Sitting under a palm tree looking out at crystal clear blue/aqua water while watching iguanas, chickens, goats, donkeys, birds, geckos, soldier crabs, and anoles.
The beach is clearly an east end local favorite, and it's easy to see why. They have chairs and cabanas spread out for use.
The beach is donate to enter (no recommended amounts are posted, but it's easy to want to be a little more generous to keep this place amazing). Plenty of on site parking, there are some porta potties to use, and the Love City public WiFi reaches here as well!
The attendant is super friendly and knowledgeable, he told us about Thalia (the landowner) whose family has owned this beach since the 1700's! They'll point out great spots to snorkel and tell you about some of their more frequent visiting wildlife to be on the lookout for as well!
This is a place I will absolutely visit again, and would highly recommend everyone check out!

My husband and I visited this private beach in late Feb. 2023. The owner Thalia was very nice and we had no problem making a donation to help with beach up keep. It's nice she makes the beach available for visitors. There are beautiful palm trees for shade and picnic tables, but during high season ALL the beaches are busy. My wife had this beach on her list of places to go because of the promise of meeting local pet lovers. She did well when she found this happy place. Love this beach. Love the people. Love the critters. Love the remoteness. I give it over five stars, but only three on the review because I’m a little bit selfish and don’t want the algorithm to attract anyone who doesn’t take the time to read the details. There’s a lot of details to unpack about this part of the island.
Bring your own food and drink. (Pack them out too, no trash service… but if you made it this far you probably already understand that)
There is a porta potty and plenty of beach play for the day supplies on site. Bring a little cash to put in the kitty. They won’t hassle you if you don’t have a lot to spare.
It closes early, but then so does the rest of VI.. Since it also gets dark early you’re likely to be very ready to sleep after a day in this warm salty breeze.
Roads were tiny and steep, but much better condition than some more popular beaches.

Great little beach that is so peaceful. On private property and you make a donation to visit. It's great because Thalia, the owner, will watch your car and she has beach chairs, kayaks, and paddle boards you can borrow. Everyone was super friendly here. Was skeptical since it’s the only true dog beach on the island, but it was wonderful! Just another gem of a beach on St. John. This one is a short drive from Coral Bay and is stunning like many other beaches on the island. Everyone talks about Trunk Bay being the most beautiful in the world, but do not skip this one! We packed up early and walked to the very far end near the black rocks. Spent the whole day relaxing feeling like we were the only ones on the beach. Everyone clears out at 4 to catch their cruise’s or their dinner plans so if you want that picturesque sunset walk on the beach, you’ll get it! We snorkeled a lot on St.John so the days we came here we drank the day away :). A short walk back to the entrance and amazing painkillers, strong ones too! What an absolutely gorgeous beach. I would have loved to have spent the day here, but we had a laundry list of things to see. We were in search of the “window” that I had seen everywhere when researching the area and then learned that it’s right as you walk from the parking lot, down the sidewalk, to the beach. I was thinking we had to do some major hiking to get to it, but not the case. The parking is ample and the beach is pretty big. You may even catch a glimpse of a cute little deer passing through.

By far my favorite beach on St. John. Not at all crowded like Trunk Bay, although the campground there is still closed from Irmaria so it may be more crowded when that opens. Sugar sand beach, clear water, and good snorkeling. Take the time to go across the street and take the trail through the ruins on a self-guided tour.

Today, I had a life-and-death moment while snorkeling at Henley Cay. I had heard so many great things about the spot, and it truly is one of the best snorkeling locations I’ve ever visited. However, five minutes into the water, I encountered the strongest current I’ve ever faced. My partner had warned me, but I didn’t realize the danger I was in until it was too late.
I fought hard to swim back to the boat or reach the beach, but the current was relentless. As I grew more exhausted, thoughts of not making it out alive flooded my mind. I saw my partner trying to guide me towards the bay, but I felt hopeless, picturing my family and friends mourning my death. I kept telling myself not to panic, to stay calm, and to conserve energy. Yet, I continued to drift further from safety.
Time seemed to stand still in those terrifying moments, but then, out of nowhere, I saw George—the boy from Michigan—approaching on his uncle’s boat. At that moment, I knew I was saved. I wasn’t going to die in St. John that day.
George, if you’re reading this, I cannot thank you enough. You are quite literally my lifesaver and guardian angel. I owe you so much! You can proudly tell everyone that you saved a life at St. John! I chartered a dinghy boat from Wharfside Village in Cruz Bay, St. John. From there it was about a 20 to 30 minute boat ride to Henley Caye. Because the only way there is by kayak or boat, not a lot of people go there. The coral was gorgeous....best I have seen in the entire Virgin Islands! So many different species of fish. It was like a rainbow of colors underwater.

Hawksnest Beach is a great beach if you want calm waves, snorkeling and crystal clear water. The difference between Maho Bay and Hawksnest Beach is that Hawksnest beach is much wider and has more beach so there are more places to find both sun and shade, it also has good snorkeling (but not great), it’s more convenient due to its close distance to Cruz Bay. It has restroom facilities and picnic tables and good parking. There is no hike to the beach. However, on some days the waves can actually get quite rough. Definitely one of my favorite beaches on St John!

Beautiful Sandy Beaches smaller once you are actually on the beach than you may expect but this beach is not too crowded, maybe because you need too take a boat from Saint Thomas to Saint John, then à taxi/bus to beach. This was our favorite beach during our trip. We only went to St John for 1 day. I wish we could've gone back for more. There was so much wildlife to see at this beach. Fantastic snorkeling along the northeast side. We saw lobsters, moray eels, sting rays, conches, along with an abundance of tropical fish. We also saw several sea turtles over the grass beds in the middle of the bay. Not overcrowded. Beautiful calm water. Free access and parking (besides the ferry ride to St John). Bathrooms could have been cleaner, but that was the only negative.

Beach is really nice and water is very calm. A little bit of a hike to get out here with very steep narrow roads, so not for the squeamish. Good amount of sea life, we saw small fish, a shark and a star fish. Turtles are pretty far out all the way to the far end of the bay so a bit of a hike in somewhat cloudy water. By far my most favourite spot on the US Virgin island . The bay area accommodates 30 plus mornings for boats and very protected from the easterly winds. Great spots to park you dingy and enjoy all the amenities of the beach . Plenty of parking for cars coming from Cruz Bay, be aware of the park ranger they cruise the area handing out tickets, or at time she comes on the loud speaker asking people to move first lol. Good beach, sea grass for snorkeling to see Turtles. The only problem is if you go to see Turtles and then the water is cloudy from rain, rough water or northern swelling, well you won't see anything.
We had a great time. Rentals are pricey but there are chairs, water couches and any other gear.
Limited food and bar for drinks.
Easy access from road, limited parking. We arrived at 8am. That was maybe too early. Didn't seem to really fill up until closer to 9/10.
Worth visiting once and try your luck to see the Turtles. Unfortunately we weren't lucky this time. Have to come back and try again. 🐢

BVI was a stop on a recent cruise. We did a day trip to St. John, then a tour of the island.
Honestly, when you've seen one Virgin Island (whether US or British), you've seen them all. The terrain is basically identical.
Unfortunately, a lot of the houses and businesses are still in disrepair after the hurricanes of a few years ago. I can certainly understand this as getting anything to these islands is a difficult, expensive task, not counting how expensive basic building materials are in the first place.
The nicest thing about any of these islands is the water, which is why the majority of people go there. It is stunningly beautiful. The white sand beaches contrast with the multi-hued water, ranging from a gorgeous green, to aqua to light blue to dark blue. And, the water is crystal clear. No wonder these islands are a divers (and snorkelers) paradise.
Don't waste your time on island tours, there's just not a lot to see.

I really liked this island trip. Very relaxing and beautiful. Beaches are nice, ocean is mesmerizing. One thing I didn't consider is always having a bug repellent on. I'd even recommend bringing either bug spray or citronella candles for inside. And since you will get bitten at some point bring your favorite anti itch spray/cream. But a lovely stay none the less.

220 steps thru the forest gets you to North Haulover Bay. An easy walk. The beach is rocks. But the snorkelling to the far left has incredibly beautiful fans and coral. Make sure it is a calm day. Don't waste your time trying to snorkel Trunk Bay as it looks like a deserted wasteland compared to what you will find here. Just a short walk from the road and only enough parking for perhaps a half dozen cars. From the road, it looks like a trail through a snake infested swamp but this is what probably keeps most people away. Also, the coral and rock beach makes it really tricky to get into the water without stumbling around like a drunken fool but then again this also probably keeps a lot of folks away. We went to the right first, and it was impressive, but then we went to left and it was incredible. Wish I had brought an underwater camera.

Best Snorkeling at ST JOHN so far. 5 minutes hike from highway 10. Not crowded at all so plenty of parking spot if you are not there too late. not a sand beach here though but once you pass the pebbles, turn left if you face the water, go straight, you will find a forest of coral reels and all kinds of fish, even school of colorful fish. if you move further away from the beach, you will see turtles and stingray feeding on the grass bed. The wave here is pretty big and sometimes one or two huge one can hit you with a big surprise so do not get too close to the rocks. too rough for the kids. but my 17 years old and myself really enjoyed the one hour we stay in the water. It is AMAZING! by the way, we went to almost every beach and cay at St John. and we do love this one the best.

Salt Pond & Rams Head Trail on St. John USVI is one of my favs! Off the beaten trail, away from the touristy beach areas, a little hard to find, but worth the trek. Pretty decent snorkeling it’s a bit of a hike from the parking lot but the cool thing is that once you are on the beach their is a lot to do.
You have the option to hop in and snorkel, be sure to bring a pool noodle as their are boats in the water and you want them to be able to spot you! You can also walk to the southern most point of the island along the rams head trail as well as collect natural sea salt from the salt pond!
Be sure to bring flip flops to wear on the beach as their are some sticks and twigs, wear shoes when bringing your gear up and back from the parking lot as the walk is rocky and flip flops are guaranteed to be a bad time

Kinda like me before coffee. 🤣 Cinnamon bay is not as beautiful as Trunks Bay, the road leading to it is dangerous at times. Narrow roads and sharp turns are not made for a beginner driver. There were even little sand-devil (whirwinds) on the beach, which was cool to watch from the water. The sand is white. The water is so clear. Love this beach and the history/ruins. The views are magnificent. We hiked in from Coral Bay Rd.(our rental wouldn’t make it, but I was determined to go-so we set out on foot)
We had a great time snorkeling and saw tons of sea life! On land we encountered deer, goats, and no-see-ums that tore me up. You ABSOLUTELY need 4 wheel drive. There are multiple DEEP ruts(photos near the end). So thankful to the sweet soul who carried us back to the top, otherwise we would have never made it!
Please, leave only footprints and take only memories and YOUR MESS/stuff/garbage. Help keep the island beautiful.

We had fun taking the rental jeep down the trail. Lucky for us, it was a slow day and we only passed one other jeep. Trails are tight through alot of areas so be prepared to work together and make the best of it. Beautiful beach and a restroom but no running water near the end of the trial. This “beach” is great for snorkeling and off shore diving. The beach is extremely rocky, not just pebbles. There is no area of the beach where you can enter without walking on sand covered rocks. We’ve gone to South Haulover Bay twice now. The sea life is amazing and the coral is beautiful. It’s one of the only places where the coral doesn’t seem to be damaged from the hurricane. To the very left and right sides of the bay are amazing places to snorkel and also scuba dive. We went diving there towards the edge of the bay and reached about 45ft. The water is as calm as a lake. No facilities, limited parking, but no hiking to get to the beach. The photos were taken in November close to sunset.

Great beach to get away from some of the more crowded spots. Sheltered in the winter more, from the wind, than the North facing beaches. There are no food trucks or stands, so pack a cooler. You can drop off your stuff very close to the beach and then go find parking. It also made it nice for someone in our party who had a bum ankle. Restroom is a porta-jon type building, and there is only one. Rough road to get back to parking, bu it seemed like enough spots for the number of people that come there.

This beach is a little further from the main areas. However, it was some great snorkeling. we saw a few Stingrays, Spotted Eagle Rays, a nurse shark and a lemon shark and a few parrot fish. You can easily see depths of 20 to 30 feet if you're venturing out that far. Parking is a little challenging but people leave often so you might have to circle the driveway a couple times. It is a little Rocky and pebbley to the left of the main entrance. However the further right you go, You will encounter softer sand as you enter the sea.

Wonderful! Right next to Maho Beach and quieter/less people. A new concrete road leads to a parking lot right on the beach. A bathroom is here and walking trail to the further parking if you arrive after 9am-ish. The lot here at the ocean fits about 12 jeeps. Out of the many beaches we've visited on St John this beach has the MOST shade with trees you can sit under with picnic tables. Again get here by 9am or they're taken.

Hidden Gem. we took a walking trail to reach the beach, it's like .25 miles of walk. Nice trail. You can also drive to get to the beach. But most probably you will not find nearby parking and might end up taking 5 min walk. Plenty of trees offers natural shades. I have spent time in and thoroughly explored 45 national parks in the USA in my life. I have been to dozens of state parks as well. So when I say this place is the best place I've ever been to, that is saying something. The water is crystal clear and 87°F in late July. We moored right by the caves for four nights and used our dinghy to motor over and eat lunch at the Willy T twice. The jump from the Willy T is thrilling and it's such a social place with so many friendly people. We saw big fish and small fish galore while snorkelling near the caves. It was like swimming in an aquarium. We saw everything we wanted to see here. We sailed all around the BVIs for 12 days and we all agreed Norman Island was the best location of them all. If you want the best snorkelling of your life in warm, clear water and a mooring spot that is perfectly calm and protected and a great spot for cliff jumping, this is the place!

To date there are only a couple of commercial buildings on the island. There is Pirate’s Bight, which is a restaurant and next to it a gift shop. I believe there is one additional eatery as well. The only way to get there is by boat. I understand that places like this aren’t for everyone; it’s not a haven for shopping, it’s not a place to party and your dining options are limited. This National Park is really cool. There are underwater markers along the reef near the island that are really fun to follow and read and check out. They give you a little information about the habitat. My son and I snorkeled around the island. That was amazing! And of course up and down the beach. We saw a ton of fish stingray all kinds of cool stuff. It wasn't terribly busy. Did have some cruise people come and go. Chair rentals were $15. They do take your ID and give it back to you when you return the chairs. They're conveniently is a little shop for food, drinks, ice cream and souvenirs. They have a bath house and toilets. You can't go wrong with the Caribbean waters. This location does not serve you. You have to go get your own food and drink.

This was the BEST snorkeling on St. John to see fish and coral. The island is a nice short distance from shore - much closer than the island off of Cinnamon Bay. Halfway between the beach and the island is a shallow reef, about 10 feet down. Here there were a TON of fish! There were so many Yellowtail Snappers, which were so friendly and would get so close! Super cool and fun, especially for new snorkelers or children. We did see a Barracuda cruising through, which was a little scary but very cool as well.

I wasn’t sure if I should make the trip when my cruise line docked in St. Thomas. After much research & planning.. we did the cab to the ferry, then cab to beach & made it back in time for the ship. Very clean and interesting interpretive center and park store that really only occupies about 1/8 of the building. There are bathroom facilities and a few picnic tables near the entrance.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. There are two Junior Ranger badges to get here: the VI NP and Underwater Explorer. Each take about 30-40 min to complete and most all the information is available at the store.

I’m currently on a journey to explore all the U.S. National Parks, and that’s what brought me to the beautiful island of St. John for a weekend getaway!
Virgin Islands National Park is number 57 out of 63 for me, and honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve visited so far.
We flew into STT (St. Thomas) on May 19, 2025, and took the ferry from Red Hook. It cost a $3 port fee, but we weren’t told about the additional $65 round-trip cash fee until we were already on the ferry to St. John.
Once on the island, we drove all around and hiked five different trails—some moderately challenging. I highly recommend:
• Lind Point Trail to Honeymoon Beach – very quiet and peaceful in the early morning, with stunning water colors.
• Salomon Beach – great for snorkeling.
• Ram Head Trail – incredible ocean views from up high and rich historical significance; you can go from white sandy beaches to coral reefs in just a few minutes’ walk.
• Trunk Bay Underwater Snorkel Trail – hands down the most beautiful ocean water I’ve ever seen; the sand feels like butter, and the color of the ocean shifts from vibrant turquoise to deep blue. Entry is $5 per person.
• Reef Bay Trail & Petroglyph Trail – fun and a bit challenging. About 13,000 steps round trip, including stops at the Petroglyphs and Sugar Mill ruins. Well-marked and easy to follow.
Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center—the rangers and volunteers are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the park’s history and got up-to-date weather info.
We lucked out with sunny skies, but the mosquitoes and sand fleas definitely treated us like an all-you-can-eat buffet!
We stocked up on food, drinks, and supplies in Cruz Bay—there’s not much available between there and the trailheads. It made for a perfect day trip in the park.
St. John is incredibly charming, especially downtown, with its colorful shops, bars, jewelry stores, and gift shops. My favorite part? The ice cream!
We ended our day with a late dinner at The Morgan’s Mango—pricey as hell, but totally worth it.
We’re so happy to have explored this stunning national park. It truly is picturesque. I was so sad to leave. Saying goodbye was tough—but I’m excited to see where my next adventure takes me!

Not one of the best national park visitor centers I have been to, but it is still four stars. Basically anything national park related is great. Okay not great displays and gift shop. Getting there was an adventure in itself - ferry from St. Thomas to St. John's, a bus ride from the ferry to the gates, followed by a shuttle that drops you right at the beach. The facilities? Let’s just say they’re functional, but don’t expect anything fancy. Still, once you set eyes on the beach, any minor inconveniences melt away.
This place is pure paradise, even with the water a bit clouded from recent storms. It’s still one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to - a peaceful atmosphere that makes it feel like your own private escape. And here’s a surprise: there’s an on-site bar! Great beach. You will have to hike from downtown or from the parking area up the hill from town. The hike from the parking area is 20 minutes down and 15 minutes up. Beach has a bar and rental place that looked like it was opening back up soon. If so, there will be a lot of people at the beach from boats. Selection is okay at best, customer service is the worst I’ve received ever. I work in customer service and if I was the owner I would fire the rude, condescending cashiers.
1st experience I just got done traveling the whole day, and accidentally placed my shopping basket on the counter, (didn’t see the sign) the male cashier proceeds to just shake his head for roughly 30 -45 seconds not saying anything. He then proceeds to point at the sign which I immediately apologize and he continues to shake his head and ring me out. I say thank you, no response.
2nd experience the female cashier doesn’t say anything, I place all my items on the shelf and wait for about a minute for her to get off her phone. She doesn’t say a word to me and proceeds to ring me out, again I say thank you, no response.
You would think a shop that relies heavily on tourism and charging tourists the non local tax of 3X the price of what they are paying locally would at the least be decent.
Rude, condescending, entitled behavior doesn’t belong in customer service, maybe some self reflection would be helpful!

I found their staff to be very helpful over the telephone and in person, and they made using their services very easy. We only rented a tandem kayak from this time, but would love to be able to take them up on a larger service in the future, as we hope to revisit (kayak > camp sounds amazing). Renting kayaks & snorkel gear from VI Ecotours is definitely the way to go when in the USVI. I love being able to take a little adventure whenever the mood/situation arises.
They have some good tours, but as someone who lived there in the past, I like the convenience of having my own gear. Super easy, too, to pick it up in Mongoose Junction - their shop is right by the parking lot for simple loading.
I also found that I liked being able to fully reserve my gear in advance - one or two of the other companies said it was a “hold” but couldn’t guarantee availability. This will come in handy if you’re traveling during busy season.

We had planned on going kayaking along the north shore beaches, but due to rough waves and winds, our trip was changed to the more protected shores of a secluded area of bays called "Hurricane Hole" - where boats apparently go to hide during hurricanes. Although we missed not being able to enjoy a few more beaches, we were glad we didn't have to cancel and this turned out to be a great trip. Our guide Anj was wonderfully professional, personable and knowledgeable about the area, kayaking and the marine life. The double sit-in type kayaks were in good condition and easy to manage. Overall we enjoyed about two hours of moderate kayaking and two hours of moderate snorkeling, with a simple but tasty sandwich lunch (didn't want to eat too much anyways as there were no restrooms in this remote area). The water was fairly clear along the rocky shoreline and we saw a wide variety of fish and coral. It was nice being a small group of 8 as Anj was attentive, able to answer everyone's questions, ensure everyone stayed safe, and provide individual assistance as needed. Loved the experience - it was absolutely a highlight of our trip!

We rented chairs, a shade, and snorkeling gear for the day we were on St. John. Great experience overall. Everything was packed up, labeled, and ready to go when we got there. A lot of places close at 4p but thankfully they're open until 8 so we were able to enjoy a full day on the beach and then return everything with plenty of time. Love this place!! We were helped by a passionate, smiling man, named Thomas (I think)! I had snorkel gear but it kept leaking/didn’t fit correctly. We took it there and discovered I needed something smaller for my head size. He got me fitted with the correct goggles and snorkel, showed us how to clean and care for the gear, and also gave us helpful information about the island and snorkeling spots! If you're not paying attention, you'll miss the parking area and the sign. The parking area is across the street from the trail. The trail is easy, 320 ft. Not recommended for anyone wheelchair restricted as it is not wide enough, IMO.
This beach is a bit different from the other hot spots in St. John because the waves do break rather rough. No sea grass, so no marine life. Don't expect a snorkeling adventure here.
However, my party had the entire beach to ourselves! Plenty of nooks to spread your beach blanket under the trees for some shade. It's a short beach, from the trees to the waterline, so tuck in tight.
If you're looking for a place to just chill out, relax, let the kids play, and catch some rays with a stunning view, this is it.

We have visited St John quite a few times pre and post Irma. The island has recovered wonderfully and the smiles on everyone’s faces are welcoming.
Having stayed here many times we were looking for a new accommodation so we reached out to the friendly folks at Caribbean Villa’s of St John. Things could not have been easier or smoother! We chose Exotic View for our family of 4 (this was the kids first time!). Wow- what an awesome experience- the name truly lives up to expectations. We were greeted at the ferry dock by a member of the Villa group. She showed us the way up Jacob’s Ladder just past Starfish Market. A Jeep is required to reach this property (mainly if the ground is wet due to the grade)- the first trip was a little intimidating … until we parked.. shown through the front door and to the back porch/patio…. And WOW!!! The view over to St Thomas and the surrounding island is spectacular!
Exotic View honored us with some mesmerizing sunsets from the Balcony or from the warm refreshing water of the amazing swimming pool. It was hard to pry the kids away from the pool patio and to the beaches because it was so convenient and perfect! The house is extremely well equipped with all of the essentials labeled to eliminate confusion. The kitchen was fully equipped with modern appliances and the washer/dryer is an excellent addition. The tradewinds were pleasant and if it was warm at all the AC in all areas did an exceptional job of cooling us down after a day on the beach in the sun.
You are only a few minutes from a drive into Cruz- or up over Centerline to Coral Bay, Windmill Bar, Shambles, etc. What a magnificent location!
We will certainly visit this property again in the future and look forward to the exceptional service from Caribbean Villas of St John.
Do yourself a favor- book Exotic View and make some amazing memories! Every evening is a sunset view straight off of a travel magazine cover!

We stayed at La Bella Vita in grand virgin estates and it was beyond GORGEOUS! Very large upscale 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath. Walk in showers, double sink bathrooms, a grill and outside kitchen area, large pool, gated community and home, beautiful landscape, ocean view! Everything was beyond great! It was 100% better than staying at a resort. The amount of space and scenery was epic. Everyone’s bedroom was facing the ocean and had nothing blocking it since it was on the top of the hill.

I have been vacationing on the beautiful island of St. John for over 25 years and felt compelled to share my recent (post Irma and Maria) experience. I have utilized Caribbean Villas on numerous occasions in the past and have never been disappointed but my recent (March 30 through April 6, 2018) was a exceptional. I decided to take my 18 year old son to St. John over his spring break for just a father/son trip and booked Orchid Villa overlooking Rendezvous Bay for the week. The house was perfect for the two of us - It was clean and accurately represented all of the amenities advertised with no hidden surprises, but the attention we received from the Caribbean Villas management team is what impressed me the most during this trip.
I contacted their agent upon arrival at St. Thomas and was promptly met at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay as soon as we arrived. From the start of the trip the service provided was impeccable. The agent first escorted us to our rental car and then onto the villa. She walked us through each room, explained in detail how everything worked and shared useful information about the island and its current condition. The staff of Caribbean Villas truly wanted to make sure our vacation was perfect, and they made every attempt in doing so, far exceeding my expectations. The way we were treated was EXCETIONAL! A transformer on the island caught fire two days before our departure, leaving the entire island without power for almost a day an a half. I was amazed at the sincere concern Caribbean Villas management expressed during this outage and their efforts to ensure our comfort during this brief inconvenience. They sent texts regularly to make sure we were okay and offered us another home with a generator for the remainder of our stay.
I can honestly say that in the 25 years I have been coming to St. John I have never had such genuine and honest treatment from a management company. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that you can return to a place that you consider your "home away from home" without having concerns of the accommodations and the treatment you will receive. Caribbean Villas has never disappointed but this trip they went above and beyond. Looking forward to our next trip already.......

Caribbean Villas of St. John was wonderful, stj is beautiful. We have been vacationing with them since 2009. This last trip we brought our 8 month old daughter and couldn't have been happier with our stay. We spoke with Diane, Kris, and Kim over the phone and through email while coordinating our trip and we met Dolores in person right off the boat. We had a lot of questions since we were traveling with an infant and they answered ALL of our questions and concerns.
You can feel the community vibe that is alive and well on the island. They only grow stronger everyday!
Morgans was fantastic we ate there for dinner twice and I couldn't get enough of Cruz bay landing.
The villa was well maintained, couldn't have been cleaner, with the constant breeze we didn't need the ac on at all. We are already planning our next trip to the island and we will certainly be staying with Caribbean Villas.

I was SO pleased with our stay at the Caribbean Villas. The location was perfect (just far away enough from town to be quiet at night but close enough to walk... if you're willing to take QUITE a steep walk up a couple of hills). There is off-street parking which is really nice if you rent a car. When we drove into town, we would just park our car at our rental car place and walk from there.
The place itself is clean and has EVERYTHING you need kitchen-wise (plates, bowls, cups, cooking utensils and pots and pans, a coffee pot, coffee filters, a stove and oven, and a microwave). It was very clean when we got there and check-in was easy and they accommodated us arriving late.
They were very communicative and great hosts.
The pool is beautiful and the view from it is even better! I didn't think we'd use it and just be at the beaches the whole time but it was really nice, after a long day, to just hop in the pool to cool off and have a cocktail.
If you are looking for a nice, not so expensive place to stay, this is it!

Our prior experience with this company and the villa was great so we decided to re-book a modest villa for the July 4th holiday 2014, Aqua Gem. Upon arrival, we immediately smelled "rotten-eggs" in the Villa, every water source smelled of "rotten eggs" (toilets, sinks, showers). As we are familiar with the Island and my husband grew up there, we knew there was an issue with the water supply. We immediately called the management company who dispatched someone to check it out the next day. There was bacteria build up in the water supply which caused the sulfuric smell, the water needed to be treated. This company initially refused to find other accommodations for us on the Island (and actually expected us to wait DAYS for the water treatment to take affect). They actually told us they would refund us for half the reservation and WE could find somewhere else to stay! It wasn't until we contacted the Administrator of the Island to intervene, that the company decided to be helpful. The Administrator referred us to another company who by chance had comparable accommodations and Caribbean Villas agreed to work with that company to move us and settle funds among themselves. Needless to say, had we not know the Administrator of the Island our trip would have been ruined and the mgmt company could care less because they were already paid! We wont be doing business with this company anymore, but if you choose to beware. Aqua Gem is a nice place provided the water supply is clean. It's very convenient and the views are awesome.

Bring your water shoes. Walk across the rocks and swim out to the left. There is a shallow reef which is patchy, but good, and a deeper 10’ to 20’ reef which is outstanding. Lots of soft coral. We did see some tropical fish and a conch shell. Beach was very rocky/ little to no sand on beach. We have heard there is amazing snorkeling here, so we’re a bit disappointed by our visit.
