We weren’t disappointed and happy to say that everything was very well organised, from the office departure to the moment we returned to Hanoi. The boat we went on (Treasure Yunk) was lovely and all the crew welcoming, along with some amazing food! Our tour guide from Handspan remained with us on board and really was amazing. She kept us informed at every stage, and even when there was a slight delay on boarding the boat she kept us entertained with a short walk to see some local sights. She genuinely cared and made sure we were happy and looked after, taking genuine interest in all of us. Their Hanoi office is also centrally located and has seats/toilets for when you depart and return. I would totally recommend Handspan travel for this Bai Tu Long bay tour but would happily trust their organisation for other tours

We had to make several last-minute changes to the itinerary after a typhoon, and our guide Eddie used his extensive local knowledge to come up with a new schedule that somehow not only covered everything we wanted to do originally but added some extra stops on top. I don't know what deal he made with the weather gods, but somehow everywhere we went was bright and sunny at all the right times! There was necessarily a lot of driving in our itinerary but it wasn't a problem because the vehicle was clean and comfortable, our driver was calm and professional, and Eddie made sure we stopped to see something every couple of hours to break up the longer journeys, as well as giving us lots of interesting historical and cultural insights. Eddie also made sure to learn what we liked and didn't like so that he could order the best food and drinks for us - we had excellent meals throughout, which always cost less than we expected. In fact I think a lot of discounts were negotiated on our behalf on food, excursions, souvenirs and accommodation! We saw some incredibly beautiful places that we would not have known about and avoided the "tourist conveyor belt" experience that we'd had in other places. We did a lot of research and seriously considered doing a DIY trip but I'm so glad we didn't - we wouldn't have seen half as much stuff and I think we would have had a much less "local" experience. The price was substantially lower than most of the other quotes we got from other places too, which was surprising for such a well-known company. It certainly felt like an adventure as we enjoyed beautiful days of hiking through the gorgeous landscapes with barely any other tourists at all. The terrain changed from day to day - rocky, scrubby hill climbs to excellent views, lovely long valley strolls, dense humid riverbeds, and villages and farmlands to walk through. Everyone was so friendly & it felt like a real privilege to see how the local villagers live and to see their craftsmanship. We loved Mr Kim’s Homestay, Mama Peng looked after us so well and cooked up a storm every night. The quality of the food was excellent! It was a perfect way to end the day sitting out with a beer, watching the activity of the village after a day’s hike. Generally there was great catering for vegetarians too as wherever we went there were good veggies & tofu. Not necessarily a huge range or variety, but of course bear in mind you’re staying in a rural area. We were grateful to be eating food that we could see growing in the fields we passed. Everything felt well organised and it was easy to have a good time. Some mornings we did some cultural things, and we always walked to explore the surroundings once we’d arrived in a new area. Our guide Sunny was indefatigably cheerful, friendly and fun! Ngoc the driver was easygoing and always drove us with care. We had such a good time on this trip, would highly recommend to anyone who loves hiking & wants to see the beauty of rural Northern Vietnam, far from crowds of tourists. From Tonkins suggested itinerary we personalized an 18 day trip from Hanoi to Saigon and across to Siem Reep and Phnom Penh. At every stage we had a private car and guide ensuring we made the absolute most of our time seeing the sites including Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Saigon and Angkor Wat. Our plans included 3 internal flights and stays at 8 hotels (inc. stay on a Junk). We were pleased with all hotels, most far surpassing our expectations. The guides at each stage were fantastic and paired with private cars and drivers meant our travel to sites was comfortable and super efficient. I'm sure covering what we did during our trip would have been impossible by booking independently. After the tour I was looking for a hand sanitizer but we were not able to find one on our way back to the hotel with the student guides, after few hours the hotel staff came to our room with 2 bottles of hand sanitizer and told me it was given by the student guide Robin and he even gave my son a pack of Vietnamese Coffee. Alex gave my son a wooden beads bracelet, they were so thoughtful. 😊 By the way, the tour guides are for free, but you can give gifts or tip, we packed a gift for each student and gave them tips because they deserved it. The evening spent with him was fantastic. We visited 8 stops in total and were amazed and satisfied with the local street food we sampled. Our tour guide and driver was nice and friendly. Once leaving Hanoi we realised different parties on the bus had booked different things to go and see in Ninh Binh. Meaning we would have to wait for eachother while the bus took ppl to different places. We ended up skipping Trang An.. which i regret. I really wish Daily Vietnam tour would have communicated this before the tour started. Highlights of the day was Mua cave. The tour is very resonable priced and I did feel no matter what company you travel with the itinery and timing is similar if u do a day tour. It do feels a bit rushy and you spend a lot of time travelling in the bus. We only spent 1 h at Mua cave which i found a bit short. Tam coc river was fun, they row with their feet. Nature is absolutely stunning. Just be prepared while going on the river tour (not Daily Vietnam tour)that the rowers and locals on the way are very pushy trying to sell you things. The rowers also expect a hefty tip. If you want little more time.. it is defiently worth booking the tour where u spend 1 night in Ninh Binh.
