Really it comes down to feeling like we were in the way and the servers were too stressed to do a solid job making sure we were taken care of. I received a different side then ordered and the mushrooms in some type of sauce were okay (I am not a fan of mushrooms and wished the heirloom tomatoes had been provided). But it was nice to try something different. The Sauvignon blanc was good. The steaks didn’t melt in the mouth except a few pieces. They really help you settle in. They were quite engaged with any questions and i don't think my drink got less than a quarter full before it was replaced. The food was incredible! I went a little safe with the roast chicken but the flavours were very rich. I loved the new Golden Snitch treat. I'm not usually a fan of pear but found the flavours a delightful combination with the chocolate! I wish i could've had more cocktails but had a tattoo the next day. Great Cosmo though. It's really easy to kill a Cosmo with the orange and balance of liquers but this was pretty spot on. The atmosphere inside was very calm, sophisted and whimsical. If you like Harry Potter meets Cloud 9 kind of vibe, then this is is for you. I will definitely be back to try more on my next trip up and hopefully sample more of those cocktails!

We had high expectations as the reviews have all been very positive. However, we thought the food really missed the mark. When we attended there was a guest chef and the menu offered was all seafood. We found most of the fish was not cooked well. Particularly, the squid spaghetti was chunky and chewy, and the squid ragu was underwhelming in flavour. The turbot was overcooked and rubbery. Throughout the meal, there was not a good balance of flavour and texture. I struggled to get through the full menu. We had the 10 course tasting menu and everything was cooked to perfection. I've went to a a number of Michelin rated places and I can say that this is definitely in my top 3 places, and the best meal I've had in my multiple visits to Edinburgh. It's very hard to choose a favourite dish as each one was a hit - flavourful and very well balanced. The service was impeccable and very friendly, and we even got a lovely recommendations for local coffee and pubs. I love the punny culinary artwork, and the ambiance was lovely, warm and welcoming. Had never been before and was not disappointed. For me the highlights were definitely the lamb saddle and the oysters. The oysters were so fresh, and almost creamy... could've eaten about 20 of them! For a one Michelin star restaurant, I had very high expectation. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience, food to service to wine, all good. However, for a one Michelin star restaurant, I was expecting more - kudos to the seasonal ingredients but one of us had the vegetarian menu and it was just mainly courgettes, quite underwhelming. For me and others who had meat and seafood, again things were tasty and everything was decent except for the portion sizes - I finished the dinner still feeling needing some snacks later on 😭 For the wine, the staff member described it as savoury earthy and somewhat complex but in fact it was a lot more vibrant and simple wine - we tasted it before eating the food with relatively neutral pallets and during dining, so not to judge the wine itself but more for expectation management. The service itself was professional, but not necessarily delightful - the atmosphere there at the time felt serious and unrelaxed, staff member was giving a little nervous vibe - hopefully not because of us! Maybe a thing for most Michelin restaurant because of the clientele it attracts 😅 Would I recommend it?
