We were doing this as part of the Freedom Trail. They did not open until 10AM and we planned out our hike so that we would arrive here just around 10AM. We talked for a couple minutes with the staff here at the front as they were a bit on the shorter side and needed some help getting the large tall doors opened for the day. They were really nice and look like a ton of resources here. The point is that we should be allowed the freedom to protest, regardless of our beliefs, and looking at this wonderful slice of history, shows us that we are still free. I’ll start with the pros. First off let me say that each and every staff member at Oceanview of Nahant, ESPECIALLY all of the coordinators, are absolutely amazing and deserve nothing but praise. Particularly for my wife and I, we worked with Sami and Allison throughout the planning process and Claire and Meghan for our day of coordinators. They were all amazing from start to finish, especially Claire and Meghan on the day of. They made it so stress free and organized everything so well! In addition, the venue is unbelievably beautiful. We are still constantly getting compliments about how beautiful the place was. It’s so perfectly designed for weddings in every way shape and form. The food was also fantastic. We did a clambake which was a blast. The lobster was so good and so was everything else! The bibs were a fun touch lol. Everyone is still talking about the food! While on the topic of the clambake, let’s get to the cons. The first and biggest con was that we were misled to what the clambake was going to be. They actually just prepare all of the seafood in the back kitchen with everything else. Yet, they call it a clambake and even advertise it as being done on the rocks with seaweed outside on the beach like a typical clambake is done via a video on their website. What’s worse is they recently redid their website and they still showcase that video. We were never told that it wasn’t actually a clambake, so for a year throughout the planning process we kept telling all of our guests about how we were doing this outdoor clambake, and we were very disappointed to find out that they actually don’t do that anymore and we actually found out from our photographer 2 months before the wedding. So that was definitely a bummer lol. Don’t get me wrong it was still great, but why advertise that if that’s not what you do? We felt it should’ve been explained to us when we decided to do the clambake. My last con is probably no surprise being that this is a wedding venue and a high end one at that, is that they nickel and dime the heck out of you if you want absolutely anything extra. Want the arcade machines that are already plugged into their walls? $1500. Want them to turn on the fire pits and make some smores at night? $2000. Things like that. I just wish these things were a lot more accessible and the pricing of them kind of just seems like a “cause we can” kind of thing. They also used the fog machine for our last dance and we asked to do it without that. Not a big deal, but just wanted to point it out. Again, let me reiterate that the staff and coordinators were truly amazing!!! And the venue was incredible. Despite the cons, we don’t regret a thing. We had a completely rained out day and the versatility of being able to quickly change to plan B (because of rain) was amazing!!! As bride and groom day of, Gina and Team absolutely took care of us and were great! But I HIGHLY recommend hiring a full packaged wedding planner when working with their team. The facility (like stated) is a state run facility and it is definitely run as such! It’s not very DIY friendly, their hours are flexible on their end making it hard to coordinate some times, and we heard through our other vendors they were very strict and stern to the other teams day of. We thankfully, hired a day of coordinator to help facilitate the day, the team at the mansion has the aim to take care of only the mansion (not your wedding)! With this in mind they aren’t very flexible or “go with the flow” for your wedding, they do not take the time to truly understand your wishes for your wedding, they are strictly in charge of insuring the safety of the mansion. Keep this in mind when planning your big day! If you are will to pay to have a coordinator deal with all of this for you, this is definitely the place for you!

It’s a historical building with beautiful grounds that you would never expect to be in Watertown. We did a hotel block right next door at the Hampton inn - some of our guests walked back to the hotel after the wedding which was super convenient!! We felt comfortable not booking a shuttle for that reason. Additionally, the shopping plaza next door provides several options for an after party location 😊 I have to agree with one of the previous reviews stating that the staff is there to protect the mansion, not to ensure you have a great wedding day. We hired a wedding planner who advocated for us throughout the planning process and was a huge help the day of the wedding. I truly do not think we would have had such an enjoyable day without her - you absolutely should budget for someone like this if you book this venue. Despite the gorgeous vineyard-lined ceremony area, you need to expect some less than ideal weather for this location. This means coming up with a weather plan that you are excited about. We had incredible weather, but the forecast was touch and go, and I was so stressed that we would have to go with plan B, which we weren’t excited about at all. This plan requires working with your catering team (the biggest expense of all…), so you should not be afraid to tell them what you want and don’t want in the event of inclement weather. Do I regret having our wedding here? Absolutely not Would I recommend it as a wedding venue? I’m not so sure. Definitely do your research into the catering expenses before you book - and seek out a planner to do some vetting before you book here - this could help you anticipate expenses and understand the nuances to hosting an event at a city-run facility.

Looking at venues in Boston for 250 people was a bit disheartening until Artists for Humanity was recommended to us. We knew we didn't want a hotel ballroom wedding and AFH offered us the perfect canvas. The space itself is beautiful, I'm sure you could spend thousands of dollars brining in lighting and flowers but it's entirely unnecessary. The rotating art installations are all incredible and we loved the cafe lighting that AFH offered. For our wedding we worked with Kristina and she was excellent. AFH has an exclusive catering agreement with Gourmet Catering which may sound limiting, but in the end I think was a blessing. It's clear that AFH and Gourmet have their events down to a science and Kristina worked extremely effectively with the Gourmet team. Kristina and AFH also went above and beyond, providing us with easels to use during the setup and additional supplies (tables, etc...) that we would have otherwise needed to purchase ourselves. Overall we got everything we wanted and more from AFH as a venue and Kristina as a coordinator.

The modern building is conveniently located in South Boston (my home base). It's a large 2 floor open space with updated art ranging from paintings to sculptures to using everyday items, such as car windows and strategically placing them as guard rails for the lofted second floor. The events I've been too have been catered with plenty of room for many vendors and floor space for dancing if necessary, which in my opinion is always necessary. The museum tells the story of JFK’s life from his childhood days to his assassination. This is a great venue located on the waterfront and close to many bars and restaurants if you want to eat or pregame before the show. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the layout is easily to get around and exiting after the show was a breeze. There were hardly any lines for the bathroom even after the event and there are many food and drink stands and merch shops. I did appreciate the covered tarp over the stage as a thunderstorm rolled into town that evening. You get the ambience of being outdoors but are protected from the elements. I sat in the VIP section but moved around a bit so I can say you get a pretty good view of the stage from anywhere in the venue. If you're in town or lucky enough to live in Boston and you're favorite artist is playing here don't hesitate to buy a ticket.

There is some metered parking on Tremont St, right outside of the theater, if you're lucky to find some, but if not, the Tremont St parking garage, that is attached to Tufts University hospital offices is available for parking as well. There is also a small parking lot, immediately south (the next driveway south of the Tremont St. parking garage), where parking is available by another provider/company. The theater is perfectly located one street across from Chinatown and two blocks south from Park Street/Boston Commons. So it is right in the middle of a very fun, and popular part of Boston, easily walkable to almost all of the attractions around Boston as well. We would certainly love to go back again, if the opportunity presents itself!

We also went to a tribute concert to Pink Floyd, by a band called Machine. In general, it's a well established venue with a restaurant and bar. It's pretty good overall but has a few significant downsides: The location downtown is hard to get to, wither it would take an hour by public transit, or you'd have to drive a car and pay over $30 to park in a nearby garage (and getting out of the garage after the show can take half an hour), or you take an Uber. There's no simple, easy or cheap to get there and back, unless you live downtown within walking distance. The tables and chair are pretty close and crowded, as they try to maximize the number of guests, but don't leave much room for standing and dancing. We could not enjoy good sound quality because the music volume was way too high, so we needed concert earplugs. Those are better than regular foam earplugs, but still they compromise the sound clarity. This is a problem in many music venues, they seem to think that very high volume is a good thing :-/ The waiters did not have make tags. We were also shoulder to shoulder with the tables behind us. The seating schematic on the ticketing chart showed groups of two tables when the tables were actually grouped in three so the end seats I selected were actually in the middle of 2 other connected tables. The doors opened an hour before the show but we didnt get any table service until 15 minutes before the show started. Waiting 45 minutes without ordering any food or a cocktails is completely unacceptable. There was a bar inside the concert area but they wouldnt take drink orders and insisted we continue waiting for table service. This makes no sense for an entertainment venue...not to meantion what a miss it is on revenue from a business perspective - insane! The entire set up was uncomfortable and required us to maintain a 90 degree neck angle in order to view the stage for the duration of this 2 hour show.There is zero room to adjust your chair or view since everyoneis basically sitting on top of each other. Might I add that I am a small person but left with neck pain. The service was poor, and food was just okay. Never again. Don't waste your money. Had I not spent $150 on tickets I would have left before the even show started.
