If you have a good amount of free time and like to do everything yourself, this is a good choice. You are quite literally only pay for the view (which is stunning in pictures, don’t get me wrong). There are soo many stunning venues around Indy that offer or even include services/products for you to use on your wedding day. They provide tables & chairs but you have to rent chair pads from another vendor. What kind of wedding venue makes you rent chair pads for dinner chairs? (Also not disclosed in the price). They also list in their packet that “security” and an on site coordinator is included. I didn’t see the “security” one time on my wedding day, and we met the on site coordinator early in the morning on the day of, then he was no where to be found the rest of the day. My DJ & other vendors ran into issues and had several questions unanswered because the venue coordinator was gone. ALSO i paid almost $1,000 for string lights to be hung on the terrace. (Also should be included or at least offered by Laurel hall in my opinion) the only decoration i really splurged on because it set the mood for the whole night and we had dinner on the terrace. No one could figure out how to turn them on/where to plug them in because we couldn’t find the venue coordinator. They were off most of the night… The ceremony chairs looked AWFUL (picture included but looked way worse in person) they mixed white and yellowish chairs?? And they were COVERED in bird poop. Looked absolutely terrible and I’m horrified my guests had to wipe them off. The last thing I’ll mention is that at the end of the night, everything was thrown into a room with TWO other wedding decorations/inventories. So the following day when we had to go back and pick up our stuff, the rental company and I had to DIG through trash bags full of table cloths for me to get mine back. It was absolutely ridiculous. I also still never found my black napkins from the wedding because everything was tossed all together and i just took the loss. I was told all of this would be looked into, but it wasn’t so I’m hoping another bride can take from this post. The day was beautiful and the venue is gorgeous. But that is all you are paying for is the view, the staff will be no help to you in any way. And at their price point & experience in this industry, you would expect much much more.

The staff that helped with the day were very personable and thorough. They turned the ceremony location around very quickly into the reception and it looked great! Crowds were light which made for an easy viewing of all exhibits. All the animals were active. Watched the cheetahs chase each other around. Then we were lucky to see them get feed raw meat by the zoo keepers. The dolphin show was fun. The tropical bird and butterfly enclosures were awesome to walk through. I'd highly recommend making this zoo a destination if you visit Indianapolis.

Even though the house is from 1890, they have updated with fast internet and there was plenty of room to roam and find a quiet space. The place was incredible. Only a few of very minor critiques. One is that the day of the wedding they provided snacks for my bridesmaids and I as we were getting ready. It was a tray of crackers, vegetables, etc. and when we asked for more, they said no, so we were all starving by the ceremony. Maybe I could've ordered more ahead of time, I'm not really sure. That being said, one of my bridesmaids keeps Kosher and they were very understanding about her bringing in her own food she could eat, which is normally against their policy. Another slight issue was I had submitted everyone's selected meals and their tables in advance, but they kept bringing my sister (my maid-of-honor) the wrong meal as she is vegetarian and they kept mixing up what dietary restrictions were at what table. They did fix it eventually and it was all good. Final thing is some aspects were slightly unorganized on that day, like when I was supposed to throw the bouquet, they didn't know where it was. I had a separate bouquet just for that so they should've had it as soon as the florist made their delivery that morning. Again, not a big deal at all, just a few awkward seconds while they had to search for it. These were all so minor in the grand scheme of things that they really didn't matter. Overall, highly highly recommend this venue for your wedding! We would do it again in a heartbeat if we could! As someone who planned a wedding without a wedding planner, they made the whole process as stress-free as possible. And I can't say enough kind words about Lauren because she was wonderful the entire year and a half of planning! This is a huge park with many nice features such as a huge pond, twin clock towers, and a lot of open space. We take our 2 small dogs here frequently. The entire staff was so incredible, easy to work with, and accommodating. They made our wedding day so very special and stress-free. There were not any hiccups on our wedding day thanks to the organization and attention to detail of our venue coordinator/event manager Brooke Fisher. Strangely, neither my fiancé nor I had issues with any other venue or vendor. Everyone else was able to reach us just fine. We genuinely wanted to make this work, but it’s clear the level of professionalism and care simply isn’t there. We were primarily in contact with Eva, and unfortunately, our experience with her reinforced that the venue’s team is either overwhelmed or uninterested in treating couples with the attentiveness and respect they deserve. We went through security & got a self guided tour pamphlet at the tour desk. I did call up in advance to check if they have guided tours, unfortunately they did not have one when we planned. I would recommend a guided tour, as it gets you in to the house and senate chambers. I did some research before visiting the capitol so was able to relate things. A very nice capitol building with ornate interior. It is beautiful and well maintained. The interior is modeled in the Italian Renaissance style with doors made of Indiana oak and Indiana limestone used throughout the structure. The pinnacle of the building is 256 feet high, it was the second tallest building in Indiana at the time of its completion. The four-story building is designed in the shape of a cross. A large central rotunda with a glass domed ceiling connects the four wing. The interior is marked by beautifully intricate blue stained glass dome, marble floors, granite columns, an ornate balcony, and period wall and ceiling designs. It was remarkable and best viewed from the upper floor. The Indiana Capitol is one of the few where all three branches of government still meet in the Capitol! There are stairs/or elevators to all the levels and each floor is different. The first floor houses the governor's office and the offices of the administration. Enjoyed walking around the third and fourth floors taking in the architecture and viewing the various chambers through the windows since they were not open for access. We saw the statues of past presidents and other public art structures surround the building. It's worth a visit learning something about history. This was one of the beautiful state houses I have been to and also one of the state house that didn't explain much about their rich history. We wouldn't have known much about their history if I did not do research prior visiting. We couldn't get much information on the two page pamphlet they provided. Also there was no attendant in the tour desk so no information was provided about anything. Comparatively I felt they didn't care about their visitors, so three stars. The entrance was not stroller friendly. There is paid parking and metered street parking around the building.

We chose ILC for our ceremony and reception due to the fact that there are two separate main event spaces, The Grand Hall and Cook Theater, that we could use to our needs. ILC also had their own parking lot and an elevator to get to the second floor mezzanine which are both hard to come by in a downtown historic venue. When we had to postpone our original May wedding due to Covid, Tara was a pleasure to work with when searching for a new date. She was easily accessible by phone and email and was so flexible with us when our guest count was continuously changing with the government restrictions. Tara, Maureen and Alan were all present on our wedding day and we can’t thank them enough for their hard work in making a beautiful wedding happen during a pandemic! I would highly recommend ILC for events as the team is great to work with, and the space is just beautiful with so many options for fitting small to large groups of people safely.

The getting ready space was perfect— plenty of room for the guys to hang out and the girls to get hair and makeup done, plus a divider if not seeing each other until the big reveal is important to you. Which I didn’t think to ask for, but you really don’t want to be figuring that out in a stall in your wedding dress 😂 And I think the guests enjoyed having the ceremony and reception all in one place and not having to travel. I do wish they provided some kind of FAQs list for brides or something. They did provide a list of suggested vendors, but I felt like I had no idea what I was doing, having never planned a wedding before. Stuff like what to do about dietary restrictions, or what length sparklers to buy for the send off, or who is supposed to cut the cake would have been helpful to have on hand. Overall, cannot recommend this venue enough for Indy brides. Truly was an incredible day, and I could not have asked for it to have gone any better.

We rented the venue unseen from another state for a corporate celebration being held in Indiana, and upon arrival we couldn't have been more pleased. While we waited for guests to arrive they turned on the self playing piano which added to the ambiance. Curt the owner was wonderful to work with from the start. He provided us with several details about the building and how he came to own it with his brother. You were never more than a tiny walk to a bathroom, great diaper changing areas, water bottle refills, and benches. The Playscapes area was great for our toddler to run around and burn off some energy. All three of our kids loved the outdoor sports exhibit! They played hockey, baseball, football, basketball, took a lap around the mini speedway, and climbed through the tree! This place has it all. The cafeteria was excellent for lunch and has a highchair. Lots of great learning and core memories made here! Cannot recommend enough!
