The surf can be fairly rough here so you really need to be careful in the water. Where you go in matters. If you can find the queens pond the surf may be less there due to the small reef. We watched from the shore as the waves suddenly got much bigger and chased people out of the water and then suddenly calm back down again. The drive in was rough due to the numerous deep potholes even in a jeep. Not too bad if you take your time. Some folks arrived in sedans, but you really need to pick your way around the potholes. Tip: to play it safe, there is room to park a few vehicles by the monkeypod tree. From there, you can walk 10 minutes on the small potholed road to the left for the shortest access to the beach. There are bathrooms. You can drive down the beach, but we didn't (and we went to this one first), and wouldn't recommend it. We just parked and walked down (short easy walk, just wear shoes bc the sand is HOT.) the beach is gorgeous and we pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. The waves were super fun to play in and the sand was amazing. One of our top 5 beaches!

The check in process was easy - they weigh you just outside the main office then give you a wrist band based on your weight so they know which harness to place you in. Then you hop in the back of their open truck for your ride to the tower. Truck ride was bumpy but it was nice to see this beautiful property and to hear all about the movies that used this incredible backdrop for their films. Our guides were friendly and amazing! Once you get to the tower, they suit you up and explain how to place your arms to go fast or slow. Then you walk to the top of the tower carrying your own trolley - the thing they place on the wire that your cables get attached to (I think that’s what they call it). Then you get hooked up to the cable and you are in a Superman position. And then you go!! It was a total rush to fly down over the trees 🌴. Thank goodness they have 3 brakes to slow you down at the end!! Just remember to tuck your chin at the end because when those brakes catch you, it can jerk you pretty good. Only wish they had a sign on the trees somewhere that warned you the end is near because the ride is quick! But totally worth it!!! We had a scheduling issue but our guide Corey worked with us and we were able to make the trip! He was really informative and pointed out plants and their historical relevance to the native peoples and was a great guide overall, very personable and interesting. The trail is not challenging for those that hike regularly but will be for those that don't or anyone with mobility issues especially if it is muddy. The waterfall is worth the trip for sure! Do be prepared to paddle hard if it’s windy. This isn’t like kayaking on a river where you get dropped off upstream and have a nice current to help you back. No sir, this is an adventure that requires constant paddling but it’s totally worth it. The hike to the falls was a nice break from the sun and was muddy but our water shoes and teva style sandals with good grip and sole worked well navigating some of the rocky areas and crossing water. The water is refreshing when you finally make it to the spectacular falls, even in January. Our guide was beyond fantastic at keeping us safe, entertained, and well informed of the awe inspiring jungle. This name was Cayman and I highly recommend him!

I’ve kayaked and traveled all over the world, since I was a kid and this was probably the top trip. Taking the zodiacs and catamarans is not the way. They treat the coastline like an amusement park, flying in and out of caves like it’s 6 flags. The owner’s Josh and Ivan took extra time to answer all questions and set us up for success. Our driver, Pickle, also went above and beyond to drop us off close to the airport so we didn’t have to make an unnecessary trip back to Hanalei. Cheers to the Na Pali Kayaks Crew!

Rented a lifted Wrangler Rubicon to get to the actual trailhead vs. hiking the extra eight miles round trip from the arboretum. We had a drizzly day, so were concerned that the water crossings on the road would be risky. Water over the roads was dead calm despite the rain, and we managed them with ease. The hike itself is slow-going. We did it without a guide and found the route-finding to be a little tricky at times. There is a fair amount of deep mud (up to knees in some places). The trail is mostly well defined with a lot of overgrowth in the chest/head area. We did a lot of hiking in a hinged position. My lower back was the most sore after the hike from this. I do love an active hike — little climbs, going in and out of water, dodging obstacles like fallen trees — and this one was ACTIVE! The payoff at the end was incredible. We had come the day before at 10am and all the canoes were gone!! Bring plenty of water, the hike to the falls is about 45 minutes and 1 mile, it's not hard though. Bring a swimsuit and water shoes or tennis shoes and a towel. It's also nice to bring a lunch to eat by the falls. When we were there in June 2019, you couldn't go to the Fern Grotto, the kayak landing was washed away in the storms of 2018. But after we went to the falls, we canoed up the river, it's very pretty. IMO, this is the BEST place to rent a canoe! It was $75 for 2 people and we didn't have to strap it on our car and we didn't have to row nearly as far as the people who rented kayaks/canoes in town. Our tour guide was fantastic (I can't remember her name) and my horse Luna was a great ride. We had incredible views of the mountains and learned about some of the local plants along the way. Highly recommend! Just a note for experienced riders: their horses are trained to ride "english style" which we were not used to so it took a little practice. But they give you time before you actually start the trail to get to know your horse and practice riding a little beforehand. These horses are used to a new person riding them every day and will try to test you to see what they will get away with! If you have no riding experience, that's fine too! They teach you the basics and the horses are very calm and will stick to the trail, since they are used to walking that path almost every day.

Being a beginner I didn't know what the heck I was doing riding a horse but our guide Nicole was very helpful. The ride takes you over a few small valleys to a place where you dismount and take to hiking through the jungle a bit to the waterfall. Lunch was served which were decent sandwiches considering Nicole had to bring all the food in a little napsack that she had to carry through the hike. We climbed up a very easy rock wall and over a part of the waterfall so our shoes got wet. Bring mosquito repellent as my wife and I got attacked by mosquitoes and came back with about 10 to 20 bites each. The ride back was on the same path which was kind of non eventful but overall a really great adventure.

As part of the tour we did three zip lines, swam in a water hole and did the 4x4 driving. It rained earlier in the day so it kept the dust down. There were not many puddles so we did not get too muddy. The course had some ups and downs along with some winding turns. Some of the turns were a little slick which added to the excitement. I topped out at 37mph during a straight way. The zip lines were very scenic. They traveled above and around a stream on the property. We really enjoyed the "zips". The swimming hole was nice but was kind of a time filler to inflate the duration of the excursion. I would have preferred to skip it and do more driving. Murph and justin were our guides. They were personable and shared some information about the local geographical landmarks and plants. They maintained a safe experience throughout the excursion. The scenic views were jaw dropping. Chris welcomes everyone with a smile and a keen focus on what you might need. I've never snorkelled with a prescription mask until Chris provided one (at the same cost as any other mask....this is unique). It changed the whole experience! He also lent me a noodle (floating device) that helped keep me afloat, provided lens defogger (no charge), and mapped out for us some of the best snorkel spots around the island. I ran out of time before my tee time and couldn't get back to rent his Ping left handed clubs for my round.
