I was greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome when I arrived in the evening by train. The room, bedding, and linens were first-rate - and it was a perfect place to recharge for the weekend amidst an extended business trip in France. The location is quiet, yet very accessible by foot to both the Cite de Carcassonne and the newer area as well. Having just recently taken ownership of the bed and breakfast, I look forward to seeing all the improvements Elaine will make to ensure this continues to be a sterling place to stay when in Carcassonne. The house is a characteristic southern French building that the owners have restored with great respect. The Townhouse is perfectly located right between the new and old town, meaning you can walk to either the old or new town within a few minutes. We stayed in the heritage suite and this is a large loft consisting of bedroom with a French balcony (large enough to stand on but not to sit on), living room and a bathroom. From the balcony we had a wonderful view of the old town. We loved that we got new towels every day, thank you for that, and the bed was also made nicely. The hostess is wonderful. She makes a different, delicious breakfast every day and is always very interested in what you're planning to do or have done the day in advance. She also has excellent tips on what to do and/or see in Carcassonne and the surrounding area. We also received very good tips from the hostess about restaurants in Carcassonne and these tips were great, we enjoyed this restaurant very much. It was also very nice to hear that the hostess had been on holiday near our home in the Netherlands a month ago (1200 kilometers away but it is a small world after all :) ) The room has no air conditioning but has 2 large fans. The apartment is actually part of a 17th century building that is being lovingly and passionately restored by Fred and Delphine to accommodate travellers like us wanting to be as close as possible to the middle of the action but not so close to be inconvenient and annoying. What was obvious was that we were being hosted by locals who had a real sense of their connection to their past and are doing their best to share this with their guests. Nuestra habitacion tenia ducha pero otras tienen la tipica bañera de loza con estilo retro. Especial atencion a las jaboneras, curiosas cuanto menos. El dormitorio cuenta con una cama de 150cm bastante comoda aunque un poco blanda para mi gusto, lo mismo que la almohada que es cilindrica y toda de una pieza, y a mi me gusta mas convencional y formato cuadrado, pero al final dormimos de maravilla. La decoracion y el mobiliario es muy calido entre una mezcla de clasico y moderno, con mucha madera que da una calidez y una sensacion de bienestar a la estancia. Cuenta con Aire Acondicionado, una television (con netflix), wifi, tetera electrica para hacerse cafe y te, botella de agua y agua con gas (sin costo). Hay bastantes echufes y clavijas USB para la carga. La iluminacion ambiente es una pasada y genera una atmosfera perfecta para parejas. Pasando al desayuno indicar que es sencillo pero de calidad, en una salita del patio interior que tambien tiene un mimo maximo en su decoracion. One tiny thing maybe could be added is a foot stool for the sofa as we like to put our feet up reading our book after a long day. The kitchen is well equipped even though we didn’t cook a single meal with all the amazing restaurants within walking distance. The bed is very comfortable and the shower was great. The balcony was very nice, we needed some cushions from inside for the chairs but that was no issue. We sat on the sofas by the pool reading our books one late afternoon and it was a sun trap. Felt like we were in the highs of summer, not mid-April! Loved it. If you arrive back one evening and fancy another drink, they have a fridge with wine (€10), bottles of beer (€2) and soft drinks (€1) available. You just pop your money in the red tin or fill a form and pay when you leave. A lovely idea. Overall, we loved it. Recommended without hesitation.

Upon entering the main doors we where shocked at the unkept dirty hallways leading to the apartment. This was worrying from the start. The hosts hallway was clean and tidy and well presented. When entering to room the host explained that she put a stud wall up to make a room for guests to stay and that she lives right next door. This made it really uncomfortable with any noise being made especially with the noise of walking on the floor, it hasn't been laid properly and squeaks very loudly when walking around the room in certain areas, it felt uncomfortable and annoying. The room is small containing a glass screened shower (no privicy) a private toilet, a sink, a fridge, kettle and coffee making equipment, a bed and a bath with jets, lights and bubbles. There was no other options for bedding only a thick quilt on bed which was uncomfortable as it was a warm night, no sheet. The saving grace for this apartment was the view. Whilst sitting in the bath you can look out to a beautiful view outside as this apartment in elevated to see all around. The host herself is very friendly and didn't rush us to much in the morning when leaving which was nice. On arrival she offered us a glass of local champagne and 6 pieces of local sausage. She also leaves from baguette and 2 croissants at 8.30 outside the door for breakfast. In the fridge there is jam, plain framage frise, 1 apple, 1 kiwi, fresh orange juice and milk. Overall the cost of staying here was not worth it. We sadly wouldn't recommend or stay again.

The owner comes and picks you up form the end of the cemetery and helps you park your car in the free parking and then takes you to your room inside the walls of the Cité de Carcassonne. While it wasn't that much of an advantage of staying inside it was a really nice place to stay. The family was warm and friendly and gave us some nice stories about his life. The rooms themselves are nice, bathroom is huge and clean. We were glad we choose this place over the very commercial looking Best Western. This family are one of the few actual residents inside the walls of the Cité de Carcassonne. Breakfast was nice too. I would recommend having it here too. You will not regret staying with them.
