For the $155/night we paid for the site, I could not recommend this place to anyone. Campsites are hard to come by in Big Sur, which is how we ended up here by default. If you are a family looking for a place to bring your young kids for the first time, or if you’re brand new to camping, this place might still be for you. We brought our toddler and stayed in one of the cabins. The cabin was nice and clean and had all of the amenities we needed (except for a microwave). We liked that even though we stayed in a cabin, it still felt like we camped! As someone who has worked in workplaces that are toxic, and empathizes with employees that might be going through something similar - I can read between the lines enough to know that the spa employees aren’t being taken care of or guided in the way that they should. When asking to be booked each time I’ve visited, the concierge (who are ALWAYS amazing!) usually tell me they are “fully booked” but I just know this isn’t true! I’ve also encountered the therapists (who are all, also AMAZING!) running short on supplies. I just feel something very heavy there, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. But it feels like and my sense is that they aren’t being supported, and that they also might be afraid to speak up due to unsupportive leadership? It simply doesn’t make SENSE! Post Ranch Inn is BY FAR the BEST resort I’ve ever come across! I’ve never seen the manager on shift when I visit so haven’t gotten to speak to him or her about this directly - but please check in with your spa employees well being - something seems amiss. Stunning location set in a quite redwood conservation area, with numerous trails and walks of various difficulties. Tried both the Pfieffer Falls and Canyon Views walks. Both achievable but can be steep and rugged in places. However once at the end either Stunning waterfall or views. Lodge where we stayed was comfortable, clean with a balcony looking into the forest. The main lodge had everything you'd need. Shop bar and restaurant with friendly staff who would assist you with any enquiries. The food was fresh and very delicious. Other areas include a swimming pool which was refreshing at 7pm (open 9am-9pm) looking upwards at the clear sky surrounded by trees. 100% satisfaction in staying here and highly recommended.

The cabins are surrounded by nature but if you wanna go hiking or see a river/creek or even walk to the beach this is the worst place to stay at. This is just a place to take pictures. There’s only one trail which leads up the mountain by a dirt road which is really sunny. And as you walk you find a sign that says that you can’t trespass so practically you can just see the ocean from far away but you can never access it from there and you cannot really walk into the woods. There is no TV or radio no amenities close by. The restaurant is closed in the afternoon. this is just a place to spend the night but not really enjoy your vacation because you have to drive out to dine or to hike or to go to the beach.. it’s very sad that such a beautiful location doesn’t have enough to offer

A day trip isn’t worth it imo, I would come back again for 3+ nights to truly unplug form the world.. but I’d need to be rich and bring a lamp! The landscaping is absolutely beautiful and whoever is in charge of it needs a raise. WOW!!! The decor and “vibe” of the place is super cute. The restaurants food was very good! We did breakfast- make sure to get a reservation for dinner! Not a whole lot of access to walk around- you will need a vehicle to do anything other than go to the on site restaurant. The rooms are DARK DARK DARK!! Think candle lit.. I think this is the vibe they are going for. This make it hard to get dressed. Someone with vision impairment would likely be totally blind in these rooms.. even in certain parts during the daytime. There are NO LOCKS ON THE DOORS!!!! Do not bring valuables. The price is A LOT. It’s like expensive cosplaying living before electricity- no WiFi no tv no radio essentially candle lit meals and rooms.

To be more descriptive- there was NO fireplace and the cabin was practically like a studio- the space had just enough room for a big bed and a dining area and an awkward empty space between that and the opposite wall with the kitchen and bathroom. On top of that, NO RUG and NO SOFA. Not to mention, there were missing utensils and a broken oven in the kitchen. The amenities were NOT the same, yet the prices were for both of the cabins I stayed at. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The back porch was also pitiful with the leaves not swept at all. The bathroom had cobwebs casually flying around over the showers as well. Whatever excuse the resort has for maintaining this type of “rustic” ambiance is unacceptable for $250/night (at the time I stayed). If I wanted to be closer to the spiders, I would have paid to be at a campsite. You’re better off paying at least $100 more per night at a more reputable and upkept hotel like Big Sur Inn or get a more commercialized hotel in Carmel and deal with the long drive if you want proper accommodations. My second experience here had scared me off from wanting to get any rustic-type cabin again. Take my experience with a grain of salt as you will and look elsewhere if you have other options available.

Note the cabins look cool, but don’t allow dogs :-( They have a mandatory $30 fee which included a bundle of firewood, two mugs and free ice and coffee. It’s a good point to stay when down in Big Sur even for one night. Last note that I’ll make is you should definitely come prepped with your own firewood because the firework bundle at the site is $14 and that’s actually the cheapest in the area. Everywhere else is even more expensive. I stayed in campsite number 37. It’s about a 20 foot walk from the parking space uphill to the site, but it is completely away from everyone and one of the largest sites at the camp. It’s also very flat so there aren’t any issues about sleeping on a hill. I enjoyed it because I feel like I had the most privacy. It’s also not a far walk from the bathroom. The next largest sites that have the best privacy are sites 29 and 27. I could definitely see myself coming back here in the winter and renting a cabin. It is a very cool scene. There really is no service so be prepared to disconnect. There is Wi-Fi however it’s just a little section over by the camp shop which means that you won’t have access to the Wi-Fi at your campsite. It’s also about 20 miles into Big Sur which means that you’re close to the state parks and can get Access to the parks quickly before the crowds start. I also like to know that I did this trip completely solo and there wasn’t a moment at this campsite where I didn’t feel safe. So if you’re a female solo traveler, this is definitely a good campsite to go to.

The property is multi-level, and many rooms offer the option of being able to park just a few feet away from the entrance to your room. The place is extremely dated and although they want to keep true to the theme, which seems to be vintage cottage Germanic, it does need some tidying up. I do prefer the redwood cabins over the canyon glamping experience. I am a person who has to make multiple trips to haul their stuff up to the site. It is a hike to get into that site. I was lucky enough to stay in the same Canyon cabin that I stayed at during my first visit. When I first came there were restrooms and more amenities. There was a convenience to the canyon cabins. Each year I have come here the amenities have decreased. Most recently all the restrooms were removed. Meaning, if you needed to use the restroom you would have to hike down for 5 mins to get to the bath house. As a woman this is a disservice to us all, especially for someone who may need to use the restroom at any given point at night. And it is pitch black at 5:30PM. Walking down a dirt and loose graveled ground in the dark with even a lantern is not ideal nor comfortable. This is where the glamping was non existent. Additionally the surf stream was not open once during my stay. The towels given to me during the stay as well were stained and had brown markings on them. This was never an issue prior. I loved coming here, but I am reluctant to book another stay.

Beautiful blue birds came around. I was bummed that the Airstream Cafe was always closed the two days we stayed. We were told they were open until 8pm. Hiked up to see and cafe was closed. I guess it is tree trimming time because you can hear that all day. Location not to far from many trails, restaurants, the beach.

You’ll be so close to the airport anyway, and there’s no need to stay in Monterey when you can enjoy such a lovely stay from just a couple of minutes south at the Carriage Inn. I rarely post reviews but this feels too beautiful of a place with the best customer service to not post them a review. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!
