There were no noise issues at all and maybe that’s because I had a room that faced the backwards the pool. Really, I had an excellent stay after the three days of deprivation in the Amazon river. Breakfast was good quality, tv selections plentiful and beds very comfortable. Mr Jim remained with me to assure my safety and support during this very difficult time for me. Upon returning, a wonderful suite was prepared for me. The staff handled my luggage and offered assistance in any way possible. They even charged my phone and delivered it to my room. Mr Jim worked with me with flights charges necessary for my return home. (This was hard, tedious detailed work, but his patience, all was set for my return home. Even getting me a wheelchair at all changes at airports). Last but not list, a delicious meal was brought to my room. While the price is affordable I would recommend spending a few dollars extra to go somewhere else. I had a reservation for 5 nights and 2 of those nights I had left for a jungle tour but intended to keep my bed because the staff wasn’t willing to help me with cancelling the two nights and it wasn’t worth canceling and rebooking online. When I returned from my tour I found out that they had double booked me bed and someone else was sleeping in it despite the fact that I had already paid for the bed, they wouldn’t help me refund even though it was within the cancellation window and they didn’t notify me. I used their laundry service and it was supposed to take 24 hours but it was returned after 36 hours and when I opened the bag my clothes were still wet and some pieces had soap visible on them. No resolution was offered for either problem. Staff tended to not care or have a sour attitude at times, with the exception of Marcel, he was always friendly. Whole place is pretty run down, the cleaning staff does a pretty good job keeping bathrooms and common areas clean however.

Jungle House is near the end of a street that is blocked off to regular traffic, with a public balcony steps away that overlooks the Mamay River which feeds the Amazon. If we travel back to Iquitos again, the Jungle House, for the money, is the only accommodation we would consider.

We had an incredible experience during our 6-day stay at Tahuayo Lodge and Amazon Research Center. There’s so much to do — from jungle hikes to canoeing through the stunning black-water rivers, which are absolutely perfect for photography. We visited both the southern and northern Amazon during our 2-month trip to Peru, and while both were beautiful, we found the most diversity in the north. One of the biggest highlights was having our own private guide and boat throughout the trip — an absolute dream for photography lovers. Our guide, Lander, was amazing: knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about sharing his expertise, especially when it came to spotting birds and coaxing out shy ones. The fact that Wi-Fi was only available in the main lodge wasn’t an issue at all — if anything, it made disconnecting and enjoying the Amazon even easier. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always making us feel welcome. Special mention to the bartender, who crafted some of the best Pisco Sours we had anywhere in Peru! The food was also better than expected — not fine dining, but hearty, flavorful, and surprisingly varied considering everything was prepared right there in the middle of the jungle. Combined with the warm hospitality and all the activities offered, staying at Tahuayo Lodge was an unforgettable experience we highly recommended!

The communication from the start was always helpful and responsive, and the company was accommodating in last minute flight changes etc. The boat trip on the Amazon river to the lodge itself was amazing and we were lucky to spot pink river dolphins on the return journey. It was a real home away from home. It was quiet but just a short walk to the hustle and bustle of Iquitos. I would recommend staying in Iquitos and doing a day trip out on the water, the excursions aren’t unique and are the same ones everyone on day trips do, Food: the food is terrible, we had bread so stale you would snap it in half (not even toasted!) the buffets in pictures are not for you—again they are for people visiting the lodge on day trips and only provided for you if a group comes on a day trip, otherwise you are eating what you are served, don’t like it? Too bad, you go hungry there is no other choice , the food is basic (rice and grilled meat no flavour) not even desserts or breads. Accomodation: the rooms itself were nice enough for a lodge. No turndown service. However, there is no service at the lodge, by this I mean if you want to order a drink and enjoy your holiday—no one is there, they are in the kitchen or hiding away or in their phones not caring about you, god forbid you got bitten by a snake or spider! You’d have no one to help you. This was especially hard because our guide (only present for excursions) was the only one who spoke English and was not there to communicate with staff who isn’t speak English for the remainder of the time at the lodge Adventure park: god help me this was so dodgy, nails and rust everywhere, I cut my leg on the zip line because a huge nail was sticking out the side. Not up to western health and safety standards. Avoid! Service: there is an English speaker who does the online bookings which is fine unless something goes wrong, when we have our honest review we were told we were liars because they asked their own staff. I don’t mind having a bad experience if the company wants to improve but if anything goes wrong just know you’ll be on your own, I see many other reviews say the same thing. Value: all of this I would have shrugged off if it was cheap but it is not, really unacceptable service for this price. Do yourself a favour and either splurge for the treehouse, cruise or stay in Iquitos and do a day trip out on the river, it is below hostel standards. I do not recommend and wish i read a review like this before I booked. Edit: this response from the owner is full of lies, I see other reviews have the same response.(“from different nationalities” see again how they don’t value English speakers..yikes) be prepared for this kind of treatment in her response…if you don’t agree, you’re basically mad.
