Belinda was exceptional with her warmth, friendliness, humour, patience & caring. She was extremely accommodating, helping us to adorn the table with some flowers we’d brought, delaying the start of meal by 40 mins due to one of the group having transport problems, enabling us to stay on after the booking for a further three hours (13-18hrs). All of the small plates ordered were tasty and the large kebabs and the botanist bowl were all very much enjoyed. The staff, food, atmosphere, and a big emphasis on the drinks. Monday through Friday from 4 to 7pm you can enjoy happy hour, I certainly did. The brunch its self was in a quiet room upstairs away from the atmosphere of the bar. We started are brunch at 8pm and there was one other group there at the time it just had no vibe there. The drinks were very slow and after waiting awhile for another order my friends went to the bar its self and tried placing an order but were told the server would be over in a minute and to wait and that took an extra 5 minutes. After that the service was a bit better with drinks at least. I kept asking where the food was and it didn’t turn up till 9:30pm when we started at 8pm. My friend did complain about the food and we had a discount off the price which was good and a tray of free shots. I’d be more underwing if they were busier but it was quiet and the fact it was pre ordered made me more annoyed. Probably the best vintage inn I've been to in terms of food, staff and location. Service here is really great; the staff make you feel welcome from the moment you are seated. I imagine the bar can get busy at times, particularly on a hot day. One thing I'll say is I feel sorry for the staff with the build up of drinks glasses - doesn't seem to be much room to keep on top of them. Maybe an extra dish/glass washer would be useful for them. Wife and I both had starter and then pork belly for main. Food was presently beautifully, top marks for the kitchen here. Scallops were a bit bland, could've done with some seasoning and the crackling served with it probably would've been nice if you want a risk a dentist trip, but the rest was stunning. Good atmosphere and bonus points for being dog friendly! Overall 9.5/10 if you are looking for some British pub food or a few bevvies.

The first time I have ever been here. I noticed how busy and buzzing the atmosphere was. Booking in and signing the waiver was a bit of a chore. However, it is an important part of the Axe throwing activity. Which was professionally run with a trustworthy coach, who explained everything and made sure everyone was safe. It also had some air-con which was was really nice as I've been in a karaoke booth elsewhere before that got extremely hot and sweaty - despite it being winter. Probably one of the worst starts to a evening in town. With a table and darts booked, we arrived a little ahead of time and the table was ready, drinks ordered, some food ordered we thought we were in for a decent night. Nearly an hour later and we ask about our food and some of it comes, a further 30 mins we ask about the rest. 3 different staff members say "they'll go check on it" each time 10/15 minutes goes past and we have no update. Nearly 2 hours passes and we ask to speak to a manger, who said "oh there's system issues and none of it came through" nearly 2 hours after ordering to get told that it was an issue on their side. A very brief apology and no real effort to resolve or admit it was a mistake out of our control. We finally get our food but at that point we had wasted 30 mins speaking to multiple staff and trying to get some food to go on and enjoy our night. Such a shame as the top floor beer garden was lovely with a decent vibe. If they could get food done to even just and acceptable standard and some empathetic and accountable staff, this would be worth the visit. With this in mind, I would avoid at all costs unfortunately.

One where we were assured at the bar before ordering that a football game was being televised, only for it not to be shown. The manager refused to put the game on one screen for our group despite what we'd been told at the bar. Ended up leaving to watch the game elsewhere but had wasted money on a pint. We recently gave the pub another chance only for service to be poor again. We ordered some 0% Guinness and we're given 2 cans of different sizes yet charged the same. When we queried this, the barmaid told us they had a shortage of 0% Guinness cans. When pushed on why we were paying the same for different sized cans, we were simply told that they'd run out of the pint cans and it is what it is. The pub was also freezing, punters sitting in coats and hats, no radiators on in the winter. These experiences made us feel totally devalued as customers and made us want to spend our hard earned money elsewhere. Shame as it used to be a really great place.

Prior to the trip I’d done some research and found that the Corner House’s menu looked rather appealing therefore decided to book a table on the Tuesday evening to dine there. We were slightly early upon arrival from our reserved time however there were plenty of places to sit and we were quickly shown to a downstairs table. The venue looked clean and presentable and there were a few other people in during the time of our visit however it wasn’t overly crowded or busy. The service was good and the waitress was quick to take our orders. Overall, I’d say the service was quick and we didn’t seem to be waiting long between courses. They were also prompt to bring the bill when requested and to take payment which is good. The menu items were a little on the pricy side depending on what you ordered therefore I expected it to be good decent tasty food. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel this was the case although all of the food was nice it didn’t exactly wow me or bowl me over and left me feeling a little disappointed. To start I opted for the Pan Fried King Prawns at £10.50 which were tasteless, didn’t really taste of anything. The main was slightly better, I ordered Signature Duo of Pork at £21.25 and I did request the dish with additional scallops but they didn’t have any which was disappointing. The dish itself however was nice. My partner opted for the ‘dirty burger’ and at £21.50 you’d probably expect it to be something special however upon arrival it looked just like any other burger you’d get from any restaurant nothing overly special about it at all. I opted for dessert and had Toffee Crème Brulee at £9.75, not sure what I was expecting with this, the menu said strawberries and there were no strawberries on the plate I’m guessing they didn’t have any. The portion size seemed rather small considering how much I paid for it and once again wasn’t anything special about it. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the food here lives up to the expectations, although it was nice that’s all I can really say about it. Perhaps if I had chosen different dishes my experience would have been better. However, from what we did eat I believe it to be over priced especially the burger my partner opted for. The price point doesn’t really reflect the taste I expected, I thought it would be food I’d rave about for ages afterwards but it was quickly forgettable. We booked a table on a rugby day there was only a match day menu which was fine (although it was very limited to only burgers and loaded fries). However it felt like the staff didn’t take my allergy seriously. Told them I had a dairy allergy and the staff member did ask the chef what I could have but the match day menu only had burgers on there and there was no alternative bun option, no gluten free or anything I find that really bazar that in this day and age there is no alternative options for people with allergies. They offered me to have the burger with no bun however I opted to just go for fries instead they assured me the fries were fine. However there should be seperate fryer for vegans etc so this is ridiculous! I saw them write down my order and there didn’t seem to be any mention about my allergy. They also had 10% off drinks when you order through the QR code however they removed all the QR codes off the table so no one could use it. Entrance to the cafe is easy. Ambiance was good. It was tidy and staff seemed welcoming but were too busy- which is good. Toilet was clean, overall arrangement was impressive. Apart from temperature which was colder for a coffee place, overall experience was good. I’d definitely recommend their Flat White.

They have very knowledgeable and passionate (not to mention kind, friendly and hilarious) staff. The interior design is immaculate and the atmosphere is always perfect! They also host great events with live bands/comedy. It’s on the pricey side, but I think it’s worth it, especially hearing the owner’s exiting plans for further renovations! It’s also dog friendly :) It’s a great spot to study, but there are limited tables that allow laptops, so sometimes it gets tight for workspace. Also there’s no free wifi at weekends. This is just because the turnaround got real slow - since it’s so nice, people wanted to stay and study all day (us included!). The rules for laptops and wifi definitely help the atmosphere, because it keeps the place more social! They also sell great beans that they roast here, and coffee equipment :) Our favourite things to get are the vegan chocolate cake, the toasties, lattes, and V60s!
