Steak and Ale pie, cooked fresh, and a seafood linguini. This place wasn't our first choice as it looked a bit shabby, but basically there was nowhere else serving lunches within walking distance. Can't comment on the atmosphere as we were the only ones there but the staff were lovely. The girl who met us was very friendly, with a cheeky joke about how busy they were that made us laugh. Our waiter was brand new today but none the worse for it, very attentive and friendly. The food was very, very good. We were pleasantly surprised. I'd like to have seen bigger portions, I'm a bit greedy that way but it was very tasty. We finished with a shared Ganache for dessert, which was really good, but again, a wee bit small. The place inside just needed a bit of, polish, it just felt a bit shabby, not dirty, just tired, but maybe that's to be expected at the end of the holidays. Thankfully this hotel had a cancellation that we managed to book. On arrival we were just hoping it was going to be better than the last place, we were greeted with a lovely guy who was very cheery and helpful trying to get us some dinner, instantly we knew this was going to be better, he made sure the room was perfect for us and that it was…. The view from the bedroom window right onto the sea was incredible, the style of the room too, stylish but super comfortable. Listening to the waves at night was a delight!! Every staff member we came across was super friendly and took an interest into the wedding we had been at that weekend at making sure we had a great time. The breakfast was the best breakfast I have ever had sooo tasty!! This place really felt like home away from home and I honestly can’t wait to return!! The staff really made the experience what it was!! So personal even though they were really busy!! Massive thank you to you all!! We can’t wait to return for hopefully a longer stay.

We were in a turret room in the main hotel building - which was lovely. The public areas around reception are very welcoming, and the gardens and grounds were great for a stroll (even in November). The bar area was ideal for a cosy drink, and for less formal dining. Breakfast was also great (the omelette Arnold Bennet a particular highlight). Finally the staff were universally friendly and efficient. A couple of things are worth noting however which could be an issue for some. 1) The main restaurant isn't open Mondays or Tuesdays at this time of year, so there's a more restricted menu in the evening 2) The hotel is a mile or two out of the centre of St Andrews, without a continuous footpath connection (or immediate bus access). That means that it's a lovely oasis of peace, but you might need to use a car, or call a taxi, to get into town - especially if the weather is inclement. Highly recommended nonetheless

Grounds were lovely, very farm to table vibe, the best you can get if you like this “type” of place: private, high end, thoughtful and rural. Room was spacious, warm and cosy with a very comfortable bed. The bar has a good selection of beers and an amazing selection of whisky on offer. The bar menu was good, although only a single vegetarian option, but I'll forgive that as what was on offer was very tasty. Breakfast was another level. Porridge, obviously, but you could order it with a variety of toppings, including Drambuie! I also had the poached eggs with wilted spinach on muffin which was wonderful. Service throughout my stay was on point! Will definitely stay again if I'm in the area!

Alison really is a credit to this team she has been so helpful. Overall the other staff we have met have all been helpful and very friendly. We are already planning our next visit. Highly recommend.

The restaurant was fully booked but this was fine as we wanted to sit outside on the glorious night. We both had burgers and while £22 seemed expensive reading it on the menu - the burgers were delicious!! The patty was thick, came with lovely toppings and a generous helping of some real tasty chips and onion rings! (I had eaten a good few before this picture). I would call by again as a treat as we did spend more than we expected but quality makes you forgive this. Watching the sun set here was great! They have done a fantastic job, modernising but keeping that old baronial home feel. The food was good and the service and staff excellent. Our breakfast the next morning ,again afforded a great view of the course and the food was excellent. We knew once we emailed a few different hotels who we were going to stay with as the Rusacks got back to us with the full details and the hotel seemed far more dog friendly as some of the others hotels we emailed, some came back with basics and other just with their pet policy. But the Rusacks gave loads of good info so that was a major plus and why we booked. However, the service at dinner was extremely slow! It would consistently take 35-40 to get a cocktail or glass a wine. It was the strangest thing to watch. The dining experience is very limited so not much choice of different eating places. Breakfast food and nice choices. Attention to detail could be better especially when arriving at 4pm and rooms still not ready and when rooms finally ready, shower gel bottles empty in both rooms. Spa treatment times for facials not available despite having massage times, couldn’t quite understand that. Swimming pool was nice although temperature of pool cold. Dinner reservations were an issue on both nights, asked to move earlier as the kids hungry and due to room no t being available this time wasn’t suitable to then be told sorry can’t fit your reservation in for later time and then being called from reception to say you need to run to the restaurant. We all rushed to get there to sit and price that all empty seats for the full night in the restaurant. Luckily next day checked with restaurant times to find that they had moved the times again to earlier which wasnt asked for to again be told earliest they could move was 9pm. Once highlighted this was there error with moving dinner times without our consent they manged to change to original time after accepting it was there error. Overall we had a nice time but could have been better.

This is a stunning hotel with a great vibe about it. Only negative was the shuttle bus service. When we arrived we learned that it only ran once per hour and had only 7 seats. However our room, although adequate, was a little tired looking. The main issue was that it faced the main road that was very busy with large vehicles passing all night that stopped us sleeping. Really needs triple glazing. Food in the restaurant was nice and the waiting staff very pleasant and helpful. Housewhite Malbec was lovely. Main issue was breakfast, served from 7-9am, had ran out of plates, cups, yogurts by 8am. Choice was limited and very poor for vegetarians. Although there was a choice of alternative milks there was only butter, mushrooms and beans. Only two cereal choices. Coffee was offered from one filter machine which was completely inadequate for a full dining room. Other similar hotels we've stayed at have always offered some nod to a Scottish breakfast. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this hotel.

Service was variable...some staff were really good and others just rude.....to everyone. Breakfast wasn't great....everything was overcooked and dried up.....but was also cold! Plenty of parking with overflow for commercial vehicles too, which was handy. But our room was absolutely melting hot, it was hard to stay in it. I asked if there was any fans available and the answer was no. The receptionist also understood our pain, but all she was able to do is to check if the heating is off and to say that it is an old building. I understand no one can turn off the heat outside, but charging £120 for a night and not including a fan is ridiculous, when restaurant and reception area had A/C going full blast. Service at the restaurant was great. We had dinner and breakfast. Staff in a restaurant was ace, food on the other hand wasnt. Chicken tasted like plastic was overcooked. The breakfast lady was doing her best. She was serving the whole restaurant herself and she was so busy, running like a headless chicken. Please give her more staff for breakfast, poor lady was doing laps like a marathon!!! Breakfast was lovely, but because the lady serving it was so busy, she barely had time to top up condimental breakfast table, so we did not get what we would have wanted. Overall, would not dare to stay there again or recommend it to other people. For the price I paid for the night, I definitely felt like I am being robbed off.
