It's been around for well over 100 years. The staff here is wonderful. They're very friendly, efficient, and helpful. If you're looking for something special, they can make it happen. The number of different pastries that are available is pretty amazing. It seemed like that had everything imaginable: Cakes, pie pies, cupcakes, cookies, donuts, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, bear claws, muffins, strudels...you get the picture. The cakes and the pies looked the most delicious. Unfortunately, I didn't have any of those. None of the pastries looked particularly good. I can't explain it but they just looked flat. They tasted that way too. Too dense for my liking, not flaky or fluffy. I was disappointed and surprised. The coffee was good. There are small picnic tables in front of the bakery and on the side of the building. It's very cozy. There was plenty of parking on the street and a smaller parking lot next to the bakery. There's also a drive-thru where you can pick up your orders on the run. I'm glad I visited saw this historic bakery. I don't think I'll be back for pastries again. My entire family had nothing but bad things to say about the beans, chalupas, enchiladas and generic quesadillas. How can you mess up quesadillas? In fact the conversation was just about how bad the food was all around and how the service didn't make it any better. I asked for an Easy KPOP themed square sheet cake for a childrens bday party. Pretty standard piping designs. But It seemed every time I talked with the decorating staff they were angry or annoyed. First I was told the icing style I wanted wasn't possible for a square cake. My Pinterest example was a round cake. Fair enough, so I provided a flat sheet cake design for easy transportation. In my image the toppers were laid flatly on the cake. When I gave them my cake decorations I was told the icing colors in my photo example would not match my decorations. I literally gave them a pretty standard kpop sheet cake example from pinterest with an Amazon bought kpop decorations. At this point I tried to manage their attitude and said they could take liberty with design and color, that the image was just a guideline. I said " I trust you, you are the artists." When I picked up the cake, that's when the anger from the cake designer started again. She gave me an open boxed cake with clear plastic wrap making the cake twice the size in height. I tried to explain that I needed to transport the cake two times, as my party was the following day, and having an open box with toppers popping up on it wasn't ideal to transport in my car. Could we please take the toothpicked large happy Birthday topper out so I could transport it with the lid closed. Also the cake would not fit in my home fridge with the large toppers on it. She was livid. She said something to the effect of, "I'm the professional I know what I'm doing." It all went downhill from there. I tried to be patient and nice with these workers but they are on default MAD mode. Lesson learned. Stick with the other local bakers like Naegelin's! They treat you nicely and provide friendly customer service. Update: my party goers said the cake was delicious and the end look was beautiful. I will give credit where due! Super moist and super chocolaty! It was also beautifully decorated. Wonderful flavor, texture, everything. This was the first professional birthday cake I've ever had as I always grew up baking my own due to Celiac since I was diagnosed in 2003. If you are *sensitive* Celiac, note that there may be cross contamination. They communicated it to me before I paid but luckily I'm not as sensitive to that so it wasn't an issue. I highly HIGHLY recommend their cakes for anyone that's gluten sensitive, use discretion if Celiac.
