These seem to be uniquely British, I haven‘t found them in many placed. After hitting a few places Google said were the „best near me“ - this place had the best pies I‘ve had outside of London. The place is tiny, and, combined with a record shop. Walking by you would not likely choose this as a lunch spot - but that would be your error. I chose the „Sook Chook“, a chicken & veggie pie, which had a lovely flaky crust, served with a local Portsmouth beer. Service was pleasant and friendly. I attended with my daughter after looking for somewhere local serving quality food, the menu is small but simple and versatile, options for meat eaters, vegan, vegetarian and everyone alike. Everything is freshly made onsite and prepared with love, the staff were friendly but not imposing, very helpful with explaining the menu which has extensive add-ons without being extreme, they just allow you to build your meal your way, My daughter had the minted lamb pie with mash and peas and gravy, she enjoyed it but noted that having minted pushy peas and mint an lamb pie was too minty, something she can correct next time and no reflection on the quality or niceness of the food, i had the Jackfruit pie with mustard mash, minty mushy peas and gravy with crispy onion and cheesy topping, wow, a real journey in the mouth, a journey, each mouthful was an explosion of flavour, the portion size is very generous, turn up hungry if you order and be prepared for musical journey in your mouth, the atmosphere adds to the experience, being surrounded by the nostalgia of talented musicians in the form of sound, really nice music playing in background and visually, your surrounded by iconic figures in photos, records (Vinyl) and musical ambiance, the tables and chairs are quirky interesting and full of historic life. Oh and tea in a Pot, with China cups, you cant go wrong, attention to detail is well thought out and enticing, screaming out care, love and thoughtfulness. We were delighted to sit at the Chefs table at this wonderful discovery, having missed our ferry over to Normandy due to the Bank Holiday traffic. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and friendly with a really nice atmosphere. The kroketten were the perfect starter (one of each, crayfish, cheese and ham hock and cheese) along side the stoofrites with 3 beer beef carbonade. Chips in gravy on a whole other level! It took a lot of self-contol to not pick up the bowl and drink the gravy once the chips were gone! The bloody mary moules et frites were simply outstanding, perfectly cooked mussels in tomato sauce with vodka, celery, tabasco and sun-dried tomatoes. The croque monsieur was the best my friend had ever eaten and she cleared the plate despite the very generous portion. I was a bit ambitous ordering the waffel dessert but glad I did just to see it in all its glory. Add in a fantastic selection of beers , and you’ve got the perfect spot for a meal. Managed to find some on street parking not far from the resturant which was a bonus. We went into the place at opening and it was peacefully quiet. We stepped in through the front door and the hustle and bustle of the street disappeared. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. There is an extensive normal menu and also a special one - shown in photos. We had to take a good while to choose something to drink - there is SO much choice beer wise! I couldn’t drink (driver) so when I spotted the non-alcoholic beers I was very happy! Food wise we ordered the bitterballen and Krocketten (one of each type) to start. They were a decent portion and flavours really good, they were all different. We shared all 3 between 3 adults. For mains we all ordered something different. The mussels, the waffle burger and the croque - Philly Funghi. The service was a tad longer than expected - we were one of a few tables in at that point however when it arrived it was clear it was worth the wait! The presentation was really good, food was hot and they all arrived at the same time. The only downside on mine (the Croque) was it was very spicy. The pepper sauce was very strong. I tried to tame it with some mayo but it didn’t do a lot so I left a fair bit of it after eating what I could. When we go back I know not to have this now which is a shame. All the ingredients are things I like but it was too spicy for me. The waffle burger was tasty, the waffle fluffy and complements the burger well. The mussels were hot, the sauce was good, strong in flavour and not watery which is easily done. Parmesan fries were really nice! A welcome change from normal chips. Very pleased I upgraded to those with my croque. It is worth noting they don’t do a kids menu here. We had a main meal for an adult and the child to share (was ample portion size) and we ordered the Stoemp for them to eat. Can’t go wrong with mash, cheese and veg lol. The Gouda bites were nice too! We loved the little touches in the place, the decor and the shop that they have. We bought some of the pretzel chocolate and it was gooood! We will be returning :)

The food is not only outstandingly delicious but its an experience and the courses made for you take you on a journey...its really quite something. Friday just gone we were at the restaurant and a new young trainee waiter served us ( actually it was his first day ) he was lovely and got everything right for us and it was lovely to see him being kindly guided by the restaurant owner. We're visiting Portsmouth and just got off the train. After arriving, the nice waitress got us seated. The place is really warm and cosy, but fairly busy. We ordered the large portion cod and haddock, along with the loaded chips and a children's set. We were really hungry, so hopefully, that was enough. The food was served in about 10 minutes, and we're stunned by the portion. The cod and haddock were insanely huge, and the taste was crispy, juicy, and tender. The loaded chips were a pot of about 700g? AND it was not possible that we could finish all our food. Honestly, the kid's set is about a normal portion... when we asked the waitress for takeaway boxes, she kindly gave us two and was really nice and friendly. Things didnt get any better as having ordered 14 plates....it all arrived in under 10 minutes??? Lowlights included: Flank steak arriving but stone cold Caukiflower steak in Katsu sauce, being a quarter of cauliflower and deep fried. Unfortunately this resulted in a half edible, half raw bland mess Aubergine with feta, was a sad mistreatment of aubergine where theyd gutted it and used it basically as a shell (total waste) Beetroot Cerviche....not sure what was going on here as it looked and tasted lile someone had just diced aload of jarred beetroot and served it up. Prawn tacos....tasted suspicously overly fishy Potato bravas....stone cold! The only highlight were the pork belly and beef Ragu, (piping hot) both of which were admitedly very tasty That however is 2 out of 14!!!! With the speed it come out i would guess that all the dishes are prepared and 'ready to go' and are constantly being made and topped up which is why the Ragu came out piping hot and everything tepid or cold! Was alao £6 for a warm Modelo 330ml bottle and £55 for an uninspiring bottle of Rose We didnt have dessert and were in and out in under an hour. Conveyor belted sprang to mind Definitely wouldnt go back.

On a short 3 day break to Portsmouth I booked here after reading reviews online. Loved it so much we went twice. Food outstanding. Had prawn tacos, patatas bravas, steak, pork belly, to name a few. Great selection of cocktails. We were given complimentary drinks as an apology for service being a little behind, which was a nice touch. Book ahead if you want to eat here as very popular. Everyone really enjoyed their food and the cost was reasonable and there were plenty of different options for different price ranges. I had the lobster and it was delicious. It was almost full and we had no reservation but table for 3 was fine. I'm Spanish and a bit reluctant to go to southern european restaurants in the UK due to disappointments on many occasions. Then bacalhau (fantastic), lobster (didn't try but friend say it was great) and fish skewer (just okay, as the salmon was not well done and a bit raw-ish inside, but prawns and other fish were good). Yes it's 19 for the bacalhau but that's the price of a Sunday roast these days which much lesser quality produce. They have a lot of deals during the week tbh. On entering my booking was not in the system. I was seated upstairs at an awful table. The ambience of the restaurant is really nice, however I was seated in the door way, against a wall, back to the restaurant and facing the stairwell/till. I felt really unwelcome. I understand single diners are a pain, but nicer seats were available. The two severs pulled it back massively however, and were polite and attentive, proving great service and recommendations. I had the Crispy Pork Belly Bites to start, these were pretty nice, I enjoyed them, but wouldn’t order them again. For my main, I ordered the Giant King Prawn Pad Thai. Though the pad Thai didn’t quite take me back to the streets of Bangkok, I did enjoy it, and the king prawns were outstanding. I would like the recommend giving a knife with this dish as it was difficult to get the meat from the prawns. I also noticed there was tofu, and fewer prawn I the noodles than expected. Overall, a strong dish though. For drinks, I was happy to see Singha was on the menu. The drinks menu is very good, and not too badly priced. You could enjoy drinks for hours in there. Overall the restaurant and food look very good. I believe I had an unfortunate experience, and may go back and revise this review; however, as it stands, I paid £42, and did not enjoy my meal, and a big part of that was where I was sat.

I requested the waiter to make Thai drunken noodles which he didn't know how to make... I'm not sure if we had an off day or the chef was actually drunk. The bao buns tasted so chewy and fel like it's just come out of microwave. There was hardly any sauce or salad in them. We ended up ordering the standard pad Thai noodles after this experience thinking least the noodles might be authentic, but as disappointed we were on the other dishes we regretted getting the noodles, they were tasteless, there was no flavor just simply tasted sweet and chewy.

The starters of grilled meat like chicken satay and teriyaki pork were tender and flavourful and the som tam and ribs get an honourable mention however, the Tom yum soup, larb and mains were really quite salty. We were shown to the absolute prime position in the little decking overlooking Portsmouth Harbour mouth. You cannot beat that view at any time of year. The inside spaces were warm and welcoming , certainly for those who weren’t as hard as we appeared to be. So, great food, stunning view, attentive superlative staff. Visited late evening and had a very basic meal with an over the top price tag, had the platter of 5 cold meze and three hot, thinking for four of us it would be enough to start, what arrived (pictured was not enough for two yet alone four, at £32.50 for the plate pictured you can see there is no value there. The main was also nearly £20 for what can only be described as a lamb kofta inside a wrap, with cabbage and lettuce on the side and a small portion of rice, it was tasty enough but again for the extortionate price tags it all felt very underwhelming, we also had to wait for flat breads to go with the sharer platter as it doesn't come with any, our bill for four people was nearly £200 which for the amount of food we had was not worth the money. Clearly the locals keep this place open but honestly having been to many different establishments I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back. The staff were attentive enough but not exactly welcoming either.

First thing, it is 100% wheelchair accessible as far as I can see, there is a lift to the upper floors and gently sloping ramps around the exhibits, as well as some onsite parking. When you are charging £20 for a roast it has to be special and this unfortunately didnt blow me away. We were in for 12pm so no excuse not to be fresh. Good portion sizes for fair price. I had the £5.90 Pork Gyro wrap, and it was plenty for me - it was quite a lot of food and I was definitely full afterwards. Everything was delicious, but the chips were a little less crunchy than I'd like (personal preference). Delivery costs £2.50 on Uber Eats - I'd suggest using this rather than deliveroo as the items are better described here. The driver is private and not through Uber eats, but this didn't affect delivery and total time (from order to delivery) was around 40 minutes.
