We were not very happy with the menu and decided to move to Bernelių Užeiga as we went there the day before in Kaunas. The menu has many more choices and way better prices, they also have a special menu available which I chose from - boiled potatoes with chanterelles in cream sauce. It was delicious and very fresh. I asked the waiter if it was enough for one person (which I still think it is !) but I said that if I was given on zeppelin I wouldn’t say no - and he brought me one for half a price of a portion ! My brother ordered a beer side as his main meal and it was huge! We all shared as a starter. My mum had a chicken Kiev - also very delicious with mushrooms. My dad had a delicious looking pork neck with sauces. A little bit of waiting time (around 49mins) as a big tourist group came right with us but we were told about it in advance and had a beer and the beer side dish to enjoy as we waited. We visited the restaurant for lunch. We didn’t have a reservation but were able to find a table easily. The menu is quite big comprising multiple local/traditional Lithuanian dishes. Ended up ordering the Lokys Regale which is a dish of assorted game meat (boar, beaver, sausage). The meat portions were good enough to share among 2 pax. Would definitely recommend ordering this dish as it is a nice way to try multiple meats made as per local preparation techniques in one dish. For dessert, ordered the “Traditional Apple Cheese” which was excellent. Also tried a couple of local beers which were good too. Overall, I can see why multiple people recommended visiting this restaurant to try the local delicacies. I enjoyed my meal here, and would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant for those visiting Vilnius and looking for a good place to try Lithuanian cuisine.

The restaurant offers a fine dining experience with courses inspired from Lithuanian cuisine dating back to the 16th & 17th century. The flavors were excellent and the presentation of the courses was also exquisite. Service was fantastic. I was mostly served by a person named Gytis, who was an excellent restaurant staff. The surroundings of the place and the place itself is impressive, it's hard to believe that a prison that was built in soviet times, right in the city centre was housing inmates till 2019, 6 years ago. We went to a tour prearranged in the website. The tour was conducted by a tall, blonde guy who was funny and entertaining. He told us about many things which happened behind those walls, the way inmates and prisoners used to live and what life used to be like behind bars over there. The tour was great but, from my view, what I missed was a bit of a bigger picture in terms of history, the difference between how life was over there during soviet times and when Lthuania became independent. In that way, I found some comments and some facts about the prison a bit repetitive, something that I already heard like 10 minutes before. On the other hand, it seems that this former prison is now a place to go when it comes to concerts, drinks and so on...we went on a tuesday, and to be fair the place was lacking atmosphere, so if you want to enjoy your time at the bar and going for a drink over there after the tour I'd really recommend to book a tour on friday/saturday evening. On top of that, the tour was 22 euros per person, which I found a bit pricey for what it is, as there´s no written explanations, nothing about how life was like over there. So, in that way, I felt that we visited an empty prison (with a bar and a restaurant on the ground floor) that could have had way more interesting remarks in terms of history in a tour and that´s it. It´s worthy if you´re staying in Vilnius, and you´re so into history.
