We had a few starters to share and then several brunch items. All were delicious and southern. Fried green tomatoes, great, simple preparation done well is always a hit. Pimento cheese fritters were rich and yummy but very heavy, sharing is a good option for this item. Grits were cooked and seasoned well which for me is a real plus because so often I think they are under seasoned. Biscuits as good as they get, light and flaky. I think these were delicious. Unfortunately we were with a really large group so I didn’t get many photos. We had been on vacation in Canada and on the cruise about 2 weeks prior to arriving. We are from the south. While the food we had been eating was delicious, I was ready for a homestyle, southern meal. We were in the process of heading back to the ship, because we just weren’t sure where to eat. We walked down what seemed to be more of a side street and saw a gorgeous old house with people dining outside. We checked out the posted menu and decided to give it a try. While we had to remind him that I ordered sweet tea, I didn’t feel that was enough to remove a whole star. We ordered fried green tomatoes which is something I always order if it is on a menu. They were delicious. They also bring biscuits and honey butter to the table that was also great. The sweet tea is true southern style tea. The tea flavor was strong, and so is the sweetness…perfect in my opinion, but it may be too sweet for some. Half sweet half unsweetened may be a better option if you don’t like sugary drinks but still want to try it. For our main dishes, my husband got the shrimp and grits which he orders at most southern restaurants. I got the fried chicken sandwich and fries. He said the shrimp and grits were great. My chicken was so crunchy you could hear me bite into it and it was huge. The fries were also tasty. Everything was seasoned perfectly. I also appreciated that they aren’t afraid to salt the food! Overall, this was one of my favorite meals from our whole trip. I would eat here again.

We were lucky to be sat without reservations (fairly large place with in and outdoor spaces). We did lunch a round 1:00ish on a Thursday. We got the pimento cheese fritters and the award winning shrimp & grits (that was reportedly featured in USA Today)- and boy we’re both so good! The shrimp and grits were not fishy at all- the gravy was perfect. The pimento cheese fritters comes with a delicious bacon jam. They gave complimentary biscuits that we couldn’t eat because we were so stuffed. Other popular dishes (per our waitress) are the chicken and waffles, chicken sandwiches. Would recommend!

The atmosphere is warm and lively, and the staff have a great sense of humor—at one point they were laughing that my partner’s shirt looked just like their uniform. The tuna tartare was good, though it took quite a bit of persuading to get bread with it. Oddly enough, other dishes on the menu include bread, but here it seemed like a challenge. The scallop starter was light and flavorful, a little bit of spice from the jalapeño, but not too overwhelming. The cornbread side was absolutely delightful, the eggplant flavorfull and well roasted. The chicken fried rabbit was jucy and delicious, the grits and gumbo offset it with a wonderfully deep, rich flavor. The pastrami was pull apart soft and juicy, with some solid roasted potatoes. The diver scallops were buttery smooth and melt in your mouth; the succotash was lightly sweet, with a lot of good corn flavor and a hint of roasted tomatillo. The icebox cake was much lighter than I was expecting with a good mocha flavor and smooth dark chocolate pastry. The seasonal ice cream we went with was the muscadine, which is apparently a local grape, which we never would have guessed, and will now go on, wishing it was a flavor we could get shipped back home with us to MN. His answer was immediate: Husk. Reservations were tough to come by (nothing until 9:45 PM on a Sunday), but thanks to Resy Global Access we snagged an 8:30 PM spot on the upstairs porch. Great staff, atmosphere, food and cocktails. It was just an absolute winner. Our hostess Jayla, server Kyle and Sommelier Megan were all outstanding. They have several areas to dine including an interior formal room, a pretty courtyard and a pleasant bar. The bartender “Mel” was great, professional and worked hard to accommodate the customer. I only ordered a couple of dishes, the tomato tart, some oysters and a salad. Unfortunately the oysters seemed over cooked or had been left to dry under a heat lamp while the other food was being prepared I am guessing. The tomato tart was good however and the salad was fresh and crisp, however the menu said the salad was priced at $15 and I noticed after I had been charged $21 ( not sure why although I asked for some extra dressing, but $6 - not sure). We had such delicious meals the first time, and several more menu items that we wished to try, that we knew we had to return. The orange juice was $5 for a very small glass!!! That was not a good start. I know it's Charleston but that was a rip off. I ordered the flight of grits, two scrambled eggs and the sausage and gravy biscuit. The flight of grits was delicious! The grits with gouda cheese was my favorite. The pesto grits were interesting but tasty. The jalapeño grits were delicious, get them if you like spicy. I was disappointed in the biscuit with gravy. The biscuit needed to be split in half and it was too dry. The scrambled eggs were delicious! Some of the best I've had, one suggestion, don't salt the eggs let the customer salt them. They were on the verge of being too salty for my taste. I would definitely go back for the grits! We also got the Johnny cakes, they were interesting not my favorite. My girlfriend loved them though. Located on the historic grounds of Middleton Plantation, this restaurant offers tasty creative dining in a comfortable setting. First, the atmosphere is cozy and felt pretty intimate with the taper candles and dim lighting. It can get a little loud due to how small the restaurant is as it’s only one room in a renovated house but we weren’t distracted by the noise level. We went for dinner and it’s a small restaurant but we like that. The bar is not a full bar. The cocktails available on the menu are the only ones they can make which is not a huge deal but something to note. Also when you order your meal, they want everything to go in at once. Again, not a huge deal and it made for good staging of the dinner but we are the type of people that like to order a few different things to share and then add on more food if we need so we just had to adjust our usual way of dining (this is not a negative, just something to mention so you are aware when you are reviewing the menu). We started with the yellowfin tuna, bread, and salad. All of these were fantastic! The tuna especially was a highlight. For our mains, my husband got a steak and said great things about it. I got the chicken and it was very good, but I thought it lacked a little bit of uniqueness/depth in the flavor profile. It was maybe a little simple but by no means a bad dish. We ordered the zucchini dish as our side and this is probably the only dish that I would say we didn’t totally like. You really don’t taste the zucchini because the pickled green tomatoes were sooo overpowering. Desserts were fantastic! Two to choose from and we got both and didn’t regret it one bit! After dinner drinks (aside from alcoholic beverages) consisted of only a couple teas and espresso. Overall a very good experience but I felt the menu was a little strict. Maybe something you would see more in NYC but not something we were used to with dining in Charleston. I would have preferred a slightly more flexible cocktail menu and some coffee with desert. But overall, the food itself was a highlight and we would recommend this place to others!

The food was fabulous but the service was lacking. Andrew was our waiter, which started out good, but totally changed once an eight top got seated next to us. There was one girl next to me that never stopped typing on her laptop. We assumed they were influencers of some type. The service dropped completely after that. We did not have silverware when our main course was delivered. They forgot my husband’s salad and they forgot one of the sides. We had to ask for a dessert menu, but then decided not to order because I was so Sidetracked by the woman typing on her laptop next to me (for almost an hour). From the experience to the food, I give this place 10s across the board. We split some appetizers including the stracciatella salad, which was amazing. For my entree, I had the wet aged filet steak, cooked medium rare, and it was the best steak I have ever had. I also highly suggest having some of the garlic butter poured over top if you get the steak- it truly elevates the flavor. The dishes were going for the higher end vibe. What followed was a meal I wasn’t prepared for—it was outstanding. I started with the Rellenong Sili, easily the best stuffed pepper I’ve ever had. From the communication to the food to the service to the clean up, it was such an exceptional experience. We started off with the stuffed mushrooms, crab cakes and oyster fritters and couldn’t decide which was our favorite because they were all so yummy.
