Lovely location, Barmouth was v.busy, so didn't stop in the town, but enjoyed the views from near the panoramic walk, and from the small harbour on the way out of town (the Dolgellau side) where there is a small parking area on the left. Will definitely return when the school holidays are over and take the walk across the bridge.

Visited on Friday, 05th September 2025, once at Barmouth, I walked to and across the Barmouth Bridge from the town. I did the full walk over and then walked back. Surprised that motorcycles were allowed, and a little intimidating when they go by. I was blessed to have a scheduled train service go over the bridge when I was on it, and I recommend you try to coincide with such a service, or if you're really blessed, catch a rail tour. Lovely views all round.

An absolutely stunning bridge across the Afon Mawddach. The panoramic views are incredible and the rich history of the bridge creates a deeper appreciation as you cross. It’s a wonderful place to spot sea birds and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a train crossing on the joined viaduct. The trains slow down so even as the trains pass, it’s still peaceful. This bridge was an absolute delight to cross and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Barmouth/Abermaw. 5 stars!

Well maintained bridge. There is a donation point at the Barmouth side in the form of a Toll Troll. Longer than we expected, but we were treated to a migration, possibly, of large jellyfish. Great views all round of both the bay and sea. Will definately visit again when back in Barmouth!

Peaceful walk with stunning views worth a visit!
Visited Barmouth Bridge recently and really enjoyed it. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place with great views perfect for a relaxing walk.
You can park at Morfa Mawddach Station for free, but spaces are limited, so you might need to wait during busy times. There’s a toilet at the station, and a walking path from there takes you straight to the bridge. The walk takes about 20 to 30 minutes one way, so plan accordingly.
Make sure to walk all the way to the Iron Bridge – the earlier part is wooden, but the iron section is especially scenic. If you check the train times, watching one cross the bridge is a nice bonus.
A lovely place to visit for walkers, photographers, or anyone who enjoys peaceful views.

Well this was an unexpected and amazing experience at a very quiet Barmouth. Just inside half term but not at all busy. We even only had a small queue for fish and chips. Parking was easy £7:70 for all day although the parking machine was fussy (seemed to like £1 coins but not £2 ones. Asked if prom parking was free and told by a local it was but the notice on the lamp post disagreed and stated to use the machine. The bridge is superb, both rail and foot.

We parked roadside and followed an alternative trail to the main one, admittedly we did get a little lost and off course, however, once we reached the top - oh my goodness the views were to die for!! Definitely worth the detour and the struggle of up hill trekking.

Beware of Adders. Not seen often but are venomous. We walked here from the Last Inn up the '100 Steps'. Although we had a steep start, Once up these most of the other climbs are not as steep and are more prolonged which is easier for those not as fit. However it is a trodden and rocky path at points. But also has grassy parts. Beautiful views at the top and this was considering it was a bit cloudy.

Stunning Day Out at Barmouth Beach!
We had an absolutely lovely time visiting Barmouth Beach! The views were truly stunning, with a wide expanse of sandy beach that's perfect for families. There’s plenty of space for kids to run around, play games, and build sandcastles ideal for a relaxing day by the sea.
The beach itself is clean and well maintained, and it wasn’t overcrowded even during peak hours, which made our visit even more enjoyable.
Parking was very convenient, with a large car park (Barmouth Main Car Park) located just next to the beach. Public toilets are also available nearby at Barmouth Public Convenience, which was a big plus, especially with kids.
There are plenty of attractions close to the beach, including a children’s play area, small fairground rides, and various food stalls. It’s a great place to grab a bite or treat yourself to some classic seaside snacks.
We also enjoyed a peaceful walk along the promenade, which offered lovely views of the Barmouth Bridge a beautiful spot for photos or just taking in the scenery. There are also some nice restaurants along the seafront if you fancy a sit down meal.
Overall, it was a very positive experience, and we will definitely be coming back again!

Nice a peaceful beach .very quiet as compared to other beaches . This beach offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it a pleasant spot for families and anyone looking to unwind. There are a few simple games for children and even traditional donkey rides, adding a nostalgic charm to the experience. While the setting is enjoyable and has the potential to be a real gem, it’s let down by a lack of proper maintenance and care from the local council. Facilities may be a bit worn or under-serviced, no shower and changing facilities for visitors which is a shame which is a shame given the beach’s otherwise lovely character.

Fabulous clean and a beautiful beach to visit. Dog friendly area is signed well. Places to walk and talk and enjoy nature. The sand is immaculate and well looked after by the town. The sand hills which are bringing restored are fabulous and proves that the correct and simple technique can bring back nature. The whole experience was enjoyable. Parking was easy and well sign posted. The promenade is clean and well maintained with palm trees in pots. The are numerous memorial benches strategically placed to give wonderful views. Late evening sunsets are unspoiled by the hustle and bushel of modern life. A real throwback to experience in the moment before we all go back to our busy, busy lives.

Very good place to spend the time. Really nice long, wide and mostly sandy beach with shallow, quite clean and warm water. Close to the town infrastructure like parking spaces, toilets, shops, restaurants and children's fun fair. On a over cast rainy day we ventured out to Barmouth. Plenty of parking space opposite the beach £1.55 for 2 hours. Small market was in full flow and there are varied shops and cafes. Had a great walk around and a good look at the Barmouth Bridge although there was a lot of fog coming off the mountains. Would be great to visit here when the weather is sunny. We came for a holiday and stayed a few villages over. We came to the beach nearly everyday and our children loved it. The beach is so lovely a clean and the water is crystal clear. A very pleasant walk with stunning views of the mountains and countryside. The weather was mixed so made the skies moody which was photogenic. It was quite but has atmosphere. Were able to walk on the estuary sand which even at low tide still has a bit of “suck” in places so I would recommend stout shoes or walking boots. The good thing is the sand is clean so a dry and brush sees the boots right. Places to eat and shops, a pleasant vibe, sort of how I would imagine the 1970’s, nostalgia and unspoiled b

Quaint marina that has a bit of an olde world feel to it. Lovely views across the estuary, to the railway bridge inland, and the sea off the coast. Saw some folks catching and carefully releasing small crabs to the delight of their small children. Public conveniences were clean and working. An easy walk into the high street and you can also catch a small boat to ferry you across the estuary to Fairbourne. Spotted some cute grey seals basking on the rocks nearby.

Great place for kayaking and paddleboarding, though you can get some strong currents around the bridge or sandbanks at certain tide points and it's often quite windy. We’ve eaten here many times and are never disappointed. Today was a fairly impromptu Sunday lunch. The croquettes were delicious (I could have been happy just eating plate after plate of these!) and then we chose the duck with a honey, ginger and brandy sauce - the latter was so gorgeous my husband had an extra jug. What a wonderful place! We visited the Dragon Theatre to see harpist Catrin Finch and the evening was even better than we hoped for. The venue is excellent, not too big, not too small, with some charming features and very good sound. I've always had a special place in my heart for the last inn! They really know how to throw a great time with live bands and awesome disco nights, not to mention their fantastic food menu.
I recently tried their new special, a surf & turf sharing platter, and I went for the ribeye from a local butcher. You can pick from a variety of chips or fries, and I opted for their truffle & parmesan fries, so delicious!
The ribs were incredibly tender, and the meat just fell off the bone. Seriously, everything was cooked to perfection! It was such a delightful experience!

Beautiful atmospheric Inn over looking the Harbour. Go in towards the back of the eating area to see the rock that the Inn is built in to and see the waterfall.

The Last inn, I have eaten here now three times and each time had ribeye steak as never fails to disappoint and holds the title in my mind as the best steak I’ve had. A generous portion sizes with banging peppercorn sauce.
We visited on a busy Saturday and managed to find a table which was lucky as is often fully booked. The owner Ted was very helpful explaining the menu, which was a huge interest to my girlfriend as loves fresh fish which they offer served which a variety of different sauces, she went with tomato and basil which was delightful.
The menu is full of options for everyone, the portion sizes are good and drinks available at a reasonable price. They allow well behaved dogs which is a bonus.
Next time we will be back but ensure we book in advance. Highly recommended!

A lovely sandy beach with a nice little town with plenty of places to eat and shops to browse around this really is where the mountains meet the sea! Big spacious car park right on the beach front with plenty of spaces however I can imagine that this still gets very busy in the height of the summer.
My only negative to say would be the dog ban on the main area of the beach which takes the best central part of the beach away from dog owners in the summer. There are still dog friendly areas to the right and left of this central area which are still very nice but they can get overcrowded as the space is smaller than the central area.

The beach is amazingly clean and open with a layer of dry soft sand above the more firmer sand for making sand castles!
We had the traditional seaside treat of fish and chips on the beach then ice creams all round!
There's even a fairground to spend extortionate amounts of money too!

On holiday with my sister and a friend, we liked the look of this cafe, so called in for our meal.
My fish, chips, and pineapple fritter were absolutely amazing. Very very tasty 😋 and hot. The chips were crispy on the outside, delicious.
The tea machine wasn't working so I was told we could go to the bakery next door to buy a cuppa and bring it back to have with my meal.
Wow! Not only were our drinks nice and hot. They sold cakes. I was spoilt for choice and could have bought loads. But I only bought a Chelsea bun and a Vienese. Ver large cakes and worth every penny. Great value for money. I think 2 teas, 1 coffee, and the cakes cost about £12.
My meal cost £9. Very reasonable.
I definitely recommend The Mermaid - and the bakery of course.

The best of Wales. Always busy. We need to wait for at least 5 to 10 minutes. The time i were there was nearly 5 pm in the evening. I waited around 20 minutes . The best fish and ships in the whole UK . No parking. Only 17 people can eat in. The batter fried cod fis was so succulent inside and crispy outside, and the wedges they fry a massive amount of it not from the refrigerator just chop in the machine and into the pool of good quality oil we can see through the glasses itself.

About an hour queue for this chippy, with people queuing down the street. Had a big group order which took less than 10 mins to make. The curry sauce was nice, but I think the portion of chips should be bigger compared to the price and how long people wait for it. I also had a halloumi fritter which was nice too, but a bit greasy underneath (which is to be expected). The two girls on the till (20/8/25 at 630pm) were sweet and helpful with our order even once we added one more portion of chips after the order had gone to the card reader.

We stayed 2 nights in November, had a spacious double room on the 3rd floor, with a 4 post bed and en suite bathroom. The whole room was really clean and nicely decorated as was the bathroom.
The pub was cosy and served decent pub food. Breakfast was a good full English with the option having it brought up to our room and your desired time (which we did).
Barmouth itself was really nice, a few good pubs and bars and a few nice restaurants, nice and quiet in November.
Would definitely stay at the Royal again!

Well from the moment we checked in the staff were very friendly and professional. Room was very spacious and well equipped. Fridge and fan which we didn't expect and the tea tray didn't disappoint. We stayed for five nights and even though we were right above the front door noise was expected but not really an issue. You are pre-warned before booking: guests have their own entrance so don't have to go through bar if don't want to which was nice. You can choose your breakfast the night before from a tick list but don't have to: we found it very helpful. Going for breakfast in the morning was a look forward to moment because from the first morning to the last we were greeted with a smile and a laugh from the exceptional team of the chef and especially Brian(Daddy). Paul(Puppy). And banana. We had such a laugh and set us up for the day with a smile:

I stayed 2 nights at The Royal and ate there both nights.
All the staff were very friendly and both meals were really tasty, as well as good value.
During my trip I spoke to a few locals who all told me it is the best pub in Barmouth, which is easy to believe.
Unfortunately my bathroom (room 5) smelt really musty, which wasn't ideal and my room was above the bar, so a bit noisy in the evening which was a shame as I wanted an early night and that wasn't easy.
I feel a bit mean knocking a star off, but it'd be wrong for me to give 5* when taking into account the above.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay, it was great value and I'd definitely return.

I'd consider the fishing trip to be the 'Ronseal' of fishing trips. Will you catch fish? Likely. Will you enjoy yourself? Maybe not.
We were floating on the waves as this was the best chance of catching fish, but the sea was very choppy and there were many times that I had to grab hold of the side as well as my son while holding the rod.

A lovely restaurant we found while searching for a halal restaurant near to Conwy as we were returning back to London. After a long hike in Cader Idris we decided to visit Saffron. Made the call and staff clarified it was halal except chicken nuggets. Restaurant is in a very busy village with lots of shops and restaurants. We came without an appointment but Mijan and Moby were very accommodating. The staff are very welcoming and friendly asking us about our day and business purpose. Straight away you got the family feeling in the restaurant. The staff seem to knew everyone and it was great to see a community Indian restaurant run by Bangladeshi who knew their neighbours and members of the community. We waited near the bar for less than 15mins for a table to be free. It was very busy all tables full hence why you have to book. We got seated menu given and orders taken. We ordered some starters and went for mains King prawn jalfrezi with pilau rice, nan bread with garlic chicken bhuna, sag allo and some chips. There were lots of your classic options and chef specials as well. Starters came within 10mins and main straight after. The restaurant owners allowed us to use a staff room to prayer which was very kind of them. After prayers our food was ready, hot, full of flavour and tasted delicious. Compliments to the chef the food was amazing, no wonder the locals love it and it comes with 5 star hygiene rating. Again a great evening of food, great service from Moby and Mijan and it also came with a £20 discount which was very generous of the owner. Thank you will be back soon and will recommend to anyone from our ends who is looking for an Deshi curry like home cooking.

Do not order this dish!! Supposed to be a perfect authentic Indian restaurant of the area. The only mistake was my order. I did pick Jolly’s Revenge, the hottest on the menu said to make from several types of chillies and hot spices leading to a fiery taste. They are not kidding. I’m a Thai who love spicy food but this dish is beyond human consumption. It is way too hot and overpowering with chillies. The first bite makes you cry instantly. I have never tasted such a curry in my life and handed down as the most spiciest curry I have ever tried. Don’t ask me about the next day. I have got burning stomach and internal organs and down to the bottom the very next day.
I think they should tune down to human consumption level. I mean can be very hot but edible and has some taste. It should be have been my perfect Indian curry night after a long drive in the rain. Oh well.

My parents have a caravan just outside Barmouth so we visit Saffron every time we visit the caravan, we’ve even been twice in a week once, the place is that good. From the owner to the staff, everyone is so nice and makes me, my Mrs and 2 son’s feel so welcome, specially our good friend Mobi, he always looks after us. The food is top notch, credit to the chef/chef’s and the beers are always cold, what more could you want! I would recommend anyone to visit Saffron if in the area, a good idea to book in advance as it is always busy, but that’s testament to the food and service I think. Turned up yesterday for a table of 6 and hadn't booked, I think more by luck we were able to get a table.
The restaurant was spotless, the staff were great and the food was amazing, infact the food was faultless.
This is a little family run gem of a business which isn't normally open of a Sunday evening after 5pm but accommodated helping out the town for a busy bank holiday weekend! It's a shame more venues didn't do the same.
We look forward to a return visit in the near future and also a visit to your Cafe directly opposite as l'm sure this is going to be the same quality!

The food wasn't great. My husband had the mussel and calamari penne and I had poached plaice with crab meat in a seafood sauce. The food we got was over cooked and it seems the mussels were a cheap frozen pack and the result was rubbery in texture. The cream sauce that it came with it was unseasoned and bland. The plaice was also over cooked and rubbery around the edges. The crab meat was unexpectedly missing and replaced with the same rubbery mussels and calamari that was on my husbands plate. Again, the creamy seafood sauce was unseasoned and bland.
We ordered diet coke as our drinks these were poured from 500ml little bottles. We were waiting ages to get our bill and the older waitress walked past our table oblivious to us. The desserts were tiny and were all bought in frozen Costco specials. But the portions were half what the recommended ones were.
This is a coastal town where seafood should be fresh, easy to find as this was a seafood restaurant it should have been beautiful and amazing to dine there, but it just wasn't nice.

Nice little place next to the harbour. Food was acceptable if not overpriced for what it was. My food was the Cod giujons on a bap with fries. The bun was a little dry as the two giujons did not fill the bap, and there was only one lettuce leaf with no garnish, etc. Edible, but for the price, I would expect a little more. Fries were good and lots of them. Two adult meals and a child's meal came to over £36 without drinks, so it seems expensive. We visited the Lobsterpot this week hoping for a lovely experience, as the website looked so nice. The place is pleasant but tight, we were seated near the kitchen door so my husband, who sat with his back to the narrow walkway, constantly had the staff squeezing by with dishes of food and was bumped into a few times. This is an amazing restaurant in an amazing location.
Good menu of pizzas, burgers, paninis, baguettes, wraps, potatoes.
We ate here twice while in the area because the food was so good (and service)
I had pizza both visits (Chorizo & hot honey / Goats cheese) and the dough was really really good. Plenty of toppings and the tomato sauce was excellent.
(I took away some of the pizza and reheated it in the microwave in our accommodation and it was nearly as good as it was in the restaurant - which is always a good sign of a quality pizza dough)
My wife had the cod goujon ciabatta which was also very good. Perfectly breaded flaky cod and not greasy at all.
The portion of dough balls were also lovely. Big and doughy with lots of lovely garlic butter to dip in.
This might look like just another restaurant in a beach town but I highly recommend the food here, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Lovely little pizza place. We were struggling to find somewhere to eat on bank holiday Friday. We asked if we could eat and they said an hour wait. We were hungry and this was more than acceptable. The food arrived after 35 minutes so that was a bonus. The staff were lovely and friendly and when the food arrived it was really nice. We had the meat feast and a pepperoni pizza with sides of tempura prawns chips and onion rings.
The pizzas were amazing and the home made bases were delicious. The prawns were banging too! There were a variety of sauces you could have (brown sauce I assume for the breakfast menu). My only recommendation would be bbq as I like that with pizza crusts.

Had lunch with a large group with varying dietary needs and there was something tasty for us all. Nice and light & airy. Seating inside or outside opposite the beach so just beware of the seagulls as they've obviously heard how great the food is here too! The Pizzas are amazing as is the gluten free halloumi burger! We ordered 4 pizzas and they all arrived in varying degrees of under cooked to slightly too well done. Mmmm. I wish I had heeded the other reviews about tough and leathery beef. There was no shortage of beef in my beef chow mein, but it was difficult to eat. 1/2inch thick lumps and tough and chewy. Left most of it, just nibbled the thinnest bits. They really need to tenderise and thinly slice the meat. This is not exactly a "ferry station ". It's actually just a spot on a beach where you buy a ticket to ride in an 8 person boat over to the town of Barmouth once you get off the miniature railway. The boat ride is only 10 mins and it's so cute. It can get crowded quick so be prepared. The boat captain was very nice and helped people get on/off safely. Highly recommend!

Where you have the hoards of people and the noise and razz matazz of Barmouth this is a lovely spot to pull up, chill out and soak up the views of the estuary. If your missing the noise and hustle and bustle of Barmouth it is only a short boat trip away. Parking is limited to best to get there early and park sensibly so everyone can get a chance

Absolutely amazing! Booking and payment was very easy. Emails were replied too really quickly.
I booked onto the 1 hour session this morning and I had a great time.
They supply everything you need wetsuit, safety vest and shoes if required but you can wear your own if you like.
I had never paddleboarded before and Russ got us on the water kneeling and then standing eventually which I was very nervous about. I may have fallen off a couple of times but it’s all part of the learning. Russ answered all my questions regarding techniques and about me buying a paddle-board.
Russ also took photos of us all and sent them to us afterwards which was a nice touch.
Russ had lots of knowledge regarding paddle boarding and was very keen to pass it on especially regarding safety of doing it alone. Would highly recommend for individuals, couples and groups!

St Mary and St Bodfan's Church in Llanaber is a stunning example of 13th Early English Gothic architecture, built on a far earlier Celtic site.
The church overlooks the sea, and I am sure on a sunny day the view would be fantastic. A church has stood on this exposed site since the 5th or 6th century and carved Celtic stones have been found from this time. That original church would have been timber, wattle and daub.
The Normans rebuilt St Bodfan's church in stone, and rather than eliminate the earlier dedication they simply added St Mary to it, giving Llanaber church its dual dedication to St Mary and St Bodfan.
The church features a six layer moulded archway, made of sand stone. Inside the Norman influence is evident in the clerestory lancets and arcades. The timber roofs are 16th century and include a small amount of panelling above the sanctuary.
The graveyard is mostly packed with Victorian stones, covered in lichen and very weather beaten. There is also a large number of angels, leading to some very picturesque shots with the sea in the background.
