Lots to do on this featured weekend. Lovely gardens, three different train tracks running with live steam locomotives. Agricultural machinery was featured including threshing demonstrations and other live steam traction engines both full sized and miniature. We had a disabled member in the party and access was even possible to onto some of the carriages so the ride could be shared by all of us. Nice garden centre with shops and plants etc. Good parking facilities and limited entry numbers so it was not uncomfortably busy. Nice restaurant and snack/coffee bar. Dad's Army feature in the museum and many unexpected items. Family friendly.

We were told that the gardens were in disarray and maintenance was due to be carried out on the whole site. For this we were charged a reduced rate of just £3. The garden was indeed full of weeds and the whole outdoor area desperately needed some TLC. But I absolutely knew that the guys running this place cared very much for the animals and their welfare and many of them including the lemurs and monkeys were free to go wherever they wished. We even had the opportunity to feed grapes to them which was a real treat for us! The staff were friendly and found time to chat to us about the animals. There is a nice café and a gallery and a tiny gift shop area. There isn't a huge amount to see or do here, maybe an hour's worth, but we still enjoyed it and would return again some day. The drive there is a pleasant trip through Suffolk countryside and then you arrive at the site ....we parked on the roadside every time we've been as the shade keeps the vehicle cool. It's now a special place to take family on a walk and every time we've been, they were delighted for the fresh air with the sound of the river and happy children in the river nearby. It took us a long time to find somewhere we loved in its entirety. Wingfield Barns is a dry-hire venue in a peaceful location, & this is exactly what we wanted in order to have a blank canvas for our big day. The cost of the hire is very reasonable & the barns/grounds are beautiful! We were given recommended suppliers to contact, which helped as we don’t live near Suffolk ourselves so this gave us somewhere to start from. We were also able to have our dog with us all day, which was essential for us. Erica was incredible in arranging viewings, confirming finishing touches & just being so supportive on the day itself as well as the day before/after. She helped with gathering the used glasses, cutting the cake up for our guests & making sure that everything was going smoothly. I could not recommend Wingfield Barns enough, it was the perfect venue for our perfect day :)
