The new learning center gives a good overview of the history of Michigan's capitol buildings (all 3 of them). It was a bit confusing to get down to the visitors center if you enter through the public enterance, but there are enough signs to guide the way. There are guided and self-guided tours available. Usually, at the Open House, they have tea and cookies and some Christmas music, plus workers that are chatty and friendly. This year, we got there at 4pm like we did last year but there was no tea or cookies, no music playing with only the strange squeak of one of the displays upstairs which didn’t make the upstairs super comfortable. I had a party there and all the guests loved it. However, the woman that is the care taker there is completely unorganized and added a lot of unnecessary stress. This is a great place to have a party but set it straight with that caretaker to hold up her end of the bargain so you don't have the headaches I did.

We were looking for a place near our campground, Cottonwood, to take our Kayak out. This must be either a new park or it’s being updated. Has a very nice dog park, splash pad, playground near a very small but nice beach. They do rent paddle boats, swans, canoes and kayaks. We were able to set up our kayak and launch here easily as well. Nobody was on the water. Saw plenty of staff driving around the grounds. $5 parking for out of town people. Loved it!

EVERYTHING was amazing. Even the sides. Brisket was perfect, great smoke flavor ( even nicer smoke ring ) tender, juicy. Wings had great smoke flavor, nice and perfectly crispy but not burnt, juicy and flavorful. The ribs were top notch!! Great crust from the rub, also perfect smoke flavor, not dry but not fall off the bone ( aka over cooked in my opinion) get that perfect bite. The mac n cheese was REALLY good, had a little kick to it which I loved, but not over powering. The beans had a perfect balance of sweet and smoky flavor. And if all of that isn't enough, the atmosphere and location is the cherry on top. Lots of stuff to do close by even if you have a wait. We will be back....SEVERAL TIMES.....SOON.

This is a huge market featuring produce from around the world plus an onsite bakery,wine and beer garden plus a lot more! It looks like it started as a farmers market and kept expanding.
