It was a great time since we were the only ones there. Another group came in shortly afterwards. We were met by two volunteers who started telling us about the jail and its history. Every seat at every table was taken, and even every chair at the bar was full. I got some oysters for an appetizer. I think that they were called Carolina Gold. They were sweet and delicious. The view from atop the Lighthouse was phenomenal and you can see Old Baldy Lighthouse as well. The climb is not your traditional spiral staircase. There is a series of 7 ladderstairs and platforms. Not recommended to those not able to climb a ladder. To climb to the top you need to email the Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse. This is a local volunteer group that coordinates tours. You can not climb without a reservation through this organization. Email early to be sure to grab a spot for the climb. The reservation is free but donations are highly suggested for the upkeep of the lighthouse!

We ate at a restaurant on the beach and then watched the sun go down, the beach and pier was open untill 11pm. We had a fantastic time walking along the beach and pier at and after sunset watching the waves and the little crabs running out of our way. All in all, a decent course for the price. Unpretentious staff and a quiet vibe good for beginners. Greens were slow after being aerated 2.5 weeks ago, but that is completely understandable. They have a public restroom their are no showers that work, it is dog friendly, the playground equipment was nice the kids had fun for about 15 min until about 10 city trucks came in and started construction drilling in the ground so we left in a hurry. Half of the boat dock is destroyed, and caution tape around the area where it was. Looks as though the park got hit with damage and the workers are trying to repair and make improvements, I believe this will be a fantastic park once construction is complete but is best to stay out of their way for now.

They was able to play on everything out there, none of it was too hot for them to be able to play and enjoy their selves. They're was the picnic area you could sit at there was also benches located in different areas closer to the play areas. If I'm not mistaken there was some type of like umbrella or something along those lines over top of some of the playground. There was also a box out there where kids could pick out books and they both picked them 1 out. 1 day I am going to go back to this park and put a handful or so of books back in the box. That way it will get stocked back up and also it will put back for the 2 books they took. I have nothing bad to say about this park. It will be from now on the only 1 they will be going to. This is the only park that I know of around here that has swings. I have never understood why parks don't have swings anymore. But other than it having swings it 2 has so many different things for your kids to play on. If you live around here and have kids that still like going to the park and you have never been to this 1 I really recommend you trying this 1 out. I honestly believe it would be worth the drive. I live in the winnabow area and I believe it is worth the drive and the time to go all the way to southport park. I could go on and on and continue to rave about this park. So I would highly recommend at least trying it out if you've never been. But what my cup of tea is may not be every1's cup of tea. You get what I'm sayin?
