They do a whole demonstration of the mining equipment a few times a year, and they are really committed to keeping the history alive. And the people working in the shop are super friendly. If you want to visit on a demonstration day, be sure to buy your tix in advance, bc our tour was sold out. The attendants at the front desk were very polite and welcoming when we arrived. It is divided into two wings and an outside area with some mining equipment, a tuberculosis cabin, and a chapel. I especially liked all the information I could learn about the different Native American tribes, and the history of the mining that went on in the 1800s and early 1900s in Cave Creek. I took off one star just due to the size since it would be hard to spend over an hour here, however, I do recommend it for any fan of history, museums, or anyone who is interested in anything to do about Arizona or it’s heritage. $10 for adults and $8 for seniors to enter.

They have a huge display of pottery amongst other things the natives used in the area of Cave Creek and Carefree. They have a really neat mill and if you make and get reservations you can see them fire it up and crush rock and learn how they used to get gold. It was a pretty neat guided tour and informative. The people that work at the museum are all volunteers and have a passion to tech and show you how things were many years back. The parking is a bit limited and a hassle just off the main drag so we had to loop around before we could fit my truck into the space. Mid-day, it sounds like a lot of the businesses close for a break because it is so hot in the summer here and there are not a lot of people walking around at that time. We camped at the campground which has large sites for our trailer and truck to park side by side. Sites were clean, spacious and spread out enough on our end so we weren’t constantly exposed to our neighbours. There wasn’t much shade coverage but the temperature this time of the year didn’t require it in the same way it would hotter months. There are plenty of hiking trails though we only completed the slate trail with the Michelin man saguaro. See my review of said trail if you’re interested. You pay a fee to enter or to use the campground. The washrooms and showers were clean, im just not a fan of the push button showers as they require constant button mashing to ensure the water doesn’t stop on you mid wash. The park rangers were kind and welcoming. It’s a very quiet park and we had no concerns. I only give less than five stars because I felt it was expensive compared to other state parks for what you get. We did have full water and electric. Sites are paved and pretty level. The sites are large and easy to back into, well-maintained and level. The bathrooms are clean and shower water is hot, although annoying to have to hit the button every 30 seconds. Good central location for all of the Northern Phoenix area. If you are in the family campground especially, this is literally adjacent to your campsite, and can be rather loud at times. 2) The dump station does not have a hose attachment to backflush your black tanks. There is water, but it is a small spray nozzle that does not come off, no hose attachments. I feel this is a major oversight to be able to adequately dump and clean black tanks.

But once they had people get through the vip line they ended up merging them into the ga line which was stupid and defeated the purpose of having 2 lines. That was just crazy to have people cut into another line in front of other people. Once we got in they has sections off for vip which ok great. But the security allowed people to stand in front of the entrance to that area which was difficult for wait staff to get in and out of there. If your gonna have wait staff bringing food and drinks through there then you need to have an entrance thats not allowed to be blocked off by patrons. It was poorly executed and planned out. I have been to many events and concerts and this was the worst way to execute a show. I definitely wont come back here not to eat or for a concert. Next time you should be informing staff and making signs showing where people are supposed to go for the concert separately from the restaurant/ bar. It helps w the confusion when asking staff where we are supposed to go.

In the winter, Cave Creek actually has water in it. Hike is very easy going and there are a couple of loops to choose from. Pets are allowed, just pick up after them. The kids all had a great time. I think they were using horses on the Elephant trail, which is one that goes into the mountains that is not maintained. I had a great time. It's a fun and relaxing walk with amazing sunsets. You should be able to see other hikers going up or down with you time to time which is a good thing in case anything happens. I just wish that we could leave the mountain as itself without building multi million dollar homes where people buy and leave it vacant for many months. I appreciated the ease with booking and I feel the cancellation/reschedule policy is extremely fair (it rained ALL week so we were keeping an eye on the weather/considering the possibility of having to reschedule). The description of everything and the simplicity of the entire process was completely on point. I also appreciated the day-of text about the exact time for sunset, when to arrive, etc. There is a $7 vehicle fee and you definitely want to bring some cash to tip your guide at the end. Our guide gave us a demonstration which equipped us with the skills and confidence to get on and off, handle/control the horse, and also enjoy the ride. I’ve done another trail ride years ago, somewhere else..everything was flat and it was extremely tame- THIS one was still tame, but we went UP and around the whole mountain and down, across, and through the wash. So the terrain was fun and rocky, a bit up and down. The natural desert landscape is extremely matured and untouched where possible. We got to ride Tug, Amy, and Raven. They had the children ride behind the guide, parents to follow. I LOVED our guide, we got Eva. She was so fabulous with my son and I really appreciated how hard she tried to remember everyone’s names. She got to ride Maverick, who I heard is newer to the group but already doing so well. We were right behind her because we had a child, but I wish the people from out of town could hear all the info she was sharing about the desert, the plants, etc. Apologies for the lengthy descriptions.. but you can tell when a business is a well oiled machine and these guys are doing it right. The corral was awesome they have hats, boots and chaps for use if interested! The horses were very well mannered and fairly easy to ride, even for beginners. Upon returning to the shop, they immediately dropped everything they were doing to help. Jerry and Shea quickly triaged the situation, and Alex wasted no time before he took the hat and began working the stains out. With the finesse and skill only attributable to the finest craftsmen, the entire crew provided real time updates on progression like a Doctor would during an intensive surgery. After having left it overnight, Alex called me early the following day with amazing news. They had saved the hat, and worked out every single stain!!! The hat looked brand new again, without so much as a note of discoloration ANYWHERE. And despite the time and resources invested, they did not charge me for it!
