Only downside is I wish the seats were a little bit bigger so you’d have more room to kinda stretch out and be comfortable, but that definitely will not stop me from ever going back!

It's really fascinating to know just how far people have traveled in order to stand where I was standing right then and there. Unfortunately, there were no more pins for me. Alas, I just had to join in spirit with the other pins that were placed on Richmond, Virginia. This was also where I learned about the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road which answered my question I always had about why the cities out in Western Virginia are so equally spaced and follow i-81 in a straight line. They were stops about a day away from each other via wagon along the road as settlers made their way into the Appalachian region. I like finally understanding that bit of trivia, especially since I've visited each of those cities this year. This visitor center also provides a wealth of information through its extensive collection of brochures, highlighting all the cities and numerous places to stop and hundreds of things to see and do and eat. Despite originally going on this vacation to cross some items off my bucket list, since it's now sitting at just under 300 spots in Virginia I want to visit, I couldn't help grabbing pamphlets by the armfuls, until the front desk guy was laughing and asking if I could carry them all. What's another couple of hundred more places to visit in this state anyway? As my favorite saying goes, "I'll add it to the list!" Once I made it outside with my souvenirs and an armful of paper pamphlets, I took one more photo of the LOVE sign and then I was off again, further into the city of Abingdon and more parts unknown.

When you walk in, it feels very homey and cozy. The restaurant is very well decorated with multiple rooms to sit, an alcohol bar in one corner and a coffee bar in the other. For the prices this place is asking, you need to do much better on the service side. 1 new waitress running around apologizing to everyone and 1 old one who didn’t seem to care about anyone doesn’t cut it. This place could be a great find but not without some small changes. Greet customers, people are ok waiting for good food but not if they feel ignored. Offer some small hold over foods, bread or pita slices will keep people busy while their food is being prepped. Standardize the plate-ware. It had been on mine forever. Just a side note, the part of the trail that is all downhill was washed out by Hurricane Helene. It was very hot out and we almost didn’t go, but so glad we did. We rented e-bikes and started on the trail next to the visitor center. You can ride the full way and back or schedule a shuttle to pick you up in Damascus and bring you back. We decided to ride to the halfway point at Alvarado and ride back. The e-bikes are a must if you are going for the experience. They have wider seats and you can use them as little or as much help as you want. You are still peddling and getting exercise. The trail from Abingdon to Damascus is shaped like a shallow bowl. So the first part of your trip will be a little easier. In Alvarado, there are restrooms and a small gift shop with drink and ice cream. Also a beautiful place by the river to sit. The trail is covered most of the time by trees and a lot cooler than in the sun. There are 1 or 2 gates you have to open and 1 or 2 places you have to cross a road. There are bridges you have to rode across. These were my favorite! They also have trailers to pull if you are bringing kids. This was a great experience and we will definitely be doing this again!

We made reservations and, when we arrived, we were the only patrons in the restaurant other than one customer at the bar. However, both of our entrees were totally flavorless without the kimchi in them. I got the tonkatsu Ramen ($25) and my wife got the Kimchi fried rice and added chicken ($25, $19 on the menu +$6 to add the chicken). The tonkatsu Ramen broth tasted like nothing, no umami. I'm not sure it even had salt. The noodles were a good texture but the pork belly was tough, even trying to chew repeatedly to get a bit size piece didn't work so I left it to the wayside. It had little flavor itself anyway. The kimchi was very good, as was the soy sauce soaked egg inside. I just wish the broth had tasted like anything. To get a flavorful bite I had to have either the kimchi or egg in it, otherwise it was just the bone broth with no seasonings and noodles. The Kimchi fried rice suffered the same. If the kimchi had been added to the rice while cooking it may have tasted like more but it was just added on the side. It was confusing how little flavor the dish had without the kimchi in the same bite. Not like any Kimchi fried ride I've ever tasted, and we had it at our wedding. We got the crepe cake ($10) for dessert and it was delicious! Very light and airy, flavor was good and I loved the sauces on the side of the plate to create a different experience for each bite! It was so disappointing to have the entrees so lacking in flavor when the appetizer and dessert were so lovely. We also spent a long time waiting for the check. We were there for over an hour when we ordered pretty immediately and, until the last 20 minutes of our stay, were the only customers. We didn't see much of our server at the end. Overall very disappointing showing for the pice point. We were very excited for a good meal after a wonderful show. If we do go back, it will be for the delicious bao and dessert. I won't be dropping $25 per for flavorless main dishes again. For a $91 bill for two people to eat, I would have expected a better showing. I will also say, I got a soda and have no idea how much I was charged for it but it must have been one expensive soda to up our total of $78 before tax for the items I know the cost of to be $91 after tax. I suppose I should have asked, but it must have been an $8 single glass of soda to get to $91 after tax. I wasn't given a copy of the bill to check after. Overall disappointing, go for the boa and the vibes, but I wouldn't spend my money on the entrees again.

Of the two “comfort”bikes we rented one had a dragging rear brake that was so over adjusted to one side, so much that the bike would not free roll for more than 10feet w/o having to pedal again. The course is VERY well maintained and is challenging but very playable for all skill levels. The staff at GCC is truly amazing; you always see them with a smile and they make you feel welcome from the time you walk in until the time you leave.
