Located off of highway 51 in downtown Minocqua near McDonald's, the park is close to everything in downtown Minocqua. The playground has swings,a merry-go-round, 2 parallel slides, a tunnel slide, a climbing wall, and all of the accessories a good climbing tower has. It also has a spongy, clean surface, which means no sand and dirt will cover your children, and little if any clean up required. There is also a smaller playground for tots, which is surrounded with gravel, which can be quite messy. There are multiple canopies equipped with picnic tables and grills, which are a nice touch. Not only that, but the park and playground are right next to a beautiful lake with a nice clean sand beach for swimming and sun bathing. Finally the park has a huge parking lot, which means you can park your vehicle without worrying about other vehicles being parked too close.

They are still building it out but it's already a nice little spot. There's the mini beach with roped-off swimming area. There's plenty of grass and picnic tables for all your picnic beds. Also tennis courts and a nice playground. I haven't been on a playground in decades but it's got this nice rubbery ground that is slightly springy so you don't have to worry about your little ones getting hurt. Once the grass is fully laid and the construction stuff is gone it should be a great spot!

We visited Minocqua in July of 2020 and made sure to watch this show during our stay, even though we have a similar show back home on the Mississippi River. The performers were great, as was the announcer who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They do a variety of tricks, including bare-footing, pyramids, and jumps off of the incline. There are two sections of bleachers to watch the show with a shack in the middle where the skiers have all of their gear. I probably wouldn't want to see the show again for quite some time, but it was definitely great to see it once.

Minocqua Brewing Company has been on my list of places to visit for years now so I was excited to finally make the stop. When we arrived it was down pouring and the tap room was quite busy but everyone made room for us. First of all, the vibe of the tap room was so warm and welcoming and the sweet beer-tender was amazingly kind and explained all of our tap options— we had an amazing chat with her! We had our teen daughter with and she also did a great job of including her, explaining the non-alcoholic options. I chose the Lady Justice Weisse (I can’t pass us a Weisse beer) 🗽 and my partner chose the Underground Railroad IPA. We both really enjoyed our brews and just the overall feeling of the tap room and its people. I have been going to Dan's since the 1970's. Always enjoyed Dan's ice cream and fudge, but THIS year they opened a 2nd shop just south of Minocqua..... in Hazelhurst. The original shop closes @ 5:30 & the employees stand @ the door letting lingering customers stay, but tell the people outside (after 5:30) to go to the shop a few miles down hwy 51 because it's open a few extra hours later, every day. Either both Dan's STAY OPEN the same hours or NOT at all. There are other places in the area that sell Fudge and /or Ice-cream. And the prices aren't that expensive to be honest. Here are a couple other local places to go.... Kilwins (for ice cream, fudge, specialty treats) Kilwins is open til 7 or 8 pm and there is BRIQ's south of Minocqua and about 1/4 mile north of the NEW Dan's in Hazelhurst. BRIQ's offers a HUGE 1 pound ice cream cone in a Waffel cone for under $6!! They only have chocolate and vanilla but offer "sprinkles & flavor" options, and are open later in the day as well! Surprisingly KwikTrip also offers Fudge, that tastes just as good. I seldom leaves negative reviews, but this has to be shared. 😞

I really hate to write a negative review of a small, local business, but my partner and I had a very uncomfortable experience on our pontoon cruise. It gets two stars because the boat was comfortable and we saw several bald eagles. I called the day prior to book the cruise and was told there were 2 spaces left on the 3pm tour. I gave my credit card and was charged, but I never got an email confirmation. We arrived at 2:50 the next day to find the office closed, so we walked to the pier to find the guide with a nearly full boat, already pushing off the dock. We told him we were booked on that tour and he begrudgingly allowed us to board, but argued that the office told him there were only 14 on the tour. He was implying that we were trying to get on the tour without paying or at a different time, but he said we would sort it out afterward. For the entire 2+ hours, the captain proceeded to give the rest of the guests a tour, but never made eye contact with us, never offered us the refreshments that were included in our price. All of this made us really uncomfortable with the rest of the guests (who happened to all be a family on a reunion) thinking we were crashing their party. After disembarking, we were finishing a conversation with the other guests when the captain interrupted and said "I need to see you in the office." We followed him in, where he titled through several books of handwritten reservations until he found that we had, indeed reserved and paid for the 3pm tour. Instead of apologizing for the mix up, he shrugged and just said "You're good to go". No apology, no explanation of why he had made our tour so uncomfortable. Our family, who is local to the area, later asked the office about the experience we had, and also were given a list of excuses, but no apology for the bad experience. A very simple email confirmation could have made this a non issue. And a simple "I'm sorry for the mix-up" from anyone at the business would have made up for it. But as it stands, we will be using a different company for future tours.

This was a huge zoo, offering many animals on display of which I’ve never seen before. All enclosures had signs with information about the animals. Many of the animals were housed in the correct environments, keeping the animals indoors for the rainy day, you can enter the buildings to view them from inside. Sad to say some of the animals were left on concrete slabs with puddles of water accumulating in their walking areas. Overall it’s a very well kept park, deer, goats and peacocks wandering the grounds for you to interact with and feed. You have to pay extra to get a safari tour which would allow you to see the zebras, and not sure what other animals. They also offer, for an extra fee, paddle boats to tour the grounds. The workers at the front desk were okay, the older woman had a little bit of attitude behind her answers to our questions but overall the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable! A very fun way to kill 3 hours of your day

People actually watched their dogs while socializing. There is a small dog (under 30 lbs) area and a large dog area (over 30 lbs). I was a little concerned not being from the area and having heard dog park horror stories. But this place is well cared for. Plenty of garbage receptacles although for some reason they are on the outside if the fence. 🤷‍♀️ But most people just drop their bag over the fence on top and then deal with it as they leave. We were there on a Friday evening with our aussie. Plenty of dogs to interact with if she chose to and they were all friendly. She mostly chose to chase the ball and check in on everyone as a good herding dog does. ;) Would definitely go back if the occasion arises. Have fun with your pup!!
