We travel full time so paying for tons of museums and outings can add up. It’s a small museum but decently done. I do wonder if there could be a little more local vermont history or more detailed history Added around. Some was more broad and general stuff that most anyone would know. Sure sheep and cows and such were used for farming. But I would have liked a little more in depth history on things and how things were done in vermont compared to other states. How roads were carved and built in and through/around the mountains. History of covered bridges, maple farms, quarries etc. but I also admit I was a bit rushed on a time crunch before closing so it is possible I rushed pass some of these things without realizing. Overall it was a nice museum and laid out in a horseshoe so it was easy to walk through. But this is a huge building. It would be nice to have more floors of history to explore. Looking at the pricing it seems fairly priced for what is here. $7 an adult, $5 kids and seniors and under 6 free, $20 for families. I also bought some nice postcards in the giftshop.

There is road access but many people from the town just hike up. To get to the tower you have to park then hike, about 10 minutes is you are capable. I have trouble walking and use a cane and I made it in about 20 minutes. The air in Hubbard Park is so clean and refreshing. The trails are wide and cleared. It is an amazing place. Take your camera as there are many photo opportunities.

We like to sample local beers/wines/spirits at their source and support their businesses, but without a brewery immediately nearby we were assured Three Penny had many local beers on tap. Unfortunately the beer that I was most interested in from browsing their tap menu online was not available once we were at the restaurant and were given paper copies of their tap menu, so be aware that their tap menu online may not be up to date. Having said that, they did have a respectable draught selection and I appreciated that they had an option on nitro as well. We were a bit confused/disappointed by the menu and what we received vs. what we expected. We chose both the crispy chickpeas and crispy local mushrooms to share at our table anticipating that they would both be crunchy (as it is a synonym for crispy). The chickpeas were fried and crispy on the outside when hot while still soft inside but generally became soft overall as they cooled. The mushrooms were four VERY large chunks of oyster mushrooms that were battered, deep fried, and sauced, not crispy at all. We're not from this area so perhaps it's a regional thing that deep friend foods are referred to as "crispy" here even if they're not crunchy at all, but there it is in case you were looking to order either of these things and had the same thoughts we did about what "crispy" means. I had discovered Barr Hill at a village store in Danville, a gift box of gin. I love gin and I love local craft so I picked it up to try. We were hoping to have a few of the delicious sounding snacks from their food menu in addition to a tasting and some cocktails, but unfortunately we found when we arrived that only the retail section of the distillery was open. The employee (I wish I would have gotten her name!) was incredibly gracious when she learned we were on a road trip and pointed us in the direction of the restrooms and a seating area with an invitation to stay and relax for as long as we wished. It turned out that one of their whiskies here was one that my husband had previously tasted somewhere else and was so impressed by it then he wrote a note in his phone to pursue purchasing it at a later time, so it was rather serendipitous that we stopped here! I am absolutely not a gin fan and regularly ask that vodka be subbed for gin in cocktails, but the gin they make here turned out to be one of only two gins I've ever been amenable to in all of our years of distillery tours (I won't say how many years that is, but it's a lot!) This one has a bit of a smoother, sweeter profile to it instead of the usual suspect of pine tree that I decry and it was a pleasant surprise. I also enjoyed the vodka which I expect to be excellent as a stand alone martini with a citrus twist. Unfortunately we did not stay for cocktails as we had promised the kids food at this stop so we needed to find somewhere else to eat, but we did leave with several bottles to enjoy at home. My husband had a difficult time deciding on just one whiskey to purchase, so I'm sure we will be back at a later date in the future for him to buy the ones he didn't buy this first time around.

The bikeloud.org crew limped in on their beat up bikes after a punishing two days in the rain, across dirt roads, three states and App Gap just the day before the holiday. The recent renovation really improved the place, adding new seating and brightening/opening up the interior. Menu items haven't changed. There are plenty of meat filling options, especially pork. We did the Monroe trail. A bit of a challenge because it’s quite a ways to get to the top but it really is an awesome view. We hiked it with our 15 pound cockapoo puppy and he just blasted through the terrain like it was nobody’s business. We met people of all ages along the trail. Really recommended. Give yourself some time, it was a 3 hour hike up with breaks along the way. A great way to enjoy the Vermont scenery while also getting some exercise in. Hiking/running shoes recommended. Go for it!

Even with the snow and significant under layer of ice it was a great winter hike. I would highly suggest wearing crampons and using poles since the trail is entirely covered with snow at this point. It will make the overall experience significantly easier. I had neither and it was all still possible to complete albeit exhausting. Despite it not being hot you will run through a lot of water because of the extended effort to walk through snow uphill. Bring more water than you anticipate. The trails are quiet and we ran into only three other people on the entirety of our hours spent on the mountain. It's a beautiful way to spend a day! Can't wait to return during the summer months.
