There are also two restored 1/4 scale narrow-guage railroad engines (one electric & one steam) that William Gillette navigated 3 miles of track on his 122 acre property. You kind of get a two-fer when playing this spectacular golf course. The conditions were as good as they get with great tee boxes, lush fairways and true rolling greens. The fact that foliage was in peak color was just a bonus for our club. The vibe is very relaxed, and I felt comfortable roaming for the greater part of an hour. I brought home a jasmine covered in buds ready to bloom for less than $20. Worth the trip from anywhere. It's a Wildlife Management Area so primarily hunting/fishing/trapping but plenty to explore. I went turkey hunting a few times and saw no one so it's low traffic. A couple ponds that are well secluded but don't plan on scoring big for fishing as the animal predation keeps the population in check and there isn't a ton of spots to cast in from the shore; best bring a pack canoe or inflatable. The main entrance off Route 16 is mainly for accessing the large pond and if you're going to kayak/canoe, that's your spot. Ponds 1 & 2 are great to watch beavers, muskrat, birds etc. I haven't gone duck hunting there yet but with the right wind, I'm sure you could have some decent days. Heavy vegetation and not much in the way of topography so scouting is pretty key for deer as stalking is very difficult. Went hiking & fishing with my 11 & 8 year old, as well as our cousins around same age and they had a blast. Bring your thermacell and high concentration bug juice; that "all natural" garbage is useless.
