Fort Verde State Historic Park presents what life was like in Arizona, early in its history - including Indian wars.
We spent about an hour in the main building, walking through a number of rooms and browsing the various exhibits depicting life, especially military life in Arizona in its early days.
Many wartime artifacts are on display across many discipline from doctoring, to soldiering and more.
In the last room of the main building, a video plays on a loop. The video is about Indians in Arizona and how they were involved in wars and especially how many of them helped the white man’s army.
It was too hot to visit the other 2 buildings across the street today, as they are not air conditioned, so we’re not sure what’s in them.
We did enjoy our visit.

Such an amazing piece of history right on my backyard. The parade field and a few of the original bldgs have been fully restored. SO many antiques and relics in the museum and all around. Took my malinois along for the ride, and altho dogs can't go inside the bldgs, she was welcome throughout the property. A wonderful place for history buffs or anyone just wanting to explore!

I’ve mostly been a vendor there for the Camp Verde days but the staff there are always nice, the people that visit cool, and so far the weather has always been pretty good. One of the cool things they do is use our axe throwing trailer to help sponsor local non profits. It’s been folks from the local high school to hospice. Always great meeting different folks of the Camp Verde community. If you are from Phoenix it’s probably on the cool side and if you are from Flagstaff, it’s probably on the warmer side.

Loved visiting Fort Verde State Historic Park. I didn’t know anything this cool was in Arizona. Everything was so well preserved. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They are also very knowledgeable and will tell you the backstory to everything you’re looking at.
The park had displays with QR codes that you could scan and that would lead you to YouTube videos with reenactments of people dressed in character for the display you’re looking at. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen!

Well worth adding to the list of places to visit during a trip to Sedona. Located in Camp Verde, this place captures history of the area and provides a deep dive into what it was like living in the West over a century ago. Gives insight to the purpose of the Fort and its significance during the time period it was established. Each building gives a glimpse into the past. Everything well maintained. The rangers are very knowledgeable about the history. Be sure to spend time watching the videos and reading the placards all throughout the properties.

We made a quick stop on our way home from our camping trip and were glad we did. It was amazing to see a monument built back in 1100 that’s still standing today. My son and I walked the trails, explored the plants and water, and browsed through the relics in the gift shop and museum. We even left with a couple of fun little souvenirs. Amazing and must see history if you’re driving by- it’s like 4 minutes off the freeway and gorgeous. The staff was INCREDIBLE and so friendly, not sure why so many people were working and no one could check us in to pay, that was confusing. Lovely gift shop though and unique souvenirs.

The national monument is a must see location if you are in the area. From the parking lot to the front door the walk is easy. Once inside, we noticed the area to the right with had the history of the location and to the left was a nice gift shop area. The staff was informative and friendly. As we approached the historic sight, we were in awe of the size and its location within the mountain. The included pictures may not do it justice. It is a "must see" exhibit. Overall, the Montezuma Castle is worth the time to visit...our children, who were here 20+ years ago were spot on with their recommendation. 👍

Had an amazing time here the other day. I’ve always wanted to visit & I’m so glad I was finally able to do so. The whole experience is amazing. It was a cooler day so all the animals were out & about. The tiger splash was amazing & definitely worth seeing. The whole staffing for the carnivores is super kind & knowledgeable. The safari tour was super fun as well. The one thing I love that they do is all of the animals names are displayed. I loved knowing their names & seeing how the animals response to the trainers when being called. I’ll have to come back to try the zip line another day. We were lucky to visit on a Sunday so we can watch the predator feeding. I highly recommend to go on a day when that’s happening for the additional experience. All of the staff provided a great & informative experience & you can tell they truly care for the animals & that the animals love them back

I loved our visit here. We live in Prescott Valley so it was less than an hour drive. We bought the package that included general admission, feed a tiger and a deeper narrarated tram ride. All in it was about $140 for the 2 of us. My wife loved the sloth. Tiger Splash was fun seeing the big kitty's play. The tour was informative and you saw the animals up close. We all got to feed Giraffes 🦒. A great half day that we will do again.

If there were more than 5 stars, this place would deserve them. What a fantastic experience my husband and I had. Even the turkey sandwich for lunch was way better than expected! And we got to sit by the white tiger while we ate!
Everything/one from the start was wonderful. Alana got us all checked in at the gift shop, (we had booked a VIP tour) and had us in stitches with her personality and sass while we waited for our truck. Nikki (sp?) was our tour guide and driver, and she was a hoot! Extremely knowledgeable and super friendly. She was just perfect.
All around, the absolute best way to spend a day. The animals were exquisite and seemed happy and healthy, (which is huge for me) and the time we got to spend with them was more than adequate. We got to pet Jericho, the rhino, and we got to feed the giraffes by hand!
What a magical place. I could not possibly recommend this place highly enough. We will 100% be coming back.

Went here this past Sunday for my sister's birthday. It was raining, so most of the park was closed off because of running water and mud. The only part that was open was the safari. We had bought tickets beforehand, so we didn't want them to go to waste. What could have turned into a rained out activity, it was actually a great experience!
The safari was short, about 25 minutes, but it was awesome. Our guide/driver Armando was great. We got to feed one of the giraffes, Timba, who was really cute and friendly. Walked right up to us and got some great close up pictures and videos. Then we drove around and looked at the zebras, antelope and bulls. We all had a great time despite most of the zoo being closed off and not seeing the other animals.
All the staff including the two women at the gift shop were extremely helpful, friendly and wonderful. Wish we could return for another visit!

So we went ziplining across the safari. It was super fun! It rained so we got delayed but we stuck it out and waited. Good thing we did!! The 2 guides were amazing. They really were cautious about our safety and very helpful with all our questions about the animals! We would definitely go back again when more animals werent hiding bc of the rain.

VIP tour is worth every penny, the guide brings every animal right to the fence to have close up interactions. The owner, Prayeri, met us for lunch and talked with us, she is great, so passionate. We stopped by on a whim while driving through a snowstorm between Sedona and Phoenix and were very glad that we did. It's an amazing museum and interpretive center covering archeology, art and nature. It is so well done with carefully selected pieces in numbers that don't overwhelm the senses and knowledgeable volunteer guides. Be sure to see the video of an Apache tribe elder talking about history. We highly recommend a visit.

They have several displays but if you want to know what its about, this is not the place, its take a photo of what you are seeing and then google it to learn about what you are seeing. A fantastic museum whose staff is very knowledgeable about the local history, the artifacts on display, and the modern city. On our visit we were the only patrons, which was nice as the museum is on the smaller side. To our surprise we were given a guide, which was spectacular because she (I forgot the name, I'm sorry) shared many stories about the land and each exhibit. My favorite exhibit was the giant mural of the Hopi migration story that includes a video of the artist their self and what it meant to be Hopi and what is means to be Hopi today in a modern world. Decided to do some wine tasting since we were in the area. Reviewing wineries can be a little tricky as taste is very subjective. My rating is based on the experience.
First, our host, I believe her name was Barbara did a great job despite being the only person there. I hope the owner takes note, as having one person try to do everything with more than 20 guest is just being set up for failure. As such, the following review is in no way a reflection of her performance as she did extremely well given the impossible demands.
Because there was only one person if you wanted to taste a flight of wines you had to sit inside vs other shaded seating outside, which with such a beautiful day would have elevated the experience.
Again because there was only one person we were asked to all do the same tasting vs each person being able to choose their preference. Since our host was alone we obliged with the request which again took away from the overall experience.
We also opted to have a cheese board with our wine. It was ok but did not justify the price. The boards are made ahead of time and wrapped in plastic. This resulted in about half the crackers being soft. The cheeses were tasty. We could have used plates and utensils.
Being from wine country in California it is a fairly standard practice that parties of 8 or more require advance notice/reservation. So when a party of 8 showed up, they were turned away. For someone who has done a lot of wine tasting this is common knowledge. However, their website makes no mention of need for reservation. For most people they would be unaware and I can only imagine they left disappointed.
Lastly, when we went to pay they were unable to split the check 50/50 so the cheese board had to be put on one bill. Not a huge deal but given it is 2021 this should be no problem to accommodate. Just one more thing to take away from the experience.

Well worth a stop during a trip to Camp Verde. The wines were great and the owner shared a lot of history about the winery and area. It was interesting to learn how the water quality has an affect on wine production and the growing of the grapes. One of the best wineries around the Sedona area. Clear Creek Winery aka Rio Claro Winery is truly a hidden gem! Passed through here with the family on a trip to Fossil Creek, and on the way back the wife and I had to stop for some adult time. The place is completely unassuming from the road, but once you pull in you quickly find that the owners did an amazing job creating a boutique-like oasis! The wines we had were delicious. There were no tastings, due to COVID19, but even just hanging out on the patio area and enjoying the ambiance they’ve created made the stop well worth it.

A beautiful cenote with especially kind rangers! When we drove up, a ranger met us outside the small station to explain the history of the “well” and how to navigate the short trail. Seeing a beautiful body of water like this in the middle of the desert was incongruous in the best way. Highly recommend spending 30-45 minutes to explore this little marvel!

I love going here! There was unfortunately some restrictions this visit due to wildlife, but I'm so glad the park prioritizes the species that need this location.
I love getting to see the preserved historical sites and read about them. I'm very glad these have not been sold off to private owners, and that active preservation is ongoing.
I know Montezuma's castle is much more advertised, but this is absolutely the star of the show. The concrete walkways and sidewalk trails make this a very accessible park.
The shaded bottom is such a nice place to spend a minute resting and listening to the river.
Best advice, go early. You will miss more of the traffic from Phoenix and you will see more wildlife.

We were staying at the RV park nearby and this is the closest bar. Anything else is 15-20 min away. For that reason, it would be great if they had something besides beer to offer. Many breweries have wine, liquor, and seltzers these days.

I’ve always wanted to pull off the highway and see what Camp Verde Arizona is all about. So I found Verde Brewing company on karaoke night! I am listening to 83 year-old Linda sing about dying like a man! Their bourbon Stout is fabulous. I’m taking four cans home with me! Verde Brewing Company is a great stop while exploring and visiting Montezuma’s Castle. It was a little tricky to find on the GPS the first time but don’t give up. I sampled the two sour beers, raspberry and watermelon and they were perfect. We also shared the cheeseburger nachos an interesting nacho variety and very good. For a snack even for two people I would recommend the personal size. The shareable size is large so if you’re hungry for big. Very nice staff.

Locally owned and operated so I always like to support local businesses. The corn is usually very sweet and decently sized. Unfortunately, I had to knock off a couple of stars because of the high price tag and the fact that the last dozen I bought we're almost completely useless because of multiple worms in each ear. They don't allow the corn to be shucked onsite so it's just a gamble as to whether or not you've got clean corn. It's worth a try but remember to buy some extra or you may not have enough for everyone at the BBQ!

This was a great little place, out of the way and idyllic. Got to say hi to a horse on the way out. Our server was knowledgeable and brought us brochures and maps for the area. Stopped into this winery while up in Camp Verde after receiving a recommendation from individuals in the Visitor Center. It was my mom and I, and although it was a little warm out, it was cooler than Phoenix and we chose to sit outside on the patio. There was indoor seating offered, however, the outdoor seating was shaded and ran alongside an irrigation ditch, that acts as a little river. I am by no means a wine connoisseur, but really enjoyed their Rose. I will say that my mom wished for a sweet wine, but as a winery they enjoy making dry wines! Enjoyed the company of the other individuals on the patio as well as felt very welcomed by the staff and owner! Everyone was very personable and I would definitely recommend this winery if you are in the area! Additionally, you are able to see a good portion of the vineyard from where we sat outside, giving you a very good sense of local farm to table!

Wow! What a delightful surprise! We visited Salt Mine Winery on a sunny, slightly cool Sunday afternoon. We were warmly greeted by the staff, some other visitors and two very sweet dogs. There were tables inside and out, and we chose out. The table was immediately sanitized and water was brought to the table. There are vineyards as you drive in as well as just by the tasting area. There is also a small body of water like a creek or something. We opted to taste all 9 wines which we shared. The wines are all based on Italian grapes and some names we definitely didn’t recognize. They are fairly dry and none of them are what we would call sweet. We liked them all, some better than others, but they were all tasty! And I can’t say enough about how friendly and informative everyone was. It was just fun chatting with them all! We walked away with a nice stash of wine (we did pay for it!), and can’t wait to go back again. Kudos!! Don’t miss this one! (FYI – we have been to quite a few AZ wineries and this has been our favorite!)

This wonderful store came to my rescue. They let me use their restroom with out insisting that I be a paying customer. I bought their custom made fudge in gratitude. They also sell Local Honey. Yum! In case you are also in desperate need, go straight in, through the red door and it's on the left.
I had a happy wander though this enchanting store. It was so big that i got lost. They had so many amazing treasures that it was a happy wander for me. There is a DVD section for only $1 each that I wish I had more time to search.
There is a Mermaid zone so you lovers of all things mermaid can find a treasure trove of props here.
The view of the Camp Verde valley is beautiful from their parking lot. Each parking space had an antique bed frame at it's end, each unique and I found it very funny. Diffidently worth the stop.
I didn't see any handicap ramp. You need to climb steep stairs up to the patio to enter the store.

So we went to Prescott for a golf tournament that we ended up not playing so we made a trip out of the weekend. We googled things to do and came across a zip line over a zoo. Out of Africa wildlife. If you’re looking for an experience that involves adventure, overcoming fears,fun, wildlife all in a professional and safe setting then look no further!!!
Britain (sp?) and Eric were our guides and they were top notch!
We were given a great orientation and they were very personable and fun and friendly, but also extremely professional when it came to our safety and making sure we understood everything that was going to occur .
It was one of the hottest days of the year, but luckily, we started early and had some cloud coverage that provided us with some shade, but that is something to consider when doing this because you are going to be climbing a lot of stairs . You also are able to take a water bottle with you to stay hydrated.
Since this was my first time doing a zip line, the first course had me shaking like a leaf when I landed, but it was nice to know that there were other runs left to do because each time it got easier, and I became more relaxed.
The rope bridge was probably the scariest for me for some reason, but there was no way anything bad would happen to me and it was a very good feeling to overcome that fear once I made it across in one piece 😄
The whole experience takes two hours and you have plenty of time between runs to look out onto the park and check out all of the animals .
Seth was our photographer for the day and i’m grateful to have these photos to memorize this experience!
My friend and I did this for our birthday month celebration and I would definitely do it again given the opportunity !

It was an amazing experience. The best way to tour a wild life sanctuary so you get a bird eye view rather than going around the whole barn to find any animal. The workers are friendly and the 100 yard range concept is a great , but with poor execution. The 100 yard digital target carrier system is a nice feature, but the lighting is extremely poor and intermittent between the overhead baffles. A few 10 million Candle Power LED spot lights, mounted on the backside of the carriers, would fix that issue. They produce over 3200 lumens and a light beam over 500 yards long by 175’ wide each. No more shadows!
The $20 per hour fee is fair, but $20 per person on the same lane is ridiculous. 3 people on the same lane costs $60/hour with only one person shooting at a time. We should have hogged 3 lanes and done nothing on the other 2 lanes... They should charge by the lane, not the person.
The store and display area and bathrooms are nice. The pistol and rifle range areas are somewhat dismal. They need more light and fresh paint. Also, they do not have any barriers between lanes. So, your ejected brass can wind up in your neighbor's ear.
If you just shoot pistols, then Insight Firearms in Prescott Valley is superior in cleanliness and lighting.

It might get overshadowed by the state and national parks nearby, but this neat old restored schoolhouse is free to look around in and has free informational and tourist pamphlets. The lady working there was so sweet and informative about the town and things to do in the area. Decided to take a day trip up to Camp Verde from West Phoenix and decided to start the trip with a stop into the towns visitor center. There was a very helpful older woman to answer questions and tell you about the history of the town! The center itself is a mini museum as well as little book store and a center for all the pamphlets about attractions in the area. We were given information for the local Montezuma Castle and the Montezuma Well, both of which we visited afterwards. We were given information for a little sandwich shop to stop at for lunch, information about where we could access the river in the town, and a pamphlet (along with recommendations) about the local wine trail. Overall, it was a great place to start an adventure if you are looking for recommendations and a history of the area. Additionally, they have their own parking lot, however due lack a public restroom!

This was our first visit to Verde Ranch RV Resort and we were greeted kindly by the check-in staff who helped us select a site that suited our needs. The RV site was clean, well groomed with pretty level rock. Hook-ups worked and were well maintained. The RV site was large both in length and width which made it feel as though you were not "on top" of the RV's parked in the spots next to you. The dog park was clean with available doggy bags and waste disposal. The laundry room and shower rooms were clean and well maintained. For being so close to I-17, the road noise was surprisingly not as noticeable as one would expect. We definitely will stop here again on another adventure.

This is a very clean and up to date park. Very nice amenities. The clubhouse is amazing and well maintained. The gym in the clubhouse was clean and had everything to get a nice workout in. The pool area and splash park were clean and nice. The dog park area was good, except some goat head stickers. I know they are hard to get rid of. Our site was down the hill by the river and the freeway could be heard at night, but everything about the park was good. We travel in a 45 foot motorcoach and was easy in and out. The site was a good size. We did not use the laundry or restrooms, so can not comment on that.

We love it here so much for many reasons and will definitely be returning! The park is in pristine condition-always clean and organized. So many fun amenities for all. I love the club house, the fitness center, pool area, pickleball courts and the walking trail along the river. The sites are both wide and long, which allowed us not to feel cramped, unlike other RV Resorts we have stayed at. Our kids had fun riding their bikes and scooters up and down the hills. My mom came up from the valley and rented a cabin for a few weeks. They were cozy, but enough room for our family of five to visit with her comfortably. Our kids enjoyed having a space to play and hang out with their grandmother. Verde Ranch also has covered wagons to rent, which looked super cute and fun. The clubhouse is huge, and activities are happening almost every weekend. Our kids made various arts and crafts projects and participated in tie-dye activities. There was a scavenger hunt for gold coins for St. Patrick's Day, and the kids had fun running around the RV Resort looking for them. There was also a tractor pulling a hay ride trailer around the resort. There is a workout center, a mini arcade, a pool table, and a shuffleboard table. There are also three pickleball courts for use. There is a small playground; the kids still enjoyed it. The heated pool is a fantastic bonus, as being in the high desert can get a little chilly in February. There are two hot tubs and a splash pad. The restrooms and laundry facilities were clean, spacious, and spread out around the Resort. It was also great being able to walk along the Verde River with our dogs. We have recommended this Resort to others and plan to stay here again.

We spent 2 weeks in our RV at Verde Ranch Rv Resort and had a blast. Everyone was so nice, the customer service was excellent, the amenities are amazing and very clean. We have 2 dogs, and the resort is very dog friendly. They have 2 dog parks, piddle pads scattered throughout the park, and even a dog washing station. The resort is located near so many hiking trails. Enough to keep us busy every single day. Flagstaff is only 1 hour away, Sedona is a half hour away, and the Grand Canyon was only 2 hours away. Overall, great spot! I'm solo van camping with my dog and wanted a in-between spot from Sedona to Phoenix, and I had this place flagged from an IG post. There is highway noise (it's right off I-17) but I didn't hear it at night unless I was sitting outside at the fire, sleeping was great, the campground was quiet.
The clubhouse was great, clean, modern, etc. RV sites were plentiful, tons, like a massive KOA; neighbors were all kind and friendly and polite/respectful. Loved the hot tub first thing in the cool morning and at the end of the night. Staff was minimal but polite and helpful, even delivered firewood to my site by request when I was off adventuring.
My biggest complaint would be the showers, the facilities were great but they are push button 20-30 second (or so) run showers where you have to continually press the button. You can't control the temperature. I was out and about the 2 days I was there, so I went to Planet Fitness in Cottonwood for a refreshing shower (I look forward to hot showers when I'm paying).
I think for the reality of the space, $60/night was feeling a little high for me just needing a parking space and being underwhelmed by the showers, one of the big wins/losses to me.
Would recommend just don't expect an amazing shower!

I stayed at Cliff Castle Hotel on October 7, 2025, and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. The room I was given was not clean and infested with bed bugs. I woke up with multiple bites and clear signs that the room had not been properly inspected or sanitized.
This is completely unacceptable for any guest, especially at a property that promotes itself as a family-friendly destination. I expected a safe, clean environment, but instead left with painful bites and frustration.
I’m writing this review not to be rude, but to urge management to take immediate action inspect and treat those rooms, replace the bedding, and ensure guests are protected from this kind of neglect.
I truly hope this issue is addressed quickly so no one else has to go through what I did.

This casino in my opinion has deteriorated in the past year or two. Customer service across the board is sad. It appears that staff members aren't happy doing their job assisting guests. The prices for the arcade room to me were honestly things you can get at the dollar store so they officially took out their family kids own kid quest in August so it’s no longer a family, friendly casino so they might want to take that off of their website along with redoing all of their books that they have in the rooms cause it says it’s there too but other than that, it was a great day. They should also probably think about getting another little convenience store. I don’t know for how big the casino is. They could’ve done a little better on some things.

One of the weirdest places I've ever been too. Pretty sure the man who runs the place is a ghost. None of the wine is chilled and apparently he isn't allowed to make ice, so don't bother asking for any. There are no labels on any of the wine bottles and all of the wine is a very strange color. The port instantly removed the rust off a shovel laying in the yard, so if you need rust remover you should get some. All of the "patio furniture" is old booths ripped out of a fast food restaurant. There is a lot of broken down farm equipment scattered around the yard, as well as a stage that a friend almost fell through. The bathroom has one of the original pull chain toilets. The owner told us he does special dinners there, and there is a scrapbook on a rickety table with typewriter-typed menus in it - but there definitely isn't a kitchen anywhere or any other people. NOTICE: This review is primarily aimed at everyday “normal” guys who may have doubts. Reluctant husbands, boyfriends, dudes sidelined to the “friend zone” but trying to get into the game: This is Totally Legit, Totally awesome, and a wonderful experience worth every penny! Even though it may seem suss it is not..
Let me start by saying I was highly dubious about this “adventure” that appeared on my wife’s social media feed out of the blue during a visit to Sedona.
First, all booking communications are by text. Then the confirmation text message provides an extremely detailed and complex set of directions that is different than is shown on google maps. They request payment by cash or Venmo which also seemed kinda suss. There is no signage along the desolate unpaved road that is plastered with “no trespassing” signs. Once we arrived (halfway convinced it may be a scam), we were told by a long haired dude to remain in the car until our appointment time and that we could not exit or walk on the road because it was “private property.” By the time he came back to give us the 2 minute warning I figured it was 50/50 that we would get jacked (semi joking here).
Once the big metal gate opened, we were greeted warmly which was reassuring. Then the whole group of guests sat at an outdoor table and the money counting for admission was conducted as a public activity. Still feeling a little on guard, Cynthia (our guide) began explaining the process which she said would include spiritual elements (I won’t ruin the surprise here) and visiting the enclosures with the wolves. As a conservative Texas Christian I began feeling less anxious, but started wondering if this was some sort of weird Sedona hippy religious stuff like the vortex (which had no discernible effect on me). But, I promised my wife we would do this, so if I needed to do new age stuff for a little while I guess I’d play along (planned my revenge by forcing her on a difficult hike the next morning).
Cynthia’s kind and calming nature became evident immediately, and it was obvious that she was passionate about the wolves we would see. Once we were introduced to the wolves, it was also obvious that she is just as dedicated to giving her guests a great experience.
Wolves are wolves, so their tendency to interact with you kinda just depends on their moods. However, Cynthia and Xavier go out of their way to create a fantastic, educational and uplifting experience. There is alot of opportunity to interact with the wolves but you have to let yourself be present in the moment as they can sense our vibes. Once I let my guard down, it was really enjoyable and we had lots of close contact with the wolves.
These wolves have a great life thanks to this organization which is supported by your admission and donations.
What started out as a kinda questionable activity turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit to the desert. Highly recommend!

For me visiting this sanctuary was a profound experience. It is set on sacred lands and weaves the experience of meeting the wolves with knowledgable and authentic information about both the wolves and ancient traditions.
Cynthia and Xavier were so welcoming and genuine.The wolves are all rescued from various circumstances including the exotic pet trade to fur farms.
The experience is totally wolf led as you sit quietly and allow them to approach you.
Being so close to and greeted by a lick to the face by one of these magnificent animals was so moving! Only if that is your choice of course!

Sedona Wolf Sanctuary was such a beautiful and spiritual experience! My group had a mix of animal lovers and those unsure of wolves, but we all left absolutely in love. The beginning cleansing ceremony at medicine wheel led by Cynthia touched me an a deep level. Meeting these amazing wolves was awe inspiring. Location is remote and on roads best suited to high clearance vehicles. Reservations are required and directions provided on you are confirmed. Don't count on your GPS.
